when I ordered the CD I was hoping to recapture the sound of the 70's as I recalled them. As it turns out, this CD didn't do that at all.

5 out of 5 stars Get up .......2005-09-13

I owned this vinyl ablum many many years ago and found it, as I remembered, uplifting. Inspired by the memory I purchased the CD. Now I remember what was so good about it, it is really a happening sound no matter how old you are or how long ago this was made. Timeless music that just gets you feeling so good is how I best describe this CD. Funny I have over 600 CDs and with my 5 stacker CD player this one always has a reserved spot for parties...ummm, no matter what other new great funky CDs are purchased, Jamiroquai or Incognito (Adventures in Black Sunshine takes 2nd reserved spot)this still one of my favourites. Beautiful music, beautiful woman.

5 out of 5 stars Under-rated Motown singer.......2005-04-13

Syreeta was once married to Stevie Wonder though the marriage only lasted a couple of years. The business relationship was more successful, with Syreeta sometimes singing backup on Stevie's records while Stevie helped Syreeta's career in other ways. Furthermore, they often wrote songs together, their most successful collaboration perhaps being Signed sealed delivered, an international hit for Stevie. As far as I know, they didn't record any duets together.

Syreeta recorded a single in 1968 using the name Rita Wright, the A-side being I can't give back the love I feel for you. The two sides of that single are the final two tracks on this album. Following the failure of that single (despite being well-promoted and getting plenty of American airplay), Syreeta abandoned the Rita abbreviation and reverted to her own first name, dropping her surname in the process.

Syreeta's biggest UK hit (and only American hit) was her duet with Billy Preston, With you I'm born again, which peaked at number two in the UK. It is extraordinary that Syreeta missed the American pop charts completely with her solo recordings. Four of them made the UK charts, the most successful being the number twelve hit, Your kiss is sweet. Spinning and spinning, Harmour love and It will come in time were only minor UK hits.

This collection includes all the aforementioned songs including her own version of Signed sealed delivered as well as a duet with Smokey Robinson (First time on a ferris wheel), a duet with G C Cameron (Let's make a deal) and several excellent solo tracks.

If you enjoy seventies Motown music, give Syreeta a listen.

5 out of 5 stars i love u syreeta............2004-10-30

a very nice overview of the beautiful syreeta's career.this beautiful cd has songs from her classic albums such as "syreeta"(1972)/"stevie wonder presents syreeta"(1974)/"rich love, poor love"(with g.c.cameron)(1977)/"one to one"(1977)/also includes the top five billboard single 'with you i'm born again'(a duet with billy preston)which is from the 1979 original motion picture soundtrack "fastbreak"/however,there are omissions and weaknesses from this compilation cd.it should have included 'win your love'which was written and produced by her then fiancee stevie wonder in 1970,and at least a few tracks with billy preston from the album "billy preston&syreeta"(1981)which features the beautiful'someone special'and the discoish beat of'searchin'/the one weakness with this cd is that some of the original tracks were edited from the original lp/album versions.perhaps this should have been a double cd set, therefore all of the songs listed could run in their original time lengths of which they were recorded.and if this were a double cd set,it would've included more unreleased material and rarities such as the stevie wonder written 'win your love'/therefore this would give the beautiful syreeta a near complete overview of her entire career.but motown itself needs 2 give the late beautiful singer more justice by releasing her remaining albums on cd.it would make her fans and myself very happy.syreeta was a very underappreciated and underrated vocalist who never got her due as a talented singer and songwriter and was pretty much under the musical radar.nonetheless, there is still material on this cd from her other albums such as '"syreeta"(1980)/"set my love in motion"(1981)/"the spell"(1983)which was her last full length studio album which was produced by jermaine jackson.this cd also features a duet with smokey robinson,'first time on a ferris wheel(love theme)'which is from the 1985 original motion picture soundtrack,"berry gordy's last dragon".i grew up with her voice along with stevie's as a child.what makes this collection so sweet is the inclusion of the very beautiful "something on my mind"/this collection should have included 2 more beautiful syreeta tracks:"cause we ended as lovers"(1974) and the very beautiful"blame it on the sun"(1980).the beautiful syreeta's sweetness lives....

