Great Collection........2002-05-13

The title of the album is a little misleading because though this collection celebrates 100 years of music in the movies, the songs on this album only cover about a forty year period: late 1920s/early 1930s to the late 1960s. Nevertheless, this is a great collection of movie music. There are a few tunes, e.g. "Singing in the Rain" and "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" that most people are familiar with, but there are a lot of songs here that are hard to find and that most people haven't heard before, such as "Hi Lili Hi Lo" and "Kashmiri Love Song". The songs are taken directly off the soundtracks of the movies they are from which is a treat because you get to hear everyone from Rudolph Valentino, Mae West, Laurel & Hardy, Marlon Brando, Noel Coward, Harpo Marx, Cary Grant, Jack Nicholson, Bing Crosby, Marilyn Monroe, Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Bob Hope, James Cagney, Al Jolson, and Gene Kelly sing.Some of my favorite songs from the album are listed below.
