An indispensable and definitive collection showcasing the passionate genius of the late rapper. The album's nonchronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding; the 21 well-loved "hits," some slightly reedited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogizing of the late Notorious B.I.G.--a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. And, making its first proper appearance on a Tupac album, the B-side "Hit 'Em Up" stands as the most intense outburst of pure venomous rage ever captured on tape. Whether he's waxing political, philosophical, or just plain paranoid, Tupac's empathetic, charismatic style remains unmatched. --Charley GothicCustomer Reviews:

If you really like 2pac and rap, I would say skip this and buy each of his cd's instead. There still is some great material from him not on this CD
Every track is excellent, but there are some Missing.......2007-04-10
Disc 1:
1. Keep Ya Head Up - Incredible way to start the album
2. God Bless The Dead - Whether its about Notorious B.I.G. or not the song is amazing with a very creepy beat
3. Me Against The World - Very introspective
4. So Many Tears - Pac's darkest song ever
5. Hit Em Up - All my god!!! Calling this a classic diss to me is an understatement, even those other dudes ripped Bad Boy. By far the greatest diss song ever
Disc 2:
1. Brenda's Got A Baby - Was this a true story? on the music video that was on my resurrection DVD it said "Based on a true story" but someone else say it was made up. Well its a great song anyway
2. I Ain't Mad At Cha - Amazing Daz production and lyrics
3. Changes - Another very introspective track with a fantastic piano beat
4. Dear Mama - My absolute favourite Pac song ever!!! As you know, one of the reasons why many consider Pac the best rapper ever is because no one else could make a song like this. Look at 21 Questions by 50 Cent for example, he just sounds corny, this song is genious
5. Heartz Of Men - Some prime Pac lyricism with an excellent DJ Quik beat

Through lead-singer strife and domestic blisters, the Crüe have endured. Greatest Hits is a breather for the group and provides an opportunity to look back at the construction and destruction of this much-maligned multimillion-record-selling ensemble. Sure, much of what's here overlaps with Decade of Decadence, but we do get three tunes from Generation Swine ("Glitter" receives a tender remix) and an eight-panel foldout booklet with essays from each of the rug rats. Most important, two new tracks--"Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved"--feature golden-boy knob twiddler Bob Rock, who oversees two no-nonsense, no-electronics blasts through the candy-metal past. The future looks glam, indeed. --Martin PopoffCustomer Reviews:

The relief in their tear stained eyes is palpable. They want to live again. Just call me Dr. Feelgood. Got a drug dealing gang of toughs that won't turn on each other? Play "Enslaved" and they'll fold like Superman on laundry day.
Take it from me, you can count on the crew to make bad guys "Afraid."

Nice Lock of Hair-Just a Sampling of the Crue's Best.......2006-08-30
There are several of the favorite tracks over the bands' modestly long, admittedly choppy career. However, there are quite a few that were really good and funny like "She Goes Down" from "Dr. Feelgood" for example, that did not make the cut and others like the new "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved" that never piqued my interest. It's all there from their heyday and all the guys pitched in, if separately and apart from each other, with letters and messages to us and each other.
Motley Crue is living proof that if your band has an excellent drummer-Tommy Lee and talented bassist-Mick Mars and creative guitarist-Nikki Sixx, it doesn't matter what your singer sounds like, you can have a hit making band. However, loving Vince Neil as I do, no one can argue that his former stage presence and his vocals were well matched with the music as a whole. They are also an inspiration to their fans that have fallen into drugs and despair, by going through their separate recoveries and rebirths. All of us watching are hopeful for positive progress with Mick's illness. After all this time on the scene bands like this and their members feel like extended family and you just want to wish them the best.
After this last tour they all seemed to scatter and go on with other endeavors, but the new tour with Aerosmith ought to be a hoot. They all sweat a little more and there's more of them to love, but they are still rockin'.
I have to wonder about more great music we may missed out on and never got written because of all the interpersonal issues and private tragedies that ultimately caused them to fall apart. We will never know, but this is the ultimate snapshot of a better days in which we all received the great gift of their artistic talents,if only for a brief time.
Metaldiva Sez: Great addition to any hair metal collection. It is short and left many great hits out, but is still great to listen to and remember when our hair was blown 4 inches higher than our heads. Great music from a great time in this genre..Get it home today..

