Vibe
Campbell has evolved into an assured (and yes, remarkably mature) stylist, capable of rising above the familiar formulas of his producers and giving their material a much-needed fresh spin.
Entertainment Weekly
Campbell's fourth effort is pure R&B: spare and sensitive.

"Excellent".......2007-01-13
The best greatest hits I've heard in a long time. Every song I wanted to hear was on this album. I played it once and have yet to put it down.
So good I had to look for it again.......2006-11-08
I happened to run into this CD shopping at Circuit City (a media store) and I instantly fell in love with it. Unfortunately, it got stolen, but it was so good, I wanted it back in my collection again. I haven't seen it in the store, but I was successful in getting it online. If you're a Tevin fan, this CD is a must have. I'm only 21, so I was definitely in elementary school when he came out, but I still remember and love all his songs. You won't be disappointed!
The Best of Tevin Campbell.......2006-03-22
IF ONLY TEVIN WAS TEVIN LIKE HE WAS BACK IN THE DAYS.. BUT THIS ALSO IS A GOTTA HAVE
Sucko, Sucko, Sucko!!!!.......2006-03-07
I hate the song, "Tell Mw What You Want Me To Do". That is the whinniest, suckiest song I've ever heard. When I was a child, I heard it, and they played it on the radio non-stop. Needless to say, that has scarred me from ever listening to the radio again, fear of that song coming on. He sucks, and I just wish he and his albums would disappear. That's what I want him to do!!!!
Overview of Tevins 4 albums.......2004-05-23
The only people who are gonna be disappointed by this set are Tevins hardcore fans who are always gonna cry about some obscure album track favorite of theirs that wasn't included. This is a real nice overview of Tevins 4 album career, and a good item to own if your generally into your modern R&B.
Tevin throughout showed a lot of skills & promise, and here we find him hooking up with major players like Quincy Jones, Prince, and Babyface. However for me Tevin was at his best in 1999 with his 4th (and probably final) album 'Tevin Campbell', a mature set from a grown man finally free to record serious material. However this album isn't covered as much, I'd recommend that album as a cool companion to this collection of earlier work. Tevin has disappeared from view since he got busted like George Michael by an undercover cop, but I hope this kid makes it back, this is 2004 we got to be adults & love everybody.

I love the CD. I received it in a timely manner.
Love It!!!!.......2007-01-09
Now what pre-teen/teenage girl during this era wasn't in love with Tevin Cambell? Despite his outcome, hands down, the boy sang some great tunes! Brought back childhood memories, played it for two months straight alongside "T.E.V.I.N!"
Very strong follow up from a strong singer.......2006-12-10
Tevin Campbell emerged as a true soul singer with I'm Ready, his second album. The Texas native had the good fortune of working with some of the best producers and writers in the business to construct an excellent work. The first single, "Can We Talk," was written and produced by Babyface and his longtime partner, Daryl Simmons. Behind a percussive rhythm track and a sensuous melody, Campbell patiently steps into the lyric, but soon bows to an urgent cry. The infectious chorus has a timeless ring and there's no secret as to why it held the number one spot on the R&B charts for three consecutive weeks. "I'm Ready," was another strong song. The two singles to follow were "Always in My Heart" and "Don't Say Goodbye Girl." The former romances the heart with its comforting melody and supplicating lyric, while the latter is a mid-tempo number with a romantic lyric insulated with a pop texture. Prince, whose credit is listed as Paisley Park, also gives the project a funky edge with the unreleased numbers "Uncle Sam" and the grooving ballad "Shhh." There is much to savor on this album.
TO PUT IT SIMPLY,A GREAT ALBUM.......2006-08-18
This CD is a MUST have for R&B lovers, especially if you are into 90's R&B.
Tevin did it with this Cd.I was 13 when this CD came out,and today at age 27 I still knocc it when I am with a Lady friend. This is baby making music at its best. The song "SHhhh" is one of my all time favorite get freaky Jams.
This CD is a great investment.
Tevin Campbell is still one of the great's.......2006-05-27
I grew up listening to Tevin Campbell and even years later consider this ablum to be amongst the great R/B albums of the 1990's. I hope that Tevin campbell will come back to the music seen. His talent is sorely missed.

