Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, such as "Killer Queen" and "You're My Best Friend". The quartet's canny sense of melody and sophisticated vocal harmonies--not to mention Mercury's raised eyebrow--have traveled well through the years. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Queen Greatest hits.......2007-07-12
Queen is Amazing!.......2007-05-23
"Somebody to Love": A huge, sprawling song with absolutely mesmorizing vocals from Freddie Mercury and amazing harmonies.
"Fat Bottom Girls": A classic hard rock tune with gorgeous harmonies and great guitar lines.
"You're My Best Friend": A smooth, cool, beautiful, and underrated love song.
"Seven Seas of Rhye": I love the piano on this song, and the classic hard rock feel.
"Don't Stop Me Now": A classic adrenaline-rush of a song.
I love this CD. You should get it if you like Queen. It's very cohesive. And if you don't really know Queen that well, it's a great sampler of their music. There is one problem. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is my favorite Queen song, and its absence on this album irks me quite a bit. That being said, I would download it individually before I would actually buy another album with it.

THE QUEEN LEGEND CONTINUES WITH VOLUME II. PART 2 OF 2........2007-05-09
I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" by one of Rock's all-time greatest bands ever. I give you one of England's pride and joy's and one of Britain's favorite sons, Q-U-E-E-N! "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" was originally released in 1992 on Compact Disc on the Hollywood Records label which is distributed by Elektra Entertainment, a division of Warner Communications Inc. This review is Part 2 of 2. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.
QUEEN will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for writing and recording some of Rock's most legendary all-time greatest sacred classic anthems ever. QUEEN will also be remembered for delivering one of Rock's most flamboyant and charismatic lead singer's / frontmen ever. Of course I'm speaking of the late great Farrokh Bulsara, also known the world over as Freddie Mercury. When Mercury met up and joined forces with rhythm and lead guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor, the stage was set and QUEEN would set out to conquer the world. QUENN would write and record many great albums and hit songs throughout the band's whole entire career to highly critically acclaim. Like volume I, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" would be the result of the many great hit songs that QUEEN would record throughout their entire career. Also like volume I, the album, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" would also serve as proof, of one of the many great contributions, accomplishments and achievements that QUEEN would give to Rock n' Roll. Also without a doubt, in my opinion, like volume I, "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" also stands as a true testament of the sheer genius and musical creativity of four extremely talented individuals. "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" is also a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was truly indeed, far ahead of their time.
It is now time to let the Rock n' Roll music of QUEEN to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically. "QUEEN - GREATEST HITS - VOLUME II" from 1992 picks up right where VOLUME I left off and begins with the forever slow blistering QUEEN trademark Rock anthem that could be heard in stadiums during sports events the world over, "We Will Rock You," this slow Rocker will then develop into the beautifully slow hard Rock anthem "We Are The Champions," the merciless killer Rocker "Another One Bites The Dust," the forever Opera hard Rocker "Killer Queen," one of the most beautiful slow Rock anthems ever, "Somebody To Love," the hard Rock anthem for beautiful overweight women the world over, "Fat Bottom Girls," the amazing Opera Rock anthem "Bicycle Race," the forever beautifully slow QUEEN trademark Rock anthem "You're My Best Friend," the forever 50's like Rock anthem that would have made ELVIS PRESLEY proud, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," (READY FREDDIE!) the breathtaking a*s kicking hard Rocker "Now I'm Here," the mysterious groundbreaking special effects Rock anthem with an incredible falsetto voice arrangement by Freddie Mercury, "Play The Game," the fantastc killer hard Rocker "Seven Seas Of Rhye," the forever bass pumping synthesized Rocker "Body Language," the beautifully slow electric acoustic Rocker "Save Me," the fast paced and energetic hard Rocker "Don't Stop Me Now," the incredible Opera Rocker "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy" and the forever danceable synthesized Rocker "I Want To Break Free." Again, like VOLUME I, may I also add that the blistering lead vocals and breathtaking falsetto vocal arrangements by Freddie Mercury was PERFECT and on the mark while laying down the tracks for all of these legendary hit songs. I would also like to commend Brian May for his merciless guitar riffs and licks throughout all of the recordings of these legendary hit songs. I would also like to commend QUEEN'S legendary rhythm section comprising of bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor. Their combined perfect harmony sound effort contributed in elevating both Freddie Mercury's blistering lead vocals and Brian May's merciless guitar arrangements to another level unimagined by anyone.