Is Run-DMC the most important group of the past 25 years? Well, if you believe that the rise of hip-hop is the most significant musical development in a quarter century, what other conclusion can you draw? Though they may not have been responsible for the birth of rap, the Hollis, Queens, trio represents the genre's coming of age. They were the ones who brought what was largely a regional street phenomenon to the masses. The rhymes, the beats, the style, the attitude--Run-DMC introduced it all to the world. Focusing mostly on the group's first three albums--each of them a cornerstone of rap music--this 18-track collection is a reminder of a time when rap enjoyed a kind of childlike innocence: their boasts are forceful but not angry; the beats are simple but exciting; the overall effect (fueled by heavy-metal riffs) is edgy and aggressive, but not violent or destructive. But most of all, it's fun. In the 1990s, rap artists would take Run-DMC's ideas to wide extremes, but the roots of this next generation--gangsta rap's street realism, political rap's social agendas, rock-rap's antagonism--are found right here. Run-DMC--like almost all pioneers from Elvis to Louis Armstrong--suffered a period of irrelevancy when they were looked upon as quaint or outdated, but, their time will come. Rest assured, this is not '80s retro kitsch. --Marc GreilsamerCustomer Reviews:

Run DMC - Greatest Hits.......2007-01-10
The production on this album is just crazy. That old school sound that sounds perfect on these songs. This album has 18 tracks, all classic RUN DMC songs. But back to the production, most of the beats are insanely dope. If you like old school hip-hop then youll love all these beats. Some beats that are standouts are.. "Its Tricky", "Beats To The Rhyme" (Love this beat), "Peter Piper", "You Be Illin", "Its Like That", "Sucker MC's", "Jam Master Jay" (RIP). These beats are top-notch and keep that real hiphop old school sound to it.
The lyrics are also good, just your typical old school hip-hop. I recommend this album to any Run DMC fans of course, and anyone who appreciates real hip-hop and old school hip-hop.
My Top 5 Songs
1.Its Tricky
2.Beats To Rhyme
3.Peter Piper
4.Sucker MC's
5.Jam Master Jay (R.I.P)
white guy review of the cd.......2006-12-25
There materials worked, at the time, because of the "cross over" nature of their songs. They injected a true rock sensibility into their raps. I wish more artists today would utilize guitars and real drums when rapping.
When you listen to this, the main theme of the music is FUN. This is roll down the windows, crank it up, sing along, songs.
The best songs are the ones that incorporate rock structure and pop culture. "Its Tricky", "Can you rock it like that", "My adidas", "Mary, Mary" and "You be Illin" are great.
The highlight is "Walk this Way". They took a song that was essentially a predecessor to rap and made it even more funky. I will challlenge any Aerosmith fan to a debate...if it was not for RUN DMC then Aerosmith would still be an obscure, over the hill group from the 70's. They made Aeromsith cool again! Run DMC's version is an improvement over Aerosmith's. This song is the ultimate party tune.
This cd belongs in any essential ROCK cd collection

