Product Description
A trio of noted Australian musicians--Iva Davies, Richard Tognetti and Christopher Gordon--composed the film's score. They previously collaborated on "The Ghost of Time," a piece commissioned for the Millennium celebrations in Sydney, which came to the attention of Peter Weir. The director was so impressed, he played the piece on the Master And Commander set throughout production, and he asked its creators to write the music for his movie. The score interweaves "Old World" and "New World" music, reflecting the talents and backgrounds of its composers. Iva Davies hails from both pop and classical traditions; Richard Tognetti, one of the world's great violin virtuosos, taught Russell Crowe the ins and outs of the instrument; and film/television composer Christopher Gordon brought orchestral texture to the project. Given the period, it comes as no surprise that the score is infused with source music from Bach (Cello Suite) and Mozart, among other great classical composers. Percussion dominates portions of the score. "Drums signal the forward movement of the ship," says Davies, "that it's on a mission. It brings you back into the action." The score's biggest surprise comes with its use of synthesizers. "Peter doesn't make films in the expected way," says Davies, "and for that reason we wanted the score to be not what everyone expected. Peter wanted some scenes to have what I call a kind of 'futuristic' sense"--conveying the idea that these 19th century sailors were cutting-edge explorers.Customer Reviews:

Good incidental music but not great listening music - except the classical pieces.......2006-11-09
The second type of music is much more enjoyable to listen to. Those that have seen the film know there are several scenes in which people are playing music - for example, Aubrey and Maturin in the captain's cabin performing a cello-violin duet, or the sailors on deck playing sea shanties on tin whistles. The pieces chosen for the film range from Bach to traditional folk music, and are a welcome addition to the soundtrack. The performances are very good (including a cello solo by Yo Yo Ma), and the recording quality is excellent. Deserving special mention is the Boccherini piece (La Musica Notturna Delle Strada di Madrid), which serves as a second unofficial theme song for the movie. The piece itself is presented in its entirety, and there is a callback to the piece in the incidental music as well, which is a welcome ray of levity in an otherwise oppressive piece.
People purchasing this disc run the real risk of being disappointed - the incidental music works so well in the context of the film that you are likely to think (as I did) that the music is itself worth listening to alone. Unfortunately, I don't find this is the case, but the classical music that is included makes this a soundtrack worth having, especially for the Boccherini piece.
Great classical music accompanies bland original score.......2006-09-27

Album Description
With the release of FULL CIRCLE, Walter Trout has realized a long held dream - to invite musician friends from his 35+ year career together to compose and play together. His first new studio release in five years, FULL CIRCLE reflects Walter Trout's remarkable story, from his humble beginnings as a sideman in many a blues legends' band through his rising solo star, arriving as one of blues music's beloved interpreters. The project is a full circle in time and place, a journey through the range of styles that represent the blues music genre - a celebration of where the blues world is, where it has been and where it's going.
Among the 25 musicians appearing are John Mayall, Coco Montoya, Bernard Allison, Jeff Healey, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Sardinas, Guitar Shorty, Finis Tasby, Junior Watson, James Harman and Deacon Jones.
FULL CIRCLE is the most accomplished and satisfying release of Walter Trout's discography, and demonstrates his passion for music is just as great today as it was when he started playing as a teenager more than 35 years ago. He considers the new album a tribute to the people and the times that have helped shape his musical appreciation, demonstrating how the many styles within the blues genre can co-exist and mutually enhance each other without fight for rank or authenticity.

