Navigating Van Morrison's extensive catalog since 1993 is a formidable task even diehard fans might not want to attempt. The Irish icon has flirted with blues, jazz, country, pop, Celtic, and his own style of indescribable into-the-mystic spiritually-oriented poetic folk on his numerous releases, making for quite a thorny culling assignment. So the EMI brass were probably ecstatic when the singer took the job himself. He weeds through a dozen or so albums released since Volume 2's mile-marker, and adds a clutch of previously unavailable mixes, rarities, and live tracks. I was excited to hear that Van had out a new album. I've been a huge fan since the 70's.(that's dating myself, isn't it). This album is a nice mix of music and includes some duets with other artists. I'd like to see some brand new music from Van, but this one is great.

I won't call this definitive, but the collection's got some previously unreleased and seldom heard numbers that merit the price and hype. This is a very listenable CD that's something you can just stick in the changer and let it play. Definitely worth the money.

Continuing writers block.......2007-07-10

Despite having most of this already I paid out my money and what did I get? A reasonable overview with some obscurities, one of which "Blue and Green" is worth the cost on its own. While the music is all first class the compiling has created some jarring between tracks. I've always loved The Skiffle Sessions album but Lost John between Leaves Come Falling Down and Tupelo Honey sounds bizarre. Nearly all the tracks he has re-recorded are done better in their original incarnation and one gets the feeling that with this, the movie "best of" and the country abomination Pay The Devil before them that he has nothing to say at present. I love Morrison's music and sincerely hope there is more of it to come, its now been a fair number of years since there has been an album of original material and he is overdue for his muse to return.

The Legend Continues..........2007-07-04

This 'Best Of' is a must for any Vanatic (Van fan)... but more importantly it is a must for anyone who thinks Van's career ended in the 1970s... all the tracks on "Vol. 3" are from 1993-2005 - Van's later writing and singing are well represented on this compilation and with a superb supporting cast of John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Tom Jones, Carl Perkins, Lonnie Donegan, Bobby "Blue" Bland and the great Georgie Fame as they come along for the journey...

Van is still a mighty force in a world that needs more soul and less pop.

No need for much analysis here. An excellent Beach Boys compiliation. It's got all of the radio hits, the fun in the summer in the 60s. Maybe that's why "In My Room" and "When I Grow up to Be a Man" aren't here, which is because they're more thoughtful and introspective. Too bad, but what's here is excellent, great ambassador from its era.

The classics like Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, and Good Vibrations are all included in this CD that is guaranteed to get your blood pumping. Its hard to resist getting up and dancing to these wonderful tracks. If you like the Beach boys, you are sure to love this album. Its got all the right tunes and grooves. At least Rod Stewart is consistent. Long accused by critics of selling his considerable interpretative talents short and playing it safe for the trappings of fame, Stewart revisits the font of his latest career revival here. But while 2002's It Had To Be You at least turned on the novelty of hearing raspy Rod the Mod tackle a slate of American pop standards with a boozy, world-weary tone that sometimes reinforced the originals' intent with trans-generational flair, the British rock icon unfortunately reverted to form a year later on this 14-track sequel. Set against the laconic, cocktail-friendly productions of vets Richard Perry and Phil Ramone, Stewart's performances seem strangely detached throughout. Even when offered the chance at some real human interaction on a pair of ill-conceived duets with Cher (who at least attempts to bring some dramatic flair to "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered") and Queen Latifah (whose recent turn in Chicago informs the title track), Stewart seems almost blissfully unaware of their presence. These are songs that virtually demand to be acted out, not phoned in. Brilliant vocal performances often reinforce the notion of "the singer, not the song;" here that old adage sounds more like a suggestion of where to place the blame for this album's disappointments. --Jerry McCulley

What I was wishing for!.......2007-07-21

As a fan of the Class of 3000, I had been deeply disappointed that the songs weren't available as an album when I checked around Christmas time. But HOORAAAYYY! Cool non-babyish music by an "urban" artist that elementary school aged kids can enjoy with their parents? YES! As the mother of a nine yr old boy, I absolutely cringe at the lyrics of popular songs on the radio, and I would not consider myself particularly prudish at all. In fact, quite the opposite. I have been known to enjoy some down and dirty music myself, but for the kid? He's not ready for all that yet. As a music loving family, though, where do we look for jams? Especially rap or hip hop? Lil Bow Wow can only take us so far...

