5 out of 5 stars wonderful.......2007-06-21

Even though I've only heard about half of Win, Lose or Draw, what I've heard is excellent. "Can't Lose What You Never Had" is a really good song, though not quite at the same level as previous Allman Brothers bluesy rockers.

"High Falls" however, is the BEST instrumental I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. At nearly 15 minutes, it's a wonderful guitar jamming masterpiece. Probably the best instrumental the band ever made, or close to it. Seriously, this song alone is worth purchasing the album for. It's THAT good. True, there's some synthesizer notes mixed in, but that never hurt anything, and honestly, the entire jam doesn't sound dated at all either. It sounds like what you'd expect from the Allman Brothers- classic guitar playing, beautiful notes, a great emotional journey. Great song.

1 out of 5 stars The Allmans' equivalent of the Stones' Dirty Work........2007-01-22

Back in "the day", the Allmans made several classic albums: Eat a Peach, Idle wild South, Fillmore East, and the debut. After Duane's untimely death, they would continue to make good music, though it wasn't as good. But this is one of those beat-your-head-against-the-wall-while-wondering-how-a-band-so-good-as-this-could-make-this- kind-of-crap albums, sort of like those '80's AC/DC and Pink Floyd albums.
When the best thing on an album is mediocre (Can't Lose What You Never Had),
you're in trouble. When the worst enough to make you run from the room screaming in agony with your hands over your ears, you're pretty well screwed. When multiple songs are that bad, and you're sitll listening, you probably have masochistic tendencies. That describes this disaster perfectly: the best song (Can't Lose What You Never Had) is the most mediocre song I can imagine. Onto the worst: the ballads Just Another Love Song and the title track are both pathetic; the good-timey songs (Louisiana Lou & Three Card Monty John; Sweet Mama) are embarrassing. I'm no fan of the extended instrumental High Falls either - what the hell is a Moog synthesizer doing on an Allmans record?

4 out of 5 stars A different direction- still a classic.......2006-12-26

What stands out for me is the variety. The album opens with the infectious, bluesy "Can't Lose What You Never Had", followed by the country sounding "Just Another Love Song" featuring Dickey Betts on vocals. The jazz influenced instrumental "High Falls" (14:26) is reminiscent of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and alone worth the price of the CD. Betts also does some fine slide work on "Nevertheless" and "Sweet Mama". The vocals on the title song, "Win, Lose or Draw", are not up to Gregg Allman standards, but Betts' beautiful, soulful solo is noteworthy. What holds this album together is Betts' guitar sound- just a beautiful tone throughout.

5 out of 5 stars Underrated classic.......2006-02-10

Popular and a good seller in its initial release, this one doesn't get the airplay it deserves today. The first 6 tracks are all great clasic Allman Brothers. THe title is a tough Gregg Allman song, High Falls is one of Dickey's best instrumentals bar none, and the Muddy Waters cover" You cant lose what you never had" is also a great Gregg Allman vocal and vehicle. The last cut Sweet Mama is not one of their best but 6 out of 7 cuts are outstanding. Listen to this once all the way through and you will find this to be top shelf Allmans.

5 out of 5 stars Great hidden gem.......2005-11-20

When I found this CD, at a truck stop midway between kansas city and topeka, one could say it was destiny. No sleep, still a ways to go -Denver Destination-, this one got me through. I don't know how many times I listened to High Falls, and win, lose or draw, Lousianna Lou....great stuff...of course I think you can tell Betts and Gregg Allman were starting the well known coke phase around this time, cause you can hear that coke nose singing coming through on the tracks -everyone sounding like they had colds. But High Falls, man the keyboard solo and the guitar solo to follow....if you are ever looking to get through some tough, long highway miles, throw this CD in, and navigate to high falls and turn that up...if ever there was a soundtrack to miles and miles of corn fields or absolutely barren land, this is the one....I gave it 5 for the 2-3 great tracks on here. They make up for the lack of inspiration contained in the rest, but it is the last great Allman Brothers Album!!!! High Falls is a lot better than that huge Mountain Jam...and is as adictive as a song can be....although beware, it's hard to not want to get down and boogie behind the wheel to High Falls. And keep an eye on the speedometer, one tends to put the pedal to the metal midway through the keyboard solo.

2 out of 5 stars Pras Could Try Later.......2007-04-11

I Bought the album feeling Pras deserved a couple bucks since he really hasn't been active in the industry for a couple years. I was even a little hyped up when I grabbed it hopeing for some ole skwel Fugees type of joints or something.

To be blunt, the album is below average especially for the artists who collaborated.

A few beats are decent like "Friend or Foe" "One Monkey Don't Stop the Show" & "Angels Song", but the rest I couldn't listen to.

Unfortunatly Pras is a rapper. Great tone of voice, but poor lyrics.
You can tell the writting and vocal production was rushed throughout the album.