Guest-star projects can be such tiresome affairs. Too often, the high-profile "friend" is nothing more than the record label's idea of someone they can feature on the front cover to generate additional sales. Additionally, these performances are frequently overdubbed, so the artist and the guest never actually come in contact with each other. Thankfully, neither is the case on Walter Trout's first studio album of new material since 2001's Go the Distance. Not only has the hotshot guitarist worked and maintained friendships with these players, but they convened in the same studio at the same time to nail these tunes. Not surprisingly, the vast majority of Trout's friends are guitarists who--like him--prefer to charge through songs with the intensity of a salmon swimming upstream. Joe Bonamassa, Bernard Allison, Guitar Shorty, Jeff Healey, Junior Watson, and Coco Montoya all share guitar-duel duties, and while the results aren't exactly subtle, there's enough explosive firepower here to level a small building. Even an acoustic session with Eric Sardinas--a neighbor of Trout's--attacks like an unplugged Rory Gallagher on a hot Belfast night. John Mayall (keyboards/vocals), James Harman (harp), Finis Tasby (vocals), Deacon Jones (Hammond B3 organ), and Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward also bring their game faces, and sometimes songs, contributing to various tracks with energy and intensity. Trout plays with his usual all-stops-out bluster, but there is an obvious affection for his guests on every track, which both energizes and spurs him on to new heights on what is arguably his best and most diverse effort yet. --Hal HorowitzCustomer Reviews:

Wonderful.......2007-05-14
Elegant and fizzy........2007-03-10
David Benoit is back to where he started and where he belongs , at last.
After leaving the smooth jazz dock for a few years and giving audiences some terrific music from his heart, the David Benoit we all know has returned and in a big way.
He has gone back to his roots and brought back his signature sound and writing.
There are nine original tracks, one remake, and not a bad one in the bunch! The CD features such notables as Rick Braun, Andy Suzuki, Paul Jackson, Jr., Euge Groove, Nathan East, Jeff Lorber, Alex Al, Brian Bromberg Luis Conte, Alex Acuna and Oscar Castro-Neves.
David Benoit certainly sets the mood on the first kicking track "CAFE' RIO". The beat is fast with a samba sound. David's piano sound is crisp, funky and fun. You can hear the joy in his fingers on this track, and the gentle vocals that scat along with that samba beat add flavor and depth. Hearing it played live recently was even better.
On this beautiful, passionate and aptly titled album, every track is good with his distinctive style being stamped on each track. The rhythm section is also excellent.
It's a relaxed, yet quality Smooth Jazz that sounds not unlike Bob James' "Joyride".
It is produced by Paul Brown, Jeff Lorber and Jeffrey Weber.
The Bob James feel is most apparent on cuts like the Latin tinged "Café Rio"and the 80's Jazz Funk like "Beat Street".
The bossa nova classic by Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Agua De Beber" is given en exquisite reworking.
Other great cuts are " First Day Of School" and "6 P.M".
This is Benoit's finest album to date.
I will be purchasing more of his previous CD's/recordings.
You will love this elegant, sparkling, fizzy album.
Enjoy.

Amazing.......2007-06-06
Even If It's Not The Original, It's Still Good.......2006-10-06
This music is great, and I admire the fact that Ray, Robby and John continued without Jim. After all, just because your lead singer dies doesn't mean that you have to stop living. And besides, I like a lot of what I hear on this CD. "In The Eye Of The Sun" and "Variety Is The Spice Of Life" are my favorites. Is this the same Doors who created "Light My Fire"? No. But can the other three still perform well? Yes.
On a similar note, The Who have just recorded a new album. They are missing some of their band members too. But Pete and Roger continue to tour, and they still sound incredible.
In conclusion, I recommend trying to take this album for what it is. No it is not the same, but it's good. Don't let Jim's absence drag you down, just look at this album as three guys playing great music.
Just for the curious...........2006-08-07
The main problem here is the vocals, handled by Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. What were they thinking? Neither of them can sing, especially Manzarek, who actually has a good voice, but tries too hard to sound like a Soul man and a boogie-woogie rock-n-roll man. His vocals are embarassing, and this is even more sad given how well he could sing the Jim Morrison Doors' songs. Guitarist Robby Krieger isn't much better, though I certainly can tolerate his thin, nasally voice much more than Manzarek's deep baritone voice. At least I don't feel like turning the music off when Krieger sings. Still, Manzarek and Kreiger should not have thought that they could replace Morrison as singer. It was silly!! It would have been like Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler taking over lead vocal duties after Ozzy left Black Sabbath.
I have tried to listen to Other Voices, but have been so unimpressed as what little I heard, that I didn't bother to go back and give it another listen. It would have been too painful.
