Product Description

Black Cobra is a duo that is the product of four years of work between Jason (ex cavity) and Rafael (ex -16-). Both individuals are originally from Miami, Florida and Black Cobra formed due to both individuals visiting parents during holiday breaks. Eventually this resulted in trading riffs through the mail and sporadic visits to each others residences. 2006 finally sees the release of this eleven song goliath entitled “bestial”! As Aaron Burgess for AP wrote: this is “like karp with Jupiter size balls and swords for teeth”.

4 out of 5 stars Pummeling.......2007-04-09

This is the best CD I have heard yet this year and by far, the most jawdropping. I can only suggest that you buy this immediately and see for yourself. This has to be one of the most slept on bands right now. I'm not saying they're going to be huge but there will inevitably be comparisons to Big Business. Personally, I think they're even better... but that's just my taste.

It cannot be stated enough how heavy and powerful this cd is.

4 out of 5 stars LOVE IT,LOVE IT,LOVE IT...........2007-03-24

Two dudes grind out some crusty,kinda-Sabbathy sludge with varying tempo changes and heavy riffs - saw 'em open for Acid King & Jucifer, great show! This band has a dude from Cavity, which is an excellent point of reference - I find this a bit faster, more aggressive,a little more minimalistic. Can't wait for the next one!

5 out of 5 stars A must have to any thrash metal fan!!!.......2006-12-30

Agree with other reviewers, the early Sepultura was very influenced by Slayer, Bathory and Celtic Frost. Their primitive sound and the production delivers a thrash/black metal with attitude. I prefer the raw and primitive sound of this album for this type of music is welcome.

4 out of 5 stars Sepultura's roots!.......2006-08-17

"Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation" is where it all began for Sepultura. This album is actually a combination of Sepultura's first ep and first record. Sepultura almost didn't get discovered in fact. A record promoter (I don't know his name) was listening to a large hand full of demos from Brazilian metal bands and according to him almost all of them were really lack luster and run-the-mill. At least until he heard Sepultura's EP "Bestial Devastation" and something caught his eye. Thank the metal gods he didn't pass this band up. Sepultura would be band that would forever influence the world of heavy metal and have one of the most loyal fan bases for the next 10 years.

Granted "Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation" is far from Sepultura's best, however it was the beginning of something great. Moreover, the tracks "Troops of Doom" and "Necromancer" are Sep classics. Although the album heavily took from a Celtic Frost record, plus it is very easy to hear a huge Slayer influence in the record as well. But one has to over look this because the band members were only 18 years old at the time of the album recording. They also had a hard time speaking and writing English as well. They wrote their own music but used a lot of Celtic Frost's lyrics. "Morbid Visions" is by far the most death metal sounding record that Sepultura has recorded. Max's growls and Igor's fast paced drumbeats are quintessential death metal sound. Although there is also strong thrash feel as well. Max has stated that Slayer's early materia was very influential to Sepultura at that time. Now I won't go so far as stating that Sepultura invented death metal but this is a very early recording of that style of music. There were not too many bands to my knowledge that sounded like Sepultura at that time. In fact "Morbid Visions" and especially their second album "Schizophrenia" showed some the first combinations of death and thrash metal.

This album is Sepultura's roots, it laid the ground work for what was to be one of the heaviest, and intense metal bands to ever come. It wouldn't be for at least another 5 or 6 years until with the help of Andres Kisser, Max and the boys would create that true signature Sepultura sound we all know and love in the blazing release of "Arise". I think that is what make most of Sepultura's albums so good is that one can hear their sound evolving with each album they produce. "Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation" will forever be Sepultura's roots.

5 out of 5 stars The root of all evil!.......2006-08-04

Whats there to say about this that hasnt been said about Show No Mercy and Kill Em' All? This is rough, no frills pure thrash metal thats kicks you in the face as soon as you press play. Sure, production is lousy, but so what, this is an unadulterated rollercoaster through Hell!

While all the songs are good, my favorites are Necromancer, Troops of Doom (which sounds alot like the Slayer song "the Antichrist), and Morbid Visions.

If your a Max-era Sepultura fan, this is a must, but if your new to Sepultura, I suggest Arise instead.

