A good overview of Sting's radio hits and popular album tracks with only one major omission ("Mad About You"), Fields of Gold also offers three previously-unreleased songs. "This Cowboy Song" and "When We Dance" appear on no other album, while "We'll Be Together" is an alternate version. The import version of this collection offers a substantially different (and expanded) track listing, dropping "Fortress Around Your Heart," "Be Still My Beating Heart," and "Why Should I Cry for You"; and adding "Mad About You," "Nothing 'Bout Me," "Seven Days," "It's Probably Me," "Love is the Seventh Wave," and "Demolition Man." --Gavin McNett

4 out of 5 stars Great songs, where's vol. 2?.......2007-04-12

Sting left the Police and had a tremendously successful solo career. Lots of great songs are on this cd, I just wish a couple more had made it like "It's Probably Me", "Shape of My Heart", "Love is the 7th Wave", "Seven Days" and "Soul Cages". The songs on here are great so I want to give it 5 stars but Sting has released so many more good songs and albums since this that we really need a volume 2 and soon. But as far as the period that this compilation covers, it is a fine way to pick up his best material from those albums.

3 out of 5 stars Its OK.......2007-02-14

Bought it for Feilds Of Gold the only song on it I really like.

5 out of 5 stars Fields of Gold: The Best of Sting.......2007-01-17

What can I say. If you like Sting and his many styles, then this is a must have!

5 out of 5 stars Sting is a Hero!.......2006-12-08

Best Sting collection ever includes most hits like Fields of gold
A must have highly recommended!

1 out of 5 stars misleading at best.......2006-11-06

It's simply not the best of Sting '84-'94.

The version of We'll Be Together (a great song) is an alternate take (mix?), VASTLY inferior to the album / radio version. It's anemic. Lacks the punch. In a word -- sucks.

That you're not told this on the cover is misleading.

I really enjoy Mr. Sumner's music. All the other tunes are as they should be, and they are terrific. 4-5 stars. But don't buy this product if you expect to hear what you've heard on the album or the radio.

Album Description

Import only compilation from one of the top British Urban/dance acts of the early '80s. This trio (Carl McIntosh, Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol) began life as Loose End, but changed their name to Loose Ends right before fame came knocking on their door when they hit paydirt with the 'Hangin' On A String' single in 1985. Their hit streak continued up through the end of the decade with tracks like 'Golden Years', 'Slow Down', 'Watching You' and others. The group did continue in the early '90s, but only after Eugene and Nichol had been replaced and the magic had all but disappeared. 15 tracks. EMI.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I loved this group........2007-01-04

Loose Ends was a group that is easily likened to Incognito, The Brand New Heavies and Soul II Soul. If you like any of those UK Funk bands, you will definitely enjoy the best of what Loose Ends had to offer.

4 out of 5 stars Dont be a fool.......2006-10-22

Back in the day I use to love Loose Ends. This album has everything that a fan could want in a best of album. Its enhanced sound quality alone makes this album a must have for any fan of loose ends.

5 out of 5 stars Forget Soul II Soul, these are the ORIGINAL innovators of UK Soul.......2006-08-08

Loose Ends are the most underrated band on the planet- point blank. Those of you who think that Soul II Soul were innovators of UK Soul, think again- they popularised it. Loose Ends opened the door for them and unfortunately are seldom given the respect for it. Carl McIntosh paved the way for the likes of Jazzie B in terms of production, producing a sound that would become distinctive. The other members, Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol would be the final jigsaw of the piece. This greatest hits gives an honest and ideal overview of their career. From the classic 'Hangin' On A String (Contemplating)' to the brilliant 'Stay A Little While, Child' to the simple but enjoyable 'Slow Down'. From the Prince-like 'Tell Me What You Want' to the trip-hoppping 'Don't Be A Fool.' From their excellent and innovative take of the David Bowie classic 'Golden Years' to the James Brown 'Funky Drummer' breakbeat sampling 'Love's Got Me' this collection is an essential purchase for, either, anyone who is getting into this talented band or those who miss the wonderful music they gave us for 7 years.