Full Circle, however, has about three very good songs on it. The Mosquito starts off kind of humorous (intentionally humorous, I may add) with Krieger singing in Spaniash (or Mexican, I can't tell the difference) about a very annoying mosquito that is making it tough for him to enjoy his burrito. Most of the song is filled with some very exciting jamming between Krieger, Manzarek and Densmore. Densmore in particular sounds more awake and excited on this track than on any other tune on both albums. Densmore helped write the next track, The Piano Bird, which is a very laid back, jazzy tune and one of my favorite songs here. Not very Doors-like, but good nonetheless. I can even tolerate Ray's singing on it! It Slipped My Mind is another very good song...it's catchy, has a good, bluesy guitar riff to it and musically would not have sounded out of place on L.A. Woman. Other than these three songs and some exciting musical passages here and there on the first half of Full Circle, the rest of this is pretty lousy. I don't think that Jim Morrison was the Doors or vice-versa, but The Doors were certainly MUCH MUCH better with him and more focused musically. And Morrison wasn't just a singer (and a poet), he was also a presence, something that Manzarek and Krieger definitely are not. And some of the song titles...Jim Morrison never would have let The Doors title one of their songs ' I'm Horny, I'm Stoned '!
For curious Doors fans only and not for the faint of heart...

Bursting with the airtight harmonies, feet-sweeping melodies, and scrub-free swagger the foursome from Philly's come to be known for, Boyz II Men aren't taking any chances with Full Circle, their sixth studio album (and their first on Antonio "L.A." Reid's Arista label). Full Circle's got everything we expect from the guys: the perfect falling-in-love ballad (the Babyface penned and produced "Color of Love"); the heartrending break-up ballad ("Oh Well," penned alongside mega producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis); the kickback midtempo ballad ( "Relax Your Mind," featuring Faith Evans); and the obligatory uptempo, let's-get-the-party-started number ("Ain't a Thang Wrong"), which is unfortunate, since it's the only track that breaks up the album's candlelit flow. Still, a genuine ardor seeps through the tracks, and Reid's meticulous production makes this outing a far stronger and more satisfying effort than the Boyz' last album, 2000's Nathan, Michael, Shawn, and Wanya. --Sylvia W. Kind of by the numbers but still a decent album.......2007-01-04
FULL CIRCLE, INDEED.......2004-06-20
All time greats.......2004-06-20
Boyz II Men has creativity that rival Prince and Michael, and vocal maturity matched only by Gospel greats Commissioned and Take 6.
I used to be a rap fanatic and thought music was for sissies and girls. That is, until Boyz II Men came along and helped me not only discover my voice for music. Now, instead of rapping and hearing girls say, "shut up", now I'm singing and hearing them say, "Oooh, do that again!" Music truly is a manly art when done correctly, as Boyz II Men has proven.
The only weakness of Boyz II Men is their marketing. Some of the best songs never make it to the radio or to video. The American public is partially to blame for turning their backs on Boyz II Men, instead listening to lesser groups who's names I won't mention (please, you know who you are). That's not to say these groups aren't talented - they are - but they're no Boyz II Men by far. Sorry, you're not.
And what is up with the way Americans view this group? I think we were so blown away by their lush harmonies and skillful voices over smooth tracks and slow tempos with great lyrics that we expect them to only sing slow songs. I'm so tired of hearing people say their fast songs aren't good or they're played out. Are you serious? This is a group of skilled men who've perfected their art. If they were martial artists with this same level of greatness, Bruce Lee would not be the best ever, he'd be 2nd to Boyz II Men.
Boyz II Men spends most of their time in asian countries because their largest fan base is there. Why? Wake up, America! This is and always has been a fantastic group, better than any other groups R&B has to offer and they deserve to be paid attention to and recognized as the best there is.