My "T.E.V.I.N" review.......2006-08-08
The first time I heard a Tevin Campbell song, I know what an extraordinary talent he was. He has such a grand voice. So often, people blessed with great voices such as his have little or no control of their vocals. Not Tevin Casmpell. He has really good control of his voice and knows when to hit which note. He has an impressive debut LP. The producers (who included Al B. Sure, Qhincy Jones and Prince) did a nice job, even though many of his songs sounds dated. Usually this is a big deterent when trying to enjoy an older album, but it was not a big problem. The sound of this album actually took me back to the time it was released (1991).
"Just Ask Me To", "Lil Brother" and "She's All That" all have similar sounds: they all sound very dated. I didn't really enjoy none of these songs, they just sounded like fillers. "Confused", on the other hand, is a very nice song. I enjoyed every second of this song. I love the arrangement of the chorus, how the notes fluctuate. Vocally, this song is also wonderful. "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" is another album highlight. This is an excellent song throughout. The production, lyrics, and naturally, the vocals, are all something to remember. Tevin lets his talent simply shine on this song. His falsettos will just make you melt. Tevin has a song on here entitled "One Song". This is another impressive number. This song is about how one song can change the world. "Round and Round" was produced by musical genius Prince. This song has the typical Prince sound. Anyone who is even remotely familiar with Prince knows that when he produces a song, people will know it simply from the sound. "Perfect World" is a cute love song. The chorus is worth mentioning; "Since I met you, it's such a perfect world..."
I really enjoyed this album. It's nice to know that you can put music like this in and be reminded of earlier times in your life.

Tevin and I are around the same age, and I remember listening to this tape over and over again. I particularly like Strawberry Letter 23, and Tell Me What You Want Me To Do, and One Song. It seems that everyone forgot about Tevin when Usher came along, but thats okay, I will still continue to listen to Tevin Campbell. I don't like the songs they come out with now a days. I will continue to represent the old R&B songs.
He's All That.......2005-12-13
It recently occurred to me that one reason middle aged white music fans (of which I am one, I gotta admit) don't particularly care for contemporary R&B is that it is not funky and raw the way that we understood the best black music to be back in the 60s and 70s. We admired the blues because it was raw and vital. And even if we recognized that Atlantic and Motown soul were considerably slicker, they were still direct and emotive and ultimately more powerful than almost anything else on the top 40 playlists of the era.
Somewhere along the line, R&B became a lot less about R and only vaguely connected to the B. It was as slick and as studio oriented as much of the product of contemporary white artists. Clearly it was sassier and more street smart than most of the other stuff we were hearing on the radio. But by then, we old guys had pretty much abandoned the radio anyway, and were more likely to hole up with our old Aretha or Tina albums than we were to listen to the newer artists--or for that matter to even listen to most of the newer Aretha or Tina albums.
It's very easy to become and old fuddy duddy. All you have to do is live long enough. But it's also a good exercise to at least occasionally explore music you might have otherwise ignored or abandoned. Whenever I listen to urban R&B of the past 15 years or so, I am often surprised by it. The production is slicker, the arrangements more sophisticated, and the songs more frankly sexual than what we used to call R&B. But it still works, and even if there are few divas to rival Aretha (just wait a millenium or two), the singers are much more powerful and emotive than I ever would have guessed.
Take Tevin Campbell, for example, I do recall hearing the name in the early 90s, but I don't think I was even aware that his popularity soared and then diminished precipitously as he matured. (And, yes, after reading some of the postings here, I realize that that may have had a lot to do with some personal "troubles"--some of which, in this supposedly enlightened age, should never have been so troubling.)
But anyway, what a voice! The adolescent "Tevvy Tev" of this record had a remarkable range. He opens this album with a Prince song, "Round and Round," which evokes Prince but does not slavishly imitate his phrasing. The wail that begins and ends the song sounds almost primitive, like a call to a tribal gathering. A remarkable performance for so young an artist.
And speaking of his age (14 to 15) at the time of this recording, there is a youthful buoyancy to most of these tracks that is refreshing and quite honest. For the most part, he sings as if he's 15 and not 30. A playful song like "Little Brother"--featuring singer Tyler Collins in the role of the unattainable exotic SEVENTEEN year old he's pursuing--plays off his youth in an lively, exuberant way. Tevin sounds irrepressible and just a little cocky. And that's part of his appeal throughout.
And he can just as handily take on a love-and-brotherhood Alan and Marilyn Bergman showstopper like "One Song" and imbue it with depth and meaning that many adult singers could never muster. Ideals that might sound a little schlocky expressed by a more mature singer sound just about right (and a heck of a lot less naive) when sung by a younger artist.
Like so many R&B records of the 80s and 90s, this record splits up production duties, and this time they're divvied up among some of the greats, including Quincy Jones and Narada Michael Walden. The 15 year old Tevin Campbell was indeed lucky to win the patronage of such accomplished producers. There is nothing splotchy about the album (unlike many records with multiple producers at helm at different times): it flows beautifully. About the only production touch (or was it an artist's whim?) that I would disagree with is the jokey ending to "She's All That." Cute the first time, the "Hefty Bagd full of chips" line loses its charm after the first couple of hearings, and this bit of adolescent silliness really is NOT the way to close out an album that otherwise showed great polish and maturity.
This album takes me back.......2005-05-28
I have always loved this album. The song "confused" brings me back to middle school when I was very much in a confused time. I would play this album over and over. It brings a smile to my face and tears to my eyes, I think about how far I have come from then until now. Somethings I thought I wouldn't survive, but I'm still here today. Thanks, Tevin Campbell for the contribution you made in my young life with this album. I was totally crushed on you. I loved your singing and would love to see you come back. I'm now going to order this cd from amazon so I can take a stroll down memory lane. How sweet it is!