1. So What'cha Want - 4/5 - Great intro song, but not the best.
2. Brass Monkey - 5/5 - Amazing song, the best song from their debut album.
3. Ch-Check it Out - 5/5 - Best song on the album, although MCA's voice sounds shot compared to some of the earlier songs. Also, I think the Just Blaze Remix is better if you can find that.
4. No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn - 3/5 - not one of my favorites, but its still pretty good.
5. Hey Ladies - 5/5 - Great song, really shows off the genious of Paul's Boutique.
6. Pass The Mic - 3/5 - The worst song on the album, although it's ok.
7. An Open Letter to NYC - 4/5 - Great tribute to NYC, but like with Ch-Check it Out, MCA's voice isn't as good as in the older songs.
8. Root Down - 4/5 - Great song.
9. Shake Your Rump - 4/5 - Another one from Paul's Boutique, although not as good as Hey Ladies.
10. Intergalactic - 5/5 - The first Beastie Boys song I ever heard, back when it came out in 98, great song.
11. Sure Shot - 4/5 - Great song, the only rap song I've ever heard that successfully incorporates a flute.
12. Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim Remix) - 5/5 - Takes the original, which was an ok song, and turns it into something sublime.
13. Triple Trouble - 4/5 - Great song, but it has the same beat as Rapper's Delight by Sugarhill Gang.
14. Sabotage - 4/5 - Great song, more metal than rap.
15. Fight for your Right - 5/5 - How can you not love this song?

The very epitome of "been there, done that," LL Cool J also has the distinction of having originated (or, at least, being the most proficient at) half a dozen rap styles. On the hits collection All World, all the phases are represented: he was "hard as hell" on 1986's "Rock the Bells" and again on 1991's "Mama Said Knock You Out"; on 1987's "I Need Love," he was the painfully sappy precursor to Boyz II Men, but he had the formula down pat for 1990's "Around the Way Girl" (and then he went sappy again on 1995's "Hey Lover," a collaboration with the Boyz); and 1988's "Going Back to Cali" found him stylin'. He's had his ups and downs and managed to produce only a couple of truly killer albums, but LL's first dozen years show that he's left his stamp on nearly every facet of the hip-hop world. --Randy SilverCustomer Reviews:

A Ten Year Span Of Greatest Hits (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-03-15
I do have a few guilty pleasures on this album. "Going Back To Cali" is one of them (possibly because of my love for that state). And the female songs like "Jingling Baby" the smooth "Hey Lover" is more that I had an enjoyment for. And the pop song that still gets play on the radio frequently "Loungin (Who Do You Luv Remix)" is another great addition. There are a few songs that are missing (just like almost every greatest hits album), like "Pink Cookies..." and "I'm That Type Of Guy", but I'm not going to sweat that. This album is still excellent for a ten year span of LL. If you're a fan of 80's and 90's rap, don't hesitate to pick this up here. I really started getting into him when he dropped "The G.O.A.T." and thought this CD would help me catch up with his earlier work. Now only if his most recent CD's were half as good as this here.
Peace!

Pebbles proved her herself capable and deserving of a lengthy
career in the Urban and Dance-Pop world. I feel like she gave up a bit too soon. Pebbles has a rare voice that very distingishable and enjoyable to hear. I can't wait for her to come back to recording! If Cher can come back about 10 times, Pebbles has the right to come back at least once! The grace, class, honestly, sophiscation, timeless, intelligence and lady-like attitude Pebbles exhibited is sorely missed by many! Nearly no Pop singer (in the U.S. that is) can come close to the charisma and natural charm she radiates. Pebbles never needed to look like a tramp and/or stray too far from the initial purpose music videos to get her point across. Thankfully, there are new, hard-working, no-nonsense Pop singers rising up such as Kimberly Locke, Anastacia, Dannii Minogue, Reina, Tina Ann, Fantasia, Samantha Mumba, Louise, Robyn and many more. So, there is a lot hope for her future. Not to mention, Pebbles helped pave the way for TLC (a group Pebbles created), Toni Braxton, Monica, Brandy, Faith Evans, Beyonce and other similar artists/singers. I give Pebbles the praise and the credit that is due to her. My favourite songs on this CD are the four #1 hits, the dynamic Dance-Pop songs "Girlfriend", "Giving You the Benefit", "Mercedes Boy" & the smooth Urban/Soul ballad "Love Makes Things Happen" feat. Babyface. My other favourites include her Top 40 R&B chart hit "Are You Ready?", the "That's the Way Love Goes" from Janet like "It's Alright", the would have been Adult Contemporary crossover smash hit, the low-key, slightly haunting ballad, "Angel" written by Pebbles herself among others! If you are looking for honest, straight-up, high quality Pop music, I highly recommend all of Pebbles' releases. Much thanks to her main producers Babyface, Andre Cymone and Pebbles ex-husband, L.A. Reid for bringing this fabulous lady of song to us! I hope to the heavens she records again! I also recommend music from Paula Abdul, Jody Watley, Cynthia, Karyn White, Lil' Suzy, and Laura Branigan.