Be it slow, mid to fast tempo, or acappella, Boyz II Men writes and sings some of the best songs ever written. Slow songs like IT'S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE, UHH AHH, 50 CANDLES, YESTERDAY, DREAMS, MAKIN' LOVE DO YOU REMEMBER, DOIN' JUST FINE, OH WELL, I DO, LUV N U and I'LL SHOW YOU, they are unmatched in their level of skill. Mid and fast tempo songs such as MOTOWNPHILLY, ON BENDED KNEE, JEZEBEL, THANK YOU, TO THE LIMIT, HUMAN II, WHAT THE DEAL, COME ON, BABY C'MON, ROLL WIT ME, I'M OKAY, YOU'RE OKAY, ON THE ROAD AGAIN and I FINALLY KNOW...no one else in the music business has the depth, variety and maturity that Boyz II Men has. And this isn't even close to half the list of great songs they have!
The only song I haven't really cared much for from Boyz II Men is I CAN'T LET HER GO, produced by Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs. Mixing Puff with Boyz II Men, for this song, anyway, is like mixing dirty water with clean water. All you end up with is dirty water! The song wasn't terrible, but it's my least favorite from this group; it could've been better.
In this album, Boyz II Men has created the perfect blend of upbeat dance songs and songs with a more hardcore vibe with some of the best harmonies and ballads to date. Songs like AIN'T A THANG WRONG, WHATCHA NEED, ROLL WIT ME, ON THE ROAD AGAIN, and I'M OKAY, YOU'RE OKAY, light up the album with the hard baselines, great arrangements, and solid lyrics. All this, coupled with COLOR OF LOVE, an anthem of a hope for peace to the world, in a classic Boyz II Men style, and songs like MAKIN' LOVE, THAT'S WHY I LOVE YOU, LUV N U. And my personal favorite, due to its rich harmonies and deep meaning, I'LL SHOW YOU. I feel that this is their best work ever and, as the previous album title EVOLUTION suggests, they'll only get better, even with the exit of Michael "Bass" McCary from the group. Yes, sadly enough, it's true...
One more thing: Boyz II Men, as individuals and as a group, need to become better marketers. Just before the release of the FULL CIRCLE album, the group appeared on TV (BET) and Shawn Stockman called it "a pretty good album". I dropped my head in shame. Michael McCary then called it, "the best album we've ever made". Shawn Stockman's reply was: "...Okay", as if he didn't believe it was, which means he felt like he settled for less than the best. I could've punched a hole in the TV set. SELL THE ALBUM! YOU CAN'T DO THAT IF YOU SOUND LESS THAN TOTALLY HAPPY AND ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT IT! People will pick up on that and you'll lose record sales because of it! Why would anybody buy your album if even you don't like it?
Regardless, after reviewing this album for myself, I've come to the conclusion that this is a great work of art and I will buy every Boyz II Men album that comes out. This is how I feel about Boyz II Men:
"...I bought 2 copies, cuz other than that, all y'all other dudes is sloppy!"
-Jin (Learn Chinese), Rough Ryders, freestyle in the booth with Big Tigger on BET.
Be on the lookout for the upcoming album from Boyz II Men entitled THROWBACK, in stores August 24, 2004!
The end of the road.......2004-03-21
Boyz II Men's Arista debut, Full Circle, proves just how fickle and forgetful the average R&B fan can be. A great return to form for the guys, there are great songs aplenty like "Oh Well", "That's Why I Love You" (both produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) and "The Color of Love" (produced by Babyface). But the music world shifted by then; even fans of their previous album, the unfocused Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya, ignored this project and went to see what newer jacks like Dru Hill and B2K were up to. Plus, without proper promotion by executive producer LA Reid, the album flopped and the Boyz became another legendary act on Arista that became old-hat that year, along with Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, and TLC (the lack of promotion for all four acts would lead to Reid's dismissal). Now the only way Boyz II Men can stay relevant in today's Beyoncé/Alicia Keys/Ludacris urban world is if someone releases another greatest-hits compilation on them. But they're still legends in my book. -EJR

Lost in its own blissfull Reverie .......2006-02-15
I stumbled across Forest about two years ago when I was 17. At the time I knew nothing about acid folk, weird folk, whatever you want to call it... but something just intrigued me about the album. The band name, the artwork, the song titles, it all just had this vibe to it that I had been desperatly looking for. This music found me.. I didn't find it. The first time I heard Bad Penny I was brought to tears! It was so pure, and so true and so different! The way they use the instruments like paint brushes to just.. bring these landscapes and ideas to life is remarkable! The atmosphere in songs like A Glade Somewhere, Bluebell Dance, and Graveyard is so vivid and so strange but yet so familiar... it's crazy. Listening to songs like Gypsy Girl and Autumn Childhood.. you can almost see it playing out in front of you in a spectral ballet that you never want to end, and when it does you're left haunted.