5 out of 5 stars ANGELS LIVE FOREVER.......2004-07-29

It was so sad to hear about Syreeta's passing. "Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta" was recorded in 1974 and I was 11 years old when I heard my older sister spin this masterpiece. To this day, that album remains my favorite LP of all time. She truly had the voice of an angel. Along with the late great Minne Riperton and Deniece Williams they were "Wonderlove", Stevie's backup singers. Stevie knows talent!! Now we only have one angel still down here with us. Minne and Syreeta, R.I.P. I love your voices and I miss them dearly.

    Product Description

Syreeta began a personal and professional collaboration with Stevie Wonder. They worked together on Stevies Where Im Coming From; she made a memorable cameo on the hit If You Really Love Me. While furthering his independence with the landmark album, Music Of My Mind, Stevie also wrote with Syreeta and produced her solo debut album, originally available on the short-lived MoWest label. Their personal life spills into the tracks, especially on the playful I Love Every Little Thing About You, which was also re-cut by Stevie for his album; and To Know You Is To Love You, appearing here in a longer, unfaded version than what was on the original vinyl.. Rounding out the album are two covers, of The Beatles Shes Leaving Home, and Smokey Robinsons What Love Has Joined Together. The record was well-received critically but not commercially. Despite the setback, Syreeta and Stevie returned to the studio. Stevies second phase of his career had taken off, with the albums Talking Book, which featured several co-compositions with Syreeta, Innervisions and Fulfillingness First Finale. Their creative juices were flowing. The tracks were more energetic but no less autobiographical: Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta is a song-suite of their relationship, from love to marriage to breakup to friendship in 40 breathtaking minutes. Spinnin And Spinnin and Im Going Left were hits in the U.K. Guitarist Jeff Beck covered Cause Weve Ended As Lovers and, like Freddie Hubbard, did his best on his instrument to emulate Syreetas voice. Syreeta was reissued on CD nine years ago, in Japan only. Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta was available on a CD in the U.S. ten years ago. Neither was available for very long after that. Now, both albums can be had on one 78-minute disc, with beautiful packaging that includes never before seen photographs from the LP cover sessions and a revealing essay featuring quotes from Syreeta.

5 out of 5 stars syreeta's most sensual album.... .......2004-11-02

one to one is the beautiful syreeta's most sensual album yet.
released 3 years after her masterpiece with stevie,'stevie
wonder presents syreeta'this beautiful album has the musical
production of the gifted leon ware with co-production by
syreeta and curtis robertson jr.the album opens with the title
track a very upbeat but sensual warm romantic song with syreeta's soft sexy vocals singing about the pleasures of
physical love between 2 people.she sweetly sings:'i need,i need,i need!'... the next track "i don't know" is more upbeat
with stretching her vocals as far as they could go. the song
climaxes with a fast pace."rest yourself" a moderate paced
song with syreeta informing us 2 slowdown in life by taking it
easy 2 rest our minds and bodies."i too am waiting" a very
sweet sensual tender ballad of which the beginning of the song
sounds like the middle of a tv or movie theme.otherwise the
song is about physical longing 4 love.4 this song, syreeta's
sweet voice gives a nod 2 minnie riperton."tiki tiki donga"
is an upbeat spicy percussive number with it's soulful jazz
edges and beautiful ad-libs by syreeta."don't cry"is another
soulful tender slowjam of which syreeta tells us 2 be strong
and 2 hold on despite all the pain in life we may all experience."harmour love"is the only stevie wonder written track on the album.it was written in 1975.the song has an island
flavor 2 it with syreeta&stevie providing a beautiful duet.
the album ends with the title cut remixed beautifully.
"one to one"i say again is syreeta's most sensual album...

