3 out of 5 stars I'll Always love me some Patti LaBelle.......2007-06-25

I like this CD because it is Patti. Although I was not moved (spiritually) as I have been from previously sung gospel tunes by Patti. Patti this purchase was to support you, even though I was looking for newer material.

5 out of 5 stars It's really the gospel According to Miss aretha Franklin!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-21

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!!.......2007-04-04

Ms. Patti's voice is as strong as ever and she is putting these bitches Beyonce and all these other sluts to shame with her amazing belting range. The F5's on Did you pray today were effortless and amazing. The G5 on Where love begins was strong fresh and unlike alot of singers she can clearly phrase her words when doing high notes! A5 on anything was out of this world! She held it in head voice then belted it!! then the amazing B5 pn More than He Loves you was...........WOW! All in all this album is great!!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Maybe The Wait Was Too Long.......2007-04-03

It is amazing that The Legendary Patti Labelle waited so long to record a gospel album. I mean I have been to a dozen of her shows and when the gospel starts pouring out of Patti's voice she can't be stopped and the house is jammin. She is so spiritual and I remember she said on the Oprah show in 1997 that she was working on her gospel album as we speak but who knew it would take 9 years to finish. I love Patti but the production on this cd is weak. Her voice is not on the front lines as it should be. I wish her better producers becuase she still has it!!!

2 out of 5 stars Patti's Generosity is Better Than The Material.......2007-02-21

Patti Labelle's unusual and soaring voice certainly wasn't used to its fullest advantage on this much anticipated CD. She is constrained and set way, WAY down in the mix and doesn't sing the gospel as much as she does the inspirational thing with a couple of gospel singing celebrities. Perhaps a live turn with this singer and some more traditional material we could have been gifted with something that could compete with Aretha's and Gladys's gospel CD's. "Walk Around Heaven" is an old time gospel standard that needed to be beefed up. She softens it with a soft second soprano infused background that ruins the effect of the lyric. The duet with CeCe Winans (Walk Away) is interesting with its dialouge interplay between the two women. The best thing about this project is that the essence of the gospel message is seen (if not heard) in Patti's donation to cancer research. God Bless Patti Labelle for her grand gift. Musicaly, this is a major disappointment.

More Than a New Discovery, Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, and New York Tendaberry established Laura Nyro as one of the early 1970s' brightest and most uncompromising singer-songwriters. But just as the budding success of 1969's Tendaberry seemed to establish her persona in the public's mind, Nyro reached back to the beloved Brill Building pop, doo-wop, and '50s R&B for inspiration, extended a hand in partnership to then-down-on-their-luck soul vets LaBelle, and tossed off this loving blast from the past. Producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (who would later formulate the vaunted Philly soul sound) were ostensibly in charge, though the voices of Nyro and LaBelle carry the day. Whether the bare-bones production harked back to the mindset of Nyro's moody Tendaberry or (as Amy Linden's new liner notes suggest) they simply ran out of time and had to finish the project, there's a sense of immediacy to the recordings that outstrips even some of the originals. Tracks like "Jimmy Mack" and "I Met Him on a Sunday" feel like they spontaneously came together around an upright piano, their rhythm section a chorus of joyous hand claps. Others, like "Desiree" and "The Wind," have a haunting, ethereal sense that's pure Nyro. This is one of the oddest collections of Nyro's career, but also one of the most joyously heartfelt. This reissue features four live bonus tracks, soulful solo covers of "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," "O-o-h Child," and "Up on the Roof," that fit the theme of the studio album to a T. --Jerry McCulley

Album Description

1971 album is Nyro's only album of non-original music including 'Spanish Harlem', 'Monkey Time/Dancing In The Street' and 'Jimmy Mack'. Remastered & featuring the previously unreleased live bonus tracks 'Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing', '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman', 'O-o-h Child' & 'Up On The Roof'. 2002.

5 out of 5 stars Laura Nyro "Gonna Take A Miracle".......2007-04-01

This CD Is Just As Wonderful As I Remember It Being Over 30 Years Ago.

As Always A Pleasure.