I love this CD! The choice of songs are great. I can't wait to get into my car and play the songs over and over. I can't help but sing the words all day long....
"GIMME LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE--CRAAAZY LOVE!".......2002-07-03
What can I say? This is Outstanding. It has something for both men and women. Most of the tracks are for WOMEN; however, I think when a man sees "his lady" happy, he's happy too, right? Ha. There are some sultry female voices for men too though: tracks 10, 12, 13, and especially track 16 by the late, great Aaliyah. Every relationship needs music like this. I think BODY AND SOUL: NO CONTROL (SENSUAL SOUL COLLECTION) would be perfect to listen to BEFORE you see your loved one. Whether you work from home or on the commute home from the office, it is Sure to Loosen you up and make you feel, um, Romantic. Dancing to the music together or alone for your loved one, would be very pleasing and stimulating for both.
I love all the songs but must say what drew me was the first song. I heard it in the store and I was in a hurry--definitely not planning on buying anything; but as soon as I heard it, I closed my eyes and was Lost in the music. I felt myself Smile. MUSIC THAT DOES THAT TO ME IS A NO-BRAINER--IT IS GETTING PURCHASED! What cinched the sale was seeing the song, "I'll Make Love to You" by BoyzIIMen--I've Always loved that song.
Now that I've had time to listen to it all, my favorite tracks are: 1, 3!, 5, 7, 8!, 9 (I dedicate this song to my special someone!)16 and 17; however, I love every track! Get this and discover your favorites. There are no bad songs, no filler songs here. All the music is original songs by the original artists and digitally mastered for the best sound quality. My stereo system is happy and so am I.
To sum this up, in a word--YOWZA! (Good word! Ha.)
Soar Together,
Soaring Heart

A album in part ,before its time.......2007-06-06
This album has a hint of what they call neo-soul and the world was not ready. He worked with peole like Babyface for the everyday r&b and people like Rahsaan Patterson for the neo-soul. Check it out
even though it's over ten years old..........2007-05-29
"could it be" and "beautiful thing" have always had that classic appeal, could be on the radio even today as a new track... and make the c.d. worth having in your r&b collection.
Praise Of A Real Artist.......2005-10-30
Even though, I have yet to purchase, Back To The World, I've heard quite a few of the cuts, and if they are any indication, of the entire package, then it must be a real keeper. Back To The World, alone, is incredible, not to mention, Could You Learn To Love, which is a throwback to a time when music was about something. A good lyric, for one, was valued, and an artist, such as Tevin Campbell, with that incredible voice, would be at the top of the game. Today, anything will due, and as a result, the music has suffered. Tevin, again, doesn't disappoint. The songs, at least the ones I have heard, and or sampled, are indicative of what Mr. Campbell, as an artist, is truly able to do. I'm just waiting to get paid, but as soon as that happens, I plan to make a buy. I don't know where I was when, Back To The World, came out, but being the fan, that I am, I don't know how I could have missed it. Anyway, based on what I've already heard, it's worth every penny.
OK.......2005-04-30
This album is Tevin's third installment. He previous albums was well accepted and sold well. This album (Back to the World) was a coming of age album. Tevin had reached maturity and he voice had evolved. What was kinda of funny was I seen him perform Tommorrow on a tribute show to Quincy Jones and he totally changed the way he sang it because his voice had changed. I think he did a terrific job on that and on Back to the world.
Great CD but the end was near.......2005-04-12
After releasing one of the best sophmore CD'S in history and approaching his early twenties, Tevin Campbell had a lot to prove. Back to the World is where Tevin Campbell returns as a man, ready to prove that he is no longer the child prodigy of yesteryear. For the most part, he succeeds in establishing himself as a vocalist of prodigious talents and significant worth. Of course, it was clear even in his earliest recordings that he was something special - a vocalist that could sing with a sweet, easy grace but remain soulful and not cloying in the slightest. No matter how Campbell tries to phase out that sweetness on Back to the World - after all, one of the first steps of maturity is to shed your childhood affectations - he retains that appealing quality, which makes the album all the more endearing. That's not to say that the uptempo cuts don't work. On the contrary - they are state-of-the-art pieces, thanks to the talents of producers like Puffy Combs, whose "I Need You" is a semi highlight. The ballads are the CD'S strong point Could You Learn To Love and I'll Be There were easily two are of the singer's strongest ballads ever recorded. But the key to the record's success is how Campbell grows and matures without sacrificing his gift for pure sweet contemporary soul. Back to the World is proof positive that the teen idol is now

