    Album Description

A stunning surprise package is boxed and tied and ready for unwrapping: Scorpions, Germany's most-successful international music export, are poised to "sting" once again and are planning a frontal attack on the musical artery of rock fans all over the globe with their new album Humanity-Hour 1. Thirty-five years after the release of their debut album Lonesome Crow, Scorpions believe they have reached a new creative high in their impressive career. And they plan to prove it with the release of album number 21. Even though they have already made music history with hits like "Wind Of Change", "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and "Send Me An Angel"- there is still nothing more exciting than a new challenge, than adding another milestone to the band's history.

Creator/producer Joel Surnow's hit action-suspense series largely turns on an innovative fusion of real-time plot line delivered by aggressive camera work and multi-frame editing technique. But no small part of the show's intensely propulsive drive -- and much of its dramatic tension and atmospheric textures -- are consistently delivered by the music of young composer Sean Callery, who's won three straight Emmy nominations (winning once) for his contributions to the series. The composer personally selected and annotated the tracks for this anthology of his best work from the show's first three seasons, anchored by a complete version of the show's usually truncated theme. Though it shares similarities with Michael Giacchino's work on Alias, Callery's work here is consistently darker, an electro-organic fusion that spans tense, brooding orchestral passages and thrashing dollops of metallic-edged techno. Yet the composer also delivers moments of melodic, almost mournful solitude, while the third season's story line inspires some evocative Latin influences as well. Callery's background in sound effects editing contributes much to the rich sonic textures here, yielding a pioneering approach that portends a bright future for the composer. --Jerry McCulley

    5 out of 5 stars 24 Soundtrack.......2007-06-02

For fans of Sean Callery's work on 24, this CD is a must have. This soundtrack is also very enjoyable on long drives, and it brings you right into the show.

    5 out of 5 stars LOVE 24 MUSIC.......2007-02-11

It was wonderful. As alway Sean Callery's music is outstanding. When you listen to it you can remember the scenes from 24. I would highy recomend it.

    3 out of 5 stars I wish..........2006-12-04

Sean Callery wrote incredibly beautiful pieces of music to underline the Tony/Michelle relationship. These are not on the cd. Although there are wonderful pieces of music(my personal favourite is the truly moving "The bomb detonates") I wish it were more complete.

    5 out of 5 stars A review from a soundtrack composer groupie.......2006-11-15

As I am writing this review, I have already ordered the "24:Season 4 & 5" soundtrack. (The follow-up to this CD) I was so excited to find out that Sean Callery was producing a second CD for fans of "24".

As the title of this review indicates, I own several soundtracks from various TV series and movies. Out of all of them, I believe this is my favorite. It is no wonder that Sean has won two Emmy's for his work on "24".

One of the great things about this CD is being able to hear the show's theme in it's entirety. The other most noteable tracks for me are "Jack's Revenge At The Docks" and "The Bomb Detonates"....I guess because of the scenes that they accompanied. My other favorites...."Palmer's Theme" (reminds me of "Fanfare For A Common Man") and "Coliseum Finale" (when I listen to this one, I can actually see Mrs. Palmer running through the LA Coliseum....as fast as the beat will take her.)

If you are a fan or "24" or a fan of great music, you NEED to get this CD!!

5 out of 5 stars A excellent score for a excellent TV drama!.......2006-11-12

This score is one of the most emotional and well composed scores there is. The upbeat track really get you excited, while the softer, quieter track really get you into the emotion of the show. This CD is a great addition to any collection. You will not be sorry for buying this CD!

5 out of 5 stars Killer Metal Album!!!.......2005-03-28

Finally, a band from America that isn't afraid to play True Metal. A singer who can actually sing and doesn't just yell into the microphone, or worse yet...rap (yuck!). The songs all tell stories that captivate the listener and bring him on an amazing ride through various worlds. Songs with structures that change and don't remain stagnant throughout, yet flow perfectly from one section of the song to the next. And of course, the in-your-face anthom! This is indeed a complete Metal album in my book. Can't wait to hear the next release from this band! ZANDELLE RULES!!!

    4 out of 5 stars Metal Mania!.......2004-06-28

Now THIS is METAL! Pure unadulterated Power Metal at it's finest, Zandelle is a clever cross between old Queensryche, Fates Warning and Helloween. Also, a lean towards the newer Iced Earth type power/speed can be heard. Excellent dual guitar work with a "beauty and the beast" edge to the solos. Soaring vocals and competent drumming also round out this excellent album. My only gripe is the production. Not nearly as bad as "killing is my business...") but it could be a lot better. A definite must for all fans of TRUE METAL! I can't wait to hear their next release.

    2 out of 5 stars OUT-DATED METAL!.......2004-05-28

This CD would have been great if it were released in the 80's. I gave it 2 stars-one for the cool cover and one for effort! The majority of my METAL collection is from the 80's but i'm really picky when it comes to adding somethng to it. The sound is just too unrefined and the production is a bit weak. I hope that their next release will be much better than this one. If you like bands like EARLY "Judas Priest", "Forbidden", "Sanctuary" and "Y&T" or just the RAW 70's & 80's sound, you'll probably like this. Don't expect any fancy or intricate arrangements. You won't find it here. I wouldn't consider them Power or Progressive Metal. They're more Hard Rock than anything.

