Customer Reviews:
Excellent Sounding Recordings.......2001-10-16
This CD has been around for a while now but it is still truly a good compilation of Science Fiction film music given a new dimension by being recorded digitally. The BATMAN selections composed by Danny Elfman are very powerful combing rousing elements with moody enigmatic passages. Most of the other selections are short or confined to one piece. The selections from TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE, STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER and POLTERGEIST all composed by Jerry Goldsmith are all performed with passion and demonstrate Goldsmith's great versatility. Bernard Herrmann's "Outer Space" from THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is brief but in effect makes it all the more powerful by its great innovation and lasting impact. The WAR OF THE WORLDS "Prelude" by Leith Stevens was a great surprise.
An interesting collection of obscure s/f-fantasy themes.......2000-10-26
Maestro Kunzel has gathered together a mostly-entertaining mix of music from various s/f movies. As usual with these collections, the CD contains selections that are hard to come by (if not impossible) on a soundtrack or any other recorded source. Not all of the tracks work, however. Music from "Moonwalker" is annoying, and the theme from "War of the Worlds" is just plain weird. Not Kunzel's fault, I know, but those pieces tend to (for me) mar the overall likeability of the album. That said, there are definitely keepers: The theme from "The Black Hole," the soundtrack to which was unavailable on CD anywhere until just recently and which by itself is worth the cost; the sweet chorus of Carol Ann's Theme from "Poltergeist"; the themes from "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "The Beast Master" (I am Dar!) and "The Last Starfighter."
Unfortunately, these movie collections tend to waste too much disk space on sound effects. Often inserted as short introductions to a piece of music, most can be endured quickly and forgotten. But on this CD, a whole track's worth following "The Black Hole" is devoted to the inane cacophony of electronic gibberish, space that would have been much better served by playing, say, the Love Theme from "Superman."
Still, there are more things to like on this album than there are to dislike.
Digital Sound with a so-so collection.......2000-06-25
This is another of the Telarc label's collections put together under the conductor Erich Kunzel and performed by the Cincinnati pops orchestra. Like all Telarc discs, the sound is pure digital and hence can really pack a punch. Moreover, Kunzel often chooses some vey nice gems in his collections -- e.g. the neglected Last Starfighter piece here. However, the problem arises in the fact that many pieces of film score don't play well with a large orchestra -- they loose their focused intensity. The Batman here suffers from such a flaw and is weaker than the original score. The Pops orchestra is best with march-type themes, of which there are not enough on this album to make it outshine the original soundtracks from which it draws.

Customer Reviews:
True to the music.......2004-04-21
In my constant search for music that represents the art of instruments & meaningful lyrics, Seek is a gem. Creative song writing, melody, soul, jazz, and everything that makes a song a SONG encompasses this CD. Come to find out, there are two previous CD's from Seek - 1999 & 2002! AMAZING! This is the best CD I've purchased all year. You'll pop this one in forever, finally music that is really music.
Seek and Ye Shall Find........2004-04-01
Atlanta-based Seek's third album, "Journey into Day," is a fine disc of chilled underground soul featuring real instruments and gritty vocals. The group fuses old school vibes with nu jazz, and as a result, comparisons to the more familiar Incognito will be inevitable. But "Journey into Day" shows that Seek really does have an identity of its own. "Rise" and "Open the Way" are finely crafted with laid back grooves and flawless arrangements. They also stand out admirably on more mellow cuts like the relaxing title track and "Loving Heart," and they bring out the best in lead singer Lisa Terry's velvet-smooth voice. This is sensual and lively music that's a welcome diversion from the (sometimes) predictability of neo soul. The musicians (particularly bassist/guitarist Freddy Luster and drummer Brad Hasty) are on point, and the production is exceptionally classy. If you already have Sade, Incognito, and Maxwell in your music collection, then you'll love Seek's "Journey into Day."
This is a Great CD!.......2004-03-24
Seek does a great job at melding jazz, R&B and dance rhythms coupled with life-affirming lyrics into beautiful music. The album begins with a head-bopping start with "Open the Way." Other notable tracks include "Something Real," the title track and "Loving Heart." The raw recording and production add to the album's charm. It's all about live, smooth-groovin' music here, not Pro Tools assembly-line fodder.
A True Musical Journey - - I love this CD.......2004-02-21
The music is simply beautiful. This CD takes you to a nostalgic place; it recreates as much as it recalls. Music lovers, add this one to your collection. It fuses soulful sounds, mid-tempo grooves, and dance rhythms that definitely stir your soul. This band has so much talent.
A Phenomenal Band --you've been waiting for this one.......2004-02-20
This album is their greatest record to date, and an instant soul classic! If you like Incognito, Brand New Heavies you will love Seek. This band has really come together wonderfully for this set -- hitting on all burners, from sweet smooth instrumentation to great lead vocals. The track "Journey into Day" is so eloquently composed, "Righ Here" dance remix is HOT. I love the rawness of their first album Venus and Mars, the dance and soulful jazzy sounds of the second album Surrender. This album is a combination of Seeks best work, a must have.