    4 out of 5 stars SENSUAL SYREETA.......2007-05-04

And to think that Berry Gordy wanted to replace Diana Ross with Syreeta Wright as the lead singer of the Supremes in 1970...
I actually own "Syreeta" and "Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta" on a double CD package, and I cannot discern which album is better...
Gems like "I Love Everything About You", "Black Maybe", "Keep Him Like He Is", a powerful cover of the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home" (all on SYREETA) and the soulful "I'm Going Left", the dreamy "Spinning and Spinning", and the haunting "Because We've Ended As Lovers" (from STEVIE WONDER PRESENTS...) all add up to 2 beautifully produced albums that were critically acclaimed (if not exactly scorchers on the LP charts), and are still being lauded by younger listeners like myself.

4 out of 5 stars The "Other " Classic Stevie Wonder Album.......2007-01-30

Yes, I know that this is Syreeta's album but I also believe that it is just as much or even MORE Stevie's album. He wrote the music for and produced every song on the album. And in regards to the best song on the disc, "Cause We've Ended Now As Lovers", he wrote music, lyrics, preformed AND produced it. So yes, this is a Stevie album. Because of the lost love theme it could have easily fit in between Talking Book and Innervisions. Because Stevie was in the accident that put him in a coma, the album was done afterwards while he was working on Fullfillingness First Finale. The album is done in 2 parts with the first 5 songs being you're regular pop/soul/funk fusion that Stevie was becoming known for. "Lovers" is the bridge and the turning point to the second half of the disc which centers on the effects of losing a love and the aftermath. And of course finally, the triumph of not only dealing with it but moving forward. Let's look at it song by song:
I'm Going Left - This is a good soulful song with a great chorus that's enhanced by Syreeta's bell-like voice. It basically refers to a person being lost until ther true love comes to lead them in the right direction. A good opener for a great album. Spinnin' and Spinnin' - This is a very good song agian about how love can and will change your life. Stevie does a guess vocal on this one and even though Syreeta's voice is nice, when paired with the relaxed and professional voice of Stevie, even his 2 or 3 lines in the song overshadow her. Still it's the next step of the disc getting better. Your Kiss Is Sweet - Musically this is on the same level as Spinnin' but done in a light hearted manner. Again, Stevie makes a guess appearance here. This time using his best Louis Armstrong voice to great affect. Come and Get This Stuff - This is soulful funk at it's best. The only song in this vain from this era that is better is Rufus' "Tell Me Something Good", which is also written by Stevie. The rythym and the vamp of the song is great and even Syreeta's slight voice sounds perfect in it. Heavy Day - The album makes a serious turn here with this thoughtfully deep song. With lyrics by Syreeta, this is an answer to Stevie's Superwoman from Music Of My Mind. "She's feeling alone, just like yesterday. Yeah the show is going on, her smile is in place" reads one line describing the pain Syreeta went through waiting for Stevie while his career was on the rise. The chorus reads, "She's been looking for a heavy day, a heavy day, a heavy day. A day when he's coming home to stay. 'Til then i will cry a million tears". When thinking of the lyrics for Superwoman and listening to this, it is both understandable and yet heartwrenching to imagine why these two separated. Syreeta uses another trick with the lyrics by using the words "she and "her in the first part of the song (trying to distance herself from the pain), then using "me" and "I" in the latter part (finally accepting her fate). Heavy Day is an excellent song that when really listened to should break anyones heart. 