5 out of 5 stars Laura was a great artist.......2006-11-10

This CD captures the real Laura, soulful and able to deliver a tune like nobody before or since. Her song " It's gonna take a miracle" should resonate with anyone who has ever loved someone.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Before The Miracle Happens.......2005-12-30

Laura Nyro was stunning in every respect - singer, composer, performer. Nobody hung it all out to dry quite like Laura Nyro. Eli and the Thirteenth Confession is a landmark album, as is New York Tendaberry. This effort stands apart, a nostalgic tribute to the pop classics Nyro grew up loving.

The bare bones recording and choice of LaBelle for background vocals are both inspired decisions, making for an effect that is casual and authentic. Chilling a cappella renditions of Desiree and The Wind offer a spiritual beauty, while Monkey Time and Dancing In The Street deliver feel good funk. (Plenty of vocal gymnastics from Patti LaBelle on those two in particular.) The bonus tracks seem to be taken from a college concert and include interesting renditions of classics like Up On The Roof, Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thing, and others.

If you are only going to own one Nyro CD, it should be Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. If you want a quirky minor masterpiece, this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Blast from the Past.......2005-12-15

If I hadn't watched 'A Home at the End of the World' I would have hardly remembered LaBelle or Nyo. As it happened, it brought back floods of memories fro mmy youth and out came also the old Carol King songs to be listened to again.

Good, that such quality cannot be beaten.

5 out of 5 stars Powerhouse Vocals and plenty of Soul too !.......2006-10-15

Having seen Labelle in concert a few times and owning most of these titles on LP AND CD. I can tell you ,they were a musical force to be reckoned with. To this day, I have yet to find a "soul" female vocal trio that can stand up to these powerhouse ladies.
Nightbirds has the signature tune "Lady Marmalade",but also offers up many more outright soul-satisfying funk tunes such as "What Can I Do For You?"( a personal favorite),"Are you lonely" and "Somebody Somewhere"
Labelle also backs up Laura Nyro on "Gonna Take a Miracle " - check it out !

5 out of 5 stars Labelle (Nightbirds).......2006-05-28

Of the many female vocal groups I've heard over the years in any category, Pop, R&B, Gospel etc. None in my opinion could out sing this group. Patti, Nona, and Sarah Known as Labelle, All strong vocalist and even stronger as a group. This CD display's their strong tight harmony and blended voices with excellent music arrangement's and Production. A classic R&B CD.

5 out of 5 stars Down In Ole' Moulin Rouge!.......2005-04-17

On 1974's 'Nightbirds' Patti,Nona and Sarah all make it clear that when it comes to stanky, sweaty New Orleans R&B and funk they will be the undisputed female champians!"Lady Marmalade" was of course Labelle's big breakthrough single and likely what they'll always be remembered for but the trio also deliver several other funky tunes in a similar vein such as the title track,"Don't Bring me Down","All Girl Band" and "Somebody Somewhere" and these gals truely give the music their all.Patti Labelle and Nona Hendryx never have belted out stronger then they do here and Alen Toussaint's organ and horn heavy arrangements give every song here, even the two ballads a big, punchy sound. But it's not a disco thing-it's all about that hefty rhythm and alot of funkiness.A superb place to introduce yourself to Labelle if you already haven't and just a damn great CD to have!

5 out of 5 stars Labelle at its best.......2005-01-31

This is the quintessential Labelle album. I also love their farewell album, Chameleon but Nightbirds is the album that solidified their success. Who can forget Lady Marmalade? Although that is their most commercially successful hit, there are so many other classics on this album. The whole album is good, from start to finish. If you wanna dance, listen to Somebody Somewhere, Don't Bring Me Down, What Can I Do For You and Spacechildren. If you want to hear Nona's introspective lyrics about what was going on society at that time, listen to Are You Lonely. The more passionate (and slightly erotic) side of Labelle is evident in You Turn Me On. Other hits include It Took A Long Time, the title track and All Girl Band. This is true soul music...pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Labelle Delivers The FUNK!!.......2005-01-20

