Customer Reviews:
Calling Paula Abdul Fans.......2007-07-05
I found this cd to be exactly what I was looking for. I was in the mood to hear some Paula Abdul and was pleasantly surprised to hear all my favorite songs from her. If you are a Paula fan and you want to hear the perfect selection of her best songs, this is the cd for you.
Fantastic collection ;->.......2007-06-21
This is so great to have all the songs of Paula's that we love, on one cd. Sure, it's similar to her last Greatest Hits (yes, cover too), but this has Bend Time Back Around on it which the other didn't. It has all of my favourites like Forever Your Girl, Crazy Cool, If I Were Your Girl and Blowing Kisses In The Wind.
I really wish she'd bring out new material, but for now this will do I guess. Loving her since the beginning, this is a treat to have all these songs in the one place. I still love her music and can't stop playing this all the time. A MUST for all her fans.
Stop screwing with Vibeology!.......2007-06-12
This is by far a better collection than the previous greatest hits package. The non-single tracks here are better too. I suppose Virgin Records keeps including the insanely edited "Vibeology" video version for the sake of time? No Paula Abdul fan wants to hear the song chopped almost in half. And any non-Paula fan certainly isn't "getting" how great the song is by listening to it on this CD. Still, if you're a fan of Paula or of late '80s/early '90s top 40, this is a must-have.
Straight Up! Is Right..........2007-06-06
If you don't have one or the other of her greatest hits releases, get this one. Not only are there more songs and less filler, but the sound quality is better. It looks like in the seven years between greatest hits packages, some sonic wizardry has happened.
Paula has just never sounder better. I figure this release is to capitalize on her American Idol role, and smart of her to do so, but there is more here for the dollar as well. SO sell your old one and give this version a spin. I think if you have the least interest in her, you and your toes will be happy.
What the heck?????.......2007-05-15
I don't understand why they had to come out with another Paula Abdul's greatest hits album. I know it's been about 7 years from her other greatest hits album, but there is nothing special about the new one. It pretty much has the same songs and almost has the same cover. I mean she is wearing the same outfit. I really love Paula Abdul's songs so I sticking with her first greatest hits album. Why should we waste money on a greatest hits album that has one or two more new songs when we can stick with the orginal greatest hits album.
I just want to say that the one star is not because of Paula Abdul, it is because they had to come out with another greatest hits album with the almost the same cover and her wearing the same outfit.

Still lives on.......2007-05-23
I was 10 years old when I bought this and it was the first new album that I had ever owned. I wanted it because of "Baby Blue" and "Day After Day" just like everyone else but I fell in love with the rest of the songs immediately. They are just as fresh today as they were the day I peeled the cellophane off of the album 35 years ago.
Growing up a Beatles freak I was not disappointed because you can really hear that Beatles influence through out the album. "Sometimes" and "I'd Die Babe" have a great Rubber Soul sound to them and "Perfection" is just a great song. Hell, they are all very good!
This is such a great mix of song writing and influances coming together to record a timeless album.
Every time I see one of those top 100-album lists I cannot believe how after this one is over looked.
A true classic and a must have for your collection.
The early days bite back.......2007-05-08
This holds very special significance for me, being one of the very first albums I ever owned, well, on permanent loan to me by a boyfriend I last saw on my 16th birthday. I used to lie on the floor and cry to Baby Blue and the intensity and hard knocks these guys experienced within just a few years adds to the precious worth it holds for me. We all suffered in our separate ways. It's so heart-wrenching even today and as with so many of my old favourites it still has the kick it always did, they present this as though every line comes from the very deepest places in their hearts, and for this I am ever so grateful.
Because of the beatles.......2007-03-20
Since I have a new beatles wave (every 2 years) my quest for beatle relatives goes further. Not that you can compare Badfinger with the fab, but you can hear the big influence. This is their third record on apple, the prestige label of the fab. Enough over the fab. About Badfinger. This is a real good steady album with some memorable songs. It's often recalled as a copy of No Dice, their previous album, but I won't agree with that. It's a forgotten classic. But isn't all of badfingers history forgotten. Two members commited suicide because they never got the first place. They were always second best and I don't agree with that. They were a band aparte with some real pop classics on their CV
The Name of the Game .......2007-02-27
Worth the price of admission for the heartbreaking song by ...(when you consider what happened in 2 years for him)...Pete Ham, Name of the Game.
Take it all, Baby blue are just 2 of the other highlights to this fine album. The only confusion are the bonus tracks, which are an earlier (rejected by apple) version of the album. Was apple out of their minds?
Haunting and timeless..........2006-10-21
A masterpiece, timeless even at inception. And considering the history of Badfinger, it's even more precious; listening to it transports me to a time and place like no other music.
Song after song, expertly-crafted, gorgeous power pop at its finest. Yet as a total work, it is so much more...there always was this odd, old-soul patina about it, like a dream in an abandoned ballroom with the faint, shimmery strains of some orchestra long past..a tinge of almost prescient sadness for what would soon befall the band.
Whenever I hear "The Name of the Game", it makes me cry. Every time. I am among those who know this is a crown jewel of its genre. Pete, Tommy, and now Mike...you left too soon, never realizing how you touched us all. Thank you for what you left behind.

