Given the two belated live-action sequels and numerous other TV and video spinoffs spawned by Disney's charming 1961 animated original, the Dalmatian count is more like 1,001 by now. This reissued soundtrack (admirably restored in the late '90s by producer Randy Thornton) showcases the original orchestral film cues of George Bruns to good effect. While the composer's bright, lively work was largely fragmentary (originally written as punctuation for the film's turns of action and comedy), its components have been skillfully sequenced and gently edited here for a more cohesive listening experience. The film's most memorable musical moments remain Mel Levin's delightful trio of songs, "Kanine Krunchies," "Dalmatian Plantation," and, of course, the classic villainess romp "Cruella DeVil." Bonus cuts include both a bluesy piano rendition and Levin's decidedly goofy piano/vocal demo of the latter tune. A great primer to Disney's animation underscore philosophy, seasoned with one of the studio's most memorable songs. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars ROBERT E. LEE COMES TO LIFE!.......2001-01-02

Jimerson has created a recording that gives the listener a wonderful sampling of the music Robert E. Lee would have heard during his lifetime, in a true period style. As a regular visitor to Lee's birthplace, I am impressed by and enjoyed the results of Jimerson's historical research at the Robert E. Lee archives at Stratford Hall.

2 out of 5 stars Not real great.......2000-11-23

Aside from the competent performances of Douglas Jimerson and Jill Worley, the singers and musicians on this CD are rather poor. But the recording is worse - poor quality, and done in such a way as to emphasize defects in the presentation. Whenever David Calib comes in with the drums, everything else is drowned out. Did they put the mike _in_ the drum? Sounds like it. The best numbers were those with Jimerson soloing with only a piano backup. It was therefore very disappointing to hear "All Quiet Along the Potomac" as a trumpet/drum instrumental. All this is not to mention the quibble that the album's connection with Robert E. Lee is a bit strained. Aside from "How Firm a Foundation," most of the songs have very little to do with Lee aside from the fact that his family might conceivably have had the sheet music lying around the house, or they were popular during/after the wars he took part in. Be that as it may, I'm sorry to say that three-quarters of the CD is barely listenable.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Northern Period Counterpoint to "Sacred Harp".......2006-10-05

A beautiful collection of "low-church" hymns in a folk style, but from the North. Some similarities to Sacred Harp-style shape-note singing, mostly found in the South, but from New England and largely taken from mid-19th Century period sources. Extremely well-performed and haunting, these songs will be running through your head for weeks after your mega-church's latest electric guitar extravaganza fades away.

5 out of 5 stars Nearly Lost Heritage.......2000-08-09

I am appreciative of any CD, such as this one, that brings the sounds of traditional hymns to modern ears. This CD includes familiar gospel with not so familiar hymns that whisper of a rich heritage nearly lost in the maze o modern choruses. Many of these modern songs lack the genuine passion found in the traditional songs found on this CD. I recommend this CD to those who are interested in cultural history as well as in beautiful hymn texts.

They have beautiful voices, I hope they come out with another english Album pretty soon. Always and forever a true Barrio Boyzz Fan!

5 out of 5 stars My first time hearing this album caught me with their vocals.......1999-06-22

I just found "How We Roll" a few months ago in February 1999. I was already a fan of their latin albums, so I already expected to hear a great sound from them. "How We Roll" has a great R&B and latin mix-it's a wonderful and mesmerizing mix of music. The Barrio Boyzz always give the best sound out to their fans and this album just added to my already faith in their music and whatever they come out with in the future. I hope you guys are coming out with a new album soon! I am ready to hear what you have to bring to your loyal fans! Your R&B/latin sound really hit big with me and you guys have one of the most smoothest sounds around in male groups! I know that whatever is coming in the future will be great because you guys have what it takes!!! I have faith that you guys will have a great album coming out!!! Love you guys always!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Feyer's CD is a must have.......2007-01-28

So I purchase my Nano and then easily transfer much of my "must have" music library to the 8 Mega Black Nano. The Nano makes me want to hear all my music again as I work out, etc. I ordered "must have" Feyer's Gershwin from Amazon and was lucky to get the Gershwin CD. If only they could remaster all his works onto CDs at a lower price than the $100 plus I paid. Feyer is a top addition and it reminds me of the Stanhope days and his music magic that I wish to briefly tell you.

In the latter 70s, the Stanhope weekends were a joy, buttressed by Feyer's music. He held court and the audience was captivated. He was an excellent pianist with excellent trills in the high octaves, and nice contrast with the lower ones. The Gershwin CD the piece "I Got Rhythm" reminds one of small flames jumping lightly on a log. So light, so elegant, so much in rhythm. I would take my "A" dates to the Stanhope, including my future wife of 20 plus years. After the Met Opera or ballet, I would take my dates to the Stanhope. Usually two Kier Royals, supper, wine, and dessert would accompany George's fine music. Such a rich repertory and bottomless request well that he knew with top piano skill!

Missing on the CD was his singing and funny remarks. I recall him playing `Thank Heavens For Little Girls"... they are so helpless, and then he would pick some women from the audience and repeat the word " helpless' and the everyone would laugh. My dates were the younger women in the Stanhope back then and he tended to look at my dates.....and made them feel like a princess

The Stanhope was a bit expensive but a classy place. With George, it was worth every penny. I think Gunnar ( spelling?) was the head waiter. They knew you and you did not have to ask for a certain drink as they knew your need before your request. Unlike today, waiters are more of errand boys to the kitchens. George also knew your favorites in songs.

