One Of The Best R&B CDs .......2006-11-29

Normally I don't buy CDs from a singer or group that I've never seen or heard of before. I found this CD while I was browsing through other CDs of the same genre and decided to get it. It was definitely worth it!! These guys have such good vocal range and I really like the way they sing. With some CDs you have to listen to the songs over and over again to get into it, but not with this one. It's definitely worth getting!!

So I bought both their cds and was more than impressed! Some people are saying "change the lead singer" those people just dont get it, so let me enlighten you a little.
They wanted a more rough lead singer, it adds bass, monotone, yet quality and a soothing touch. They are an awesome group. Buy the Cd PERIOD!

Pretty Good Debut....Seriously Overlooked!!.......2004-08-05

Profyle came at a time when the R&B scene was flooded with male groups, some that are still here and some that are easily forgotten and could be a subject for "Where Are They Now?" Nonetheless, these guys put out an album that was seriously overlooked.

I initially saw the video for "I Ain't the One" and I thought, 'look at these guys biting off of Boyz II Men's "Pass You By" video'. I was like, oh Lord, they aren't going to do anything and their album will go plastic. Never judge a book by its cover though! After checking them out on Soul Train performing (lip-synching, really, as all Soul Train guests do) "Just Can't Get You Off My Mind", I had to pick up the album; I'm glad I did.

Profyle delivers with some nice lil' uptempo tracks that will leave your head bobbing. Check out "Too Shady" featuring a seriously overlooked female MC Cha Cha. She spits with some furor on a song that Profyle delivers well. "Somebody Like Me" has a hook and a chorus that is sick! It's terribly infectious and will have you headbanging in the club. lol. "I Ain't the One" is alright....it takes a few listens before it gets you moving.

As with all R&B quartets, Profyle has their share of ballads. but unlike most of their counterparts, they deliver well when it comes to the ballads. They croon something serious on the catchy "Lady", which is probably the strongest song vocally, showing off their church-bred vocals. Also worth mentioning is the classic Stevie Wonder song "Overjoyed". I heard these fellas sing this acappella and I mean, I was blown away. Their remake is probably one of the best I have heard. The title track "Whispers In the Dark" is quite charming. It's sexy but not too spicy and flows efforltessly without falter. Definitely check out the song "Make Sure You're Home", which features then-labelmate Joe in a lovely performance. The song's theme is Christmas, but the song can be enjoyed all throughout the year. And the aforementioned "Just Can't Get You Off My Mind" is a classic within itself, with it's powerful leads and strong production.

There are a couple of stinks on this album. We didn't need two versions of "I Ain't the One", the later one featuring a less-than-impressive rap cameo by Juvenile, who shouldn't've been so weak considering he was tight at the time. Also, some of the songs are just hard to get into even after listening to them more than once. "Kick It Tonight" is just blah, "Don't Be Trippin'" is just garbage, and "Can't Let Go" is uninspiring. Also, a good listen to this album will make you sick of lead singer L Jai's vocals. I mean, he has a good voice, it's just that I was looking forward to hearing more of the other members' voices and not continually hearing L Jai's whining.

Altogether, this album has something for everyone and could definitely be included in a collection. Check it out; it's worth a try!!!

I ain't even gonna front. This CD kinda HOTT.. better than any of the others that they have released prior to this one.. Granted they may not have major label exposeure right now. But this is an album to be reckoned with.. Tracks 1,2,3,4,11,12,13 are off the chain.. if you are a R&B person then you gotta cop the album.. some of you may recongize the song "Feelin This" from the movie released earlier this year " Motives" .. Again pick the album up if you into a good ole classic R&B jams that make you wanna get your freak on then this is a must have

Since i really like Stevie's "Overjoyed"...it was a surprised when i listened to Profyle's version.. i think it's a bit better than Stevie's :).. since it is sang in a more powerful rhytm&blues.. nicely updated... WITD and the rests are not out'a place...all are musicaly enjoyable..

Tryin' 2 Hard.......2006-12-05

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Profyle, they are really good singers and have good material but on this sophomore album they are just trying too hard to be street or hardcore. Their debut album Whispers In The Dark is a really good CD, but it's like they did a 180 for their second CD. They have changed a lot from their appearances to their material, becoming a lot more "ghetto" compared to the first CD. The second CD isn't all that bad, about half of it is listenable, the other half is mostly just skippable. If you were to get any of the Profyle CDs, I'd highly recommend their debut CD over their second CD.

Nothing But Drama Is Nothing New. 4/10.......2001-07-28

Profyle's first album "Whispers In The Dark" bombed in sales but Profyle made a comeback and just like their debute their second album "Nothin But Drama" also bombed. The album only served up one major hit. I really enjoyed their debute album but their new cd I really feel is the same old r&b that is manufactured and written by anyone but the artists.Well the best tracks on the album are "Liar", "(Can We) M.A.K.E.L.U.V.", "Damn", and "Nasty", actually all the songs are pretty good but this is your run of the mill r&b music. Liar is an extroidenary song but the album just didn't live up to the expectations of Motown records or my expectations. The guys can sing though and you should definetily check out their debute album it is much better.

Liar is one of the single greatest songs I've heard in a long time. If you like the deep rythmic R&B that made Dru Hill and BlackStreet popular.. you'll love this CD. Its honest melodic and so well performed that you cant help but wait for the Full CD to come out. Profyle might have possibly raised the bar just a bit for other artists here. ; )