Customer Reviews:
Tevin is not just known for the goofy soundtrack!.......2007-01-14
That is a very ridiculous statement. He's had 5 number one singles and neither of them were off the Goofy soundtrack. That person is mistaken.
He was nominated for many grammy's neither had anything to do with the Goofy Soundtrack. This person didn't know about Tevin before goofy... sorry for them!
If Tevin had decided against the braids on his Back to the World album the ladies would have bought it. But the change in his appearance shocked many of his fans. The Wholesome Tevin was gone. His arrest in 2000 for the unthinkable, sealed the deal as far as his career was concerned. If he could go back and change his hairstyle and arrest he would have been a bigger star than Usher.
I liked this album was very much. Tevin's voice matured on this record. I love all the songs on it. But I'm Ready will be his best album until I hear his new material this year. Prayerfully he has gotten his life together and will be an even better artist than he was a decade ago... And boy, was he ever amazing then!!!! And quite handsome too!
It's Worth It.......2006-11-02
I guess you could say, I'm a Tevin Campbell fanatic, at least in reference to his talent and music. Vocally, he's one of the best, and obviously, knows a great song. I love his choice of music, which is why, I'm quick to buy anything that he puts out. And just as "I'm Ready," "Tevin Campbell," is an absolute gem. Every song, is memorable, and he sings, with the ease of a pro. But what else, would you expect from, Tevin Campbell? Anyway, I love the CD, and strongly suggest it, to anyone who doesn't already have it. It's a must have, and trust me, you won't be disappointed. I still listen, as if it was released, yesterday. And "Don't Throw Your Life AWay," will absolutely, blow your mind. When I first heard it, it was as if, it was written especially for me. I was going through a lot, and boy, did it help. It gave me, a new attitude. Thank you Tevin, for such consistency, and I'm still waiting, for that next CD.
Average at best.......2005-04-12
By the time 1999 rolled around, Tevin Campbell had been replaced by Usher as the next big young voice in R&B. One would have thought that in his quest to reclaim in his throne that he would've enlisted top ballad teams at that time such as Babyface, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, R.Kelly but for some reason maybe he was broke he chose no name producers on this CD which is why it didn't sell. The only song that really stands out is For Your Love.
Nearly as perfect as T.E.V.I.N........2004-12-31
This album to my suprise was quite a treat. After getting a promo copy because I secretly liked Another Way, somehow I ended up letting the whole album play. The result is years later I long to hear some of the art on this album. though very slept on he has 2 of the most beautiful songs I could imagine on this album. I am sorry I cant think of another word for a song such as for your love. That song melts my heart like butter. as long as it is I always could stand to hear it one mo gin. and dandelion, though I laughed at the thought of a woman being compared to what is the equivalent of a weed but the music is enchanting and new. its a creative sound that works perfectly for Tevin the lyrics are beautiful and once you hear it you wont forget. Tevin riffs like the professional that he is, making the breaks and intros just as soulful as the lyrics. the rest of the album is good enough to play but believe me you wont want to miss out on "For your love" or "Dandelion" if you truly know the talent of Tevin Campbell
OKAY.......EXPECTED MORE........2004-12-21
Tevin Campbell use to be one of my favorite male singers but what happened to his career. This album is just okay but I think the real problem was the promotion behind it. Even though the first single which was titled "Another Way", got a lot's airplay, it wasn't enough to put him back into the runnings with other male R&B stars. His first two albums got him famous but this album and his third didn't make a dent on the charts. Overall, due to the scandals and tabloids, this talented young man's career is over.

Campbell Shows Some Flashes of Vintage King of Pop........1999-11-10
Remember back in the good ol' days when Michael Jackson still wore the sequined white glove and blessed us with some of the most infectious dance tunes ever put to vinyl? If you want to relive those days 90s style, please take a look at this song. Campbell laces this little funk ditty with controlled soul that cannot help but remind you of MJ.
FABULOUS!.......1999-09-29