One thing that is not obvious, despite my Ivy MBA and a good undergraduate degree, one does not learn in early years the basic American songs of Porter, Gershwin, etc. Some of my dates knew many of the words to these songs from their social events. Hence for me it was a pleasant discovery and made me grateful to the mastery of George. It opened one's appreciation to the very rich music heritage of America.

The CD in ADD format was very clear; no his; and, the accompanying musicians were well heard in CD. Enjoy this CD!

Anyone that likes solo piano, must have this one in their collection. Feyer was a superior pianist, and arranger. These are performances to LISTEN to. For alot less than a carton of ciggies, you can buy something good for you! Aloha

5 out of 5 stars George Feyer Plays George Gershwin.......2001-04-21

Hours sped like minutes when sitting next to the keyboard of Feyer's Piano in the Stanhope. I only wish all of his albums could be re-released and a new generation might experience this rare talent. He played with consummate skill, gentle humor and a panache that I've been unable to find anywhere.

5 out of 5 stars George Feyer Plays George Gershwin.......2000-12-26

This is undoubtedly one of the best recordings of popular Gershwin tunes. They are played with Feyer's european touch, but amazingly american in spirit. All his collections since 1951 ("Echoes of Paris", "Echoes of Broadway", "Echoes of Rome" etc.) should be re-mastered and released again, as well as his famous recordings collected in album "Cafe carlyle". It is a real music treasure.

5 out of 5 stars This is the happiest music making imaginable........1999-10-24

It's been more than 40 years since I first ran across George Feyer's "Echoes..." series of recordings on the Vox label (Echoes of Paris, Echoes of Vienna, etc.) Every month I check to see if by some miracle these recordings have been reissued, but I doubt they ever will because of their original label. In the meantime we will make do with this excellent George Gershwin album, which seems to me to come closer to his old recordings than the other stereo-era Feyer recordings now available. But will some company out there PLEASE reissue his old mono VOX recordings and spread joy through the world!

THIS ALBUM WILL NOT DISSAPPOINT any dancehall reggae frat memba. wicked wicked wicked album..i been listening to 21 since they drop their first tune and i been bragging bout how dem bwoy deh have wicked skills but nobody was listening. this album is a significant but not major upgrade from their debut album in terms of song creativity but 21 been wicked from day 1. we all grow with time and experience and they have and will. every tune displays their unmatched talent but it seems like unless you have catchy punchlines like "gimme da lite" and a voice that catches the american auidence then B.E.T wont play ya tunes and it wont top the "billboards" list. who give a rats azz. ward21 can flow with ANYBODY, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, all genre of music and ima keep blazin dem tunes till they get the recognition they deserve..just like MAD COBRA, KARTEL, MERCILESS, T.O.K, ASSASIN all need to be recognized. a true piece of art with massive riddims and tunes with straight up genious behind the makings...a must have..BIG UP

    4 out of 5 stars 21 Review.......2003-08-22

This Album represents the typical Ward 21, it reveals their signature looney lyrics on some of Jamaica's cutting edge riddims. Though this album might lack the creativity and originality of the first it is well compiled, airing popular and catchy songs. "U know how we Roll" will have u bopping yyour head and singing along. However, I wouldn't say it is a must have.

This is a stunning collection of tracks that mix tough rhythms with crazy humour and catchy lyrics with total insanity! `You Know How We roll' is fresh and exciting, containing some classic tunes on the years hottest riddims like `Clappas' and `Krazy', alongside promising new tracks like `Coochie Zone' on the stylish `Good To Go' riddim. It's full of their trademark outrageous lyrics, and also shows maturity as they have begun experimenting with new sounds and perfecting their production skills. Unique, exciting and totally mad... An essential for every dancehall fan.

4 out of 5 stars All Over the Place!.......2003-08-09

Ward 21 is probably one of the downright strangest and yet most talented acts around, especially in the dancehall arena, and with that eccentric group, thats a terribly difficult title to come by. Their production work is always top notch, while their own music is at times.. .. .. out there and at times off. But as I said, they are also very very talented.
This being their second album, I wasn't looking for too much of an improvement on anything, I was just looking for great vibes, and that they do deliver by the truckload. U KNOW HOW WE ROLL, is pretty similar to their debut album MENTALLY DISTURBED, the main difference being this albums tempo changing: Where Mentally Disturbed seemed to be out to hit you once and then immediately hit you again. U Know How We Roll, seems out to hit you once and let you recover and then hit you again. Songs like Something About Her will throw veteran fans of 21 for a loop as might Reggae Pledge, as both of them are on slower tempted riddims and are both almost basically on a rapper's scale and not a dj's.
Don't worry if you are that vet fan, the hit Rhyme and its sequel Crime are both present on this album, 2 of the funniest songs, I have ever heard. A song called Rhyme that sets itself of to do just that, but never actually crosses that point. Another underground style hit is the ultra uptempo and near masterpiece Petrol, a song that gives you a chance to catch your breath only when its over. And Petrol's 'sequel' Hey Gal presents a very similar MO. Also check Forget About It, featuring reggae's overworked but highly talented young singing vet Daville; Style a kind of an anthemic chant fueled by seriously tight flows; the album's seconed best tune, Badda Than Dat featuring Bounty Killer, the Warlord might be wise to stay near to 21 productions as he never fails to deliver when dealing with them.
The album's greatest masterpiece is Nah Climb featuring the bwoy soon to be king Vybz Kartel, while perhaps standing more of an example of Kartel's, its inclusion on this album makes it a sought after project in dancehall, Nah Climb is flat out dominant.
Overall, 21 has of course paid its dues, its leader and dominant figure Suku has worked for and along with some of the biggest names in the business. With more projects like this, its only a matter of time before 21 takes its turn at serious crossover and with production like theirs, it shouldn' be too hard.