I have been lovin' Outkast for years and years and am so thrilled that Andre has made this creative choice. Never being one to play to stereotypes, he has made an awesome "family" album. If only other hip hop fathers would get over their gangsta selves and make music that they would let their own kids listen too!

This excellent compilation offers something for everyone: great ballads like Kiss You All Over, Fool If You Think It's Over and Emotion, catchy pop in the form of Stumblin' In, Which Way You Goin' Billy, Kung Fu Fighting, Rivers Of Babylon (not really hard to find), Beautiful Sunday and Love Is In The Air, plus some soulful moments with Right Back Where We Started From and Love Really Hurts Without You. The two most eccentric tracks are the vocal masterpiece After The Goldrush by Prelude and the gravel voiced UK singer Hurricane Smith's Oh Babe What Would You Say? His other hit, Don't Let It Die is also something to get hold of. In its quality and variety these songs prove that the decade of 1970s was the golden age of pop. The CD is beautifully packaged with an informative booklet providing information on each of the songs.

Real Music.......2007-07-09

These songs are refreshing to listen to because they are not remastered with the high tech, bumped up, synthesized overkill decibel/ frequency levels of newer CDs. It's just the same, normal music we listened to in the '70s. The songs are in their original format. You can actually hear xylophones in Chris Rhea's "Fooled if You Think it's Over." There were some songs I'd never heard of, but the ones I recognized were worth the price.

If you didn't live in a cave or a commune in the '70s, hopefully you'll listen to this CD and find yourself occasionally saying, "I remember that song!" This CD is a great value and with hits such as "Right Back Where I Started From," "Magic," and "My Angel Baby," you can't go wrong.

For the most part, this is an incredible collection of songs that I haven't heard in a really long time. While I honestly cannot remember some of the songs ever being worthy of the title "hard to find," most of the CD did bring back some good memories of good friends, and times when we could actually understand the lyrics of the songs that were popular at the time.

Fashion be damned: Pop culture is just one big Hometown Buffet for writer-director Quentin Tarantino. Thus the hip-hop of Wu Tang's RZA (who, along with composer Charles Bernstein, concocts what passes for the score's traditional cues) somehow finds itself but one ingredient in a heady souffle that includes vintage TV and film cue rarities (Al Hirt's main title from The Green Hornet, Bernard Herrmann's haunting theme from Twisted Nerve, the spaghetti western melodrama of Luis Bacalov's "The Grand Duel," Isaac Hayes in full blaxploitation mode on "Run Fay Run"), Charlie Feathers' vintage rockabilly and a pan-kitsch sensibility that encompasses Zamfir, Nancy Sinatra's angst-in-the-pants take "Bang, Bang" and Santa Esmeralda's disco-era workout of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Tarantino's contemporary Japan-Pop selections are no less giddy, ranging from Meiko Kaji's sultry "Flower of Carnage" to The 5.6.7.8's loopy "Woo Hoo." Thank you so much for sending me the CD's. They are great and I have been playing them over and over again. I have had so much trouble finding them and I am greatful I have found this website and I do plan to order some more in the future.

Disappointing.......2007-05-26

There are really only two tunes on this album that are both hard to find and desirable, and I bought it for the rarer of the two- Jim Pepper's great "Witchi Tai To" from the long out-of-print album, "Pepper's Pow Wow."

Unfortunately I was terribly disappointed to discover that the version presented here is a very short 2 minute and 55 second version, without the introductory chant. Luckily the version of Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata" presented here was also one I wanted for my collection, but that's a lot to pay for one song.

As for the other sings on the disk- a few are winner, most are forgettable, and one- "Papa Joe's"- was incredibly annoying when I originally heard it on the radio, and time has not changed my opinion!

The Search Is Over.......2007-01-10

This cd contains a lot of tracks that I had been searching for in second hand shops but was told I would never find them by the less than helpful sales staff.The songs were all on this one cd.

For a month, XM radio counted down every charting song from the 40's to the present. Quite ambitious, and an incredible listen. I here this song I love, but didn't get the name. A week later I purchase this CD and "Witchi Tai To" is on the CD. Great luck for me. "My Boy Lollipop," "Black is Black," "Tobacco Road" - all great songs. Okay, Lollipop isn't a great song, but it's hilariously fun.