Hey
I listened to this cd on my Launchcast radio and had heard almost all of the songs when i decided to buy it. My favortie songs are: LADY MARMALADE (classic) SOMBODY SOMWHERE (Funky man funky) WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU (Disco beats) NIGHTBIRDS (slow jam) YOU TURN ME ON (the line "I come like a pouring rain, each time you call my name" always makes me smile)
They were the HOTTEST group in the 70s and I wish i could have seen them perform. I hear their stage shows were fascinating! I'm glad i have the cd to live back in the 70s everytime i hear it. So if you like funk/soul/disco all roled into one then buy this cd you won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars La Belle Supreme.......2007-03-13

One of the grande dames of music, and one of the greatest voices! From the sexy "Lady Marmalade" to the irresistable dance beat of "Stir It Up", this CD gives every fan's ears a feast. Gotta add this one to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars How can you not love Patti?.......2007-02-07

Patti LaBelle is not my normal type of genre that I listen to, but how can one resist getting this CD with some great songs such as "If You Ask Me To", "Oh, People," as well as the classic "Lady Marmalade."

Great singer, great voice, great personality...now, I just want to see her live in concert.

5 out of 5 stars Patti Labelle - Great Songstress.......2006-08-24

This is a great collection of hits. It includes a good mixture of some of her more recent songs and some of her older hits. I truly enjoyed it.

4 out of 5 stars I would have picked different songs, but it's still all good!.......2006-03-25

I hold Patti LaBelle in the same regard as many hold Barbra Streisand - she to me is THE VOICE. No one can do what Patti can do. I have never heard a woman who has a genuine "third" voice to her range (in men they call it falsetto), and it is truly exhilarating to hear her do a glissando from a low note all the way up to the very top of her range and split your speakers wide open!!! NO ONE ELSE CAN DO THE BLEEP PATTI DOES!! She is amazing!

I only give this CD 4 stars because I have issues with the tracklisting. In my opinion, Greatest Hits CDs should contain only HITS, not filler. And The Bluebelles never really had a major hit anyway. I think she should have had it all PATTI SOLO, with the lone exception being of course "Lady Marmalade" with LaBelle (ya gotta have that!)

Patti had 13 Top Ten solo R&B hits at the time this cd came out and I think that they should have been the focus of this cd and ALL should have been included.

Also, final point, is that it is odd that Patti didn't include a new song on this cd as most people do nowadays - throwing a new song on a Greatest Hits cd to make it extra special! Fact is, this CD wa released in conjunction with Patti autobiography, Don't Block The Blessings, and I think that song, which appeared six months later on FLAME, should have finished off the CD, coming right after one of my favorites, "When You Been Blessed (Feel Like Heaven)".

COLLECTORS - Take note, there are 3 single versions here: Tracks 8, 15, & 16 are the single mixes. So that makes it kind of cool, but I think all the songs here should have been the hit single mixes cuz you can fit more songs that way. But that's just me.

All hail PATTI LABELLE, she is the TRUE DIVA!

4 out of 5 stars You'll find your faith again............2004-12-10

The movie was outstanding, the soundtrack just as good. Steve Martin stars as a burned-out charlatan evangelist who comes to a town that hasn't had rain in a long time. Martin finds his own faith throught the course of the plot. You'll find yours just listening to the soundtrack. The CD opens up with Don Henley's "You better sit down" which surprisingly made the charts. Patti Labelle and Edwin Hawkin's "Are you ready for a Miracle" was probably the most stunning piece of the whole album, but all the music is upbeat and heartening. One minus was the instrumental music was not included.

4 out of 5 stars Disappointing, but contains some gems.......2004-10-31

Disappointing, mostly because this CD contains different (and inferior) versions of many of the songs in the movie. Nevertheless, it contains a couple of gems. In particular, the Patti Labelle version of "Are You Ready for a Miracle" is so powerful that one listen could make Osama fall on his knees and praise Jesus.

3 out of 5 stars The Incidental Music Is Not On This CD.......2004-03-21

Like the other reviewer of March 2000, I was hoping that the exceedingly beautiful background music would be included, but it wasn't and I don't know why. Not everyone loves Gospel. I am not religious, and I'll listen to Gospel music in a movie, but I certainly won't listen to it on purpose!