3 out of 5 stars for hardcore Sepultura completists only.......2006-07-07

not that this is a horrible album, because it isn't. but when you compare this album to Schizophrenia, or Beneath The Remains, you can definitely tell that Morbid Visions was merely just an album made by a bunch of rebellious Brazilian kids on a tight budget. the sound quality of the recordings are below average, and back in '86 they were pretty much just emulating their influences - Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost - especially since they barely spoke any English. its somewhat amusing when you compare this album to say Roots for example. it sounds like 2 completely different bands. although they actually still play one or two songs from this album in their live set - Necromancer and Troops Of Doom... the bottom line is, if you enjoy generic non-American mid 80's death metal, then you might enjoy this. but for the hardcore Sepultura fanatics and completists this album can only be appreciated for its historical and nostalgic qualities.

2 out of 5 stars Got to start somewhere right?.......2006-03-16

I listened to this only a couple times...It's hoorible. However, they were inexperianced, didnt have a lot of money and couldnt speak a lot of english at the time, so I dont hold it against them...if you;re a diehard fan, pick it up....if not, then pass....get Chaos AD instead

    5 out of 5 stars Real good.......2006-08-06

Now this was quite some exciting music that Mick Karn managed to produce on this CD quite a long time ago. The playing and the sound are first-rate and really it is probably the best record by any member fo Japan.

5 out of 5 stars Aggressive and exciting........2005-04-12

Mick Karn's "Bestial Cluster" is a superb record-- on this, he's managed to balance the different elements of his music, his bass is front and center, but equal time is given to other instruments, and when he sings, its with a confidence that his previous vocals lacked. Add to that a stellar support cast-- "ambient with an attitude" guitar monster David Torn, fellow ex-Japan/Rain Tree Crow bandmates Richard Barbieri (synths) and Steve Jansen (drums, synths), and guest spots by such big names as Joachim Kuhn (piano) and David Liebman (soprano sax), and a great album comes forth.

It is Torn's voice second only to Karn's, that shines loudest-- his fretwork mixes and twists around Karn's rubbery bass into a potent combination, check out "Back in the Beginning" where the two twist and turn around Kuhn's masterful piano solo.

The album covers a number of moods-- from the nightmarish textures of "Back in the Beginning" and the agressive "The Drowning Dream" to the glam pop of "Bestial Cluster" to the funkiness of "Beard in the Letterbox" and "Saday, Maday". The material hangs together well, and this constant movement in mood keeps any of it from growing dull or tired-- the last three Karn-driven albums both suffered from a sort of mid-tempo malais (admittedly, "Dreams of Reason...." manages to top it most of the time), but this one escapes with a number of different faces. "Bestial Cluster" is a good place to start looking into Karn, and certainly essential for fans of either the man or fantastic bass playing in general.

    4 out of 5 stars A solid performance by a unique artist.......2004-12-06

I came across this gem in a small shop in San Francisco, and was pleasantly surprised by how good the album is. Performed with David Torn, and fellow Japan members Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri, Bestial Cluster showcases the many sides of Mick Karn. He plays a wide range of instruments, but at the center is always his dominating and unique bass sound. And his voice isn't half bad, either.

My favorites include the title track, The Drowning Dream, and Bones of Mud. If you're looking for an extension of Japan, this is not for you. There's nothing "pop" or "mainstream" about this. This is pure art-rock ala Karn,a nd I give it a big thimbs up.

I think Enthroned is a first rate black metal band. Apocalypse Manifesto was great and this one is even better. The hate, energy, and searing vocals are what I have come to expect from this outfit.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album by Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz.......2001-08-12

I've been looking for this cd for a couple of months now and I'm glad I found these two people are a joy to listen to. My mom has a couple of records by these two and I listen to them all the time as the last two people reviewed Bobby Cruz's voice hasn't changed and Richie Ray's piano playing is better than ever. This Live Album was recorded in Puerto Rico and it is a great album because it showcases their talents live I've always prefered Live albums over studio because the live albums always brings out the artists talent. Now my review of this great cd I love it because it brings me back to the old days where my mom and dad came from I'm only 23 and have been listening to latin music since 1997 and I love it now and thats all I listen to. My favorite songs on here are La Zafia, Richie's Jala Jala, and Mi Bandera. So if you are new to latin music or looking for great old time music then this cd is for you.

      5 out of 5 stars Just Great!.......2000-02-18

I've been long waiting to hear anything, absolutely anything from these two monsters and then these CD set came along...it's wonderful! These guys are truly a magic duo! Bobby's voice hasn't changed a bit, Richie's piano playing is as furious and genius as ever, the percussion arrangments and execution are marvelous, and the wind section, even though it doesn't sound as crystal clear as it used to sound is still impresive. I didn't like their using a drum set, I'd love to hear Richie playing an acoustic piano again not a Roland or a Rhodes or a Korg. Other than that, this is a great, great CD. If you like real Salsa (not the kind being done nowadays that sucks big time), if you enjoy geniality and talent you cannot miss it, it sure is a gift to one's hears.