This disc provided me with some long sought after tunes from my youth. Typically the disc contains songs I tolerated, a few I never heard of, However, the producers sought to include songs which mean something to many.

I am a piano teacher who also teaches voice, and this CD has been a lifesaver for me, it has helped improve problems with my voice students that
common popular exercises have failed to achieve. The breath control exercises especially have been an enormous help, and my students find them
not only challenging but fun as well. The warmup exercises are a little unique, bringing in tweet, hweet, and unique ways to improve sound production with exercises that combine air production with compression against the lips and teeth. The exercises as a whole help students with the lower register as well as the upper, and effectively improve power without yelling. A great program, I highly recommend!

First of all, I love this CD. It is a great collection for Madonna's 1990-2000's career.
However, I was a bit disappointed since it adds nothing special. That is there are no new songs, or special mix.

If you are looking for Madonna's hit songs in one CD, this is a great
album. However, if you are huge fan of Madonna and already having all the CDs of her, there is really nothing special about this CD.

Moreover, many great songs are not included.

I won't say to everybody this greatest hits is highly recommended. Being that I never heard all of her albums, so a true fan may feel like some songs is missin'. However for me, who is just really startin to seriously get into pop is somewhat satisfied with these and this is a 5 star collection to me. Some of the tracks I love, a couple I don't like at all and the rest I just like.

Director Cameron Crowe is the kind of guy who you just know makes killer custom compilations for his friends. Lucky for us, this is basically what this album is. While it¹s nominally linked to Crowe's movie of the same name, it feels like a leisurely stroll down his record shelves. The tone here is a lot more varied than on the first CD, which was mostly rootsy Americana. Sure, there are return artists like Tom Petty ("Learning to Fly," from 1991's Into the Great Wide Open), Ryan Adams ("Words"), and Lindsey Buckingham ("Big Love"), but the newcomers are more intriguing. Two of the best and least expected ones are paired in the middle of the album. The lovely, dreamy "...Passing By" was culled from the 2001 debut by German electronica master Ulrich Schnauss; following it are Sweden's Concretes and their buoyant, '60s-infused "You Can't Hurry Love" (not the Supremes tune). Meanwhile, Rachael Yamagata's "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" is a cover, and it preserves the wonderful mix of folk and pop of the 1971 original by cult icon Judee Sill. ... so I totally have a soft spot for the movie and soundtracks. I just love the music from all of the soundtracks. Any southern folk/rock appreciater will like it . . . and definately any fan of Patty Griffin will love it. Moon River is great. And if you get a chance, watch the movie twice, trust me, it's the second time that really counts.

The second volume is almost as good as the first........2007-06-05

From the opening lines of Tom Petty's Learning to Fly (which was a surprise omission from the original soundtrack), volume 2 picks up where volume 1 left off, a beautiful mix of eternal hope and infinite melancholy. Ryan Adam's English Girls Approximately is simply brilliant, as are most of the other tracks, Funky Nassau Pt 1, the achingly gorgeous Summerlong and who can forget The Temptation's I Can't Get Next To You. Simply think of the scene where Orlando Bloom is about to end it all on the exercise machine when the phone rings. True story, I have even installed the same short clip from the song as the ringtone on my mobile phone. This is one CD that will suerly turn 'your grey skies blue.' Word of warning though, do yourself a favour and skip the track What Are They Doing In Heaven Today by Washington Phillips, it is simply the worst song I have ever heard! And what happened to Ruckus' version of Freebird? That is the only glaring ommission from the soundtrack. Once again, thumbs up again to director Cameron Crowe, his CD library must be truly amazing to unearth gems like these. Overall this was almost as good as the volume 1 soundtrack, but not quite.

The movie was pretty good, and the songs seemed to be appealing. I bought this volume and volume one for my wife, for her first Mother's Day. I gave one star to volume one as well, and have the same report for this cd also; we patiently waited for a good song, and I think we found one marginally acceptable one.

As the movie isn't that good,it music delivers so much and the both soundtracks are a must have for every music fans.Such talented artists and moving songs.What's funnier is that overall the CDs aren't my favorites but the creators managed to create such an atmosphere,world,sensation,ect...around it that I can't help but love theme for what they make me feel.It's true,this one's better but buy the first to cause one without the other's not the way it's supposed to be.