Overall, this is one hell of a compilation album worth checking out and seeking further research and information into especially if you are a hardcore diehard QUEEN fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not quite familiar with the sound and music of QUEEN, along with VOLUME I, this is not a bad compilation album or two volume album collection to start off with. Either way you choose, you will have taken a giant step in owning and starting your very own personal QUEEN music collection. You can do all of your researching and album purchases either on Amazon com or at your nearest local Borders Books and Music store. If you ever get a chance, buy both volume albums, you'll be happy and satisfied that you did.
Like VOLUME I, I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary compilation album(s) to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. Without a doubt, this legendary treasure album(s) has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great priceles gem that no hardcore music fan or devout music collector would want to be without.
In closing, Freddie Mercury's untimely death on 24 November 1991 would close the book on one of Rock's greatest chapters and one of Rock's all-time greatest bands ever. OR SO IT SEEMED. The QUEEN legend and legacy is far from being over. As we speak, QUEEN has been touring with former FREE'S, BAD COMPANY'S and THE FIRM'S lead singer and frontman Paul Rodgers to highly critically acclaim. In my opinion, despite Freddie Mercury being irreplaceable, QUEEN'S only chance of carrying on with someone else that is close to Freddie Mercury's talent is with none other than George Michael. When I heard George Michael sing with QUEEN on stage at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, Michael is the only lead singer and frontman alive today that is capable of filling in the empty shoes left vacant by the late great Freddie Mercury. I'm really surprised that QUEEN didn't snatch up George Michael right away. I HOPE QUEEN IS READING THIS! As years have gone by, the contributions, accomplishments and achievements that QUEEN has made throughout Rock n' Roll history speaks for itself. In 2001, QUEEN would meet their date with destiny by receiving the highest ultimate honor possible, by being inducted as members of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. With this in mind, QUEEN will forever leave their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. There will also be new stories in the QUEEN legend and legacy that will still need to be told and written. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will just have to stay tuned and glued to your computer and read further more about it at a later date in the near future. So here's to you late great Freddie, Brian, John, Roger and yes, you too Paul and George. Thanks for the many great memories. Keep The faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more or am I wrong? FREDDIE MERCURY LIVES! Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have truly enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also deeply hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. QUEEN FOREVER! R.I.P. FARROKH BULSARA A.K.A. FREDDIE MERCURY, Born 5 September 1946, Died 24 November 1991 at age 45. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.
Genre Bender's Greatest Hits.......2007-03-03
Highlights including those previously mentioned are "I Want To Break Free," "Save Me", "Killer Queen," "Somebody To Love," and the wonderfully strange "Body Language." My personal favorite is "Fat-Bottomed Girls."
Fans of arena rock bands like Styx and Foreigner will surely enjoy Queen, although Queen is on an entirely different level than those bands. They are classic rock royalty and I highly recommend you snag "Classic Queen" to get a more complete understanding of Queen's broad-reaching style of music.
Highly recommended.

It's fitting that the Kid Rock revival got started when the Beastie Boys featured him in their Grand Royal magazine--and not because the kid from Detroit shares their skin tone. Rock has often been compared with the early Beasties--the boys of "Fight for Your Right to Party" and "Brass Monkey," the boys no one ever thought would grow up. With lines like "I ain't straight outta Compton, I'm straight out the trailer" and "I started an escort service--for all the right reasons," it's obvious that Kid Rock doesn't aim to follow suit. But that's no hindrance to Devil--backed by the funky metal band Twisted Brown Trucker and special guests like blues vets Robert Bradley and Thronetta Davis, Rock is hosting one hell of an interesting party. Ultimately, Rock's party is great, schlocky fun, equal parts old Beasties and Sebastian Bach--making Devil a guilty pleasure, the Starship Troopers of hip-hop. --Randy SilverCustomer Reviews:
A Modern Detroit Rock Classic.......2007-07-12
When listening to this album it's key to remember the source and time that it came out. It was released right around the time of the Limp Bizkit era and the rap / rock fusion sound is what we were listening to at the time. This combined with the fact that Kid was originally a Detroit rapper should alone explain the overall sound of the album. If it doesn't then you should consider the source...