4 out of 5 stars This Is What I'm Talking About!!!.......2006-06-16

"Loose Ends" has to be one of my favorite groups from the 1980s. Some of their songs were formulaic, but it worked thanks to good production and clever instrument arrangements. The only negative about this greatest hits CD is that "You Can't Stop The Rain" isn't on it. I would download the song and buy this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Blast from the 80's Past.......2006-03-08

I have a cassette from Loose Ends - the girl in the group had a beautiful voice if you listen to the tracks where she did lead vocal. This is another UK band, like Five Starr, that worked the U.S. music scene, but, never made it to superstar status. This band must have "disbanded" around the late 80's, early 90's, cause I never heard of them again after the early 90's - about the time "gangsta rap" started to take over the music scene.

The "Golden Age" referred to here spans The Jazz Singer and the advent of the talkies to the death throes of the old studio system in the 1960s. So vast was the era's musical landscape that even this 42-track, double-disc anthology can't encompass all its peaks. Not surprisingly, the bulk of this collection originated with the Tiffany's of the screen musical, M-G-M, a body of work whose riches here encompass both pop-cultural bedrock ("Over the Rainbow," "Singin' in the Rain," "There's No Business Like Show Business," etc.) and some less familiar, if equally delightful star turns: Clark Gable gamely "Puttin' On the Ritz"; the sassy, 1948 original of "The Lady Is a Tramp" by Lena Horne; and a loopy duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" by Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban. Fred Astaire's elegant, epochal reign at RKO and M-G-M is represented by "Night and Day," "Let's Face the Music and Dance," and three others, while Metro mainstays Gene Kelly and Judy Garland share equal time and billing. It's not perfect--Cagney's "Yankee Doodle Boy" and/or some Sinatra seem more logical choices than the odd "bonus" duet of Casablanca's "As Time Goes By" and "Lara's Theme" from Dr. Zhivago that close out disc one--but it's a stunning, surprisingly comprehensive primer on the Hollywood film musical nonetheless. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars They were right--there is NO business like the show business they did way back when !!!.......2006-11-18

Everything that happens in life
Can happen in a show
You can make 'em laugh
You can make 'em cry
Anything
Anything can go....

The clown with his pants falling down
Or the dance that's a dream of romance
Or the scene where the villain is mean
That's entertainment!

The lights on the lady in tights
Or the bride with the guy on the side
Or the ball where she gives him her all
That's entertainment!

The plot and the hot simply teeming with $ex
A gay divorcee who is after her ex
It could be Oedipus Rex
Where a chap kills his father
And causes a lot of bother

The clerk who is thrown out of work
By the boss who is thrown for a loss
By the skirt who is doing him dirt

The world is a stage,
The stage is a world of entertainment!

This two CD set amply proves that the musical melodies and lyrics from the golden age of the Hollywood musical remain unsurpassed to this day. This generous two CD set offers 42 incredible songs from Hollywood classic musicals. Most of these fine numbers are indeed from MGM, as Amazon correctly notes; but there are some RKO numbers and even a little from Warner Brothers. Thank goodness, though, that most of these songs came from MGM movies; MGM was the only studio that could boast that it truly had "more stars than there are in the heavens."

I love so many songs on these two CDs. Of course, there's the unforgettable classic "Over The Rainbow" sung by Judy Garland; she also performs "Easter Parade" and "Get Happy" on this two CD set and she carries most of the tune for "I Got Rhythm" even though Mickey Rooney helps her a little. I love "Baby, It's Cold Outside" for its' romantic overtones; and Lena Horne's "The Lady Is A Tramp" is flawless! We also get a rare chance to hear Clark Gable sing in "Puttin' On The Ritz;" and Bing Crosby's "Going Hollywood" may be brief but it's a fun song anyway.

There are two "bonus" tracks on the first CD: "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca and "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhivago. "As Time Goes By" is a good choice; it is another unsurpassed classic song that brings back memories and touches even the hardest of hearts. "Lara's Theme," however, is from the mid 1960s and I don't consider this period to be part of the "golden age" of Hollywood musicals.

The liner notes are excellent and they offer wonderful photos of the stars as well. The cover art is well done and the reverse cover art tells which movie each song is from and who is performing each song. Moreover, the quality of the sound is excellent especially when you consider that these numbers were recorded quite a few decades ago.

