Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good for cheap laughs.......2000-11-23

This album has to be one of Poonanny's finest. I say this hesitantly, seeing as I have not listened to his "Ponyrider" album as of yet. Poonanny's unique blend of quasi-funk/blues shows itself throughout every song, as well as constant... innuendos. "Meat Man" is probably my favorite song on the album, with its ribald lyrics. "Rump Ringer," however, is more musically sound, and has a catchier hook.

    Album Description

Grown Man Business is the full debut album project from dynamic duo Yungun &Mr Thing. This feature-length presentation, brought to you by two of the UK's finest, follows their recent double whammy of underground smash singles: Jackin For Breaks ["Essential". DJ mag; "A winning combination" Blues & Soul], and Forget Me Not ["an exemplary three tracker" Hip-Hop Connection; "definitely single of the month" Echoes]. Charismatic emcee Yungun handles the mic with typical verve and style throughout, whilst Mr Thing delivers all the beats and cuts. The album's title and inspiration comes from the Grown Man Business series of mixtapes Mr Thing used to regularly compile for Yungun, which featured classic soul, funk and rare groove gems from Mr Thing's famously deep record crates. As well as providing a musical education, the mixtapes also became the soundtracks to the pair's journeys up and down the motorways of Britain travelling to and from their various live performances. This album sees them using elements of that classic sound to create a new style that is distinctly cutting edge. Like an unopened bottle of vintage of vintage wine, it's matured, sophisticated but fresh out the crates - in short, some real grown man business.