    1 out of 5 stars ewww.......2003-11-08

Cheezzz!!! , I feel like I'm on a horse when listening to this. dum dum dum dum dum dum

    4 out of 5 stars True Metal - A must have!.......2003-10-16

There's not too much negative that you can say about this relatively new metal band. This cd is filled with epic titles and true metal anthems. Whether it's fast paced power metal melodies you want, or simply technically ingenious musical skill and writing talent, this cd is for you. The vocals are true to power metal but still quite unique, though the vocal melodies could use some work. The talents of guitarist duo Maglio and (especially) Durfy are absolutely insane. I believe there is certainly a future for Zandelle in the top Metal scene, and I've heard from my sources that their next album will ABSOLUTELY blow this one away.

Three different but very good versions of the same song made popular in Kill Bill and the Jaguar commercials. Looking forward to listening to more Hotei music.

5 out of 5 stars Theme for an ultimate bad-@$$.......2004-11-04

If you saw "Kill Bill Vol. 1" or have watched a Jaguar ad on TV over the last couple of months you have heard this song. And it is unbelievably cool, the sort of music you envision being played while you are walking while dressed all in black with sunglasses as you are filmed in slow motion. It is obviously Led Zeppelin-influenced, slow and slinky, hypersexy with overdriven percussion, a razor-sharp brass arrangement (you can see the flash of Katana blades as swordsmen duel), and the finest middle-eight I've heard in ages.

The song is also a terrific example of a guitarist knowing exactly what and when to play...and when not to. His technique is not a devastating virtuoso attack along the lines of Joe Satriani or Eddie Van Halen; rather, he plays around a song, using his instrument as a support piece in as much as a lead voice. This is borne out by listening to the "karaoke guitar" mix on track 3 of this single. It is basically the standard song but without the lead guitar track (the intimation being that you as the guitarist can supply the solos yourself). The result is that the listener gets a chance to hear the brass arrangement more clearly (which again is brilliantly used) and appreciate the subtlty and zen-like mastery with which Hotei plays exactly the right notes for the right mood and the right timing within the song. He understands unequivocably that the song itself is the artistic statement, not any pretentious display of six-string wizardry.

Track 2, the "Samurai mix" is the tonic for everyone who thinks "Battle..." is a great song that ends too soon. The Samurai mix clocks in at almost 3 times the length of the basic edit, and as such has three distinct phases, running from the initial mild reinterpretation, a stepped up quickening, and eventually a supertechno drum-and-bass crescendo, all the while punctuated with various "KIAI" samples from Samurai movies. The original mix of the song is both recognizable and honored in this treatment, unusual for a remix project.

Considering that all three tracks are essentially the same song, this single makes a wise purchase for anyone who really appreciates it. If you're not especially fond of the other songs on the "Kill Bill V. 1" soundtrack, this CD single is definitely the way to go (particularly if you're not fond of paying the import price for the full length -and categorically briliant- "Electric Samurai" CD).

If you want to rock the first time you hear a new album versus waiting a few times to "break it in", this is for you. Produced by J Yuenger (from White Zombie) It's Not The Heat, It's The Humanity is a wicked car chase down old gravel roads through towns once forgotten now awakened between mad motor freaks and the women who stole their cash. BA-DONG!

4 out of 5 stars As good, if not better, as what's out there now........2006-09-02

This band rocks hard. They sound seventies rock and that is a good thing. I put them in the category of Wolfmother, less psych-influenced, but still with the of manic guitar breaks and killer lyrics. Reminds me of cruising the pike during H.S. Free music ripping the airwaves. i like it more each time i listen to it. The cover promises musical exploitation and delivers!

5 out of 5 stars Big fat thick dirty rock........2006-01-29

I have to admit, as soon as I listened to this disc I emailed "Even Now We Are Preparing to Love You" to about a dozen people (most of whom have since bought the CD). Then I stuck the disc in my car and went for a fast drive with "Even Now..." on repeat. Puny's riffs are just charming, sludgy and delightfully nasty. This band feels a lot like old Sabbath, or Skynryd in a bad mood. Alternatively, if you dig the Kyuss or QOTSA sound, you will enjoy this stuff. Energetic, quick, merciless, with no apologies for the brevity of the tracks. The sole long song, at the end of the disc - B.I.B.L.E. - does a little impression of something cosmic like Planet Caravan. This is one of those CDs you just have to own.

    5 out of 5 stars Heavy Hard & Fast.......2003-05-11

Great Great stuff. They focus on the riff. Great riffs. You don't here bands throwing out riffs left and right like this anymore (you gotta go way back). Kinda sound like Tommy Ionni with White Zombies percussion section, and a full throated voice as well. Excellent album. No filler. I hope they're future is fulfilling & lucrative. We need more bands like Puny Human (Five Horse Johnson too), and soon.

5 out of 5 stars This is album will kick you in the junk!.......2003-05-08

Puny Human rock! So hard! This album is great from start to finish. It has its own unique sound and is loaded with, dare I say it, great songs. Most heavy albums forget that being heavy is the easy part, the songs are what makes a record great. In "It's Not The Heat, It's The Humanity," Puny Human remind me of bands like black sabbath, grand funk, and devo. The record was beautifuly produced by J. Younger(formerly of white zombie). Seems to be another great release from smallstone records out of detriot, one of the last independent heavy lables around. Keep you eyes peeled for the new Five Horse Johnson(awesome blues rock) disc, as well as the new Throttlerod(pure southern rock) coming out on smallstone in the near future. No, I don't work for the lable, just a big fan of the bands and trying to spread the word.

I heard this song last night, for the first time, on the atmopheres station, and as I listened it seemed soft and "haunting"...taking the meaning to be "recurring often in the mind"... in a mellow way. I love that we have a song for humanity...another step up in our journey.
