Yet Another Funkadelic Best.......2006-09-15

This was too hot to handle if you were not into funk but the ever danceable "One Nation" made you get up. It was a National anthem for "us folks" and gave us some pride in knowing that we are "One Nation Under A Groove" and we had a voice. We had "Lift Every Voice " and now we got "One Nation" what more can you ask for. You have a wonderfully written dance song with the team of george Clinton, Gary Shider and the multi-talented Walter "Junie" Morrisson. "Grooveallegience" is another well done song withe the bass of Rodney "Skeet" Curtis..Another revamp of the funk mob but not noticeable only great music. The are puffing out their chests and saying "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?"--The "Promental............enemasquad" was a hilarious treat and I am glad that they put the instumental on the album as it is a good music track--They just lacked the backing vocal tracks that was on "Promental". "Maggot Brain' the live version was very good Eddie or Mike I don't remember but excellent all of the same. This was the year for the Parliament/Funkadelic as they put a flag on the earth and then went underwater---I said it before, and I'll say it again, what a funk mob!!!

This is one of the most important albums for this group. Though many are aware of the title track,( One Nation Under a Groove" THE Funk Anthem) much of the rest of the album has been over looked. The strong blues background, mixed with bits of reggage and soul make this not only a funky dance album, but also a great album to relax to. It it not to be missed.

there's plenty of stuff to groove to on this album. it's an awesome blend of funk, disco, rock, reggae, jazz, and messages about unity. if you can get past the outer space stuff, poo humor, and the "bonus EP", you're in for a real treat. get the album Maggot Brain, too. it'll blow your mind.

There are some many good funkadelic records I happen to own this on vinyl and is an essential in any record/cd collection. If you are thinking about buying this get it on vinyl instead. If you don't have a record player then invest sucka.

Pledge Allegiance to the Funk!.......2005-12-20

Each and every member of Funkadelic HAD to have been high as a kite to come up with the songs on this album. Aside from that, this album showcases some really great musicians. I enjoy listening to it every time.

I've only had this for about a month, and it has already become one of my favorites! Very relaxing, without being boring. That is something that most mellow music can not pull off -

Before I bought it, I expected all of the lyrics to be in French. Much to my surprise, no French words were on the album. This is not a bad thing, but this is something that wanna-be listeners should be aware of.

This is a CD without a bad track. It sounds well-made, classy, carefully chosen, etc. It's 2006 and it feels newer still with breathes of fresh starlit-lively dreamy Paris cityscape groove. It has a sort of a dance-oriented, upmood Airy accent but differently French too (maybe a bit more mainstreamably-listenable).

I bought this CD expecting the coolest, smoothest, sweetest EuroTrash grooves....I wasn't disappointed in the least...It's a sexy, funky, deep-house buzzzzzzzzz....I adore this CD especially when I am looking for something laidback and seductive.....The most awesome track on this album is "Mantis" by Versus.....

I bought this album because of the album description. I think that this information and the review by Urb magazine clearly states what this album is all about.

I was not at all shocked when I received the CD. The music is clean and very funky with some live elements; and, it demonstrates the fusion of electronica, jazz, funk and trip- hop. These artists are indeed unique. In fact, I found this album to be a refreshing change of pace from many of the predictable electronica albums flooding the market these days.
I also have purchased St Germain's tourist and did not do so to hear French vocalists.

However, Paris Under a Groove does have some live vocals and some nice vocal sampling in English and French. All and all, the CD is a great entry point for anyone interested in learning about new French electronica and its various formats.

San Francisco Under a Groove is the second installment in the "Under a Groove," series. This series focuses on uncovering new electronica from hotspots around the globe. The concept was created after a trip to Paris in 2001. There we came across some French artists who fused electronica with funk and jazz. The resulting album, Paris Under a Groove received some critical buzz. We decided next to begin a San Francisco project, and in the process found some great talent. The SF sound has a more mellow side compared with New York and Chicago. In capturing that vibe, the album, focuses in on a funk/jazz electronica sound, deep basslines and sultry vocals. Perfect for kicking off any cocktail hour. The album's back side includes soulful breakbeat and deep house tracks played in Soma clubs.

Featuring unreleased tracks from Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw, a deep house remix of Goapele's hit track "Closer," and introducing, Andre Castano, Superbacana, Irina Mikhailova & Mr Untel, Triangle Orchestra, Will Felt, Tetris, Movido, and Karmacoda. im not someone who hosts cocktail parties, but I am beginning to love the Lounge/House/downtempo genre. Listening to this, I imagine myself in a lounge bar, the lights dimly lit with martinis everywhere. You dont have to have cocktail parties to enjoy this kind of music. I slip this disc in when I get home from a long day at work. it seriously helps me relax!

Fans of electronica, jazz, deep house, and just plain good music will love this one. I also bought the special edition on itunes because it has some extra tracks not included here.

I originally purchased this album as a birthday gift for a friend. Well, that friend ended up with some scented candles. I just had to keep this little gem for myself. The first time I slipped SF Under a Groove into my stereo, I was mesmerized.

I love the deep-house and jazz undertones running through each song. And my very favorite (I hit repeat and listen to it about a million times a day,) is Spontaneous Love by Maximillian. It's the Rev. Cecil Williams put to a powerful mix of echoes and rhythmic sounds.

This album is the best gift I've ever didn't give to someone else.

