Customer Reviews:
The Ray "King" Charles Trio.......2007-01-24
The first three tracks are simple trio blues recordings. "Kissa Me Baby" is a Charles Brown-type swing. Songs 5 thru 8 are the type of blues that can tear your heart out-- great stuff, simply done and strongly felt. "Late In The Evening" is of a similar mood, but with added reeds.
"On "I'll Do Anything But Work" Ray and swing band brighten measurably; doing a straight-on Nat Cole impression, Ray sings this one with a chuckle. For the last five songs of the set, Ray and trio are back with their fabulous rainy day music.
A touch of echo adds to the overall atmosphere. Sound quality is very good. As is typical of the ULTIMATE LEGENDS series, there are no liner notes- a minor limitation. Their RAY CHARLES album is one of the finest pure blues collections this reviewer has ever encountered. Highly recommended.