'Cause We've Ended Now As Lovers - THE masterpiece on this album that warrants the disc getting at least 4 stars (I would put 4 and a half if I could). Many artist, most notably Jeff Beck (whose instramental version shows how great the song is just as pure music, no lyrics), have done covers of it but to me there is only one definitive version and this is it. The mournful chord progression and the almost ethereal vocal harmonies pull at your heart. Of course the lyrics, though playful in thier own right are also mournful. After several lines explaining all of the fun the lovers had together in the past, the sad truth comes out in the last lyric before the refrain, "But that was more than years ago, and who will love me I don't know. It's sad for sure but true, it won't be you". In one line not only the pain but also the conquering strength of hope comes out and looks forward to a brighter future. "Lovers" is a masterpiece of songwriting that should be listened to over and over again. The song was not very popular for Syreeta and only other musicians could see how special it was at that time to do covers of it. Was it too close to home for most of us? Who knows. All I know is that you should listen to it now and make your own judgement. Just be ready for the goosebumps and have some tissue next to you when you do. Just A little Piece of You - After "Lovers" the album takes a different turn. The last 5 songs are actually a suite of songs that melt into each other. They all briefly but very accurately deal with the aftermath of the break just sung about in "Lovers". This song talks about how Syreeta probably saw the rest of the world when talking about Stevie. Here is this incredible, and very wealthy, musical genius who is blind as a bat and she is the only one around to "protect" him. Imagine how many scammers were around him trying to suck the money from him or use him to gain fame. Yet he was rarely around for her to actually protect. This song also harks back to Heavy Day by having Syreeta tell her lover that all she really wanted was just a little piece of him and, as the final lyric says, "And that's all that you gave me..." Waiting for the Postman - This cut again talks about the loneliness and wanting of the lovers but is mainly used as a lead-in for...When Your Daddy's Not Around - This is a VERY short cut where Stevie again lends his vocals as the ever-lost "daddy" in the song. Syreeta starts it with a very whiny childlike voice saying, "don't you feel sad when your daddy is not around". All of this leads to the final 2 songs. I Want To Be By Your Side/Universal Sound Of The World - The first song seems to take the same route as Stevie's "I Believe When I Fall In Love This Time It Will Be Forever" from Talking Book. Syreeta seems to be singing about a future love that will be by her side. And in "Universal Sound" we are playing audience to the greatest love there is, the love of and for God. "Thank you for natures helping hand. Thank you for letting us use your land". By saying thank you she is showing her love and of course just by being in this world, God is showing us his love. The album ends with a short reprise of "Your Kiss Is Sweet" which is perfect because it brings us back to the fun and happy part of the album heard on most of the first part. We're back to the positiveness and optimism of Stevie...AND Syreeta. This album/cd is a triumph that should be heard by any music lover and it is a must for us diehard Stevie fans because this IS another 70's classic from him. Thanks for the help and rest in peace Syreeta.

