Amazon.com

The splicing together of nu metal, rap, funk, and sterile electronica laced with dark melodies as infectious as anything Britney has to offer inspired 6 million people to purchase copies of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other. With Chocolate Starfish, they perfect their formula. From the electro-infused "Intro" through the contagiously chugging "My Generation" to the straight-up rap of "Getcha Groove On," Chocolate Starfish is a slick, clinical, and flawless platform for Fred Durst's effortlessly savage--and occasionally unintentionally comic--sociological rants geared toward disaffected youth. Ultimately, though, it's that undeniably intelligent musical backdrop--the brooding guitar sound that gave the Mission Impossible 2 theme haunting new life and menace, and that defines "Hot Dog," "Full Nelson," "My Way," "Rollin'," "Boiler," and "It'll Be Okay"--that makes this a seething work of genius. The fact is, with rap and rock saying pretty much the same thing, Limp Bizkit have plenty of competition. They just do what they do better than everyone else. --Dan Gennoe

3 out of 5 stars Infantile, laughable, retarded, yet catchy. .......2007-05-14

There are many people who hate them, and many who love them. I kind of stand in the middle. At times, I think they have shown their potential, like with their first two albums. But lately, they have become more idiotic. Definitely a gimic band. This album was fun to listen to when you were drunk at a college party, or when you needed something mindless to sing along to on a long drive. I tend to be embarrassed that I own their albums when talking to other fans of the heavy music scene. I think that I have learned to stay away from any new bands that show similar qualities to LB, but God help me, when I was first getting into heavier music, LB was there to bridge the gap. All my friends were into it. My musical taste has become heavier over the years, but LB is still a guilty pleasure at times. I think they have a talent for writing good hooks, but Fred is not a good vocalist. Wes Borland is very talented, and I'm glad he was smart enough to branch out from LB and do his own thing, because it must have been suffocating to be in such a scripted band. Oh well. I take this album for what it is. Mindless fun with little lasting value.

1 out of 5 stars IDIOTS!!.......2007-04-21

Oh my God! Somebody said they were the creators of thrash metal? That is the biggest piece of crap ever! Hello, thrash was back in like 1981, with Slayer and Tallica. Back when Fred Durst was waxing his mother's wang.

Limp Bizkit is quite possibly the worst band since WHAM. Even the Dixie Chicks could wipe the floor with 'em. All of their songs are they same poser bullcrap. They are a gimmick. How can you take a band seriously when they have a song like Hot Dog? And My Generation? That song is such crap. It is sad that a bunch of loser kids who like to think they are cool listen to Limp Bizkit. LIMP BIZKIT IS FOR LOSERS, POSERS, MORONS, IDIOTS, and Fred Durst's family members!!

Don't buy anything LIMP BIZKIT!!!

5 out of 5 stars Rap-metal at it's finest!.......2007-04-06

First off that dude that said that Limp Bizkit is the kreatorz of thrash metal, I agree. Not only can they mix thrash, speed, power, grunge, & all types of metal, but they can mix hip hop, funk, rap, & nice phat beats with'em as well. Fred Durst knows how to put his mind to it when comes to rap-metal genres & no this metal band is not, I repeat not nu-metal. This band is a hundred percent heavy metal with mixtures of rap vocals, oh yeah! To the haters below, whats the deal with hating on Limp Bizkit for, they're the real deal metal baby. But as me I like both rap music & metal music, epecially in combine form as naturally well! Limp Bizkit will indeed go down in all history in the heavy metal hall of fame.

P.S. Get the LB albums in permanent order:
1. 3 Dollar Bill Y'all
2. Significant Other
3. This one right here, Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavored Water
4. Old New Songs remix
5. Results May Vary(that album is not bad)
6. The Unquestionable Truth Pt.1
7. Greatest Hitz with 3 extra tracks
8. Wait for Unquestionable Truth Pt. 2 coming out this year!

5 out of 5 stars Must admit that this is a good album.......2007-04-04

Especially now that nu-metal is dead and korn and linkin park are the only thriving nu-metal bands it is embarrasing to admit to liking a limp bizkit album. I am not a huge limp bizkit fan, but this album is definately worth listening too. Every song on this album is entertaining if you are a hard rock fan. This album is definately a good album to get the adrenaline going. Even if you are embarrased to have anyone know that you are listening to limp bizkit it is definately worth listening to in secret.