In short, this superlative two CD highlights the glory of the Hollywood musical when a certain type of sophistication dominated professional movie production. I highly recommend this CD for fans of Hollywood musicals, classic pop vocals and fans of the artists and actors who perform on this two CD set.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best cds I ever bought. .......2006-06-07

What an amazon collection of songs! This is bar none my favorite cd just because of the variety and the quality of songs on it. I love music from this era, and this cd is the perfect companion to my life. Love it! Buy it, you won't regret it for a moment!

1 out of 5 stars Never Sounded Better.......2006-03-16

Apart from the great selection of soundtracks, what really makes this compilation top value is the quality of the sound processing. Executed with finesse, these tracks sound better than when first issued and many are unedited, fuller versions: like "Singing In The Rain", for example. Throw in the great price, and this double disc set is a "must have" for all lovers of classic movie music.

5 out of 5 stars Somewhere Over The Rainbow.......2006-02-24

It was once said by the songwriters of that era - "There are two artists you want perform your songs on the big screen, they are Fred Astaire and Judy Garland they sing it just the way we wrote it, for which you will have a guaranteed hit on your hands"...well, this collections certainly has some merit to that statement...because with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire performing seven songs each, there must be something to it.

This collection of musicals still has the magic that we remember from those bygone years...but as long as we have the labels and networks who play and show these wonderful films of yesteryear, they will never be forgotten...hats off to Rhino Records, George Feltenstein (producer) and Doug Schwartz (engineer) and Turner Classic Movies for sharing those 42 selections from 42 films...celebrating decades of the tunes and artists that gave it their all...from what it commonly called "The Hollywood Dream Factory"...The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals is still among us...gotta love it!

Once Judy was free from the shackles of the MGM movie studio, she started Concert appearances and gave us a brilliant "A STAR IS BORN" at Warner Brothers in 1954. Arriving at Capitol Records in 1955, Judy took charge; determined to sing her songs HER way. With superb arrangements from Nelson Riddle, Mort Lindsey, and others, Judy never sang in the "sweet girl next door from MGM Style" ever again!! She was a woman with a lot of good and bad life experience, and it shows in the rich, robust, warm, full-throttle vocals here.
In addition to Judy's signature songs, you'll hear "Danny Boy", "Last Night When We Were Young", "Me And My Shadow," "Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries," "Lucky Day," "Little Girl Blue," "Anyplace I Hang My Hat Is Home," "I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues," "I Concenttrate On You," "If I Love Again," "This Is It", and so many more! The only real great Judy performances I'm missing here are "Hello, Bluebird" and the full-force, dramatic Mort Lindsey arrangement of "By Myself"-- both of these are included on the soundtrack of Judy's final film "I COULD GO ON SINGING" in 1963. For The Record, on the beautiful 1955 recording of "Over The Rainbow" included here on CD One, it does sound as though Judy quietly bursts into tears mid-way through, and just keeps on crying until the finish. Judy's fans, however (and we know who we are!) will be filled with joy. for this beautiful 3-CD Set, along with "THE WIZARD OF OZ," "A STAR IS BORN" and the complete, historic 1961 "CARNEGIE HALL" CD, are all the essentials necessary for a proper Judy Garland Festival. REJOICE IN THE GLORIOUS TALENTS OF JUDY GARLAND!!! Amen!!

5 out of 5 stars Rare Manufacturing Glitch Corrected.......2007-06-13

As a member of the production team, I noticed and inquired about the comments that CD #1 had a manufacturing defect. EMI London looked into this with the plant, to learn that it did accidentally occurr on a few pressings, and it has been corrected. Our sincere apologies. It should not happen again. My information is that anyone who has a defective CD should be able to return it to the seller, and they will be supplied a new one. This is most unusual, and again our apologies. We were very pleased to see the comments on the booklet and excellent audio quality, as a great deal of time was spent on them. These recordings are glorious, and we wanted them presented in the best way possible.

5 out of 5 stars Great Vocal Poor Quality CD.......2007-05-19

The vocals and remastering are superb on this Judy Garland CD. I agree with the reviewer who noted the POOR quality of the first cd. I too, have purchased two copies of this set from two different Amazon sellers and both skip on the "Memories of You " track. Shame on EMI you can even see a bubble on the playing side of the first CD.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Judy Garland.......2007-05-16

This is an excellent collection of Judy's best. She was a great entertainer and singer. Once she sang a song, nobody else could sing it better.