The best music in this movie which I watched a dozen times just to hear it is near the end when the rains finally come to the parched, drought-forever town. It simply gives you goose pimples. This CD is like the score to "The Horse Whisperer", if you're not careful (like me) you ended up with nothing but country singing, not knowing there was a 2nd CD made with Thomas Newman's spectacular score! The producers of movie score CD's should know there's two types of customers: those who like songs and others who like just the instrumental background music. They lose the latter market if they don't pay attention.

5 out of 5 stars Never thought I would like Gospel music!.......2003-12-13

Excellent CD to go along with an excellent movie.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gospel Soundtrack.......2003-04-08

This is a rare occasion that Hollywood would put out a movie with a great gospel soundtrack. If you haven't seen the film, you're missing out on a special treat. It's about a man who loses faith and finds it again. Hollywood has the ability to make good films, but they only come around once in a while. I believe that any old-fashioned Christian will really enjoy this soundtrack. It's the best fun you can have of this quality. It's quality comes from the talent of Cliff Eidelman who composes works for 'Alien Trilogy,' 'Free Willy 3,' 'Star Trek VI,' 'A Simple Twist of Fate,' and 'My Girl 2.'

'Change in My Life' sung by John Pagano, has been recorded by artists "Rockapella." You remember the Maxwell House guys from their album, 'Don't Tell Me You Do.' An uplifting song that will bring joy and hope to the broken hearted. It's soulful melody and smooth rhythms will rock you away to Heaven. Meat Loaf who stars in the movie and sings 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light.' Others to compliment the album are the talents of Don Henley (The Eagles), Patti LaBelle, in her best guest appearance and Wynnona Judd. Rounding it out is Jazz scene's own George Duke. And, Black Gospel's top lady Albertina Walker singing 'Blessed Assurance.' The most exciting of the film at the end when the rains come and the people are celebrating. It just puts the Holy Spirit all through you. Cliff Eidelman does a great job of putting this soundtrack together. You can check out more of his work in, 'Now and Then' and 'One True Thing.' If you like more of great gospel music done by top artists may I suggest 'The Apostle-[Sountrack]' from the film starring Robert Duvall. I just know you'll be changed after hearing this.

5 out of 5 stars A Patti Classic.......2006-11-15

Def Jam dropped the ball promoting this CD which is one of the top 5 my favorite Patti CDs. On this Cd, Patti sings classic songs that have been recorded by other artist. Not that Patti needs to sing other people's songs, but when she does you can't help appreciate her talent and notice how other singers pale in comparison to Ms Patti.
I don't know another artist out there who has the ability to make a song their own as Ms. Patti Labelle does and that's exactly what she does on this CD. Patti has a great sense of timing, an ability to improvise like no other, a voice that has the ability to do things that most singers only dream of, a great ear for harmony, and her participation on backgound vocals often create magical moments.
There are so many great moments on this CD and many unexpected ones too.
I happen to like the second half of the CD. The first half is good, but to me Patti really shines on the last 6 tracks. I love love love "I'll Write a Song for You". "Your Song" with Elton John is excellent as well as the Pretender's "I'll stand by you". I cant end the review without mentioning great renditions of "Silly", "You're Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else", "Land of the Living", "He's Out of My Life", "Love Dont Live Here Anymore". I cant imagine why more of these songs werent singles, they are well done and Patti shines on this Cd...buy it!

2 out of 5 stars Why?.......2006-10-07

This recording is just ok. I didn't see why she needed to do a cover cd patti is so much better than this and it's not that she is singing the songs just ok it's just that she doesn't add anything different to them to make me say yeah thats it. make the next recording will be the one i can enjoy until then i guess i will put "flame' my favorite patti cd.

