Cool Grooves.......2005-12-31

Loose Ends is playing in the Bay Area for New Year's Eve and I just finished listening to an interview with the lead singer and I just had to write a review. This is one of my favorite bands along with the SOS Band, whom it is quite evident influenced Loose Ends, and Cameo. I remember when I first heard 'Hanging on a String' on a recommendation from my mother, no less, and it totally blew my mind.

Although, I didn't buy the "A Little Spice" album, I bought their subsequent albums which are all good -- "Zagora" being the best one of all in my opinion with the classics -- 'I Can't Wait Another Minute' and 'You Can't Stop the Rain.' 'The Sweetest Pain' and 'Stay A Little While, Child' were in heavy rotation on my boom box as well. I had this album on cassette tape and played it so much that the tape thinnned out and finally broke. I guess it's time to cop a new one.

This band has been sampled by many hip hop artists, such as: Pete Rock and Shaq, who did his take on 'You Can't Stop the Rain.' For those of you who like really good music, buy this because there is something on this album for all "true" music lovers to appreciate.

A True Investment.......2005-10-15

I have this on vinyl, cassette and CD. It is my hope that the value of the vinyl will increase in time as more music afficianados come to recognize the brillance of this group. I did college radio in the 80's and the phone would lite up to know who was the group with the unique sound (college radio stations received alot of promo copies to test market). Music lovers of all ages enjoyed the sounds of this group and they did not get the recognition they deserved. My 9 and 7 year olds now sing along to the sounds. Try to obtain the entire music catalog...you will not be disappointed.

This being the second album by Loose Ends I own (and being absolutely in love with the other one-'A Little Spice') this album doesn't disappoint.Throughout the album this trio blend inklings of middle Eastern modalities in with their classy 80's-style funky soul,resulting in the monsterous opener "Stay A Little While,Chile".The third cut "I Can't Wait Another Minute" is very indicative of how this consistant album sounds,have for the more dancable closer "Let's Get Back In Love".
It's apparent that after hearing 'A Little Spice' and this album,'Zagora' that Loose Ends barely got the credit due them even in their native UK-their sound managed to be contemporary,smooth,funky and exotic all at once and created an ambience of sophistication that appeals to me a great deal.I listened to this CD for the first time coming home from a long two hour trip at night and it sounds great as evening traveling music.So listen up and enjoy!

Dynamite followup! .......2005-03-29

Zagora has some dynamite grooves! I still love Stay a Little While Child, which Mariah Carey did a remake of with Jermaine Dupri, so it's still a timeless record. I liked Slow Down when it was a hit. But I definitely love the very smooth and mellow You Can't Stop the Rain, which still caresses under my skin every time I hear it. So beautiful an R&B ballad from the '80s. The rest of the album still continues with the funky grooves and surprises!

Classic Eighties UK R&B at its best!!!!.......2005-03-22

The 80s saw many R&B acts from the UK make it big 'across the pond': Heatwave, Billy Ocean, Sade, Terrance Trent D'Arby and Soul II Soul are just a few, but, it was really Loose Ends (along with Sade) who had the most success in the R&B market of the American South, where I grew up. 'Zagora' is clearly Loose Ends' best album. "Stay A Little While Child" and "Slow Down" were two of the group's most successful singles while "Nights of Pleasure" and "You Can't Stop The Rain" have become permanent fixtures on "Quiet Storm" radio programs across the South. While the group's material before and since is well worth a listen, for those curious about Loose Ends, 'Zagora' is the most precise and well-rounded introduction to one of the groups who forever changed the sound of R&B on both sides of the Atlantic.
