One of the classic groups of the late 1940's/early 1950's, the Dominoes were led by Juillard-trained vocal coach Billy Ward, & are the bridge between the earlier Gospel & Ink Spots type of group & the coming world of Doo-Wop, R&B, & Rock 'n' Roll. Their best known hit 'Sixty Minute Man' was not only a vocal tour de force, but the first of the double entendre records which characterized early Rock 'n' Roll. This album contains all the hits of the original lineup plus the Rock 'n' Roll classic '60 Minute Man' all mastered from the original master tapes with detailed liner notes by Kingsley Abbott. 16 tracks. Not everyone's taste........2007-06-27

I love the song Sixty Minute Man, but I'm not wild about the rest of the songs. These are songs recorded in the Fifties, and I don't think they have held up very well. For someone with an interest in early rock & roll, this might be a great album.

Don't pass this CD up if you're a fan of The Dominoes, or of Clyde McPhatter and Jackie Wilson. The underground hit "Sixty Minute Man" (remember when some songs just couldn't be played on the radio?) alone is worth the price of admission, and the added bonus is hearing McPhatter and Wilson in early recordings--their voices distinctly recognizable--with Billy Ward's evolving but always superb group.