It was released by a Detroit artist for a Detroit audience. You're talking about the town where to this day Bob Seger has outsold the Beatles (and with good reason, if you ask me). The music scene in Detroit has always been a little off kilter to the rest of the country, so if you're buying the album specifically for "Only God Knows Why" then you'll be disappointed and should buy the single instead.
You should buy this album if you're looking for a specific sound that you won't hear duplicated anywhere else, before or since.

This soundtrack serves up a collision of musical styles, as if the coolest radio stations of Tokyo and New York had suddenly melded into a giant hybrid. The Teriyaki Boyz' opening title track is typical: brilliant production by the Neptunes, East-meets-West mood, more hipness than you can shake a stick at. The Japanese hip-hop group's other offering here, "Cho Large," isn't quite as good but fortunately it's the rare lame-ish track on a CD that overall keeps things on overdrive. Highlights include DJ Shadow's collaboration with Mos Def, "Six Days (Remix)"; Japanese girl surf experts 5.6.7.8's (already familiar to Kill Bill fans) and their uproarious "The Barracuda"; Evil Nine's "Restless," which has the kind of monstrous bass line the Chemical Brothers would kill for; and Atari Teenage Riot's awesome display of digital-hardcore aggro, "Speed" (have these guys ever been used in Dance Dance Revolution?). Even a reggaeton track like Don Omar's "Conteo" somehow fits in this universe, fueled as much by gasoline as by testosterone. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Detroit-bred rocker/rapper Kid Rock has reason to be "cocky," as 1998's multiplatinum Devil Without a Cause established the multifaceted artist with the Southern rock influences as a generally likable braggart able to back up his boasts musically. Rock's Twisted Brown Trucker backup band also spawned a successful solo career for DJ Uncle Kracker, who wrote songs for--but whose turntables aren't on--Cocky. With a little help from fab friends, including actor David Spade, and musicians Sheryl Crow and Snoop Dogg, Cocky covers a mélange of styles, from rap to country, utilizing organ, pedal steel, and harp as well as metallic guitar solos. Ultimately, though, the 14 songs are schizophrenic and not always successful: on "Lonely Road of Faith," Kid Rock turns in a anthemic ballad nearly worthy of Lynyrd Skynrd, whose "Freebird" he samples in the laid-back R&B-flavored "You Never Met a Motherf**ker Quite Like Me," while Crow's vocals on the gentle, country tune "Picture" and the plodding "Midnight Train to Memphis" contrast with the metallic riffs of "I'm a Dog," the nasty "sex rhymes" of "WCSR," and the rapped boasts of the narcissistic title track. Cocky? Indeed. Commendable? Dubious. --Katherine TurmanCustomer Reviews:
Superior now than in retrospect .......2007-04-26
Although there are some great old-school style Kid Rock songs on here (such as 'Forever', the self-titled track, and WCSR with Snoop Dogg) , the country-flavored tracks represent a good portion of the album. In fact, there are more country/country-rock songs on here than from any other genre. Some fans will not be able to get over this, but as someone who has more or less outgrown rap-metal they actually come out as refreshing years later. I'm not typically a country fan at all, but songs like 'Lay It On Me', 'What I Learned Out On The Road', and 'Lonely Road of Faith' are very well-done.
Unfortunately, there are also some stinkers on this album as well, such as the hugely overrated single 'Picture', but the good definitely outweighs the bad. Dust off your copy of this and give it a try; you just might like it now.