If you have read my title, it sayz that Limp Bzkit are the kreatorz of thrash metal.... And that's a fact! Thoze pozerz like old Metallica, Pantera, and Slayer were nu-metal you idiotz. Thrash metal didn't come around until KoRn and Limp Bizkit came around and came up with the great of idea and actually including SOLOZ in their songz. Thrashing guitar soloz that show pozerz like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix and "Dimebag" Darrel how to play a guitar solo.

Fred Durst is a musical genius- that showed on their debut. It showed he was a tortured artist whoze genius could only be understood by other tortured artists, like me, who watch MTV and TRL.

Limp Bizkit will go down as the greatest heavy metal band of all time.

PS: If you want REAL Metallica, try St. Anger

To the person who posted this piece of s**t of a review...What the hell have you been smoking?! I swear your review is the most funniest I have ever read here on Amazon and when I finished reading it I was giggling with laughter!...If you think Limp Bizkit is the greatest heavy metal band, then why are they not around anymore?! Limp Bizkit doesn't even come close to being a heavy metal band...By the way how the hell can you even say Metallica, Slayer, or Pantera are a nu metal band when they are NOT?! They don't even come close to being nu metal you stupid dumbass. Nu metal would be bands like Korn or Linkin Park or that band called Limp Bizkit. What I don't get is how you think Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix are posers when they were doing solos long before Limp Bizkit even existed. Fred Durst doesn't even come close to being a genius because either he or someone had come up with the most dumbest cd title I have ever read..and it's people like you that makes me really laugh because smart people know when to stay the hell away from MTV because they don't know what a real rock band is or a metal band for that matter... That's why they suck b*lls*

4 out of 5 stars A LOVELY LISTEN, BUT I WAS NOT FEELING SOME OF THE 80S STUFF.......2007-03-11

this joint was bumpin' for the most part, however, for me, i would've focussed more on their 70s material and left out a great bit of that 80s stuff. YOU SEXY THING is one of the groovinest songs i have ever heard period. i also love EMMA, the original BROTHER LOUIE, DISCO QUEEN (sampled like crazy), and others i cannot think of, dang!!!!! if you that british thing in your funk/rock music, then you will dig this for sure. if you prefer their earlier material, then find a collection that focuses on that. the one i saw omits BROTHER LOUIE, which is a no no for me.

5 out of 5 stars Great Jams.......2000-08-28

Classic Jams here. You Sexy thing,Don't stop it now are Dance Jams that still Slam.truly one of the 70's Good Solid Groups.Alot of Fun.it's Cool they are getting a 2nd Life.

5 out of 5 stars Classic seventies soul.......2000-03-21

It has been a long long time since I had the chance to listen to anything by Hot Chocolate, since my vinyl is all stored away in a closet. I forgot how much I missed these guys. H.C. was everywhere on the radio in the seventies, with good reason. Happily, this collection has most of their best work.

The poignant "Emma", even leaving the 'message' aside shows their vocal abilities; deep and lush. But these fellas surely could burn down the house, and did so: "Every One's a Winner" is a classic, as is the now over-used "You Sexy Thing". They jam through "Don't Stop it Now", and "Could've Been a Lady" and even "Disco Queen". One of my personal favorites is "So You Win Again" for every one of us lucky guys who has been crushed by some gal (not to be confused with the similarly titled and messaged Hank Williams classic).

Good stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Good Collection: Update on an Earlier compilation.......2005-01-29

It's fairly easy for a band like HOT CHOCOLATE to put together 30 songs or more for a best of set.
It's nice to have "HEAVENS IN THE BACKSEAT..." in this compilation, since it is hard to find ( despite its kitsch).
But, the rest of the songs are mostly good tunes written and performed by good 70s songsmiths.
A few of the tracks are not that cool, so its easy to see that this was not compiled by a fan; however, most of the tunes are great to listen to, and certainly at this price, a nice buy.
Pity that there does not seem to be a more comprehensive boxset available for a quite enjoyable, indeed an emotionally evocative, band.

