Almost a "best of " CD.......2001-08-17

This may be as close to a "Best of Wild Cherry" album that we may ever see. They have left out key cuts such as "Dancin' music band", "Nowhere to run" and "123 Kind of love" but it's still a good CD. This Funk Disco band was one of the best, and "Hey" I hated disco, but they put enough funk and guitars into their sound to satisfy even me. They had 4 albums, "Wild Cherry", "Electrified Funk","I love my music", "Only the wild survive" and got better with each album. I gave this CD a 4 star rating because all the songs are great and they included at least one cut from all 4 albums. I just wish they had included the above mentioned cuts and more, thus 4 stars instead of 5.

Not a bad album, but way too much cheesey '70's disco, weak vocals, and dated synth sounds. Some great bass diluted by mediocre material. About 4 great tunes in all.

For an CD that's half live 'I Wanna Play For You' is actually one of Stanley Clarke's better all-around albums.That's speaking strictly from a quality control standpoint.This reissue edits out two live cuts from the original double vinyl album (YOUR NOT MISSING MUCH!).Onto the studio cuts the title song is superb,bright fusion-very well produced and moody.The same can be said for the more composed
"The Streets Of Philledelphia",even if Clarke sings it works this time!Now the REAL meat of it starts with "Just A Feeling"-the song is a GROOVE!George Duke works the electric piano like his life depends on it and the tune itself is one of Clarke AND Duke's most infectious!It might even be the best song here!
"Together Again" is a difficult close contender.Stanley Clarke plays almost all the instruments (except a short horn solo in the bridge) and the bouncy tune
is a testement to Clarke's talent and musicianship.It actually would be a great song for a soundtrack!On the jazzy side "Blues For Mingus' showcases Stanley on his upright bass-it's one of his best in the acoustic medium.The live cuts showcase Stanley's
mid 70's funk fusion and great versions of "School Days","Hot Fun" and "Rock N' Roll Jelly" and actually they jam alot harder then the studio versions.So despite it being half and half I would not only recommend 'I Wanna Play For You' to even a casual Stanley Clarke fan but to anyone with a passing interest in bass oriented jazz-funk-fusion in general.Highly recommended!

There's None Like Stanley.......2003-05-31

The fact that you could be listening to Stanley Clarke while you are watching a movie or TV sitcom and not even know it says more than a mouthful. I can't name all the movies and TV shows that use Stanley for their music track. One of the greatest bass guitar players of all time, Stanley Clarke makes smiles with his up front style of bass playing with rhythms that make you move and groove. I personally think that this album is one of the best jazz albums ever recorded, trully a classic! You will not get bored with Stanley's in your face style and hot licks on the bass. I could not call my jazz collection complete without owning this album. I personally have 3 copies of this album on CD and 1 on LP. If you purchase this get it on CD and if you love jazz that is clean, smooth and exciting all at once, you will not be dissapointed. Marvelous!!! What are you waiting for? Buy it now!!!

...when the CD generation came about, this is one of the first CDs--of an album I useta jam in my college years--I purchased. It predated Zapp's vocoder style by about a year, plus, that other Stanley was nowheres in sight. You can hear the Duke/Clarke project coming into fruition, Dee Dee Bridgewater was getting more into her jazzy vocal stylings, and it has some of the best session players out at the time--Harvey Mason, Freddie Hubbard, Tom Scott, Lee Ritenour, Steve Gadd and a cast of greats. And just to show you how versatile he really can get is the jam "Blues for Mingus", where our hero goes acoustic. A great jazz album, one I think, have/will stand the test of time...

Bootzilla Baby.......2006-01-20

The album is Funky, Jazzy, Soul, Gospel all rolled in one. The other artist give it a groove that is sweet, tender and is a light to those who has the breath of life and is a living soul. I think that this is one of Bootsy's great down to eart sounds. It brought me from the edge of depression jamming and enjoying bootsy at his best. The mix master did a great job with the volume of each voice on the album. It takes the Bootsy Fans to many deminsions. I purchased the album because, "I'm Funky and I Know it." Don't Let Them Put You Down, took me on a trip when people around me only talk negetive and step on my spirit. Love Gangster reminded me of what I wished everyone in the world would do. Just by having Macy Grey sing on the album put it in another universe. "I Get So Emotional." "If I Get This Kind of Love Whats an Album Bill?" Soul Sister is like the Black Hole of the Big Band, like Eve the Mother of Us All. This is like the writing of the Constitution. Its for all the People. "If You are Funky and You Know It, You Will Enjoy This Album, an Adventure in Wonder Land. Power to the Funkateers. If someone listens to this album and cannot groove on it, they are not a true Bootsy Fan and a George Clinton fan. One more thing, "This albums has some low down dirty funk, pure funk, uncut funk. Funk it up now cause, "Can't No Body Do Me Like Jesus, Can't No Body Do Me Like Jesus." I Probly can say more, but I think you can understand and jam on this UNCUTFUNK. Not the Bootsy I know.......2005-12-30