It's Bragging When You CAN'T Back It Up.......2006-07-30
The main disappointment is the fact that Kid Rock doesn't stick to what he does best, which is the rapping. One or two country-ish songs could be acceptable in the mix, but putting it on the whole second half of the album doesn't cut it. The rapping or metal screaming placed in his country songs seems really extraneous, as well. There are definitely some good moments, but the album just doesn't live up to its predecessor and it gets old to hear Kid Rock boasting throughout the CD when his material doesn't back it up.
Raw but immature.......2006-03-27

Is Kid Rock about to drop the first half of his stage moniker? Some alarmingly mature cuts on his sixth album, addressing the woes of single parenthood ("Single Dad") and painful separations ("Cold and Empty," a cover of Bob Seger's "Hard Night For Sarah"), might suggest so. But that's only part of the story. As Rock reiterates on "Son of Detroit," a butt-kicking revamp of David Allan Coe's "Son of the South," "I like country, soul, rock and roll, and I love me some hip-hop." Yet compared to his previous work, that last flavor takes a back seat to the other three: Hank Williams, Jr. drops by for the swaggering "Cadillac Pussy," Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin' Love" gets a gritty nu-metal update, and ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd receive shout outs. Have no fear, fans--even as he reconciles having a child with acting like one, the Kid still lives to rock. --Kurt B. ReighleyCustomer Reviews:

Kid Rock does songs on here with William Hanks Jr (country singer), Billy Gibbons (of ZZTop), and Sheryl Crow. He has one rap song, a few country ballads and the rest are good rock and roll that is much different than anything he's made before.
In his past albums he switched around from genre to genre but he has found the music that soothes his soul which is country rock that surprisingly still lives up to his name of "The Kid Who Can Rock"

The splicing together of nu metal, rap, funk, and sterile electronica laced with dark melodies as infectious as anything Britney has to offer inspired 6 million people to purchase copies of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other. With Chocolate Starfish, they perfect their formula. From the electro-infused "Intro" through the contagiously chugging "My Generation" to the straight-up rap of "Getcha Groove On," Chocolate Starfish is a slick, clinical, and flawless platform for Fred Durst's effortlessly savage--and occasionally unintentionally comic--sociological rants geared toward disaffected youth. Ultimately, though, it's that undeniably intelligent musical backdrop--the brooding guitar sound that gave the Mission Impossible 2 theme haunting new life and menace, and that defines "Hot Dog," "Full Nelson," "My Way," "Rollin'," "Boiler," and "It'll Be Okay"--that makes this a seething work of genius. The fact is, with rap and rock saying pretty much the same thing, Limp Bizkit have plenty of competition. They just do what they do better than everyone else. --Dan GennoeCustomer Reviews:

To the person who posted this piece of s**t of a review...What the hell have you been smoking?! I swear your review is the most funniest I have ever read here on Amazon and when I finished reading it I was giggling with laughter!...If you think Limp Bizkit is the greatest heavy metal band, then why are they not around anymore?! Limp Bizkit doesn't even come close to being a heavy metal band...By the way how the hell can you even say Metallica, Slayer, or Pantera are a nu metal band when they are NOT?! They don't even come close to being nu metal you stupid dumbass. Nu metal would be bands like Korn or Linkin Park or that band called Limp Bizkit. What I don't get is how you think Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix are posers when they were doing solos long before Limp Bizkit even existed. Fred Durst doesn't even come close to being a genius because either he or someone had come up with the most dumbest cd title I have ever read..and it's people like you that makes me really laugh because smart people know when to stay the hell away from MTV because they don't know what a real rock band is or a metal band for that matter... That's why they suck b*lls*