I was disappointed. But the 3 beats I feel give hope. He should work on another album to redeem this unorganized album.

1 out of 5 stars Pras Must Know Some Powerful People (1 Star).......2006-02-18

You know what, I'm not even gonna make my case for why this album sucks so bad. I'll post a few verses, let you see for yourself, and let you be the judge.

    1) Win Lose or Draw: "You went from being a friend or foe//a friend or threat//from big green on you like that dude from Shrek..."

    2) Haven't Found: "Spit these bars 'cause in the hood I'm the instrument//been around the world I stepped on seven continents//20 millions later, I settled the score//they got money for war but can't feed the poor..."

    3) Mr. Martin feat. Akon: "Everytime I breathe, I feel like they killin' me//it's seems death is the only way to my destiny//you see crazy's the boy that goes against my wrath//I'm like Moses when I strike down my staff//see my wordplay is like arts & crafts//and my gunplay will blast any babylon in my path..."

As you can see, half of his rhymes make absolutely no sense. And the rhymes that do make sense are absolutely terrible. Not only has he shown no lyrical improvement, but Pras may actually be getting worse. He was never that great to begin with, but come on. He has to be good friends with some powerful label execs in order to have this album released to the public. Whoever signed off on this should be fired.

The only thing this album is good for is a good laugh. Just check out "Party's Ova", "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show", and "Mr. Martin" to see for yourself. Aside from a few laughs, this album is good for very little else. If you smoke, you could probably break weed up on this CD. That's about all the useful purposes I can think of for this album.

Win Lose Or Draw is definitely a certified drink coaster. The lyrics are terrible, the beats are weak, and Pras simply does not know how to make good music. Not only can I not recommend buying this album, I recommend that you don't even download it. It would be a complete waste of time and hard drive space. And if anyone tries to give this to you for free, they aren't your friend. It's THAT bad. I seriously question the hearing and musical taste of anyone giving this more than 2 stars. I feel like I just wasted 59 minutes of my life. Two thumbs WAY down.

Standout Tracks: Don't kid yourself.....there are NONE.

1 out of 5 stars 1-1/2 stars -- It shouldn't even be possible for music to be this wack.......2005-12-24

Now, Pras Michel couldn't rap at all when he and the Fugees were known as Tranzlator Crew and they delivered Blunted On Reality (remember his verse in the otherwise dope "Nappy Heads"?). He had improved a little by the time The Score came out, but he still didn't have the skills to venture out on his own; maybe he did it because Lauryn Hill and Wyclef did the same thing (although only their first two respective albums were any good). Pras DID do a good job with the SONG "Ghetto Supastar", but I don't know anyone that picked up the album, or THIS album, Win Lose or Draw, which is just crap.

One main problem with this album is that Pras is calling out to wack emcees. Now, Pras is hardly the authority on washed-up rappers, which is pretty obvious by the failed party joint "Party's Ova". And the album's first song, the title track, is so bad that I didn't even want to listen to the rest of the album (not to mention that it doesn't make any sense).

Another song that doesn't make sense is "One Monkey Don't Stop the Show". And the lead single "Haven't Found" (which interpolates U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For") is confusing because the chorus is about a troubled relationship while the verses are condemning war. Speaking of that, anti-war songs also fall flat, like "For Love", "Angels Sing" and "Mr. Martin". The latter two songs feature Wyclef and Akon, respectively, and they do nothing except bring the songs down.

The same can be said for the necessary song for the kiddies, "How It Feels", and unsurprisingly, the kids can't sing. Another skippable joint is the obligatory reggae crossover, "Dance Hall" (with Sean Paul and Spragga Benz), but it's also odd in that the chorus says you "can't test Spragga, Pras, Roundhead and Sean P". Who the hell is Roundhead?

Pras also falls when he makes songs for the ladies. "Mistakes" (which...nah, that's too easy) and "Dreamin'" are nothing special, but the latter is strange because guest vocalist Sharli McQueen sings the chorus: "See, I'm better off without you girl/Because the things you do I just don't approve." Why is a WOMAN singing that?

And you'd be better off not listening to this album. In fact, I'd even listen to any post-Carnival Wyclef Jean album before I listened to THIS again. This album came out in August and you see this is only the fourth review for it. It's because nobody cares about this album, and there's no reason TO care.

2 out of 5 stars Win, Lose, Or Draw? I'm Just Surprised I Was Able To Listen To This All The Way Through!.......2005-10-02

I actually got through the entire cd, although I almost wish I hadn't! I don't know what it is about Pras and solo albums, but it's almost like he is lost without his Fugee counterparts on the tracks to save him. When there isn't someone there to guide him as far as his lyrics are concerned, he just goes off the deep end. That was his main problem with Ghetto Superstar, his debut solo album from 1998 on Ruffhouse Records. The only thing worth having from that album was the bonus disc with exclusive and unreleased Wyclef Jean tracks! This time around, he gets a little help in the production department which makes his album at least listenable. But Win, Lose, or Draw is nowhere near the success he wishes to have on his own.

