Camp Classic that is a must have!!!!.......2006-12-07

Lately my friends have been going through a bad time...and I realized there was only one thing that could put a smile on their faces. The "Action Jackson" Soundtrack.

Much of the album is the sledgehammer funk so prominent in 1988. I dare you to play "Action Jackson" by Madame X to anyone and not have them crack up and dance along. Seriously folks, 80s pop music doesn't get any campier or fun than this track.

Elsewhere, the version of the Pointer Sisters' "He Turned Me Out" is has a bit longer of an intro than the album version found on "Serious Slammin'" Nothing better than listening to the sisters sing about finding a thrill at "Tony's Grill". I wonder if there really is a Tony's Grill?

Of course, the masterpiece of the soundtrack is Vanity's "Undress." This sole track is just as fun at the Vanity 6 stuff...and certainly much better than the uneven 'Wild Animal' disc (which NEEDS to be reissued on CD please!!)

Pure classic soundtrack. Plenty of treasures to be found here.

The best CD I didn't know about.......2007-02-16

I heard Miracles on a Club Ibiza collection, and was intrigued enough to track down this CD.

This is pure solid gold. This is funk as fine as it comes. Miracles is the best-known track from this album, but Day in the Blue also quickly captured my heart.

These girls are musically gifted, well-produced, and you will absolutely love this album.

Digital Restoration ?????.......2006-12-27

This 1995 reissue of a classic Pointer Sisters CD is a perfect example of how not to remaster music. It sounds flat and empty. My advice is to pick up a vinyl copy instead, until someone at BMG gets their act together and remasters all the Pointer's Planet material at today's standards. It can't be that hard - just listen to some of the Hip-O-Select reissues of even earlier Pointer material - fantasic full rich sound, that you'd think was recorded today using the best facilities. This CD is a major disappointment.

One way to get some great 80s music that you may not find otherwise is buy buying movie soundtracks. While this movie was far from Perfect, this soundtrack has some great nuggets from Whitney Houston, Jermaine Jackson, the late Dan Hartman, Jermaine Stewart and more.

Not Those Jacksons! at Long, the Other Jacksons have Been Compiled on CD. The Jackson Sisters were Jacqueline Jackson-rencher, Lyn Jackson, Pat Jackson, Rae Jackson and Gennie Jackson. Based in Detroit (But Originally from Compton, California), the Jackson Sisters Recorded Material with Some Modest Success in the 1970's. However, the Group Really Came Into their Own Nearly a Decade Later Following the Emergence of the "Rare Groove" Scene in the UK Jackie was the Eldest of the Five Siblings, Gennie the Youngest. In the Late '80s, the Late Johnny Bristol Penned and Produced "Shake her Loose" in 1975. Bobby Taylor Produced and Co-wrote the "Rare Groove" Anthem, "i Believe in Miracles" in 1976. Both Songs were Released on Polydor Records, Although "Miracles" was Originally a B-side on the Mums Label the Single "Boy You're Dynamite". The Song Would Later to Be Re-released in the UK on the Urban Imprint.

THIS CD IS PRETTY GOOD .. MY TWO FAVORITE SONGS ARE..A DAY IN THE BLUE AND WHEN YOUR LOVE IS GONE. QUITE INTERESTING THERE HISTORY...YOU KNOW SCINCE THE OLDY GROUPS ARE RESURFACING, (YOU KNOW LIKE ON REUNION SHOWS FEATURED ON THE TBN CABLE BROCASTING SHOWS)DO YOU THINK WE WE SEE THESE MISTERIOUS SISTERS?

A renewed interest in Rare Grooves made me purchase this collection by the Jackson Sisters. It seems thrown together...it's not listed in chronological order and some songs sound like they were mixed louder than others.

But, for the rare groover, it is a great collection of all of the 45s ever released or recorded by this group of sisters from Compton, CA. I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES (#89 R&B, Prophesy Records, 1973) is the only hit/highlight on this CD, familiar to the UK Northern Soul Scene. I read that it was a bit bubblegum, but you wouldn't pick up on it with the driving, funky percussion through out this gem!

MAYBE, DAY IN THE BLUE, WHY CAN'T WE BE MORE THAN JUST FRIENDS, and SHAKE HER LOOSE are underrated sides and major highlights for me with the later IMO a great Quiet Storm gem! There is also a remake of ROCK STEADY, originally performed by Aretha Franklin, which according to the liner notes, was a mistake...their manager counted it off too fast. I can actually see/hear this being played in clubs because of its fast beat!

In addition to the 7" released version of I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES, there is also an alternate take, simply titled MIRACLES and an extended version released in 1987!

The liner notes, written by Charles Waring (Blues and Soul, MOJO) is an added plus, with rare photos, the history of how the Jackson Sisters got together and stories behind the songs on this compilation! I recommended it to the serious collector!