Florida-bred metal-rappers Limp Bizkit sold a million-plus records of their debut largely on the strength of a George Michael cover song. But the band indeed had "Faith" and the group's second outing proves that the Bizkit have the goods. Still, it seems as if boastful frontman Fred Durst is loading the band's deck again, this time by including scads of guest vocalists, such as Stone Temple Pilots' singer Scott Weiland, Method Man from Wu-Tang Clan, and Korn's Jonathan Davis. (In fact, Korn gave Limp Bizkit a leg up in the industry.) But the 16 diverse yet cohesive tracks on Significant Other don't need any help. Not as heavy as their mentors Korn--or as they are on their debut--Bizkit give Everlast a run for his money on the tuneful and appealing "Rearranged." "Just Like This" is another winning hip-hop and rock entry, while the amusing and memorable "Nookie" (as in "I did it all for the nookie") has self-deprecating lyrics not unlike the Offspring's "Self-Esteem." Bizkit segues with ease from pleasing rock and hip-hop amalgam to spooky Tool territory on "Don't Go Off Wandering" to moshable moments in the entreaty "Show Me What You Got." No hooks, no melody, weak beats, 3 power chord guitar part, inane rapping, kareoke singer, immature, meaningless lyrics etc........2007-02-22
This is the band that all the "cool" kids in the early years of highschool were into, along with fellow posers Linkin Park. All those stupid fools wearing baggy pants with the crotch part down to their knees, with those key chains or whatever they're called hanging out of their side pockets, wearing their stupid baseball caps, imitating their talentless idol Fred Durst. Those people who thought that Blink 182 and Good Charlotte were good punk bands. Y'know, the people who would sacrifice their education, and hence, their future, in favour of running after a ball in a field and dedicating their lives to some stupid teenage fad like skateboarding, which would last around 4 years, and following stupid fads like nu-metal, all to make some fat, bald, CEO, who would fit their definition of "uncool", rich.
Now, back then, I wasn't really into contemporary music. And looking back now, I can understand why. With talentless hacks like Limp Biscuit (notice how bad their name looks when you spell it correctly) infecting the radiowaves with their tuneless drivel, it's no wonder I didn't find it appealing. Of course, back then, I wasn't aware of real bands like Iron Maiden and Hypocrisy and the only good music I could find was classical and videogame OSTs. This all made me feel that I was somehow "abnormal". I mean, how could so many of my classmates be wrong about bands like this? It all made me feel as if there was something wrong with me. But now, having listened to this talentless drivel, I know that there certainly wasn't. In fact, I now know that I was the only normal one there, and it was everyone else that had the problem for liking this load of feces.
OK, perhaps I should explain why anyone who knows the slightest bit about music would realise that this is one of the worst albums ever made.
My first problem is that the whole album is completely devoid of hooks and melody. Even the singles "Nookie" and "Break Stuff", which are widely regarded as the album's best songs, have no hooks in them. The only way to explain how these sold is marketing. For example, Limp Biscuit used to pay radio stations to play their singles (which also makes them some of the biggest hypocrites ever, considering there is a hidden track on this album called "Radio Sucks". Way to bite the hand that feeds you). There is absolutely nothing catchy about these singles. They have absolutely no melody whatsoever. Even I could have written better music when I was 12. The only way to explain their success is their mass exposure.
Now, when an album has no melody and no hooks, it must contain some redeeming factors. Some examples are: speed, brutality, complex instrumental work, good beat, meaningful lyrics. Limp Biscuit has none of these.
Instead, we get an amateur guitarist who can barely play 3 chords (hell, just listen to Break Stuff), a talentless drummer who sounds like a five year old beating the drums with no sense of speed or rhythm, a bassist who's lack of talent is hidden under the annoying, completely unnecessary, scratching of the DJ. And to top it off, some of the worst rapping and singing I have ever heard, and the most immature, meaningless, inane lyrics I have ever seen, courtesy of the worst frontman in rock 'n roll history - none other than the talentless Fred Durst.