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Songstress and Writer.......2005-10-17

Syreeta had a voice that was so mellow, so smooth, and captivating. Her Album Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta showed that talent more and more. She wasn't only a great singer but a great writer as well. I enjoyed that album (Can't wait to get it on CD)Especially "your daddy's not around" "Be by my side" with J.C.Cameron and "your kiss is sweet" and "the universal side of the world." And the song "do we end as lover" makes my feet craw! I was deeply sadened when she passed away, so young and so talented. But we have her music to live by. Love you Syretta

5 out of 5 stars SYREETA AND STEVIE'S WONDERFUL MASTERPIECE!.......2004-10-31

this classic album was relesaed when i was an 11 year old kid
in the 5th grade back in 1974.at that time i was so immersed
into stevie's "fulfillingness first finale"-i had 4gotten about
this one, eventhough i should have been more aware of this album.
still,4 me this was an exciting time being a young kid and picking stevie wonder as my favorite artist.however,it didn't
take me long 2 find out that this album was released.i remember
reading an article about syreeta and stevie in the mid seventies
as a kid and they showed pictures of syreeta and stevie including the cover of the albums that they worked on 2gether.
that's when i noticed the albums "syreeta"(1972)and "stevie wonder presents syreeta"(1974)/but 4 me the search was on 4 those
albums-especially "stevie wonder presents syreeta"-which 2 me is
    a very beautiful gorgeous album.the opener 'i'm going left'starts
off with a sexy laugh from syreeta alongside that of wonder's
bouncing funk groove, the song has a strong political message
and strong in your face backing vocals provided by minnie riperton, deniece williams, shirley brewer, lani groves and anita
sherman."spinnin'and spinnin" is a beautiful song about how the
mysteries of love can leave your mind spinning.the song also has
a carnival like circus atmosphere 2 it and a nice cameo vocal
by the wonderman himself."your kiss is sweet"finds syreeta
singing about sweet kisses from other lovers but their kisses
can't compare 2 her main squeeze whose kisses beat the others by a million miles."come and get this stuff"is pure seduction about hot love.it was the first single release from this album.the
slow and relaxing "heavy day" is a song about a woman who is an
entertainer on stage 4 the world but is lonely without her man 2 love and without him,she cries a million tears.the song has the
sweet operatic voice of minnie riperton reaching high notes with her octave range near the end of the song.the very beautiful warm but regretful heartbreak "cause we ended as lovers"is so
mellow in it's complex relaxed melody,u would 4get that the song is about a love affair that ends.i have recorded on a cassette 'cause we ended as lovers'and 'creepin'(from wonder's 1974 album 'fulfillingness first finale')back2back because both songs sound so good 2gether as wonder slowjams should be."just a little piece of you" is another irresistible piece of a slow but moderate beautiful jam about some women who want 2 exclude a lady who wants the same man."waitin'for the postman" is a song that details when one is waiting 4 that special letter from their lover but the postman never comes around.this under 2 minute jam starts off slow but warms up very quickly with everybody having a excitingly good time enjoying themselves in the studio."when your daddy's not around"is the album's funniest track but this time it's just stevie (not syreeta) and dennis morrison providing comic relief.when the child gets on their
daddy's nerve, the daddy shouts:"GO ON UPSTAIRS,GO ON UPSTAIRS,GONE GET YOUR ASS UPSTAIRS!"dennis morrison's offkey vocals add 2 the tune's comedy.funny indeed!"i wanna be by your side"gets the album back on track which is a beautiful duet between syreeta and g.c.cameron-from that it blends into the beautiful finale "universal sound of the world" as syreeta's vocals go beyond emotion.the song ends unexpectingly with childlike banter and a strange voice ending by stevie himself.this album is the beautiful swansong of syreeta's career.a beautiful masterpiece....

    1 out of 5 stars poor judgement.......2004-09-13

i have been in the record business for 26 years and the people that by friom me always and i mean always get the best deals anywhere in toronto canada. i have a client who would like to have the stevie wonder presents syreeta cd (1994) yet they want 85.00 for it . that is totally ludicrous 11 tracks o nthe cd for that price iam appalled aat how much amazon.com wants for that. i have never heard the cd but i know for a fact that nothing is worth that kind of money unless it is a valuable collectors item which this is not. i have haad my clients come to me because they have gone to other stores any they would charge a ridiculus fee for an lp cd or cassette. that is why they always would come back to me. i know if i look arould i will find this cd nothing is impossible . i searched of a dottie west song called country sunshine for some time and i just wanted that song . i found it at walmart for 4.98 so i would suggest that you do some soul searching within yourselves and give the people a half decent price. the reason that i say this is because the sound records caters to all kinds of people especially the disabled that cannot go around store to store to find the song that they want and are on disability pension. i would advise you to be more understanding.

    Where are you from?

    Comments:
I just happened to be working on the internet and an inspiration led me to look up my own name. I must admit it brought tears to me eyes to think that after all this time the voice that God gave me is still remembered.

We will see what God has in mind. Only Stevland Morris and a few others know what has taken place in my life. I believe it is finally time for the healing to begin. I pray for a new beginning and I thank everyone who remembers what was.

    Thanks

A million thanks to the poster, Greatlandini for the heads up on the HIPPO release of Syreeta's two albums. For the price of one, I got two of her best releases! Syreeta, along with Minnie Ripperton & Deniece Williams (all were Stevie's background vocalists, "Wonderlove") have the sweetest, purest sopranos I've ever heard in r&b. I don't think that even today there are any singers who can touch the purity in any of their vocals.