Solid Compilation of San Francisco Artists.......2005-12-07

I bought this album on a whim, and was very pleasantly surprised. It starts off pretty chill, with great melodies, sultry vocals, and a good deal of diversity from the widening electronica genre.

I've listened to the album in my car on the way to work, and just hanging out with friends over a couple of drinks at home. It's a good mix, and makes for a great addition to my music collection.

Soul-funk.......2006-04-09

There is nothing here as outrageously avant-garde or ebullient as Parliament's spectacular song Flashlight and in general, this album's subdued tone makes it more soul-funk than rock-funk. Besides the title track on the one nation getting down just for the funk of it, I really love Groovallegiance with its lovely harmonies, interweaving voices, hypnotic melody and the subtle way it insinuates itself into the brain-grooves: "Let me take you by the hand/ And spread the funk across the land/ It's not hard to understand/ Heading for the master plan/ Pledge a groovallegiance to the funk/ The United Funk of Funkadelica/ Oh yea-hoo/ Dey do do do da funk/ Do da funk-de ee de dee!" I love the whole P-funk culture and especially Clinton's playful and witty socio political commentary. Seeing this band, or preferably the whole Parliafunkadelicment-thang live, must have been an unforgettable experience!

One hell of an album but then again most funkadelic albums are. This is probably one of the most sampled albums of all time. From De la Soul to Ice-T they've all sampled this!!! Well worth buying.

I love the whole P-funk culture and especially Clinton's playful and witty socio-political comment. Absolutely essential P-Funk. The best Parliament album Funkadelic ever made! (Or the best Funkadelic album Parliament never made) Highlights are the title-track, Groovealliagence and Cholly, it doesn't get more funky than that. I still prefer the original Maggot Brain though.

One of the Best of It's Kind.......2001-07-10

Ironiacally, when this first came out I was not a G/C fan. I called him "Fool Master George" and preferred the likes of Blue Magic, Delfonics, etc. But since most of what passes for R&B (aside from India Arie and a few others) since them sounds so much worse, I can appreciate this better today. Unortunately, the title cut is not the long version of the song that so hard to find, but it has it's moments. The "Doo Doo Chasers", with it's (defecation) talking preacher enticing his audiece to repeat his nonsense in call and reposnse, is clearly a spoof of Jesse Jackson, but "Magggot Brain" would make James Marshall Hendrix (Jimi to you) smile from his grave.

Swing-Down Sweet Chariot Stop and Let them Ride!.......2003-08-07

This CD is the Bomb! The band's cover of P-Funk is awesome and gives one the feeling of a P-Funk Live Concert albeit in the studio. If you have ever seen or heard the "Live" version of MotherShip Connection (Star-Child) you will understand. The arrangements of the songs are played almost true to the original production release except with a twist or additional slice of improv as if it were live. I have heard other's remake P-Funk cuts into a Jazzy rendition (including George Duke/Stanley Clarke, Karl Denson, etc), however this is the best and "Un-Cut" effort to date. You cannot get on the Mother Ship without this CD!

Nice Surprise.......2003-05-27

Being a hardcore Funkateer I was skeptical about someone elses interpretation of some of the best songs that P-FUNK ever made. This CD had a light, jazzy feel to it. It's something that should be played on a Sunday morning while reading the paper. While the turntable stuff did nothing for me, the instruments, especially the sax and bass, were tight. It is a great tribute to George Clinton and P-Funk when players like Clyde Stubblefield and Phil Upchurch join forces to remake their music.
The best tracks are One Nation Under A Groove and Chocolate City. Again, the best way to describe it is (jazzy)funk. The style in which the sax is played helps to give it a light feeling. For all the devoted clones out there, you really should add this one to your collection.

It's About Time.......2004-04-28

This Collection puts every WB album recorded from 1976-1981(with the exception of "Who's a Funkadelic") onto a 3 CD collection. Buying this keeps you from having to buy "Hardcore Jollies", "One Nation Under a Groove", "Uncle Jam Wants You", and "Electric Spanking War Babies" separate. It would be nice if Westbound Records could do the same for the earlier hits. The best they got now is the Motor City Madness: The Ultimate Collection. I strongly recommend buying both CD's. Check out my review for that one.

Make no mistake about it - Funkadelic's "One Nation Under a Groove" is among the best funk discs ever recorded. I contains elements of the complex arrangements that made George, Bootsy and Bernie famous among today's hip-hop samplers (One Nation, Cholly, etc.). But, ONUAG adds that rock edge that make Funkadelic FUNKADELIC (Lunkmeataphobia, Maggot Brain, etc.). The Funkadelic sound is best summarized (lyrically and musically) on "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!"

Ok, why do you spend the extra coin on this Japanese import? There are three VERY important reasons:

1. This CD is mastered using 20-bit sampling which creates a smoother more rich sound as compared to the standard 16-bit recording available in the US. I have both CDs and the Japanese version is noticably cleaner, louder, and smoother.

2. The 12" Version of "One Nation Under A Groove" is included. This 16+ minute track is actually the A and B side of the original 12" vinyl issue from 1977. The first 11 minutes is the remix that has been reissued on vinyl but is impossible to find on CD. The last 5 minutes is the B-side which features a slamming extended guitar solo by Mike Hampton - a must have for every collector.

3. The packaging includes full size liner notes from the original LP. The US CD only reprints portions of the original LP art. Again, a must for the true funk fan.

Get this while you can, burn a copy, and put this one away. It may pay for itself in the future.