A Timeless Talent With Beauty and Voice/ Big PEBBLES Fan!.......2004-07-05
I have seen the TLC Behind the music story on VH1 some time ago and to my understanding, there were some major disputes between the group and Pebbles. The girls(T-Boz, Chili, and Left Eye(Rest in love and peace, sister),decided to fire Pebbles as their manager because they felt she was being too "controlling" over the business and financial operations of their band. Granted,it was a difficult decision for TLC to make and carry through on, but it was what they felt would be in the best interest of their career. Pebbles also had her issues with former husband LA Reid, which was one of the main factors that drove them to a divorce. According to VH1's Behind the Music, Pebbles had such a feeling of betrayal and hurt from all the actions of all these people involved in her professional and personal life that she left the business and vowed to never return again.
I don't know Pebbles other than the music she made. What type of personality she has or whatever other people may say about her, the woman is very talented. Those who criticize her should take into consideration that when a person starts out in the music business or any business for that matter, it can reap many negative life experiences that we learn and grow from, especially if you are a woman. Sometimes those experiences, can cause us to project our professional attitudes as a veteran soldier, a "tough cookie",or to be more specific, a "B". Often, that seems to be the only way a business woman who owns and runs a business has to be in order to survive and not be run over by people who pretend to be out for her best interest. How far is too far? That's something only Pebbles and God can determine and judge for herself.
One of the reasons why I enjoy Pebbles music is because she has such a UNIQUE voice. An "innocently cute" but well seasoned voice is how I can best describe it. A voice that is not so commonly heard out there in the R&B world today. Like TLC, Pebbles encouraged women to have strength and wisdom in their character which you will find in her songs like,"Girlfriend," "Giving You The Benefit" and "Backyard". I also recommend her last CD "Straight From The Heart," lots of positive, socially conscious words on this CD. Some of my most favorite tracks on the CD are "Soul Replacement" "Long way to Travel", and "Happy". Nice songs to listen to, but they also make you THINK as well.
I just want to put my message/review out there to wish Pebbles all the best in her transition and life endeavors, but hope that someday she would reconsider coming back into the business and make another CD. Things happen for a reason and for a purpose no matter how hurtful or how discouraging things and people can be. But eventually we all heal and we go on in life regardless. Love and God can make things happen!
Pebbles, I love and respect you as an artist. I will always be a fan of yours even if you continue to stick with your choice of not coming back to the music scene again.

So-so, but worth a listen.......2007-05-07
greatest hits to say the least.......2007-04-03
half-filler .......2007-04-02
While half of the release lives up to its premise with choice cuts from B.I.G.'s brief but brilliant studio album output like "Juicy," "Hypnotize" and "One More Chance/Stay With Me," the other half is muddled with posthumously-released cuts that are more vehicles for guest artists like Nelly and Eminem than true Biggie classics.
Removing the layer of artist purity, one would expect radio hits like the massive tribute release "I'll Be Missing You" or duets like "Mo Money, Mo Problems" (with Diddy), especially since minor hits like Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Get Money" made the cut. But no, sadly, neither of the first two tracks are anywhere to be found, while the latter track and "Notorious Thugs" (with Bone Thgs-N-Harmony) made it onto the album.
This album is worth it if you're only passively interested in Notorious B.I.G.'s biggest radio hits (and don't mind paying for a lot of filler). Serious fans and B.I.G. beginners should seek out "Ready to Die: The Remaster" and "Life After Death" and call it a day.