...With A Twist!.......2003-01-04
This is Bob James' third trio release. It features him with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade. Starting off, we get an unusual re-working of one of Bob's classic tunes, "Night Crawler" (originally on HEADS). "Ambrosia" is a perky tune which in one section reminds one of Michel Legrand's "Little Boy Lost". "James" is his treatment of Pat Metheny's tribute to James Taylor. "The Jody Grind" is a danceable tune by Horace Silver, featuring an unusual solo from Bob. Next comes a broody standard "Lost April". Bob's enigmatic "Three Mice Blind" with it's scary intro is my personal favorite. "Hockney" is a funky number, possibly in tribute to the artist of that name. "Shooting Stars" is a slow-swinging tune. We close with Bob's version of the Denny Zeitlin classic, "Quiet Now". STRAIGHT UP is a masterful effort from one of jazz's great keyboars masters!
At last the jazz soul of Bob James re-emerges.......2002-07-31
This is quite a treasure from the King of highly produced Quiet Storm fusion-jazz pop/muzak/funk. Even at his most shamelessly commercial, Bob James' keyboard solos have been consistently interesting. That aspect is evident here, in a very pretty straightahead and sensitively performed trio album that, I dare say, evokes Bill Evans at times. Nice.
Beautiful music.......2000-01-31
This is an amazing CD. It is the perfect CD for just sitting and listening to. I have a collection of CDs which go into random play mode for when I just want to sit and read a book while listening to music. This CD is on the top.

music in the elevator on the way to a broadway play about li.......2003-05-07
Gimmie some blues. This is not the best blues album ever made.
Little charlie's guitar is good but does not sizzle. Rick Estrins vocals are smooth and slick like that crazy pompedor he sports.Dobie Strange on drums - my girlfriend likes his name and I'm sure dobie would like my girlfriend- is great. Ronnie James Weber on bass makes the album. It's whitebread and processed cheese blues. It's the blues you'll gladly lend to a friend. If andrew lyodd webber made a play about Charlie Paxton
this is the sound you would hear on the elevator to the balcony.
Swinging the Blues.......2000-10-11
First and foremost, this is great party music: Almost every track is in the "jump blues" style, upbeat and eminently danceable, with some traces of jazz guitar that add to the fun. Superb ensemble playing throughout, humorous lyrics, and the band's obvious enjoyment make this stand above the rest of the (now popular) jump/swing blues bands.
Vocals are easy on the ears and unpretentious, mostly performed in a tongue-in-cheek style (although track two's humor is lost on me). The band makes no pretense of recreating any particular blues genre. The guitar can be blisteringcan at times (tracks 1, "I Could Deal With It," and 3, I'm Just Lucky That Way"), making the group sound bigger than it is. Track 4, "Turn My Back on You," contains some tasty tenor saxophone, with some hints of jazz, yet never sounds like the generic sax we hear these days on commercials and late-night shows. In fact, esp. on Track 4, the whole group has a jazz sensibility, even the "talk trash" vocals are articulated in a scat-like way.
The band slows down somewhat on the second side. Track 8 is good, but the B.B. King style licks, well, they ain't B.B. King! There's an excellent harp solo, with chording that recalls Sonny Boy Williamson on the Yardbirds album. Track 10, "Gerontology," jumps into full swing again, while "Playboy Blues" features an organ, a washboard-sounding bass, and lots of jazz/swing guitar, and a drummer who knows just how long to go with a solo. Finally "My Way or the Highway" (track 7), an instrumental, is a spirited blues with a swing perspective. The overdubbing of the heavily electrified harp will get you moving. Very highly recommended; try their other CDs as well.
One of the greatest blues albums of all time.......1999-02-04
Little Charlie and the nightcats are one of the finest blues bands of all time. Rick Estrin is one of the greatest harp players of all time and little charlie is the most unique guitar players in the world.