Album Description
Touch Somebody's Life, a CD of inspirational sacred songs, offers timeless and timely solace for these troubled days. The recording features 10 traditional spiritual and gospel standards. For more than seven decades, soprano Irene Day's voice has consoled the bereaved and lifted spirits over several generations. The original master of her solo album, He's Everywhere, recorded at Chicago's historic Brunswick studio in 1982, had all but disintegrated through metallic erosion and was nearly forgotten. But after 9/11 her music may have a second life in the form of a newly released CD, Touch Somebody's Life, which has been digitally re-mastered and musically enhanced with new arrangements, and dedicated to the memory of the victims of 9/11. Executive producer Dennis Day hopes that the new CD will find a new generation of listeners.
Irene Day has the unique ability to make her listeners feel that there are only three people in the sacred space of worship: The soloist, the listener, and God. Gifted with a rich lyric soprano voice, a fully two-octave range, and perfect pitch, Irene Day's delicate, sweet singing resonates with a personal faith tested by the vagaries of human experience. Anchored by the able accompaniment of pianist Marilyn Hairston, this re-mastered recording also features several renowned New York City-based musicians; J.D. Parren on woodwinds, Bob Cunningham on contrabass, and Dr. Gregory Hopkins, tenor/pianist extraordinare. The music of Irene Day offers the listener that special personal place of meditation, prayer, and reflection. "This is music inspired from a Christian perspective, but its raw emotion and power resonates with all people of faith," says Dennis Day. The CD includes songs like "Precious Lord Take My Hand," "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow," "Balm in Gilead," and others - songs that have traditionally provided hope and comfort to people in distress.

A monumental achievement for Atlanta's Seek!.......2004-05-04
A monumental achievement for Atlanta's Seek -- their greatest record to date, and an instant soul classic! The group have really come together wonderfully for this set -- hitting on all burners, from the sweet smooth instrumentation of the tracks, to the great lead vocals by singer Lisa Terry, to the impeccable production -- which is tighter than ever before, but never too slick, and always with some righteous touches to keep the sound strong. The whole thing's wonderful, and the album's one that we'll be listening to for years! Titles include "Open The Way", "Something Real", "Journey Into Day", "Some All Night Dancing", "Taken", and "Believe Me". US pressing features 2 bonus tracks -- "Right Here (Seekronized rmx)" and "Ever After (Tauriva rmx)". (Reviewed at www.dustygroove.com)
Seek's Best Work Ever!.......2003-11-08
I have been a SEEK fan for 5 years, and this album is fantastic. The production is so smooth, the vocals are amazing, and the sound is everything you'd look for when in the mood for a perfect groove. It has what will be classic tracks, an Incognito sound, hints of Sade and in their own SEEK style. This album is a must have, you can listen to it 10 times and always hear something new. We've been waiting for this one.
