this cd brings back good memories. I remember when I had these albums years ago and the sound quality is great onthe cd.Ms. Carn was always an underrated singer but she can stand up to the best of them. Her ability to insert feeling into her music will get you every time.The first album is the best 4 1/2 stars and the second album 3 1/2.

Jean Carne And Happy To Be With You are two exceptional albums.
"Free Love", "No Laughing Matter", "I'm In Love Once Again" showcases that if given the right material, it lives by itself.
Those three, plus, "Time Waits For No One", "You Got A Problem" are my faves from the first album. Happy To Be With You showcases her jazz roots. My faves are "Betcha She Don't Love You", "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" and the title track. In it's entirety, this is the best that you get from Mrs. Carne!

I copped the other twofer, and that one slams too! Get them!

The two albums featured on this CD are both absolute classics and should be considered "Essentials" for any true fan of good and real R&B music. Timeless ballads like "Where Did You Ever Go?", "No Laughing Matter", "I'm In Love Once Again", "Together Once Again", "Revelation/Infant Eyes" and,of course, Jean's signature song (the immortal "Don't Let It Go To Your Head") more than justify buying this CD. Jean Carn may never have enjoyed the kind of commercial acclaim and mainstream recognition she so deserved but these two albums provide irrefutable proof of her greatness.

Jean Carn has a voice that is a once-in-a-lifetime gift to those of us who love and really appreciate great singers...this is the best of them all! This incomparable collection features two classic Jean Carn lp's from the seventies and I had the honor of attending many concerts at this time and they were riveting and incredible experiences and this is a ride on a voice unlike any other...this is the Dom Perignon of singers and this is the magnificent collection to have! Bravo Jean and please come to the West Coast and grace us with your brilliance so that we can be "Together Once Again"...we love and really do miss you and it has been far too long...2002!!!!

One of this great soul and jazz diva's best..........2003-11-16

This was Jean's second PIR release and included the hit songs "Together Once Again", "There's A Shortage Of Good Men", "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" and the title track. This album also features some excellent production work from Gamble and Huff, Dexter Wansel, Sherman Marshall and others. Sadly, however, both its sales and chart run were dismal and while "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" became Jean's signature song, she never attained the success and recognition she deserved.

THE BEST JAZZ-TINGED R&B EVER........2005-04-15

I dare say that this is the finest artistic achievement of Messrs. Gamble and Huff and their organization, as well as Ms. Carn. I refer specifically to JEAN CARN, which is not to diminish HAPPY TO BE WITH YOU, an equally fine achievement, which is also included on this disc. I would also like to say that pairing Jean Carn with the Gamble-Huff organization was a match made in heaven.

And that pretty much describes the first album featured here. A distinct slice of musical heaven. The voice! The songs! The orchestrations! If you are a fan of jazz-influenced R & B, there is no finer set of music. I always thought that pairing the great Lou Rawls with G & H was a stroke of genius. While Mr. Rawls' efforts with the team usually sold better, the overall craftmanship and execution of the Philly music organization was never better than on JEAN CARN. ARTISTRY is the main word and the main thrust here. All involved appeared to be concerned only with creating a musical masterpiece. I cannot imagine my music collection without this sparkling gem. Perfect from start to finish, with enough variety of sound and texture to captivate. Hard to pick a favorite. "Free Love," the first single, is the pinnacle of the classic 70's Philly sound, while "If You Wanna Go Back" expands the sound a bit. "No Laughing Matter," incorporates the best Philly elements with a classical jazz feel. "I'm in Love Once Again," is different, also a jazz vibe, and almost an "ambient" piece, but, at the same time couldn't fit better. "Don't You Know Love" is in a similar vibe as Billy Paul's "Me and Mrs. Jones," but with a harder edge. "You Are All I Need" is in a laid-back mood, but still moving, swirling, and intoxicating. "You've Got A Problem" is a dance-influenced self-help message song, and "Time Waits for No One" is a soul-dance gem.

HAPPY TO BE WITH YOU features a title song that captures the best of the early Jackson 5 vibe. It also features the classic opus "Don't Let It Go to Your Head," which features great backing vocals by the Futures...an r & b masterpiece. "It's Too Late To Come Back" could have fit on an early Natalie Cole album, and is a fearless, tour-de-force, Grammy-worthy gymnastic vocal, set in a faster mid-tempo groove. All of the songs here are very, very good.

Highest recommendation for lovers of soul/jazz and incredible vocal artistry and dexterity.

This collection would be worth its weight in gold just for the Philly debut album "Jean Carn" but you also get the brilliant follow up "Happy to Be With You". Never will you hear a voice like this as Jean's technique and vocal tone are superb in every way. My first exposure to this rare and under-appreciated talent was the Philly debut album and this one totally blew me away with its brilliant production and Jean's five octave vocals that will take you on the ride of your lifetime. Classics like "Don't You Know Love When You Feel It" and "Time Waits For No One" will amaze you that this singer didn't become a major Superstar as I have never heard any singer who could match these! The flowing "I'm In Love Once Again" is a great ride and the depth of emotion in "Where Did You Ever Go" is shattering. This great talent has the voice of a lifetime with the most beautiful tones I have ever heard and smoldering passion that will take your breath away-this is the real thing and don't miss the greatest voice on the planet that should be heard by all!! Jean if you are reading this we miss your great concerts out her on the West Coast!! Look at the out of stocks on this great and act fast!!!

Jean Carn was PIR's best 1970s songstress. This CD contains her first two albums and first-rate production from Gamble&Huff, Dexter Wansel and others. While not as jazz-influenced as her later albums, both are prime examples of mid-70s soul at its most sophisticated.

Jean Carn! Her first two efforts were arguably her best of the 1970's. With songs like "Don't let it go to your head", "No laughing matter" and "Time waits for no one" you see why Jean Carn was well received out of the philly international scene. With production by the legendary Gamble & Huff duo this cd is a cant miss! The quiet storm gem "Don't you know love when you see it?" is a classic begging to be heard. Jean Carn should be purchased for this song alone! Don't wait order now!