2 out of 5 stars She has tried....her best !.......2006-04-20

She has tried her best and I admire her for the effort.
She sings with her heart , but ...I like some of her old stuff.
If you like her , you should listen to another great Lady who is the only one who can match her nowadays , Regina Belle.
Try her latest release,"Lazy Afternoon",and then let me know :-)

4 out of 5 stars The Goddess of Sound.......2006-04-13

Who else but Labelle would dare cover classics "Love Ballad" from Anita Baker and "I Can't Make You Love Me" from Bonnie Raitt on a single album? Patti testifies to her goddess diva status by the sheer audacity of this album's song list. She's amazing here, as always. My favorites are "Silly", "Stand By You", "YGMMLSE", and "I Can't Make You Love Me." Even Labelle knows if she's going to cover Bonnie Raitt's signature song, she better bring her A game. It took a couple of listens for Patti's version to hit me because it is so different from Raitt's understated masterpiece, but Patti delivers a brilliant, deeply personal, heartbreaking new interpretation of this very great song. This album is about just that - the supreme goddess of sound putting her personal stamp on some of the best songs ever written.

5 out of 5 stars Thank God for Patti LaBelle.......2006-02-24

Patti is the greatest on all her albums and on her show!

5 out of 5 stars Patti is defenintley Defenitive.......2007-05-01

I love me some Ms. Patti Lord knows is do but the only reason i gave this album 5 stars is because it's Patti the material is all great with good sound but it's missing "If only you knew" her first #1 as a solo artist. Also i din't think "Love is a whisper away" and "Don't block the blessings" should have been added. They were not hits, not even singles from the Flame album. They could have thrown in "If only...." and " Love, need and want you" or " You Are My Friend". and wait Where the hell was "Lady Marmalade" Thats what made me mad what is What can i do for you doing in the place of "Lady M." that was the biggest mistake on the disc!! Even so the album is good. I lov the pic of her in the studio it lokks like a defenitive collection very nice look to it! It sold well to it charted at #36 on the R&B charts it sold in the thousands! It was a bgi hit for a compilation cd especially since she has had so many and she's black!! Also some people i think thought it was her gospel Cd but most just wanted it! I found that alot of young people like me have it! Wise children!

2 out of 5 stars missing too many songs.......2007-03-06

No "You Are My Friend", no "If Only You Knew", no "Love, Need and Want You"- definitely NOT definitive!!

3 out of 5 stars the sorta ultimate patti labelle.......2006-09-08

this cd could have been indeed been the definitive collection but anyone who is a fan of miss patti knows her signature song is You Are My Friend, it's not included here on this cd. the sound of what is on the cd is great, but alas like i said it's lacking the big gun

3 out of 5 stars Another New Day.......2006-08-23

There are often times where I've seen and heard a very good artist, but not actually deliver a definitive greatest hits record. Nevertheless, it is definitely a very sad situation for so many acts within the past several years. From Luther Vandross, to Natalie Cole, they've each had several hits records that were good, but not good enough. That also is the case with a true leend like Patti LaBelle. Her career has span a mind-blowing 45 years, and remains one of the very few perfomers that shows that her voice is still as unique and special as it was the day it started. Now that her 45th anniversary is here, another hits record is out from her universal catalog of delights. The question is, does this collection deliver like the other ones did.

Patti LaBelle's 2006 Definitive collection is a single disc comprehensive collection that tries to showcase Patti's longtime highs and lows as a singer. The album features 19 of her tracks reflecting her eras with The Bluebelles, LaBelle, and Patti's solo efforts. The record does show some of her best tracks like On My Own with Michael McDonald, Kiss Away The Pain, The Best Is Yet To Come with the late Grover Washington Jr., the upbeat When You Talk About Love, and her 2004 hit New Day. Although the album does highlight a lot of her great tracks, the also isn't really as definitive as it claims to be. The album really overlooks a lot of great songs such as the fiesty and soulful classic Lady Marmalade, If Only You Knew, the seductive Love, Need & Want You, When A Woman Loves, and many other great tracks.

All in all, Patti LaBelle's Definitive Collection feels more like it is a re-introduction to her longtime career to new fans, rather than displaying a definitive reflection for die hard longtime fans of this legendary diva. Still, if you haven't heard any of these great songs Patti LaBelle has made famous throughout the years, than this record is still worth listening to.

