Customer Reviews:
Just like the concert.......2007-01-24
I went to the concert when this album was made; the reproduction is great. Both this album and "Together For The First Time,Live", will be an asset to any blues lovers collection.
Good set.......2007-01-08
though I dig the first one better overall there is something about the musical chemistry that B.B.King&Bobby Bland have that blends there styles together so well. "Let the Good Times Roll" is on Point. B.B. with Lucille&Bobby on Vocals make a strong combination. this is a Good Live set.
BB King at his best!.......2006-02-28
I have been listening to this record for over 25 years, BB:s tone on this record still strikes me as it did the first time I heard it. One of BB:s outro:s in one of the medleys on this record is a fantastic value for the price paid for this alone. You can hear a young BB play really loud and strong making his amp sing in fantastic overtones on this one, not that nice and sweet studio tone. The two artists, BB and Bobby, works very well together and if their first record together was Bobbys, this is definitely BB:s.
Great Combination.......2005-01-14
BB on Lucille and Bobby on vocals is a great combination. The two compliment eachother's talents.
Bobby's vibrant personality adds to the fun of this CD. He sings with passion and joy while spending the entire CD hitting on a pretty lady in the audience even making comments to her in between the lines and eventually inviting her to sing.
Neither BB nor Bobby are among my favorite artists. However there is something about the two of them together that makes this CD one of my favorites.
Fine, but not as good as their first.......2000-11-19
This is a reprise of the wonderfully successful first album these two did together. It is worth having not only for their obvious enjoyment working together, but for the terrific job in "Let The Good Times Roll".
Otherwise, this is not as good as the first effort, which I thought had much more wide range of songs. Make that your first purchase of these two.

Customer Reviews:
great artist poor sound.......2007-05-12
to begin, the audio was bad there was a lack of bass and it didn't have that live feel to it. It should have been remastered, with the technology available today, it would have been a five star recording.
BB and Bobby, blues at it's best.......2006-11-05
BB King, iconic blues man, and Bland live - it's a classic must have.
Blues, blues, blues.......2006-08-26
What can I say, Bobby Blue Bland and BB King. messin' around on stage. A great interplay of two great bluesmen just having fun.
Not the all time best of either one, but absolutely worth the price of admission
two alltime greats are better than one.......2006-08-05
Is there anything better than B.B. King? Only when he's with Bobby "Blue" Bland. Great.
An Intimate Evening With The King... Mr. B.B. King.......2006-03-20
If you enjoy the live blues scene, you'll love this piece. You can almost feel the ambiance of a dimly lit, smokey blues club. Poor yourself a mellow bourbon, light up a fine cigar and enoy a laid back evening with the legendary blues of Mr. B.B. King & Bobby Blue Bland. The bond of these two long time friends is obvious in their free-flowing dialog and makes for a comfortable evening of easy listening. This release has been somewhat overlooked throughout the years..... share it with your friends.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2007-07-26
Although the music is from two previous cds, it is better than the usual repackaging that is uaually done by greedy record companys. It's a low-priced, hard-core blues cd that is really a pleasure to listen to. True, serious blues collectors should get the "Together for the First Time" and "Together Again" cds. But if your not that serious, then this is for you.
One thing you should be aware of is that there are no credits of any kind. Usually, this would be a negative, but sometimes you have to take what you can get and be glad to get it.
BOBBY BLAND AND BB KING -- TOGETHER AND IN TOP FORM.......1999-12-22
This CD, "I Like to Live the Love", is a compendium of cuts from two previous collaborations between the venerable B.B. King and masterful blues vocalist, Bobby Bland. Those earlier efforts, "Together for the First Time" and "Together Again" have become blues classics. The music is live. Most of it is terrifically good. King's guitar mastery and operatic blues shouting blends well, often wonderfully well, with Bland's subtler vocals. The side men do a solid job and the audience response, often distracting on concert CD's, usually enhances the music. It is apparent that the performers are enjoying themselves. Bland is in top form on these cuts -- and that's saying a lot.
Those who have never heard Bobby Bland have missed out on one of the best reasons for living of which I am aware. His voice is impossible to describe without lapsing into seeming contradictions. For example, it's both smooth as silk and rough as sandpaper. It must be heard. Equally impressive, Bland always seem to have a deeply intuitive understanding of the songs he sings. He employs his remarkable voice with an all-too-rare intelligence. (In a sane world, everyone would know Bobby Bland and his work.) This CD is a good vehicle for hearing him.
I have a quibble about the selections made for this CD. Certainly, "3-O'clock Blues" and "Driftin' Blues" are about as good as it gets. I like both of these live versions better than any others I know. All of the cuts on this collection are worthy. Yet two cuts from the original source collections, Bland's best-ever rendition of "I'll Take Care of You" (which drives his audience crazy!)and an incomparably high-spirited rendition of King's blues anthem, "The Thrill Is Gone", are not included. As good as this CD is, it would have been better if they had been.
For someone who has never heard the original Bland/King "Together" collections, this CD should prove to be be a good purchase. It has most of the best material from those efforts and leaves out the few cuts which don't quite work. Serious blues enthusiasts might do better to purchase the earlier works. Still, "I Like to Live the Love" should enhance the collection of occasional blues fans, or those with more eclectic tastes, with a low-cost, high-quality CD that will bring much in the way of enjoyment.

