My first metal album.......2007-06-22
Since the mere fact that this album changed my life might not be enough to convince you, let me elaborate on the music a little. This album is not like other death albums. Chuck uses a higher pitched voiced voice which kind of reminded me of a pirate somehow. I think it has more to do with his singing accent. THe singing is amazing, and I can't believe some people hate this album because of the singing. He is articulate but incredibly intense and aggresive. If you only like death grunts a la suffocation, then you are too close minded for this album. The rhythms are rather angular. I already mentioned the subtle polyrythms in the drumming, but beyond that, the guitar rhythms are jerky. This combines to make it seem almost funky, but not really. The guitar combined with the drums makes a spectacular rhythm section. On top of that, Chuck adds melodies on the guitar and some very twisted harmonies. The style of this seems unprecedented to me, but then again I haven't heard all the metal in the world. The guitar solos are all absolutly fantastic. It is just Chuck this time, but if if he had brought back Paul Masvidal from Human, I suspect he wouldn't be outshined this time like on he was on human, because chuck really pours his soul into the solos. At the end of the album is the best work death has ever done. Painkiller is an amazing cover, however the original was actually better in my opinion. But the solo in the song is extended and I slightly prefer it to the Priest solo, which was also amazing. The stuff I was considering death's best work is the three songs before that.
I would not advise against this being your first death album like many of the other reviewers, since it was mine and I loved it. This album is absolutly essential for anyone who considers himself a true metalhead. Symbolic and Human are also essential albums by this band.

Hatebreed's unrepentant heaviness puts other Ozzfest alumni to shame. The Connecticut-bred quintet combine elements of old-school hardcore with death-metal intensity for a metal-core sound that, with melodic guitar moments and double-kick drums, finds them equally suited for tours with Entombed and Danzig. On Perseverance, Hatebreed's major-label debut, the underground favorites have not sacrificed any musical or lyrical principles--or any aggression--turning in 16 tracks of unrelenting force, with most tunes clocking in at under three minutes. In "You're Never Alone," vocalist Jamey Jasta cuts to the chase in engaging his audience. "This is for the kids who have nowhere to turn, who have nothing to live for," he barks, encouraging fans to use "hatred to do the right thing." Especially anthemic is the shout-along "I Will Be Heard," while the speedy punk-mosh mania of "We Still Fight" is enough to raise blood pressures. If Slayer and Pantera are your idea of ear candy, Perseverance is just what the doctor ordered. --Katherine TurmanCustomer Reviews:
really good stuff.......2007-07-17
Good metalcore, but that isn't saying much.......2007-07-13
If there is any problems with Hatebreed, there songs can sometimes sound simlar; it can be difficult sitting through Preserverance. It's not as technical or entertaining as death metal either. It's not exactly brutal and scary either, although it's loud and aggressive. Lastly, the musicianship isn't great, but most hardcore dosen't rely on awesome riffs like this. It's still better than Slipknot, then again, what band isn't?
Now that I got the bad parts out of the way, it's miles better than Skipknot or any other nu-metal or metalcore band ever. Even though it sounds the same at times, it's still good, and the positive message I like. A Call for Blood is the only reason Preserverance has a Parental Advisory label. Hatebreed also is good because it's music. In a sense, that means Jamey Jasta takes on what's on his mind and puts it into music. It's not heavy or brutal, I've heard stuff that makes this like hard rock, but it's decent.
IT's not great, but as far as metalcore goes (which sucks as a genre), it's a keeper. That isn't saying much.
7.0/10
Good stuff here.......2007-03-13
A lesson in metallic hardcore.......2006-08-22
In the case of Hatebreed's "Perseverance", the message is clear: These guys are angrily confident. Jamey Jasta's conviction is it's clearest ever on this disc, as he forcefully twists his hatred into hope for conquering his demons. It's a unique thing for a band to incite unbelievable anger and undeniable self-confidence in the same album. Not many albums offer the venom and the antidote. The music is hammering and heavy, as heavy as any hardcore album can get. The band can play blistering hardcore as well as anyone else, but once again, the message is what makes you mosh.
As Many IQ Points as notes.......2006-08-15
Do yourselves a favor and find something actually artistically worthy of the intelligent mind, and don't be fooled into thinking that this is heavy in any non-primitive way.