Dance to the music.......2004-04-03
This wonderful collection of some of Africa's greatest straight ahead jazz players features some very cool tunes covering quite a wide-ranging stylistic soundscape. There's a little Afro-modal Shorter-ish hard bop ("Owed to Bishop"), a bit of McCoy Tyner-styled post bop ("Naivasha"), some great Township jazz ("Celebrate Mzansi"), a dollop of King Sunny Ade juju ("Langery"), Hugh Masekela meets "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" ("Tugela Rail"), Afro-Caribbean ("Dee Mwa Wee"), more Masekela stylings, updated ("Imbali"), and even an Afro-samba ("Shawn's Uhadi Samba")
A wild, untethered joy suffuses these songs, pure blitheness of spirit, with sometimes just a thin vein of sorrow or melancholy sneaking through.
My favorite numbers include "Imbali," by the great pianist Bheki Mseleku (Where's he been hiding out for the past decade, after a handful of fine discs in the early 90s?), music of the very highest standard with some killer sax work by Ezra Ngcukana and the mellow flugel horn of Feya Faku; "Shawn's Uhadi Samba," a simple, mesmeric tune with gorgeous horn harmonies and smart piano vamps by Hotep Idris Galeta; the driving, get-under-your-skin modality of "Owed to Bishop" by trumpeter Marcus Wyatt; and the dancing glee of "Celebrate Mzansi" (I'm a sucker for that Township stuff). But it's all operating on a very high level. And despite the quite amazing diversity of styles, it all hangs together. That's because, I think, it's not like a normal anthology. It's more like selections drawn from a large extended family of music makers, with many of the players popping up on each other's tunes.
Entirely enjoyable and certainly worth picking up.

Product Description
Designed with the busy schedules of teachers in mind, this powerful spoken word CD is 28 minutes of straight-forward, life changing affirmations over beautifully uplifting music. How do you use the CD? It should be listened to every workday, as part of a routine, most likely while the listener does other things. It can be used as you get dressed, as you drive to work, or listened to in your classroom before students arrive. It does not take away time from your day, but enrich the time you would normally spend on other things. I (Carrie A. Chapman) am still a classroom teacher and am enjoying my work more every day thanks to the creation of this CD. I hope you will find it equally inspirational for yourself, or the lucky individual for whom you are purchasing it.
Customer Reviews:
Interesting and Effective.......2005-08-12
I first heard about this product on a teacher chatboard. While I was initially skeptical, but I listened to the audio samples and decided to give it a try. I teach at a year round school, and even with track breaks, need inspiration to get through the summer months. I have had it for a few months and really feel a difference in my outlook throughout the day. One funny (but good) thing: there is an affirmation about staying organized, and it must have gone straight to my subconscious because my typically messy desk and work spaces have become much cleaner! I am so thankful and suprised for this added benefit!
Positively Refreshing!.......2005-01-28
I think this CD is a great idea! I am a parent who has noticed several teachers looking drained and overworked. I bought this CD to give to the teachers of my children. I feel better sending my children to school knowing they are being taught by teachers who are positive and refreshed. This CD isn't just a gift for the teacher, but a gift for the whole class!
Positively empowering!.......2005-01-28
This is a great Cd to listen to on the way to work. It is relaxing and sets up such a positive start to the busy day. I am not a teacher but it empowers me to get on with what I love to do and gives meaning to feeling positive about life. I am giving this Cd to teachers that I work with in hopes that they will remain happy and feel good about what they do when there is so much stress in their day. Thank you Miss Chapman!
An Inspiration to all!.......2005-01-27
What an inspiring idea! This is great CD for everyone , not just for teachers. The thoughts portrayed on the CD are uplifting, energizing, and yes are definately Fired up! As a teacher myself, it reminds me of why I do what I am doing! We all need a wake up call at some point, and this will do the trick! The music adds a wonderful, soothing touch!
Out of this WORLD!! Not just for Teachers.......2005-01-26
What a wonderful idea this was! Not only teachers can use this. We all, who work in the public in some sort, need these affirmations daily. What an excellent way to begin your day, get yourself ready for all that is ahead. I can't wait to see what Miss Chapman does next, INCREDIBLE. I plan to give this as a gift to ALL my teacher and would be teacher friends.

Album Description
Atmospheric indie rock a la The Appleseed Cast. Soaring crescendos rise and dissipate into soothing, spacey lulls. Introspective lyrics call for repeated listens so as to fully appreciate all the album has to offer.

More Punch, Less Poetry.......2005-05-09
I came upon "Silent, Sober and Sound" completely by accident, and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I instanly fell in love with the album's spacey lulls and soaring crescendos, and the way the two were so seamlessly blended together. When I saw that Outsmarting Simon had a new album on the way, I nearly pissed my pants in excitement. But, I've had the disc for a week now, and I have to say...where Silent, Sober and Sound was INCREDIBLE, Stand Up Straight is merely GOOD. It seems like the band has gone for a more aggressive sound this time, which the disc's title hints at. The seamless weaving together of soft and load vocals and instrumentation, the introspective tangents throughout songs has been replaces by a soung that is much more aggressive and deliberate in it's delivery. Stand Up Straight just doesn't have the same haunting beauty as Silent, Sober and Sound. Still, the disc does have memorable moments, and "good" from this band is better than the best work of many other "emo" bands.