I own multiple copys of these albums now, both on cd and vinyl. Forest has just become part of my being. People seem to compare them to Incredible String Band a lot, but I think Forest is another force altogether. You can certainly hear some ISB infuence here and there, but Forest hits me in ways ISB never could. You're going to think I'm crazy, but if you like the songs Solitude & Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath, I think you would really like Forest! Current bands/artists like Espers and Nick Castro (among others) are mining obscure hippy-folk for inspiration, and are creating some really amazing music. Derek Allenby (ex Forest) is still recording with a band called Southernwood, that is according to a blurb a read on a folk web page. I've found an mp3 of a song called Harvest Were You There?.. it's amazing! How bout' it amazon? Think you can find it for us? Anyway.. in case my opinion on Forest isn't clear... I love them, and chances are you didn't find this page by accident, so I highly recommend you pick this up. You won't be disappointed, I promise!

Even if you've followed the Hiero's decade-plus career, it sometimes helps to have a scorecard to parse out each member. On their latest family album, Full Circle, it's Pep Love who puts in the best work--his flow bobbing and weaving with a boxer's grace. In contrast to Casual's thunderous presence, Pep strikes like lightning and the two complement each other well on the thoughtful "Make Your Move." Souls' member Opio also stands out, especially on "Heatish" where he sprints off with outrageous lines like, "they know my skills/fire swept through your dialect/like the Oakland Hills." No song on Full Circle seems to offer the same crew combinations twice and the Hiero's longevity manifests in their enviable chemistry with one another. Though the disc offers few new surprises it still packs in a satisfying, 16-track serving of Hiero's quick-witted, quick-spitted lyricism and funk-fried beats. --Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:
This Group Came Full Circle!!! (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-02-05
I think the person who stood out the most on this album was Pep Love while Opio comes in a close second. He amazed me on the second track "Fantasy Island". As one of the spotlight reviewers said, most of the lesser known members get a chance to make an impact while popular artists like Del Tha Funkee Homosapien doesn't so often (not saying hes wack or anything, but he just not all over this album). I believe that disapointed a lot of fans not hearing him as much as they wanted to, but shouldn't knock this album because of that. There are many dope cuts here to listen to, like "Powers That Be", "Halo", and "Maggie May". "7 Sixes" is the final track that ends on a good note as each member spits 6 lines (Del is amazing, beginning every word with the letter "V" of all letter in his verse. How unique is that?), making it another stand out.
What really make me like this album is that I hear that the Hiero Crew sounding like they are doing what they love. Making good quality music, and pleasing their fans. Especially during shows, where you can hear some recording of them on this album. Even the Souls Of Mischief drop a song about getting ready to do a show, on the song "Chicago" about pleasing their fan base on that song. To me, that is how you do it.
There are some low points here though. Some of the tracks like "Shift Shape" suffer from an awkward hook. "Jingle Jangle" is another song that falls into that category. Some of the group's energy is unbalanced throughout portions of the album, but a listener might not notice it. Other than that this is one album that can be appreciated to be an addition to your hip hop collection.
Hieroglyphics are doing their own thing now. No longer signed to Jive and Elektra, the have the power to do anything they want, with out no higher up label execs giving them the red light. If you are new to Hieroglyphics, I recommend that you buy "Third Eye Vision" or maybe some of the members solo albums, before you listen to this. That way, you can hear how improved this group is and how they are in control of their own destiny. This ain't your average rap group people.
