Pretty Decent Actually.......2005-12-29

I'm a big Ratt fan and I love all of Stephen Pearcy's work. I heard that he had, a few years ago, branched out and did an industrial metal album which seems very odd to me. When I saw this CD in a music store, it was only 4 bucks so I bought it. I was suprised at how decent the music actually was. The opening track Follow is incredible, very catchy. Synthetic Flesh is another good song. If you are interested in any kind of metal you will probably enjoy this CD. And hey, for 1 cent on amazon, you really can't go wrong.

Buck 65 takes us WAY out there.......2005-03-22

Sometimes you come across something so imaginative and innovative, that you can't help acknowledge it's presence. Buck 65 takes you outside the realm of your standard hip-hop template. The album sounds dark, fresh, unique, and ahead of it's time. Buck 65 isn't just the MC. He's also the turntablist, mixer, engineer, and producer of this fine album. He isn't afraid of taking blind leaps into the genre of hip-hop. His endless amount of ideas separate his work from other underground hip-hop acts, let alone the mainstream.

The lyrics displayed here are very unconventional. At first listen, you may think that Buck 65 is a thirteen year old boy. His lyrical delivery is certainly very different. He raps about being a well hung centaur ("The Centaur"). He has a lot to say, but no one listens because his "co** is so big". It may seem a bit juvenile at first, but in the end, the lyrics are so intriguing that you have to listen to it again. You are left pondering his uncommon lyrics even when you aren't listening to the music. Buck 65 finds great pride in finding rare samples to keep his listeners guessing. This lyric from "Driftwood" shows that quite well - "So don't ask what my drums are, 'cause I either won't tell you, or else I've got a list of phony records to sell you. 'Cause see, no one helped me and as a matter of fact, there's a thrill in the hunt for a platter of wax. It's called searching for the perfect beat, the honor is prestigious to those with the knowledge and to cheat is sacrilegious." Buck 65 also raps about his baseball team's real-life victory, step by step. Depending on your tastes, you may be left wanting more lyrics on the record. The lyrics may be on the forefront of the music on many tracks, but Buck 65 is also a very skilled turntablist. His highly stylized minimalist production on the record is truly a breath of fresh air. The album is all over the map. It sounds very calm and collected, yet experimental and complex.

You may not find "Vertex" to be the most groundbreaking album in hip-hop. But he has shown that his innovative approach, in addition to his overflowing amount of imaginative ideas, can really expand the listeners mind to the accomplishments of hip-hop.

Buck 65 - 1200 Hobo Metaforensic- Classic .......2005-02-26

I possess the Warner import of this classic, and am very reproachful for it, since I can recall many occasions when I simply passed off this Nova Scotian back in the late nineties, despite entreaties from a friend who knew Buck personally, and ignored Vertex entirely. The Metaforensics release has better artwork and is superior to the Warner release.

Anyway, each track of this album (actually Language Arts Pt 2) is episodic and replete with original themes and diverse wordplay. Buck 65's lyrics and whisperish delivery are not on par with anyone else in the game, and always starkly original. At times it appears as though he is attempting to let us in on little jokes and reflections coherent to only himself, but there are also many anecdotes and structure. He also does not fail behind the boards, and this is quite fortunate for there are probably only a handful of producers who could have achieved the sound Buck was vieing for with Vertex.

A great introduction to Buck 65 and his Language Arts series, though part 1 (96) is missing from Amazon's catalogue.

Very Interesting Music.......2005-01-24

If you are unfamiliar with the work of Buck 65, you should give this disk a listen, it is extremely compeling and thoughful music, that most everybody can appreciate. I have several friends who do not like most traditional hip-hop/rap, but are very entertained and intrigued by Buck 65. This is a great CD, but may take some time to grow on you. Totally Original, and very Artsy, a good snag for someone who wants to own some obscure music, and it doesnt get much more obscure than Nova Scocian Hip Hop, about baseball, centaurs, and sifting through garage sales for old records.

WOW!!!!!.......2004-09-23

Man-o-man! This was the first Buck 65 album I ever purchassed. I remember hearing some of his stuff late night on CBC Radio in Canada and thinking "what the fu_ is this??" I loved it right away. Needless to say I couldn't find anything on this guy. I checked out his website and even went to the underground record stores in the city and no one had it. Finally I found a copy of Vertex and on the cover was a crazy guy on the phone with a gas mask on. On the back was no track listings and just an ad for the distributor (Four ways to Rock - a b-boy doing a head spin).
So I'm thinking alright.... I get home and open the case to an all black cd. No booklet on the back of the album cover all it said was " artwork by some dude (can't remember his name - sorry) and everything else by Buck 65. To make a long story short Buck saved me. I had totally given up on hip hop (this was back in 99)Tribe was no more De La was quiet Outkast was cool but Buck came with it. Buck opened my ears to the likes of Anitcon etc. But still to this day he is my Hip-Hop hero. I met him in Ottawa before a show and told him all of this and he replied "Thanks Man, enjoy the show" So modest so cool so fresh so...get up off your ass and get it. It will blow you away

I have been listening to Rich(buck 65) for years now. Finally he's with Warner Can. and they are reissuing all of his past work. Now with Vertex, It's the 2nd album in the Language Arts series and I would have to say that this album is the best album out of them all. He uses all aspects of hip hop(rappin', scratchin', beatmakin') and does it all himself. And it is dope. Well what would you expect from one of the 1200 hobo's. Anyway, Buck 65, hip hop hero, canadian, all around good guy. Peacers