5 out of 5 stars Poor CD Quality.......2007-05-13

Both Judy Garland's voice and the music on these CD's are incredible. However, on disc 1 song #17 the CD sticks and won't move on to the next song. I have tried 2 different sets of this CD they both stick on the same song in the same place. Perhaps, because this CD was made in England is the problem. I have never experienced this type of problem with any CD. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same problem with this CD. Thank you.

Minnie Riperton's untimely death from breast cancer (in 1979 at the age of 32) robbed the world of one its truly great, truly distinctive voices. Her operatically-trained, five-octave instrument was the very model of beauty and control. Consequently, her signature tune, "Lovin' You," is likely the breeziest bit of pop you may ever hear. In addition to her own songs, Riperton also makes light work of material as lovely and strong as Stevie Wonder's "Perfect Angel" and Joni Mitchell's "Woman of Heart and Mind." The only misstep on this collection, in fact, is yet another unnecessary take of The Doors' "Light My Fire." --Michael Ruby

5 out of 5 stars WHAT MORE CAN I SAY...........IT'S MINNIE.........LEFT US TOO SOON.......2007-01-24

you know, that cancer is a whole 'nother monster. this cd is the reason that i am saying this. this is proof positive that minnie left us too soon. i love everything on this. it makes me wanna sit back, look at the blue skies at the beach, grab a cold beverage, and just forget. how minnie and her cohorts were able to perfectly put that vibe within everyone of these songs is beyond me, and that is what makes this so amazing. she will NEVER be forgotten here............right, mariah?

5 out of 5 stars LOVIN' YOU !.......2006-07-04

Minnie Riperton was the "Perfect Angel" of sweet soul music; as Vickie Sue Robinson had the perfect rhythm for dance music. God bless them both !!

4 out of 5 stars A MASTER PIECE!!!.......2006-06-22

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO HEAR A REAL VOICE WITH REAL MELODIES PLAYING, THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU! THIS WOMAN (MINNIE RIPERTON) WAS SO AMAZING ! I FELL IN LOVE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THE VOICE. THE KEY TRACKS ARE: "LOVING YOU", "CAN YOU FEEL WHAT I'M SAYIN'", "INSIDE MY LOVE" & "LIGHT MY FIRE". IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION! TRUE FANS SHOULD CHECK OUT THE HARD TO FIND "ADVENTURES IN PARADISE" ALBUM. THIS CD WAS PRODUCED BY: STEVIE WONDER, LEON WARE, MINNIE RIPERTON & RICHARD RUDOLPH. BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Still Lovin' You Minnie............2005-08-09

Minnie Riperton...such a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful voice. The younguns aren't ready for this one. This is for those of us that can truly appreciate real music and real talent. This woman had the voice of the most gentle hummingbird. Her songs, quite a few of which were co-written by her husband, told stories. She took our breath away. She was taken from us way too soon, but her voice will live on forever.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it or I'll come to your home..........2006-11-12

I first discovered AG thru the Ronstadt records in the mid 70s, which were largely him on guitars and keys (You're No Good, Heat Wave, When Will I be Loved). His incredible gifts made these songs stand out. When he released his first couple of solo albums I was all ears and as a guitar player, strived to duplicate his sound. The songs were simple, musically very rich, and very listenable. After his 4th album, Whirlwind, I kinda lost track of him. I recently hooked up w/ him again, and listened to a lot of his 90s stuff, which is a bit more complex, but still great. After a couple of listens, songs like KING OF SHOWBIZ and CAN ANYBODY SEE YOU are right up there w/ LONELY BOY and HEARTACHES IN HEARTACHES. All are included here. The (at this point) happy postscript is I met the man, and am now playing in his band! He really is brilliant. Dont let the simple melodies fool you- the chords underneath are complex and many. BUY THIS CD!!

5 out of 5 stars Two good reasons.......2005-10-11

for singles fans to buy this CD: 1) The long version of Lonely Boy. The radio station issued 45 sounds like a bad edit at the end and cuts a great guitar lick from Gold. 2) Never Let Her Slip Away. One of those singles that got lost in the glut of releases in the late 70's. Gold's a real talent, and the liner notes reveal many facts you'll be surprised to learn. There's more to his story than Thank You For Being A Friend.