4 out of 5 stars And a Marshmallow on Top.......2005-12-20

Hot Chocolate. Smooth, inviting, warm and rich. Most of the group originated from islands in the Caribbean but were based in England. Along with their big hits "Emma" (Emmaline) and "You Sexy Thing" was the group's version of "Brother Louie" (also covered by the group "Stories"). This album is worth a listen alone for those three tunes. Everything else is a bonus. Maybe I should have said a cherry on top. Whatever. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars First of two volumes covering all their hits.......2005-01-12

Hot Chocolate were the first British black group to achieve consistent success over a number of years, deservedly so based on the quality and variety of the R+B music that they recorded. The star of the group was lead singer Errol Brown, who also wrote or co-wrote many of their songs. They had thirty original hits on the UK charts between 1970 and 1984, plus a further two 1987 hits via re-mixes. All their original hits plus one of the re-mixes can be found on this volume and its companion. This volume covers the period 1970 to 1976 in chronological order.

Their successful run began with Love is life, a UK top ten hit in 1970, and included such classics as You sexy thing, I believe in love, Emma (a tragic song about a suicide), A child's prayer and Brother Louie, all UK top ten hits.

They also recorded great songs that were less successful, among these being Cheri babe and Heaven is in the back seat of my Cadillac. All these and many more can be found on this collection.

If you enjoy seventies soul and disco music, you will surely enjoy Hot Chocolate's music.

4 out of 5 stars Blast from the past.......2003-08-11

Good soul music for the diehard fanatic. There are some tunes you may recall if you can remember back then but most you need to have an ear for....

5 out of 5 stars Real memories.......2001-09-18

In a little town called Monze, Zambia, Central Africa at a mission school our teachers would not allow us to own music but somehow behind our dinning hall we could play our music secretly. Hot Chocolate is the stuff that taught us what real music was. We sung these songs in class like they were religious songs. Its too bad that such bands ended up disbanding but their music truly lives on. This is a cd I dedicate to my late friend Mao who loved it so much. Mao thanks for the wonderful times. Though only 14/15 years of age Hot Chocolate made us tick.

3 out of 5 stars Good for a good time.......2000-06-17

A re-mix of You sexy thing just made the top ten in 1987 but a re-mix of Every 1's a winner (not included here) just scraped in to the bottom of the charts for a couple of weeks.

They also recorded great songs that were less successful in the charts, among these being I'll put you together again, Every 1's a winner and I gave you my heart didn't I, their last major original UK hit - it peaked at thirteen. All these and many more can be found on this collection.

If you enjoy seventies soul and disco music, you will surely enjoy Hot Chocolate's music.

Hot chocolate, definitely had the Disco Groove going on. Let the band and Errol Brown bring you back to the 70's hayday with groovy tracks such as ... You Sexy Thing, So You Win Again, Every 1's A Winner, Get Down On It amongst others. If you like Hot Chocolate this is your fix for the complete album.

Get It and Get Down!

4 out of 5 stars A good collection at a great price.......2003-02-04

Although I think the collection "Every 1's A Winner - the Very Best of Hot Chocolate" (red cover) is a little better retrospective, you can't beat the price for this CD. With its focus on Hot Chocolate's 1970s songs, it leaves off a couple of good 80s tunes, but it includes the essential tracks You Sexy Thing and Every 1's A Winner. Some may even prefer this one, because it also includes some good songs not found on the other album. (So get both - I did!) Although a few songs sound like filler, there are plenty of catchy melodies and great rhythms.

1 out of 5 stars Everysong's a loser.......2003-10-31

Ok, obviously I hated this CD. I was looking for the radio version of Brother Louie and I got this. What the hell is this sh--? This is the kind of cheesy crap that caused the whole disco sucks movement. I've come to appreciate the music of many styles and generations but this is so bad I was embarrassed that someone might here me playing this in my appartment. It sounds as though these guys are trying(and failing miserably) to sound black. If you want to laugh or be disgusted, buy this CD.

