A real listening pleasure.......2007-02-14

B'z has been dominating the Japanese music charts for nearly 20 years now. The Best Pleasure was released in March 1998 to commemorate 10 years of success. The songs selected are all chart-toppers, and a close listen reveals to us why this duo is one of Japan's most beloved.

The album begins with orchestral music but breaks into rock after about a minute, with Love Phantom. This is one of my favourite songs on the CD, but there is plenty more good music to listen to here! Other amazing tunes include the ballad Alone, Zero, Ai no mama ni Wagamama ni Boku wa Kimi dake wo Kizu tsukenai (yep that's one title), Bad Communication (special English version for this release), Calling, and a whole lot more!

Tak's guitars come through on this release even more than on the follow-up Best Treasure album. For an even fuller appreciation of these guys, though, check out any of their regular studio albums. These guys bring credibility to Japanese music!

Considering the significant influence B'z as a musical unit has enjoyed in Japan, it's rather surprising to realize that they are relatively unknown among J-Rock fans in the United States. Composed of Takahiro Matsumoto on guitar and Kohshi Inaba on vocals, for the most part they have skirted the visual kei scene (an unusual thing for such a prominent rock duo), and instead over the ten plus years of their joint career pursued the various nuances of jazz, blues, pop, acoustic melody, and classic rock. Sales of their individual singles over the years have produced an unprecedented number of Top Ten hits and #1 titles, and so it is a very convenient thing for fans that a notable collection of those songs has been gathered for this album: "B'z The Best 'Pleasure'"--a success in Japan that was later followed by "The Best 'Treasure'".

Those familiar with B'z work will enjoy such classics as "LOVE PHANTOM", "ZERO", and "Calling" amongst the fourteen diverse tracks on this disc, most a medley of Japanese and English that perfectly illuminate Tak's exceptional guitar skills as well as Kohshi's buttery voice. The CD unit itself is wrapped in "gold" and the flip-side of the jewel case showcases countless representations of Tak and Kohshi waiting in line outside a club to get into a B'z show (*cute*). Therefore the consumer is rewarded both musically as well as stylistically, as it's apparent that time was spent constructing both the external as well as the internal content of the album.

For those of you who are tired of confronting nothing but the commonly popular J-Rock bands; or who need a respite from the heavy glamour of the visual kei scene; or want to listen to a band that is not quite rock, and not quite pop, but a bit of everything in between--and very talented to boot--then you should do yourself a favor and pick up the "Pleasure" that B'z has put together for their fans. Because, honestly, it really is one.

the giga hit album in Japan.......2004-04-08

BZ is the most famouse unit by two men(vocal and guitar). And this album is the best album including singles for more than 10 years. In Japan, this album made giga hit(5million sales), by hearing this sale numbers, you will understand about their popularity in Japan.

I think that the truth why BZ is taken so much in Japan is the music stance, that is, generally BZ's genle is rock music mainly, but they mix a little pop music with rock. The harmony is greate and the unique sounds in Japan. And because I am a guitarist but poor, I tend to listen to guitar sounds mainly even if they are different genres. And the guitarist of BZ, Matsumoto's guitar sounds is very beautiful and emotional, when he play the guitar solo, the sounds go to the top.

You are unfamiliar to BZ, if you interested to Japanese pop, there will be the value that you listen to the CD.

Because the activity of BZ as the band is more than 10 years, when you listen to the best album, at the same time you can feel the transition of the music stance, that is, in the beginning of BZ the sound tended to be pop sounds used keyboads etc, but as time goes by the sound changed to rock sounds.
Bz had influenced to JPOP genre very much, if you listen to the best, that is, it is no exaggeration to say that you know JPOP history.

The best rock music!.......2004-01-27

B'z is the best rock band in Japan. This CD is the best collection of their songs. You can feel their soul even if you don't understand Japanese language well. The song, "LOVE PHANTOM" is my best. A prelude of this song is orchestra, but it gradually changes to rock beat. A vocalist, Kohshi Inaba's voice is wonderful. His voice has a wide register. His lyrics are soulful. A guitarist, Tak Matsumoto plays guitar very well. He's one of the best guitarists in the world.

B'z is the best rocker in not only Japan but also the planet. If you can't understand Japanese lyric, you'll feel the spirit and heart. You'll change your thought of Japanese rocks.

Great compilation.......2002-05-10

I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.

A disappointment.......2001-12-15

There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

Forget what they SAY.......2003-11-10

Many of these prior reviewers complain that the abundance of operas and vocals degrate this compilation. They don't know what they're talking about. These genres are what made Classical music popular in it's age. In that era the forum for showcasing "classical music" was operas! Hence why most of these works are lost in the shuffle. Most of us know Mozart and Beethoven's compositions by ear but there are so many other great composers that existed and these CD's will show you but a PIECE. But, fair warning, these CD's show only a small fraction of the whole movement (song). If you truly dig the genre you're in for a treat, investigate!

Most Aggravating Album in the World!.......2002-05-26

This CD is the first thing I ever returned to Amazon. It is an inferior product--selections cut off abruptly before the end, volume fades and returns in the middle of a cut...production values are pure schlock here. Maybe I should have expected as much from such a sophomoric title.

A fair introduction to Classical Music.......2001-03-03

I purchased this CD because I am new to Classical Music and thought this would be a good introduction CD. There is some wonderful music on this CD. The only problem I have with this CD is every other track is Opera of one form or another. As a new listener I found that after the Opera tracks I felt I had been yelled at and it was a distraction to the other music contained on the CD. I now know to hit the skip button on my CD player just about every other track. I only gave it 3 stars because I felt put off by the vocal tracks. I believe that when someone is new to Classical Music they do not think of Opera. If you don't mind hitting the skip button a lot or if you like Opera this CD is for you!

Great for Beginners.......2000-07-14

This is a nice recording for folks who don't know much about classical music, and would serve as a wonderful introduction. It covers centuries of great music in a very listener-friendly format. I am sure that I will use this CD in my music classroom. For a seasoned classical music lover, however, the CD proves a bit frustrating, including only segments of masterworks (not even the entire movement of the Holst). I bought the CD for a few recordings, which I truly enjoy and make the CD a worthwile purchase. But I found (and I think that most classical musicians will find) that I already had many of these works in their entirety.

This is a fine collection of classical songs for those that have little experience with classical music. Howver, I truly love it.

Glide is on here way too many times. Best hits is a better choice. The song "Living Without You ", is on The "Special Things", album. It has a solid red album jacket with "Pleasure" written in cursive across the front of it. I do not believe it is available on cd. Pleasure is surely one of the best bands of it's era.
