Ruffhouse Records, a Philadelphia-based independent label, has been churning out chart-topping hip-hop hits since the late 1980s. To celebrate their first decade of gold, platinum, and multiplatinum successes, the label has compiled a greatest-hits package that boasts its musical track record. The majority of Ruffhouse's hits have been megahits--the Fugees' "Killing Me Softly," Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain," Kriss Kross's "Jump"--that have so dominated radio, television, and pop culture that you may find it tough to go back and listen to them now. But this collection also reveals the depth of Ruffhouse's talent pool (Nas, Lauryn Hill, and newcomer Pace Won, among others), which is well worth diving deeper into. --Celine Wong

4 out of 5 stars Not the greatest.......2005-08-22

This a pretty decent greatest hits. With the exception of jump this is a pretty good trip down memory lane. Tim Dog let's NWA have it with F*ck Compton.Anything with the fugees is an instant classic so anyone of their songs would have fit comfortably. Bottomline, cop this.

4 out of 5 stars A PHILADELPHIA LABEL.......2000-01-09

I like this record and special this label because the artists in this company are #1. Check this: CYPRESS HILL'S insane in the brain, KRIS KROSS' jump, FUGEES' killing my softly, and many more made a great cd.

4 out of 5 stars Great but not the the greatest.......1999-10-11

Some songs are great, some are okay, some don't deserve to be in this album. I think Gone 'til November is the best song in here. Why the hell is the track F*** Compton placed in a prestigious record like this? I think the artist was just abusing his freedom to speak.

4 out of 5 stars a good cd.......1999-06-06

Tracks 4 and 13 are pretty cool. Having listened to Kriss Kross before, I bought this cd only for the song jump. I soon discovered that most of the songs suit just about anyone's taste. A good cd to have.

4 out of 5 stars One of last Ruffhouse recordings.......1999-05-16

This is a good record, but it may be one of the last from Ruffhouse since they have disbanded recently, but Cypress Hill vs. Jason Nevins on the track "Insane in the Brain" makes this album all worth it!
