When I first heard the opening bars of "When A Man Loves A Woman" the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I got cold chills. This is simply the greatest love song in R&B/Soul ever. And when you put "Take Time to Know Her" together with it, even the feminists can listen happy. The years have not changed the great Percy and he is at his peak on this CD. Get it.

Excellent stuff!.......2005-09-09

I had been looking for the CD version of "Warm and Tenter Soul" for a very long time, since my dad has the album and I grew up listening to it. I was so happy when I finally found it, along with another one one Percy's albums attached as well -- two albums in one! Percy Sledge is truly a master at what he does best -- sing, sing, sing! Please, if you are a fan of this awesome entertainer then please check this CD out, you will not regret it. Every song is powerful and soulfully done.

The reason why this is under 2 bucks.......2003-10-25

This release is by Hollywood - HCD-102. I bought this for the title cut, "When a Man Loves a Woman" but I couldn't make it through the entire cut. This version lacks the gritty power and soul of the original recording. There is no warmth here - it sounds like Percy has sung this song way too many times and is singing this time in the lounge of the Holiday Inn. You may like it. The production values are OK. It's just not the original.

Buy Otis Redding and a compilation for "When a man loves ..".......2003-07-20

My Rating: 3.5/5 Only because "When a Man Loves a woman" is such a great song. (Scale can go over 5! 5 is just a standard)

This rating is decievingly high. The album is not that good. Percy Sledge seems to have lost his voice in the album and ends up sounding more like a hick named "Cletus." Ultimately this album is a mixed bag of unforgettable songs, pretty good songs, decent songs, and really bad songs, and bad covers. The album starts well with "I'll be your everything" which has a nice chorus exentuated by back up singers. The album then seems to get even better with the start of "When a man loves a woman:" a timeless classic not only for the music but for the perceptic characterization of foolish men in love. The Percy attempts to cover an old favorite sung by Otis Redding and Three Dog Night: Try a little tenderness. Percy Sledge actually does a decent job, but for this song I say listen to Otis. Unfortunately the album has a string of failures in "You Send Me" "Behind Closed Doors" "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" (a worse cover of a great Otis Redding Song) and "I've been loving you way too long." Surprisingly Percy Sledge makes a miraculous resurrection with "Take Time to know her" which sounds more like the title track, for which I bought the album. Following is another pretty good song "Warm and tender love" and a decent song "If loving you is wrong."
Overall my suggestion is this: If you want good soul music buy Otis Redding. If you want "When a man loves a woman" look for a compilation album...please please don't go buy Michael Bolton!