Possessed of one of pop music's great voices, Patti Labelle has done the girl-group thing with the Bluebells, and thrown down the full-on funk with LaBelle. Her solo career found LaBelle trying on both up-tempo dance hits and classy soul ballads. This short set is from her latter period, reflecting such triumphs as "On My Own," her duet with Doobie Brother Michael McDonald that was a No. 1 pop hit, and the touchingly compassionate "Oh People." "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up," her R&B hits from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack now sound dated because of the '80s-specific production touches, but other songs--"When You Talk About Love" and "When You've Been Blessed"--show off her dynamic voice to good advantage. This set is not quite the equal of 1996's Greatest Hits, but it has a lot to recommend it nonetheless. --Daniel Durchholz

3 out of 5 stars Defnitive, But Not All That Collection.......2003-12-30

There are just so many artists these days that truly set the stages for what Soul music should actually sound like. Particularly, I wish I could say the exact same thing about Greatest Hits collections, largely because they always seem to miss something. For Patti LaBelle, she still is one of the Greatest Voices of our generation today. Sadly, I don't think a lot of people really respect her today, as they did back in the 70's and 80's. No matter what others think, she still has a tone that is absolutely gold. Her voice still continues to be an influence anyway.

The 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection, is a series of records that are more for the budget oriented who actually can't afford the greater-priced albums. The flipside is that they really don't carry a whole lot of weight in music. For the Patti LaBelle edition, is does seem to have a few flaws in the boundaries, but has some great songs including On My Own with Michael McDonald, When You Talk About Love, If You Ask Me To, and New Attitude. The downside is that the music really wasn't remastered adequately, and a whole lot of art and music is missing from the collection including Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is), If Only You Knew, Love, Need and Want You, I'm In Love Again, and a whole amount of other great Patti LaBelle tracks. Largely, the record only consists of her perios with her MCA / Universal Years, and not any of her years with The BlueBelles, and with LaBelle.

Although this seems like a dissapointment, it does really signify Patti LaBelle's revival by a longshot. I just hope that Universal and other record labels she's appeared on can really release something so outrageous, like a boxed set soon of Patti LaBelle and her music. As for the collection, I only suggest you get it, if you've never heard of her voice before. You might want to pass this one up.

5 out of 5 stars A True Diva.......2003-03-31

I had the opportunity to listen all of Patti's music as well as seen her perform on stage. I met Patti three times personally. First time her first time performing in Shreveport, LA. The second time was also in Shreveport 4 years later, she chose my nephew Larry Ellis as one of her backup singers at this concert. I met her upclose and personally in Tuncia MS., what an experience. The lady is as true as her music, you can't help but to fall in love with her music it's so real!! I will go all over the world supporting Patti and her music, although my nephew no longer sings with her but I loved Patti before and still love her afterwards.

4 out of 5 stars Lady Soul's best.......2003-01-08

I fell in love with Patti's voice way back in highschool when she was duetting with Michael McDonald.
It was 1986 and ON MY OWN just hit the # 1 spot in the US.
The song was soooo good, her voice so powerful and emotional.
I kept an eye on the lady for quite a while since then, and although i must admit she released lots of other nice tunes, her full albums never satisfied me in full, too many fillers.
On the contrary this hits collection is probably the best way to showcase what she accomplished from the '80's on.
It was such a surprise to see this greatest hits compilation being released after such a short span of time from the release of the "official" one.
Well, in my opinion this is so much better.
As well as the above-mentioned tune, it includes also the fraternity hymn OH PEOPLE, the slow-burning jam KISS AWAY THE PAIN, some three soundtrack tunes (the irresistable NEW ATTITUDE and STIR IT UP from Beverly Hills Cop and IF YOU ASKED ME TO -the original version written by Diane Warren and later covereed by Celine Dion- from a James Bond movie).
There is a funky and infectuous song composed by Prince, and a contagious couple of tracks supervised by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis - WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT LOVE is definitely one of those black dancefloor winner..!
You absolutely will be better off buying this...