5 out of 5 stars Latin Music Legends return in Top Form.......1999-12-06

I got this cd as an early xmas gift and it is all what I expected from this legendary band. Having seen them live just before they decided to retire (to religious activities), I was impressed of how Bobby has kept his voice fresh and powerful and Richie's talents as arranger, pianist, etc. are still unmatched in salsa music.

Only complaint: The record company decision to exclude from the recording the songs interpreted by former member of the band, the sultry voiced Miki Vimari, although they had enough " cd blank space" to do so.

        1 out of 5 stars Dumb.......2006-10-28

I never really got into Agoraphobic Nosebleed, with pointless blasts of "hypergrind" lasting between four to thirty seconds long, its about as musically satisfying as that damn "Laffy Taffy" song I keep hearing on the radio...

Scott Hull's guitar work in Pig Destroyer is awesome, and Agoraphobic Nosebleed would definitly be more interesting if he utilized ALL the strings on the guitar, and came up with some completely ear-melting riffs. Agoraphobic Nosebleed is themed around bizarre conspiracy theories and whatnot, so why not make the music utterly bizarre as well (think !T.O.O.H.!) The guitar parts on this album and all the other Agoraphobic Nosebleed albums are as sterile and interesting as Jennifer Aniston's personal life. Yeah, the drums are fast (its a drum machine...) as hell, but that doesn't by any means make this album "amazing metal" or anything close to that. If you want to hear amazing drumming listen to Kataklysm or 1349. If you want to hear better grind listen to !T.O.O.H.! or maybe Cephalic Carnage.

5 out of 5 stars Eight Girls Instead Of Nine.......2006-08-03

This is the first full length ANb CD I ever purchased, after finally warming upto their tracks on 'The Poacher Diaries' (I was way too into Converge to give them a chance then). And I must say this is by far the most brutal ear drum assaulting music I have ever heard. Uncomprehensible at times and occasionally just ridiculously hilarious, overall a stunning release from the most originally insane outfit in Grind history. Not to mention the artwork/Song titles which are some of the funniest most offensive things I have ever layed eyes on. The music is a monument of their earliest works; Violent Riffs and Bullet paced drum beats laced over acid induced screeching and roaring. Not best swallowed whole, this album is one to grow on. Although I felt the brilliant assault all the way through. In my opinion, the Covers are the very best this release has to offer; Such as 'Hungry Child', 'I'd Rather Be Sleeping', & 'Forgotten In Space'.
But the original stuff holds it's own on many disturbing yet enjoyable levels. The Best tracks are 'Hessian Bodyfarm', 'Lithium Daydream', 'Kool-Aid Feedbag', 'Eight Girls Instead pf Nine' (Possibly the best song title ever written), & 'My Life Is A Money Pit'. But there are far too many more to choose from.
Overall a great introduction to the craziest Hardcore out there.

5 out of 5 stars Convenient, Comprehensive, Mind-blowing.......2006-07-20

Bestial Machinery is the perfect release for any longtime Agoraphobic Nosebleed (ANb) fan, or anyone looking to check them out. The two discs span about 80 minutes over the course of their 136 tracks, and most importantly, the songs cover a couple of years worth of material. While ANb has been pretty crazy from the beginning, they have grown and evolved over time, so you get to see the direction they were heading in leading up to their full-length releases on Relapse (Honky Reduction and Frozen Corpse Stuffed With Dope). Some of this stuff I had heard before from owning splits and comps, but a lot of it was new to me, and the cover of Voivod's "Forgotten in Space" ripped my face right off. Worth every single penny. For first-time listeners, I would recommend picking this up first, since you can get a good idea of what the band's all about before diving into their full-lengths. Some of their later material (especially Altered States of America) is a little tougher to get into right away than this collection.

5 out of 5 stars Metal Genius Conviently Smashed Into 2 Discs.......2006-03-31

Agoraphobic Nosebleed never ceases to amaze me. I would say that they are Metal geniuses, prodigys even. Nothing is more joyous and relaxing then listening to Agoraphobic Nosebleed for hours on end over and over again till I start to bleed out of ever orifice on my body, which makes me come back begging for more. hmmm life is good. The booklet if full of hilarious pictures too.

5 out of 5 stars hold on tight!.......2006-03-18

if Pig Destroyer is a NASA fighter jet training, think of Agoraphobic Nosebleed as a shuttle ride into space at 22,500 mph! grindcore doesn't get much faster than this!