    4 out of 5 stars good but..........2003-10-29

this is a very good greatest hits compilation but i really wish his album "what's wrong with this picture" would be released.

    5 out of 5 stars Buy it!!!!!.......2000-12-20

Andrew Gold is a class songwriter in the same league as Billy Joel or Christopher Cross. His music is moving, real and genuine. If you love popular music in its highest, most original form buy this album and sit back and enjoy - life isn't so bad after all!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs I've ever heard.......1999-04-16

In my opionion Andrew Gold is one of the greatest underrated singers, musicians, songwriters, producers, engineers, ... of our time. This album contains all of his big hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. If you are fond of pop music this is the ultimate album. If your looking for light rock music with a dash of country, this is it. Do you like heartbreaking love ballads then this album is a must for you. This CD is simply THE BEST!

I would buy their studio album "Gold" instead...unless you can't live without "Only When You Leave."

    5 out of 5 stars True.......2006-02-06

True is simply a beautiful song. It will be played 100 years from now. Spandau Ballet may be one hit wonders, but who cares? They have left behind something that has touched millions of people, and will continue to touch those that were conceived while their parents played this.

    5 out of 5 stars Solid Gold.......2005-08-06

I admit, I rediscovered Spandau Ballet after hearing the song "Gold" over and over while playing Grand Theft Auto-Vice City in 2003. So I bought this CD recently. It's a very complete Spandau collection for the casual fans. Die hard fans may find a missing song they think should be included but the major hits--"Gold," "True," "Communication," "Chant No. 1," are all here. I'm not too much feeling the black and white cover, but the booklet and interior design make the set a very impressive "best of" collection.

    5 out of 5 stars A Solid 'Best of..'.......2005-06-17

What we have here is what it says on the front of the jewel case: The Best of Spandau Ballet.

Often unfairly marketed as the poor man's Duran Duran early in their career, Spandau Ballet matured from their new wave-esque beginnings of To Cut a Long Story Short', through the early to mid 80's with True and Gold, probably their strongest songs here and onto 'Through The Barricades'. Personally there are one or two songs on here I would have omitted however I'm not going to complain. In all, a decent (and decently mastered) set of songs.

4 out of 5 stars I Know This Much Is True........2005-05-24

Spandau Ballet were one of the more popular names in the British New Romantic trend in the early 1980s. Owing a debt to Roxy Music, among other bands, the five-man British group wrote smooth, polished pop tunes that often blended blue-eyed soul, new wave, and lite jazz. By the time Spandau Ballet broke into the American market with their famous Top Ten ballad "True," they were already stars in England with a handful of hits. "Gold: The Very Best of Spandau Ballet" is a 2000 compilation released by Capitol/EMI, and it's the best collection on the American market, as it features the band's singles from 1980-86, apparently remastered. (Material from their final album, 1989's "Heart Like a Sky," is MIA). Aside from "True," there's the effortlessly elegant "Only When You Leave," the soaring "Gold," "I'll Fly for You," and the title track of their 1986 CBS release "Through the Barricades." Soon after, the band dissolved, and lead singer Tony Hadley went on to pursue a solo career. But we can always turn to this collection, which gives a clear snapshot of one of the most stylish bands of the 1980s.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection of songs here........2007-07-22

You could not have come up with a better collection of songs from this group. George Michael laid it down with these hot tracks from the 80's. Careless Whisper is a straight up true classic and it sounds just as good today as it did some 20 plus years ago. I also love the track "Everything She Wants".

    5 out of 5 stars WHAM!.......2007-05-12

That has been the case with so many great performers within the past couple of years from acts like Britney Spears, and Madonna. Nevertheless, there are those that have delivered. That arguably has been the case with Wham! Since the duo of George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley enetered from Britain back in the 1980's, they still are a guilty pleasure for anybody to get up and dance to. Although the group hasn't reunited, the songs are still good enough to sing with. This collection of their songs says so.

Wham's The Final is a real well-definitive reflection of George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley, and what this great group shine back in the 1980's. The songs here have all been restored, and remastered very well here. Unlike other hits packages from Wham, this record has delivered without anything overlooked. All the great classics are highlighted here like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, the soulful Careless Whisper, The Edge Of Heaven, Bad Boys, Young Guns (Go For It), I'm Your Man, and Everything She Wants, Club Tropicana, and Freedom. Unlike the 1997 WHam hits package, this one is the one that still remains definitive.

