If you are not familiar with Walter Jackson and you dig 70s soul music. Then look no further, this is one awesome collection of tracks.

Walter gained his first exposure with some fantastic recordings for Chicago-based Okeh! Records in the 60s. This CD focuses on the second half of his career and draws all it's material from his 70s/80s LPs and 45s.

A polio victim from his teenage years, Walter overcame great odds and expressed that pain through his deeply emotive baritone which never fails to knock me back in my chair, astounded at the depth of his singing. He seemed to have every human emotion within his reach, easily picking the most relevant one for the song using his glorious phrasing and impeccable sense of timing.

Walter died in the early 80s, I remember it well because he'd just had a bit of a re-surgence in the soul nightclubs of England with two records (both contained here) "Touching In The Dark" and "It's Cool", both are beautiful, both are emotional, and both are perfect examples of Walter's amazing gift. There is not a duff track on here - all are top notch.

The companion CD to this one is called "Feeling The Song" (not "Feelings" on the Collectables label) and it showcases Walter's more MOR-based stuff. For pure soul though, and for some breathtakingly emotional soul singing - buy this CD, you will not regret it.