4 out of 5 stars great overview of her later career.......2002-11-11

Initially I didn't bother picking this album up because it didn't have any of Patti's great earlier stuff and I was worried much of her 80s output would be too dated to really enjoy. I need not have worried - this album is a joy. Yes, New Attitude, Stir It Up and Yo Mister do sound dated but they are still great fun and some of the other stuff is just sensational. When You Talk About Love is the real highlight with a great vocal arrangement and Patti's sassy wails over the top. Other great tracks include When You've Been Blessed and Feels Like Another One. Even the Dianne Warren-penned tracks are not that bad - saved mostly by Patti's delicious delivery.

5 out of 5 stars A good collection of Patti's Songs.......2002-09-23

I had never been a Patti Labelle fan until I bought this collection and then I loved On my own with former doobie brothers lead singer Michael Mcdonald and then I liked this album it features lots of Patti's 80's hits from the ballad Oh People to the fun Stir It up one of the two tracks featured on the Beverly Hills cop soundtrack to the very funny Yo Mister featured on Patti's 1989 album Be Yourself then there's her version of If you ask me to featured in the James Bond film License To Kill in my eyes is way better than Celine Dion's version. We also get The right kinda lover which surprisingly is the only track That is taken from Patti's 1994 Album Gems. The only drawback is that I never stopped loving you is not on here I would also recommend Patti's 1982 greatest Hits cd The Best Of Patti Labelle
Enjoy

One of the best and interesting opera of Handel with exelant interpretation, production and recording.I hop ever see the same on DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Didonato astonishes again.......2005-11-22

There are two reasons to buy this recording-Joyce Didonato and Patricia Ciofi. If you have their Handel duet album on Virgin, you will love this. Didonato continues to be a singer of such talent and magnetism (I saw her Rosina to Florez's count in Pesaro last summer) that it is hard to believe that the career is really just now blossoming. Her technique, breath control, legato singing are all traits that one would only wish for in a singer. Conducting and the rest of the cast are also first class. Highly recommended!

Really a great album. One of Patti's best. The title song is very inspirational.

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!!!!.......2004-10-15

THIS IS ONE OF PATTI'S BEST ALBUM.MY FAVORITES ARE OH PEOPLE, KISS AWAY THE PAIN, ON MY OWN, AND OTHERS. THIS IS A FANTASTIC ALBUM. PATTI DID A GREAT JOB ON THIS ALBUM I REALLY DO ENJOY THIS ALBUM AND I RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO LIKES PATTI TO PURCHASE THIS ALBUM. IT IS A VERY NICE ALBUM TO HAVE IN YOUR MUSIC COLLECTION!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous! Patti at her best during the '80s!!!.......2004-09-07

This album still is a favorite to me! I like how the message-driven Oh People weaves into On My Own and then to the funky Something Special and to the bridge-heavy Kiss Away...,and to the no-nonsense Twisted. Patti sings in diva like fashion with her soulful voice on here. Only the last two songs don't grab me as much since there's so much solid material on here. But this album from 1986 is Patti at her best during that decade and solidified her as a well received singer to this day! Richard Perry, even after producing several successful Pointer Sisters albums and other artists, should be commmended for producing this album for Patti. I'd get that album or CD version of it again if I wanted to hear it! It's so very well done--she makes us a winner in us by having us hear it!

5 out of 5 stars Best Album Since Her Debut!.......2004-07-16

The title song of 'Winner In You' is pleasantly theatrical and I have plenty of fond childhood memories of "On My Own" but, once again Patti cooks best on her uptempo dance songs and there are some great ones here!"Something Special (Is Gonna Happen Tonight" and "Twisted" both shine in the same, brassy
synth-soul vein of "New Attitude" whitch is something this lady
has plenty of.Patti's "Greatest Hits" collections are recommended
highly but as albums go this and her 1977 Epic debut are the only
available full-lengh Patti Labelle albums you'll ever need!

5 out of 5 stars Don't overlook some of the tracks on this one.......2003-02-03

'Winner in You' is a great CD. Now you may be thinking, 'Why buy this CD when I can buy a greatest hits compilation?". To that I will say there are some tracks here not available on Patti's greatest hits CDs that should not be missed. Of course everyone knows 'On My Own'. But don't over look the power of 'Oh People', and the sweetness of 'Kiss Away the Pain'. Those tracks are not to be missed.