My Dad actually had the vinyl version of "Stevie Wonder Introduces Syreeta" but somebody stole it so I was truly overjoyed to purchase it. Syreeta's voice makes even the "filler" songs sound heavenly but my personal faves are: I Love Every Little Thing About You, Keep Him Like He Is, Spinnin' & Spinnin', Universal Sound of the World & Cause We've Ended As Lovers.

If you love Minnie & Deniece, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED in added sweet Syreeta to your collection BUT follow Greatlandini's suggestion and get the double disc from HIPPO.

5 out of 5 stars I have finally found Miss Right!!!!! Ms. Wright that is!.......2004-11-11

Okay, sorry for the silly pun, but the music on this CD is great. Actually I am reviewing the 2 on 1 CD of "Syreeta/Stevie Wonder Presents..." which Hip-O Select wisely released this past summer. A great bargain, by the way, at $20 for 2 full albums.

First of all the music on this CD brings up many unanswered questions for a music fanatic like me:

    1. Why was the beautiful, talented Syreeta Wright not given her due while she was alive? Sadly, she died earlier this year.
    2. Why don't we have a wonderful 8 or 10 Album Collection of Great Syreeta music?
    3. Why did Motown not push her career better? I know one reason. Berry Gordy was busy making the disasterous "Mahogony" with Diana Ross.
    4. Why were producers not knocking down Syreeta's door to work with her? I know that ex-husband Stevie Wonder who helmed these two albums was busy with his own career, but where were Smokey Robinson, Ashford & Simpson, Richard Perry or Frank Wilson when we needed them. Think of the wonderful music they could have created with Syreeta.
    5. Why did these 2 albums not set off an absolute explosion in Black Music (& white for that matter) in the 70's especially with female artists. Sure, Roberta Flack, Patrice Rushen & others were doing good music, along with many male artists, but think of the possibilities of the direction someone like Aretha Franklin might have taken who was showing promise with "Young Gifted & Black". There could have possibly been better things for Diana Ross. I could have seen Barbra Streisand or Dusty Springfield taking off in other directions, perhaps working with Syreeta. With much respect to Carole King, I would call these albums the "Tapestry" of Black Music. No offense to Ms. King, but I actually think this music has aged even better than hers & she did some great stuff.
    6. Okay, just one more question. Why was the beautiful "Spinning & Spinning" not a #1 record on the pop charts when so much awful music was hitting the top?

Whew, I'm glad that's over. Now onto the music:

"Because We've Ended Now As Lovers" - A sad, but beautiful song chronicling Wonder & Syreeta's failed marriage. Happily, they remained good friends & the songs about their relationship problmes are done with dignity unlike say "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac. Check out Jeff Beck's wonderful version of this song.

The re-makes: 1) What other female artist was re-doing the Beatles' "She's Leaving Home" in the early 70's? I would hazard to say that Syreeta's version has more heart in it than the Beatles (who I love) original. 2)She takes Smokey Robinson's oft-recorded song "What Love Has Joined..." & totally makes it her own 3)Her remake of Wonder's "I Love Every Little Thing..." is just as good as his. Listening to them back to back is almost too much in one sitting.

The 2 numbers which close the CD (remember I'm talking about the 2 for One with "Syreeta" & "S Wonder Presents"). Anyway, "I Wanna Be By Your Side" - a duet with GC Cameron of the Spinners & "Universal Sound of the World" are simply stunning - Grammy material in my book.

"Heavy Day" another jazzy ballad is a great companion piece to Wonder's "Superwoman".

A few weak moments prevail. I wouldn't miss "When Your Daddy's Not Around". "Waiting for the Postman" is more of an interlude & not a full song. It has the potential for being a great song. The catchy "Your Kiss Is Sweet" borders on being overly cute, but is still nice.

Anyway, don't take my word. Find this album (both of them) & buy them & see if you don't agree.