Product Description
50 years ago, Johnny Ace entered pop history for all the wrong reasons. Playing a game of Russian roulette backstage in Houston on Christmas Day of 1954, Ace was felled by a single shot.
Ace had a great number of reasons to want to live, foremost among them being his career, which couldnt have been much hotter. Hed had a chart-topper with the song The Clock, and had scored several Top Ten R&B chart hits as well. Among his musical cohorts were such notables as B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, and Johnny Otis.
One can only wonder what Ace might have become, had he lived to be older than 25. Poised as he was at the junction of R&B and rock and roll, he might have joined Little Richard and Chuck Berry as one of the founders of rock. Instead, we are left with a few great sides, some dimming memories, and a lot of questions.

Customer Reviews:
One of America's great songwriters.......2001-03-09
Amid the Cole Porters, Irving Berlins and George Gershwins of the world, Harold Arlen tends to be forgotten. And yet, when the greatest song of the 20th century was recently voted on by a distinguished panel of critics, whose song came out on top? Mr. Arlen's (Over the Rainbow). Here is a superb cross section of Harold Arlen songs by a cast ranging from Judy Garland to Bing Crosby to Ethel Waters, spanning decades and spanning a wide range of styles, from jazz to ballads, poignant to funny. Although the sound is not ideal, as many of the recordings date from the 30's and Pearl's objective in remastering has always been to achieve the fullest musical sound rather than to reduce surface noise, this is a minor complaint given the rich and mind-opening selection of great music found here.

Customer Reviews:
So far....another masterpiece.......2007-03-17
I'm not one for writing long reviews, suffice to listening to this album has made me question the point of trying to write music. I will never be able to write a song like "21" or "Mr Lucky" or "Sinking Ship", and it almost demoralises me to hear them. Those of you who are prepared to make the effort (and like all Bobby Conn albums, you have to listen a few times before you start to appreciate them) will probably find about half the album to be mediocre and half to be almost too wonderful to bear.
Read some reviews written by those more thorough than I and you will get an impression of what you're in for- a cataclysmic miasma of styles, seamlessly integrating Jazz, Death Metal, Bubblegum Pop and Disco. The overwhelming opinion among my peers however, is that you'll either love it or hate it. There's no telling which, so you're just going to have to take the plunge and hope for the best.
My advice- listen to it three times before you form an opinion- this is not instant appeal; if you're lucky though you'll discover a musical world beyond that which you ever dreamt of hearing. You might find it abhorrent, or blissful. But one thing's for sure- you'll never be bored.

Near perfect compilation.......2005-01-27
Compilations are tricky affairs..to do one right, you've got to be willing to do the legal footwork to get the best material you can, instead of settling for what's "here in the vault". Rhino does its customary excellent job here, delivering great sound and good economy, with 16 worthy titles for your dollars.
Picking out highlights is tough because there really isn't any filler here: every one of these songs is above average. But especially prime cuts are Junior Wells' "Messin' with the Kid" (it appears they weren't able to find a master..static at the end indicates it was mastered from a vinyl source), Tommy Tucker's "Hi-Heel Sneakers", Lowell Fulson's "Tramp", Little Milton's "Grits Ain't Groceries", Z.Z. Hill's "I Need Someone", Rosco Gordon's "Just a Little Bit" and a fine blues from Little Richard on "I Don't Know What You Got (But it's Got Me)".
Probably the weakest cut on here is Albert Hill's "Trash Talkin'"..a mostly spoken number over a bluesy backing track that's a musical cousin to Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie". But to call it "weakest" points out the overall quality because it's by no means "bad".
This is a fine introduction for someone just beginning to dip their toe into the pool of 60s R&B and blues, although true adherents will probably have many of these already.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent solo debut!.......2006-04-21
Bobby Brown's departure from New Edition downgraded the quintet to a quartet. This 1986 solo debut of his spawned the Top 10 smooth smash GIRLFRIEND and later the Top 20 hit THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. New Edition continued as a quintet though, with Johnny Gill succeeding Brown. I always thought GIRLFRIEND was a beautiful slow love jam. Also,in '86,NE released their fourth album,UNDER THE BLUE MOON,filled with "oldies-but-goodies" covers. Brown rose to superstardom two years later with his second album DON'T BE CRUEL,a Grammy-winner. He also made headlines in publications like Star,National Enquirer,The Globe and National Examiner when he took the Grammy-winning diva Whitney Houston to be his lawfully wedded wife in 1992. The other songs are excellent.
Good first album for him; several funk-driven songs here!.......2005-04-08
I didn't hear this album until the mid-90s. I had been more onto Don't Be Cruel and the albums after it. But this album was a good first effort for Bobby Brown. I still like Girlfriend. But the rest of the album had some funky numbers. The Larry Blackmon songs for Bobby are heavy on the funk, a little of a Cameo sound added to Bobby's post New Edition style. There were some hints of the heavy funk that Bobby would give to Cruel two years later. Brown sounds more free form here than the limited appeal that he had in his former group.
A nice try for Bobby's first CD.......2000-12-06
B.Brown's first CD wasn't anything special. It was rushed and only had two singles Girlfriend and Girl Next Door. If this album had more ballads maybe it would have been better.