Not again........2007-03-03
They did it again with this "Ultimate Collection." That being said, I love some of their other hits, especially "The way that I want to touch you." Luckily, the rest of the tracks are the originals. If you're looking for the original version of "You never done it like that", you would have to get the 20th Century Masters collection of theirs.

There's No Pleasure Like A Guilty Pleasure.......2005-05-15
"Ultimate Collection: The Complete Hits" is the most complete representation of the duo's hits you could possibly find. Indeed, most of us will be happy to hear songs like "Love Will Keep Us Together", "Muskrat Love" and "Do That To Me One More Time". And diehards who went and bought the actual albums rather than just singles will be happy to learn that forgotten radio staples like "Circles", "Song Of Joy" and "Wedding Song (There Is Love)". Contrary to one reviewer's critique on the album, the sound is excellent. Everything sounds splendid.
This is a must have album, but only if you're a fan. This duo certainly isn't for everyone, but people who like this type of music will pick this up immediately
Definitive collection.......2005-04-27
Among the earlier American hits here are Muskrat love (also recorded by the group America), Shop around (a cover of a Miracles song from the early sixties), Love will keep us together (their first American number one, written by Neil Sedaka) and Lonely night angel face (also written by Neil Sedaka). Circles, Can't stop dancing, Come in from the rain, We never really say goodbye and Disney girls are also wonderful, as are the covers of Wedding song (Petula Clark) and I write the songs (Barry Manilow).
If you enjoy the music of the Carpenters you will probably also enjoy Captain and Tennille's music. This is the best compilation of their music. Now, if only some record label will re-issue the original albums on CD - but that may be wishful thinking.
Scratching The Surface.......2005-01-26
In interviews during the 70s, Daryl Dragon made the observation that Tennille's musical tastes were extremely conservative. This inclination hobbled her gifts. She had difficulty recognizing what her voice was best suited for. The upbeat pop tunes the group favored were too insubstantial to support the incredible power of her voice. She either had to reign in her delivery or her projection blew out the bounds of these compositions. Dragon's playful approach-- Erasure-on-Venice-Beach-- didn't always support the earthy smolder of his wife's drawling diction, even if this approach did match the pop sensibility of the singles. In her solo ventures, Tennille's preference for Swing standards had her admirably fronting orchestral sections for live takes, but the wall of sound in the big-band arrangements competes with rather than supports her voice.
Tennille's voice was its own wall of sound. Her singing fared best with simple arrangements. Backed by a piano, or Hammond organ with bass and drums, or seasoned with brass flourishes: these organic sounds gave her the room to breathe that she needed. The material for her pipes was not upbeat ditties but bluesy, torchy songs like "Your Good Thing," "Never Make A Move Too Soon," "Since I Fell For You," "Love Me Like A Baby." Her timbre called out for a lyric of heartache, anger, betrayal, unrequited desire. She was, I think, a soul singer who didn't realize it. Her delivery was best informed not by Sarah Vaughn or Bobby Short but Ann Peebles or Dorothy Morrison. Capt & Tennille might have done better to looks less at California and Hawaii than at Memphis and Atlanta for the most fruitful sources of material. Dragon, a gifted keyboardist, didn't need sound gimmicks to provide the Charles Earland style soul backing that would have put Tennille's voice in its best setting.
Listening to their non-single album tracks, I can't help but wonder what heights they could reach if they tried their hand at covering not pop songs but soul songs. Their proven ability to pull off Isaac Hayes and even out-and-out dance in the smoldering "How Can You Be So Cold" suggest a southern soul outing would be an artistically successful change of pace.