Here are some samples of Fred Durst's lyrical genius:
"I did it all for the nookie, come on
the nookie, come on
so you can take that cookie and stick it up your(yea)" - Nookie
"it's just one of those days where you don't wanna wake up
everything is ****** everybody sux
you don't really know why but you wanna justify
rippin someone's head off.
no human contact and if you interact, your life is on contract
your best best is to stay awake mother******
it's just one of those days!!" - Break Stuff
What is the meaning of these lyrics? It means that the standards of modern commercial music are so low that anyone reading this review could become a multi-millionaire in the music business. There is absolutely no clear rhyming pattern in any of their lyrics, and yes, they sound just as awkward when Fred Durst "raps". Speaking of the rapping, Fred Durst has got to be one of the worst rappers I have ever heard. He barely even makes an effort to stay on beat; the only good rapping on this CD comes from Method Man who features on "N 2 Gether Now". Plus his singing is karaoke at best. Fred Durst reminds me of the line from Eminem's diss against Everlast, "Quitter" - "He can't rap or sing, but he wants to do both". Although it was directed at Everlast, I think it perfectly describes Fred Durst.
Many people think Limp Biscuit's early albums, including this one, are actually worth listening to. Having listened to it, I cannot understand how anyone could have liked it in the first place. The fact that this band has sold millions of records speaks volumes about the sad state of the music industry these days. I cannot understand how anyone who has listened to a decent amount of rock music, even other nu-metal bands, could consider this a good album.

Only an artist of Jay-Z's stature could have survived the indignity of In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, his stunningly poor second LP, and remain standing as one of the premier lyricists of his generation. Like Biggie did on Life After Death, Jay-Z diversifies his style here--with the Timbaland-laced "Nigga What, Nigga Who" and the dialogue "Coming of Age" (which revisits the young hustler from Jay-Z's first LP, Reasonable Doubt)--demonstrating that even when experimenting with flow, he can still crush his peers. Though the album falters notably at the end (the lazy funk of "Paper Chase," "Reservoir Dogs," and "It's Like That" could be safely cut without incident), Shawn Carter has nonetheless reclaimed his mantle as rap's leading don. --Jon CaramanicaCustomer Reviews:
HOW COME HAVE WE LET THIS RAPPER GET FAMOUS ????.......2007-07-07
Just and only for this reason, I own this album of Jay-Z.
According to me, Jay-Z does well at Rap just and only in the collaborations with other rappers, that have him a guest in their albums, like Foxy Brown in "ILL NA NA " in the excellent track " I'll be" feATURING jAY-z OR LIKE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. in " Life after Deafh" in the nice track "I love the dough".
For the rest, Jay-z IS USEFUL FOR NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!
So a question rises in spontaneous way : HOW COME HAS JAY-Z GOTTEN SO FAMOUS ?
PERHAPS THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE ME, THAT BOUGHT A CD OF JAY-Z BY MISTAKE !!!!!!
WE have to support and let get famous talented rappers like Redman, Camp Lo, M.O.P., Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, Onyx etc, and not, by mistake, rappers like Jay-Z.
If you want to buy a nice rap album, please check up my rap listmania, just clicking on my nickname and clicking above my listmania. Here there are 40 Hip-Hop albums choosed by me just for winning people and not for fans of the mortal masochism rap !!!

It's A Hard Knock Life For Us (4 stars).......2006-07-05
Jay-Z's third album Hard Knock life was a boost in his commercial sucess. More money, more cash, more hoes...and what not comming to him. Ironically, he decides to take a dive in the subject on the song "Money, Cash, Hoes". His second single "Hard Knock Life" was a rememberable song, because it was played on the radio. No problem with that, but it was stuck in my head. "N***a What?, N***a Who?" (or Jigga What? Jigga Who?) is a fast paced song featuring Jaz-O and Amil. I have the edited version of this CD, and for some reason they took out the entire hook to the song, so I'm just left with blank spots as the chorus and Amil comming in as the song fades out. One of my favorite tracks is "Reservoir Dogs" with The Lox, Beanie Sigel, and Sauce Money. Another favorite track is "It's Alright" with Memphis Bleek, rapping decent, but the beat makes the song more enjoyable.