Nevertheless, it is quite sad that the Wham's The Final hasn't been released here in America, unless it is a import. This is a great collection, and well worth buying for anyone who loved the group, or if you are just a fan of 80's music, I absolutely love this record a whole lot.

Soul Asylum were, in many ways, two distinct bands. Prior to signing with Columbia, Soul Asylum scored minor hits with "Cartoon" and "Sometime to Return." Their hard-won reputation, however, was not as a singles band. Instead, the group built its fan base via incessant touring and a string of hard-charging, heart-on-sleeve albums, including the wonderful Made to be Broken and While You Were Out. Soul Asylum's later years brought the hits ("Runaway Train," "Misery"), the MTV exposure, and the change in the band's style from gritty rock to hook-driven pop. Fans of the band's latter, more commercial period should find this disc interesting, since the set is dominated by this material. There are some treats for rarity hunters, however. A live recording of "Closer to the Stars," an acoustic reading of "Stranger," and a previously unreleased track called "Lonely for You" beef up this collection. While Black Gold certainly could have been more complete, for fans of latter-period Soul Asylum, this is a good starting point, albeit one missing most of the group's most important and interesting early work. --S. 4 out of 5 stars Good collection from Grave dancers on, but heavy on Dim light and Candy from a Stranger.......2006-12-07

This is a decent collection of song from Soul Asylum From 1993 (grave dancer's union) on. They could have drawn more heavy on the Grave Dancer's album which was by far their best seller, but chose to go with a mix from their last next two albums Let your dim Light shine and Candy from a stranger instead, and unfortunate. Although the songs are good, Many fans feel ripped off because their favorite are off of grave dancer are not included. Also, Although A&M re-released some of the Twintone/restless back catalog, about 4 or 5 albums total before grave dancer, they did not include any of that material. This year though they did release their best of Soul Asylum, the twintone years ,which has the earlier recordings from Soul Asylum previous released first by twintone and next in 1991 by Restless, then a few by A&M. But, despite this album missing pieces, a good one for the collection, and not that expensive on Amazon.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't Showcase Their Best stuff.......2004-05-02

Let's be honest. Soul Asylum isn't the greatest band in the world. But there was a time when they were respected. After "Let Your Dim Light Shine" they fell off the face of the Earth. Unlike many bands who didn't deserve it, after listening to these cuts, these guys kinda do. The only saving graces from this album are the tracks from "Grave Dancer's Union". What they shoulda done is included:
    Eyes of a Child
    The Sun Maid
    Crawl
    Nothin to Write Home About
    99%
    New World

    1 out of 5 stars A sad excuse.......2004-02-08

With this out of the way maybe a best of album of the Soul Asylum that actually changed people's lives can be made so those who think this second rate placebo is good can finally hear the real deal.

    I suggest something like:

Basically, what people need to hear is a boxed set that begins with Time's Incinerator up until Hang time (with about half of the Horse they rode in on thrown in)and a handful of the best covers they did along the way.

Ultimately the downfall may be summed up by "the harder that it sparkles the more it can corrupt."

If that line means nothing to you...you may not want to bother since you have been sold a string of pearls.

2 out of 5 stars Best of from 1993 and Beyond.......2003-12-25

The sad truth is that Soul Asylum is not the band on this album. They may have become the band on this album but for almost 15 years they were a much better and more complete band. Success came after ...the horse they rode in on and Hang Time, but for me their peak was much earlier with Made To Be Broken and While You Were Out, both of which albums were left out.

Never forget that Soul Aslyum started in 1979 as Loud Fast Rules and then changed their name to Soul Aslyum because they didnt want to be seen as a HC band.

And where are the Time's Incinerator songs? How many people even know about this album? Its too bad that Sould Asylum will be thought of as a 90s bad because they are so much more than that.

    4 out of 5 stars punk+pop+grunge=good.......2002-10-07

Im not familiar with much old Soul Asylum, so I cant say whats missing other than "Easy Street". But I do know that what is on here is great stuff. All the bigger 90's hits you would expect, plus good songs I didn't know and a few live/unreleased tracks. It's a great thing to have for the person who needs only one Soul Asylum disc, especially at 19 tracks and 70+ minutes. Don't be in Misery, get this.