The title track starts the album off okay with some stellar production, but then Pras opens his mouth and ruins it to the point where it doesn't matter how good the beat is. The same can be said about a bunch of songs on the album. "Dreamin" and "One Monkey Don't Stop The Show" both incorporate some decent R&B background singing, but then the kindergarten raps that plagues Pras' thought processes comes out again. This repeats again on "For Love" where the R&B singer does a better job than Pras! He desperately tries his hand at being compassionate on the song "Mistakes" where he pleas for a woman to give him another chance at love.

Even Wyclef Jean, who hasn't had a hit in years, brings little to the song "Angels Sing." But nothing gets as bad as "Mr. Martin," which features both the uninspired rapping of Pras alongside the tiresome singing of Akon all on one song! The calypso sounding "Party's Ova" sounds robotic when Pras proclaims "Time to turn off the lights....Party Is Over." And things go from bad to worst with "Haven't Found," where Pras borrow's the hook from U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." He does more borrowing on "Friend A' Foe" when he uses elements from Whodini's "Friends" and "Ghetto Politics" where he uses BDP's lyric "Criminal minded, you've been blinded" to start off this horrible track. He even goes as far as pulling a chorus of kids into the mix for the song "How It Feels," an obviously overused tactic that many others have utilized fruitlessly.

When the Fugees supposedly drop their reunion album in December '05, hopefully everybody will have forgotten about all the failed attempts of solo success from Pras as well as Wyclef's more recent works and Lauryn's Unplugged disc. Win, Lose, or Draw? When you compare Ghetto Superstar to this album, it's like comparing an 'F' to barely passing! Let's just say Pras didn't lose entirely with this album and leave it at that...because you certainly didn't win any brownie points from Fugee fans or the record label!

5 out of 5 stars Your right, this review does deserve a big D---.......2005-08-24

I also heard the album. Too bad it has not been advertized. This is the best album I've heard this year. After reading all those negatives reviews on Pras, I feel like there is a whole bunch of haters out there that are trying to bring him down because they're jealous of the fact that he's an amazing rapper and came out with a great album. With tracks such as Dancehall, Light my fire, Haven't Found, Friend a Foe, Party's Ova, Ghetto Politics, For Love and Win Lose or Draw, any Fugee or let's say good music fans will love this one. Congratulations Pras!!! In case anyone wonders if the album is a Win, Lose or a Draw,... I'd personally call it a big WIN!

2 out of 5 stars We all lost listening to this album!.......2007-07-17

Just when you think Pras couldnt get any worse. BAM! He drops this album. Pras has not only gotten worse lyrically but he has the personality of a corpse. Still! The only songs I could tolerate from him was Ghetto Supastar featuring the late ODB and Avenues featuring Ky-mani Marley(I dont even know why I like the song myself so dont ask). The Good: No good tracks on here just some songs with decent production like Win Lose Or Draw, Friend A Foe and Ghetto Politics. The songs stink lyrically so lets go to the next category. The Bad: The title track is bland and Dance Hall featuring Sean Paul and Spragga Benz would clear the most accepting of dance floors. Light My Fire not only suffers from a weak beat but also a nonsensical hook and wack performance by Pras himself. Dreamin is his vapid song for the ladies and why is a girl singing a hook like that? /See Im better off with you girl because/ the things you do I just dont approve/(?????!!!??). Not only does Pras fumble with the flow but he also bites rhymes and phrases from 2pac on Friend A Foe, Win Lose Or Draw etc. Ghetto Politics not only suffers because of Pras but it also suffers because of his weak homeboys who in all honesty rap better than than him and they are at their worst. How It Feels is another offence that has kids singing offbeat in the chorus. The Ugly: Wyclef busts the worst verse of his rap career on Angels Sing and it was still better than Pras's verses! HOW INSANE IS THAT?
as for the worst songs on the album its a tie between Havent Found(dreadful rendition),Mr Martin featuring Akon(the beat is so bad it makes me chuckle just like the beat for Angels Sing) and One Monkey Dont Stop The Show(humorously bad). Party's Ova jacks the beat from Wyclef's Life In New York(also done in creole on his last album) as Pras spits booty lyrics/ya n***** bone thugs man skull and bones/(HUH?)and a booty hook to match /you used to be hot/but now youre just pimping in a parking lot/(It should be a crime to be so corny). Dishonorable Mentions: For Love and Mistakes.
Bottom Line: While Pras's Win Lose Or Draw is not the worst release of 2005(D4L's Down4Life has that honor)its easily one of the worst rap releases of 2005. Pras further proves that he cant carry a full album by himself with this one. Why he's still around is a mind-boggling thing to figure out. All I know is that you have to question the sanity of anybody who can say that this album jams with a straight face.