Ultimately, though, it's that undeniably intelligent musical backdrop--the brooding guitar sound that gave the Mission Impossible 2 theme haunting new life and menace, and defines "Hot Dog," "Full Nelson," "My Way," "Rollin'," "Boiler," and "It'll Be Okay"--that makes this a seething work of genius. The fact is, with rap and rock saying pretty much the same thing, Limp Bizkit have plenty of competition. They just do what they do better than everyone else. --Dan Gennoe

1 out of 5 stars what the hell happened after their debut cd?.......2003-03-10

yeah there are some catch songs yadda yadda yadda...but im missin the 'Three Dollar Bill Y'all' style...seems to have vanished after they did the video for Faith. maybe they liked selling out except for Wes eventually when he quit. i've heard a track off of the new album 'Bipolar they have set for this summer and its not bad, im hoping that they go back to the Counterfiet and the Leech shuff...

doods, they need to 'bring that beat back!' as they once said.

1 out of 5 stars Pure Garbage.......2002-04-28

I NEVER liked Limp Bizkit. In fact, the ONLY reason I bought this cd is because a friend of mine said that it was "the best thing Limp Bizkit has ever done." Boy, what a load of crap that was! This cd perfectly displays how Limp Bizkit was one of rock/metal's biggest mistakes. It's a pure disgrace to know that KoRn, the most important band in metal history in my opinion, discovered these [guys]. The music that Limp Bizkit plays on here is as always, repetitive and bland. Fred Durst doesn't even attempt to sing on here. Why bother? We've all heard him try to sing, and he just plain [not good]! And also, the constant use of the f-word is just kind of immature. REAL musicians don't find it necessary to constantly use profanities in their songs. Avoid this cd at all costs. Nothing on this cd is worth anyone's time.

5 out of 5 stars limp bizkit rulz.......2002-03-16

Believe me when I say this. This CD is great. I love all the rock songs especially "My Way" and "Rollin (Air Raid Vehicle)". WWF Superstar the Undertaker has "Rollin" for his entrance music. I'll admit this guy is not my favorite wrestler but because he uses this song he has the best entrance. Anybody who loves Limp bizkit or other rock stars like kid rock or Korn will love this Cd.

5 out of 5 stars Limp Bizkit-AWESOME CD!!!.......2001-12-05

Wow......where do I start?? This CD is for anyone who likes rap AND rock. It has swears, so make sure ya check w/ the 'rents before you buy this CD. The songs have a great beat. I love this CD!

5 out of 5 stars stupendous.......2001-12-02

It is now ok to be the real, mature immature, stupid rude jerk that is actually how everyone feels but never had the self confidence to be. Yeah, no stupidly sappy sad serious drama-get over your parents and be the rude jerk that you honestly are-I can sing "yeah" to that song better than any lyric in anyother song anywhere. Yeah.

4 out of 5 stars A different direction for Jessica- 4.5.......2005-11-22

Her sound/Her music-In this CD it sounds like Jessica added lower notes to her vocal register but she still has a strong, smooth voice and stays in a range that works. This CD is basically singer-songwriter piano pop with guitar, as Jessica learned how to play the guitar too. Every song sings like a relationship diary; not a bad thing as Jessica makes it work, but there's a lot less variety of subject matter.

    Her best songs-
    3) Karma in a Gun-This is an interesting song that shows a new side of Jessica. She sings about a boyfriend who's not faithful to her, prompting her to fantasize about revenge. Believe it or not, this song is more perspective than it sounds, and the instrumentation is low but impressive.
4)Drown-Here Jessica is singing about a broken relationship and comparing it to taking a bath. In this case, drown is a metaphor for getting too deeply involved in the relationship. Her vocals are good; she starts by singing low and getting higher and louder as the song progresses. Her piano/guitar background music is upbeat, which makes this "sad" song more upbeat.
8)Princess Bride-This song is still about relationships, but interestingly enough it goes back to the sound of her first CD in instrumentation, lyrics, and vocals. She compares her real-life relationships to relationships in fairy tales and how she wishes hers were better. Her vocals are amazing here; she pushes herself to sing higher notes and she succeeds without sounding fake.

Final Recommendations-This CD is definitely different from Jessica's first CD, so people who really like the subject variety of that one may be disappointed, but I do recommend listening to this CD at least once. It is a change and it may take time to get used to, but in the long term it's worth it.

    5 out of 5 stars An excellent follow-up CD.......2003-08-21

I loved this CD. I have been waiting for it to come out since I hear Keys in a minor (under her maiden name Jessica Riddle) and I was not disappointed! My favorite song has to be Can't See and Drown, but all of them are excellent. The piano playing great and this is definelity worth your money!