Angela Hewitt is best known for her excellent Bach recordings, but in her less-comprehensive series of Couperin's works written for the harpsichord she matches that high standard. Fans of the French Baroque will know this music and may need to adjust to the sound of the piano. But the open-minded will be captivated by her buoyant playing and by her refusal to imitate the harpsichord. Instead, she brings the resources of the modern concert grand to bear on these stylized scores--"authenticity" becomes irrelevant to the immense pleasure generated. Hewitt's ornamentation is stylishly convincing, as is her wit, attention to detail, and beautiful tonal production. She plays all of the Treizième Ordre and a generous selection of pieces from Couperin's other works, focusing on those she believes work best on the piano. The captivating result makes one sorry that, as she writes in her lucid notes, this will be the last of her Couperin series. Hyperion's vibrant sound does full justice to Hewitt's colorful playing. -- Dan DavisCustomer Reviews:
Endlessly delightful.......2006-03-05
More French Baroque music on piano.......2005-12-02
Not only is Hewitt's survey of Couperin's music here rather ground-breaking (given few if any recordings done on the piano for them), but it also sets a high standard. Hewitt's gingerly touch, knack for dance rhythms and poetic depth are well-suited to Couperin's graceful, inventive and sadness-tinged music. Right from the rhythmic opening movement and its "tripping" theme, Miss Hewitt sets a delightful and confident attitide towards this music. In the next two gentle pieces, her lyrical depths emerge to meld with Couperin's melancholic intent. This same emotive playing finds its home in several moving, introspective works (tracks 19, 21 and 26) suggestve of the composer's deep yearings and sadness (from perhaps his health struggles). In all these, Miss Hewitt seems to really find the emotional core and present it to us with great tenderness and artistry.
But, soon the fun and frolic begins with "Les Folies Francoises" - a delightful and imaginative miniature "theme-and-variations" ordre in which each variation parodies some virture or emotion (hope, jealousy, fidelity, despair etc). As such it is truly early "programmic music" - as is most of Couperin's music with their odd titles. In the masked ball parody, Hewitt covers the range of expressive textures brilliantly - from the festivity in the "Couquetry" piece to the dark moodiness of "Jealousy" played in the lower half of the keyboad. As the pianist quotes in her abundant notes, "This work is a microcosm of Couperin's art, its tragic passion, its whitty urbanity, its sensuous charm." Indeed.
Once again here we see Miss Hewitt's mastery of the composer and his music - most notably her scrupulous attention to detail to Couperin's precise score notations. Her skill in these most-important ornamentations show both a well-studied approach and fine taste, integrating them into the tapestry of the music smoothly and attractively. As such, her playing really has a more gentle, feminine quality in its appeal. Hewitt certainly makes a strong case for this music on piano, especially the greater nuance of expression afforded the piano in the slower movements. I know some insist this music is best suited for the harpsichord, but it is hard to resist this artist's ability to produce music of such tonal beauty and pianistic richness. Her emphasis on such tonal beauty is once again fully supported by Hyperion who produced a sparkling clear and bright sound quality (much like Volume II) with richly developed timbre from her Steinway in an attractive, mildly resonant recording ambiance.
While there are many fascinating textures and themes played marvelously by Angela Hewitt in this third release, I have to admit I found the pieces in the first two Hyperion recordings slightly more musically interesting in scope, granduer, lyricism and expressiveness. If you are wondering which one to get first, I would say definately Volume I. But, overall, Hewitt plays this music most elgantly and with just the right elan and sensitively to Couperin's intent. I find a refreshing quality in all her Couperin recordings that makes them some of my favorite to play throughout the day. They are easy on the ear, yet musically rich and satisfying. Fans of Angela Hewitt or the French Baroque should find more of a good thing here in Hewitt's third Couperin CD and much to celebrate in her delicate and tasteful pianism. Also her very useful accompanying notes to guide you along add to the attractiveness of this release. And the cover art is particular sumptuous as well. Rating - 4.5 stars.
And continuing in the tradition of French keyboard music, Angela Hewitt has since recorded works by Emmanuel Chabrier and Rameau - both on the Hyperion label.

So the intention behind was to do justice to the composer -Basil Kirchin- whose been a bit betrayed by the film's production as I understand, but then as a listener I miss the more "popular" music that was used and that is part of the general atmosphere in that beautiful film.

A Score Collector gives it Up Thumbs!.......2007-05-05
If you like the Korean flavor of this title I would also recommend the "Rising Sun",score soundtrack by Toru Takemitsu.
Some of my favorite composers are Horner, Goldsmith, Kamen, Edelman, Elfman, and Poledouris; and I guess Williams too.
Safan was a new composer for me. The score soundtrack for "The Last Starfighter" is very simalar to Remo but, it is not as available. He also did the score for "Stand and Deliver" which I have not heard yet.
This movie had a song tie-in, entitled "What If", by Tommy Shaw one of the ex-front men of STYX. It is from his second solo album entitled the same.
This is not the best score soundtrack ever; However, it is very nice and I would recommend it to fellow patrions.
One of the best movie soundtracks ever!.......2006-09-21
Played with authentic vintage Korean instruments, plus modern instruments and keyboards, this is one of Safan's best sound tracks to date. "Remo Floats" is my favorite, and probably #1 with most fans.
Extra Tracks:
The "Organ Music" is the music heard while Chiun is watching the Soaps.
"Elevator Encounter" that's heard while Remo is in, er, the elevator.
"Ferris Wheel Theme" is the odd-ball musid we hear while Remo is on the Wonder Wheen. Same for "Chiun's Ferris Wheel Theme."