There are a few skippable tracks though. "Comming Of Age (Da Sequel)" is okay, but I like the first one on the Reasonable Doubt album. "Ride Or Die" and "If I Should Die" both sounds dry and slapped together. "Paper Chase" isn't all that good because Foxy Brown spits some trashy rhymes in the beginning. The well known hit "Can I Get A..." from the Rush Hour OST. I have the radio edited version of this album, but I've also heard the explicit version to the song and it sounds trashy because of it's heavy vulgarity (mostly comming from Amil).
Those are the only flaws on this album. Other than that, if you love Jay-Z or mainstream 1998 rap music, I recommend this to you.

The History of Rock arrives as the sort of superstardom-celebrating release that can buy a hot-selling artist time. (Think, say, G N' R Lies.) After 8 million (and counting) sales of 1998's Devil Without a Cause, the trailer-rockin' rapper is out to remind the world that it hardly started there. Mostly drawn, and often retooled, from his out-of-print Polyfuze Method and Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp, these tracks display a "funky country hick" already on point with his knowing, hardheaded combo of old-school beats and classic-rock guitars. An "American Bad Ass" for sure, but also an artist who could come only from America, Kid Rock brings the noise--not to mention the bread and the circus. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Buy the PA Explicit Edition!.......2005-10-21
1) My mom hates PA CD's and would REALLY hate the Kid.
2) The editing on Kid's CD "Cocky" was very impressive.
OK, quite frankly, the editing on this CD sucks. I still say that "Cocky" is actually better edited, but this CD IS NOT! Most of the songs are KILLED.
For example, "EMSP" is something like:
"I'm the mufinerkthin gijklvfu ergjeeg hoge Early Morning Stoned... Pimp."
"EMSP" and "American Bad A**" got the worst of it. I heard the uncut "American" first, and loved it. It felt strange to have almost all of it slaughtered. This CD would get a four, IF IT WERE UN-EDITED! But, half of the time, it sounds like Kid's just speaking gibberish. I don't know if I should be appalled or honored by how much the editors wanted to remain true to the album. They'd obviously rather screw up the ENTIRE CD just so fragments of crude phrases are in there.
For example, in the original "American", Kid says "And you can suck my ****", but in this one, a girl replaces him, saying "Radio Edit". The edit of "Cowboy" made the phrase sound good; it sounded like a mockery of how his songs are butchered before making it to the radio, but in this case, it just sounds stupid.
Also, if you use an iPod Shuffle, heh, keep this album off of it. Normally, you could fit about 100 3:50 songs on it, but some of these songs are worth two or three songs ("Prodigal Son" is about 6.5 minutes, "EMSP" is about 7.5 minutes, and "My Oedipus Complex" is 8.5 minutes!).
Speaking of "Oedipus", don't be turned off by the title. It is not a dirty song about marrying is mom or some crap like that. It's about his grudge against his dad for being an awful father. Then, at the end, he sings his father's side of it ("I always loved you! I always cared for you! Just never wanted you to go through what I've been through! I tried to raise my ****ing family just the best I know, and now I'm hated like the devil and for why I don't know!")
I thought, buying this CD, that "American" would be the only really good song. I bought the CD because the song's titles sounded punk (which was the mood I was in), and I already loved "American", but I was pleasantly surprised: "Dark and Grey", "American", "My Oedipus Complex", and "F**k That" (Which was killed in editing; the word "f**k" is replaced by a strange sound effect that makes it sound stupid) are, 'ow you say... AWESOME!!!!!! "Oedipus" is VERY addicting!
In summary, buy the PA version of this CD; it's worth 4+ stars! This one is three because of the sucky editing. Also, everyone says this is Kid's worst CD, so, if it is, I CAN'T WAIT to hear his best!
P.S. During "Ya' Keep On", Kid says "I'm like Moses, but the mike's my staff! Laying down them 10 commandments: 'Thou shall not dis the Rock... D@mn it!" For some reason... this always makes me laugh out loud, or become so filled with punk rock energy that I LOL, but, either way, the line is golden.
GREAT FOLLOW UP TO DWAC!.......2005-08-06