I am a long time Bootsy fan, love all of his previous works, even the projects he's done without George, but this one takes the cake i mean this is hourable, whatever happen to the nice chous Bootsy use to have, and who are all these people on this CD, I know Snoop, but none of these guys can bring the FUNK like George Clinton, man bootsy this is your worst work ever, and I thought I'd never have to say that. Stick to your original sound forget trying to blend in with the new because most of this stuff out here is pure garbage anyway, and that's probably why your CD came out that way. Stick to what you do best, and ask George to help on your next project, see that;s what made yall different from the rest yall got that original flava that last a life time, these new groups, their just fly by night one hit fonders, nobodies gona look for their music in the next 10 years, don't bring anymore garbage out like that again Bootsy, you need to come correct mor don't come at all.

this is one of the worst funk albums of all time, i own all of bootsy's cd's and this is one is probably the worst. Corny rapping, weak bass lines, pretty much all the tracks have drum machines. Bootsy's Blasters of the universe is infinitley better than this schwag-ass bunk funk. The music smells worse than a fifty cents concert

OLD SKOOL MEETS NU SCHOOL - Lady Kier, Kelli Ali, Prince?!.......2005-01-04

I found this in the bargain bins and was mighty surprised - rather than toss off a dated 80s retro flashback, Bootsy has delivered the perfect blend of old-skool vs. nu-school funk to bring him up to date - with the help of tasty vocal contributions from LADY KIER (DEEE-LITE!), ROSIE GAINES (ex-PRINCE "Diamonds and Pearls" amazing singer!), FATBOY SLIM, KELLI ALI (ex-SNEAKER PIMPS), this is really a surprisingly consistent jam of the year! The biggest mystery is the singer "ONE" who sounds awfully a lot like PRINCE (?!) - is it PRINCE or one of his psuedonyms or what?! Whatever the verdict, many of these tracks sounds like "LET'S WORK/WANNA BE YOUR LOVER" stripped-down early PURPLE ONE FUNK! Get it now - this was first released on Warners on import, now licensed to THUMP, who def have good ears! Support funk, BUY BOOTSY!!

Few months ago I discovered Donaldson on the Jazz station in NY.
I bought a first record ;I loved it so much that I bought my second record.
I love it.It it part of the few discs I have in my car,and can listen to it again and again.
I love classical and jazz;I tolerate the rest.
Donaldson is easy,swinging,funky and is a great introduction to jazz music:my daughter,16,loves it too!!

Another typical funk classic album from the brilliant tenor sax sounds of Lou Donaldson. The album released on Blues Notes features Lou's popular and individual classic jazz funk tones. Lou even opts to 'chill' out on a number called 'Over The Rainbow' but on other numbers like 'Donkey Walk' Lou's style and also his unique band really shine. T of P Horns: the best of the best.......2006-09-06

I used to hang out with these guys in the late 70s S.F. and travelled around the west coast to see their shows. Bruce & Victor Conte were at the top of their game, as was that phenomenal brass section. "Lovin' You Is Gonna See Me Thru" is an excellent cut and of course the title cut is T of P sheer beauty. I highly recommend, if you can get your hands on a copy.

Besides the title cut, which is a Tower Of Power classic, there is not much else on this album that will thrill anybody that likes this group. The song "Yin-Yang Thing" is the only other song on here that's really good Tower. "Share My Life" and "Love Bug" are merely ok, and the rest.....pretty awful.

Mother's Finest is my favorite live band since I first saw them in '79. The live album was always my favorite. I recently got Iron Age on CD and became reaquainted with it. In a word WOW! This band can move from Rock, to Funk Rock to Hard Rock without blinking. You gotta love almost every thing they do. I saw them do a lot of these tunes plus some from "Black Radio won't play this record" at a Harley event. It was a harder set than they normally do and it was perfect for the Biker crowd. Oh my God does this CD kick tremendous butt! Living Colour has got absolutely nothing on this band. If you like funky metalized guitars and grooves, this CD is a no-brainer! Check out the tracks LIKE A NEGRO, ATTITUDE, and GENERATOR and all your questions will be answered. Absolute balls to the wall rock/funk.

This reminds me of the kind of stuff guitarist Stevie Salas does, another favorite of mine. I'm willing to bet black radio totally ignored this band. They can't handle what this band had to offer and that's a damn shame! GET THIS CD!!!

Mother's Finest at their heaviest !.......2004-02-20

John's trash-metal guitars , Dion's technical drum-playing, the power vocals from both Glenn and Joyce and Wyzard's metallic funk bass make this record the ultimate funk and metal marriage.
Here we find lyrics of concerned citizens and the musical power to get the message through. No other band looks or sounds like Mother's Finest. They 've never followed the fashion ( except maybe for "If Looks Could Kill")and were never part of any big musical movement. As a result they never hit the big time status and are only known by true music lovers. Buy all of their albums and enjoy the incredible talents of these heady funk-rockers.

Great mid-90s rap album.......2006-10-23

Produced by E-40 and B-Legit, this adeptly crafted album does a fine job a depicting both the highs and lows of street life without ever sounding depressed. Standout track "Pimps Up, Those Down" features a super-funky backbeat, and though not entirely non-explicit, one of the rappers makes a statement about how he'd rather be working the microphone and turntables instead of his mojo.