By the way, if they haven't already, some of our great musicians should get together & do a Syreeta Tribute Album. Much lesser artists have been given tribute albums. Also, VH1 or BET needs to do a "Behind the Music" retrospective on this talented lady. If BET has already done something, then my hat is off to you!

My dear Syreeta. I'll look for you in heaven!

P.S. One more thing & I promise I'll shut up! If you ever luck into any of her albums like "Set My Love in Motion" pick them up! Though "Set My Love in Motion" is not quite up to par with these 2 albums, it is definitely worth a listen, especially for "I Must Be In Love." Okay, I'm through.

4 out of 5 stars stevie and syreeta's third beautiful colaboration.......2004-10-28

    in 1971,stevie wonder&syreeta wright's first full album
colaboration began with stevie's first social commentary album-
"where i'm coming from"/then in 1972,on wonder's first album of
complete musical freedom "music of my mind"/but 4 this album
"syreeta"which is her first debut solo album is pretty solid.
    there r 7 wonder-wright originals and 2 remakes.starting off
with wonder's own remake of 'i love every little thing about you'
-the song begins with wonder's strange bouncy synthesizer riff
which sounds like it was recorded under water.syreeta's soft
hot vocals doesn't overtake the song, but her voice glides along with the moderate beat."black maybe"is a slow soulful number of social commentary lyrics which is beautifully sung with strong
emotions.in the song, syreeta tells her sisters in black unity with the beautiful line:'black woman you better wash your (black)man's tears away'-what a beautiful strong compassionate statement.'black maybe'is a beautiful song of black pride.
no doubt about it."keep him like he is" is a beautiful spiritual lovesong of which she gives thanks 2 the creator 4 the man he created 4 her.she loves her man 4 the way he is."happiness"is a song with a hawaiian flavor and the joys of a spiritual paradise of heaven on earth."she's leaving home"-a remake of a beatles song, syreeta takes her vocals up a notch by reaching higher notes.but the funniest thing about this remake is stevie's strange annoying synthesizer vocals."what love has joined together"-a remake of a smokey robinson tune is gorgeously sung
by syreeta with beautiful backing vocals by linda tucker, lani
    groves,gloria barley,and james gilstrap.the song also has
beautiful strings by the julian gaillard orchestra.stevie also
provides beautiful piano playing on the song."how many days"
is a slow tender lovesong about a lonely girl who is tired of
being alone, being heartbroken and is in search of her goal of
being in love again."baby don't you let me lose this"which
begans with stevie's synthesizer magic, celebrates the joys of
being in love again but with the emphasis of being locked in
love 4ever by being brought back 2 life.no need of being lonely
again 4 she's found her soulmate.sweet vocals by syreeta and
nice backing vocals by stevie."to know you is to love you" is a
vocal interplay by stevie and syreeta.the song slowly begins
soulfully but heats up within mintues into a upbeat funk number.
the song also sounds like it could have been the final number on
    wonder's 1972 album,"talking book."/stevie's musical production
provided syreeta with a very nice debut album.syreeta's beautiful voice was 4 the most part was under the radar when she was at motown.a very beautiful underrated vocalist.

    4 out of 5 stars Neo-soul before it had a name.......2003-10-24

Although Stevie Wonder's footprints are all over his ex-wife's self-titled debut album, Syreeta's soft yet expressive vocals and thought-provoking lyrics still come through loud and clear. Only on the social commentary song "Black Maybe" does Syreeta vocally sound exactly like Mr. Wonder.
Lovely string arrangements accompany vocals and rhythm on "Keep Him Like He Is", "Baby Don't Let Me Lose It", the Hawaiian-flavored "Happiness", and the Smokey Robinson composition "What Love Has Joined Together". "To Know You Is To Love You", a hit for B.B. King one year later (1973), features a vocal cameo from the Wonder man himself.
The only misteps are "I Love Every Little Thing About You" and the cover of the Beatles "She's Leaving Home". On these songs, Syreeta's soulful wailing is bogged down by Stevie Wonder's gimmicky synthesizer arrangements. This album is neo-soul twenty years too soon.
