"Love Dance" contines the tradition of previous Taylor outings with its laid back, sensual feel and a definite emphasis on intimate, late night liaisons!
Product Description
"Love Dance" [#1 in San Diego] is Gary Taylor at his finest. Tracks like the rhythmic "Erotica," the stark, alluring "Flirting With An Angel," the tantalizing "You Complete My Dreams," as well as the sexy title track (which Taylor also flips with a steamy "Conversation Remix" get to the heart of the matter: The Heart.

On No Doubt's great Rock Steady, Gwen Stefani was a "girl that hangs with the boys... just sippin' on chamomile." Three years and a KROQ-nerd Talk Talk cover later, she presents a solo debut that wants it all--Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, backseat love and lifetime devotion, '70s pop throwbacks and hip-hop beats as well as Clash adoration (she continues to be managed by the firm of Rebel Waltz, named for a mournful Sandinista! cut). Among the standout tracks are the stomping, Neptunes-driven "Hollaback Girl," the tongue-in-cheek Eve/Dr. Dre collaboration "Rich Girl," and the girl-power manifesto "What You Waiting For?"; another tune, "The Real Thing," nods toward role-model Madonna's "Holiday." Though it can't match Rock Steady's inexorable track-by-track flow, Love, Angel, Music, Baby is such state-of-the-art pop that the description almost feels like damning it with faint praise. --Rickey WrightAlbum Description
In her own unique way, Gwen Stefani has managed to shift our culture since coming onto the scene as the lead singer of No Doubt. With years of defining style and 30 million in record sales under her belt, she will again turn heads with this debut record that is as fresh as it is retro and as progressive as it is feel-good familiar. With this project, she has enlisted some of the biggest names in music (Dr. Dre, Eve, The Neptunes, Andre 3000, Nellee Hooper, Dallas Austin, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Linda Perry and Tony Kanal) to create a genre bending masterpiece that is guaranteed to be one of the most talked about records of this year (2004) and beyond.

Appealingly Chaotic Bag of Modern Pop.......2007-05-30
Great! A throwback to the 80's in many ways.......2007-05-27
Hollaback girl ( the banana song) is probably the funniest, craziest song on the CD. But, then there are smooth, slow hits like cool with beautiful music, and catchy lyrics. There are some other faster 80
s-ish dance songs on the track- lots of feel good music. There are even some odd r&b tracks that I don't think fit Stefani best. However, as a new solo artist I think it's fitting to test out some new territories. As far as variety goes though- this one has it.
It definitely leaves me looking forward to her sophmore album.
What exactly were you thinking???.......2007-05-19
What can I say, most people have said it all already! The tackiness and narcissism of her lyrics are indescribable, her music seems as if it was roughly programmed by a children's pc, her overall presence as if she was trying to impose her new arrogant self as the latest fashion. And there exactly lies the problem. It is more than likely that Stefani's arrogance simply derives from her belief that her ex-punk persona will help her not only get away with it, but make her look unique and 'uber-cool', thus bringing lots of cash. Only problem is, songs like 'Hollaback girl' and 'Bubble electric' don't make you look 'uber-cool', more like desperate to attract teenage audiences or adult fans that are simply musically illiterate and because of them, talentless bimboes like Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton and Beyonce Knowles (yes, and Madonna) that sing cheap vomitting 'songs' and think that dead animals are fashionable and luxurious became rich in the first place. Only thing is, Stefani was never one of the above, and the only thing that saves her from the comparison is her declarations that she is not a fur-wearing monster.
This album also proves that for some people 'rock' is more of a fashion tendency than an identity, and this is obvious by the 'easiness' that singers are characterized as 'rock' because some of their songs have quitar inputs (take Shakira for example, who desperately wants to be 'rock' but also goes for the buck, ie hideous collaborations with Wyclef Jean and Beyonce Knowles). Rock artists don't sell their music and they don't design clothes! Enough with this joke already! Until the 80s american music used to be fantastic, how did it start polluting the world all of a sudden?
Anyway, this CD is just cheap. It's nothing but the a-bit-too desperate attempt of an over-ambitious woman to project herself as the new 'revolutionary' fashion icon of the decade, still, it can only be consumed by the naive and the stupid. I actually gave it away to charity.

A greatest-hits package sampling four Enigma discs released between 1990 and 2000, LSD splendidly documents the influential output of Michael Cretu, a techno-bohemian who successfully creates cinematic, otherworldly New Age-like musical suites. Now, more than a decade removed from the arrival of Sadeness (Part 1) and its eyebrow-raising mix of sacred and sensual subplots, people can debate whether Cretu's music represents savvy commercial calculation or satisfying art. LSD suggests a split decision, though tracks with intriguing blends of atmosphere and rhythm, such as "Gravity of Love," "T.N.T. for the Brain" and "Morphing Thru Time," reveal an inventiveness that demonstrates Cretu is capable of more than sophisticated novelty tunes. Two new songs, neither especially noteworthy, open this package. Meanwhile, remastered older tracks segue beautifully to exude a satisfying, seamless unity. Big bonus: run time exceeds 76 minutes. --Terry WoodCustomer Reviews:

Spirituality enhancing music has never been as entrancing and alluring in the history of music. Never have I been so at one and felt so at home with music as I have been with this lush comilation of Enigma's Phase One (first four albums) greatest hits. Almost all of Michael Cretu's music should be on this cd because his music is so inspiring...it takes you on a mind altering journey through sound from which you may wish never to return, simply because of its fresh, pure musical taste.
Many of the tracks that made it on this cd are there because they were on the top of the charts. Not all of them are necesarily his absolute best...I wish songs like "Between Mind and Heart" and "Callas Went Away" were here, but the exclusion of those songs doesn't deteriorate the value. Even if Curly M.C. wanted to put more tracks on his Greatest Hits, he would have had to opt for a second disc because....theres already 74 minutes of pure heaven on the single disc. Anyway, explaining M.C.'s unique vision of music is next to impossible to explain; the songs are a mix of rhythmic beats, breathy vocals, synthed orchestration, and mystical lyrics, which are refrences to the Bible in some parts. Sampling the music is the only way to discover the beauty. Languages include Latin, French, and English. The quality of the synthesized sounds sound like they could have been made yesterday, which is an example of the talent and effort put into every Enigma cd.
Now I may sound like a paid advertiser for Enigma, but I am in reality a very down to earth guy. So I tell it like it is. This review is no exeption. The samples so kindly provided by Amazon above are not the best...M.C. likes to launch each of his cds with slow orchestrations, and then he picks up the pace with the third track. Really, only allowing thirty seconds of sampling doesn't quite do the cd justice. To become absorbed into a piece, you have to listen to the whole thing.
please, dont illegally download music if you do....it hurts the artist from which you are stealing.

The perfect timing of Beyonce Knowles' career moves continues with the release of her debut solo album. Dangerously in Love's best music is wildly up-to-date, craftily designed for both maximum street acceptance and positioning as some of the most cutting-edge stuff on current radio. The brash first single, "Crazy in Love," melds Jay-Z with an unstoppable Chi-Lites horn sample, shape-shifting into something brand new. Collaborations with Outkast's Big Boi and Sean Paul also prick up the ears, while changes of pace like "Be with You" and "Speechless" achieve their aim with credibility. The disc becomes far too ballad heavy in its second half, but the key stuff is the noise she brings. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

A Hidden Gem..........2007-05-28
The minimalist music was interesting and the songs were pretty, so I purchased it and listened to it when in the mood.
It wasn't until recently that I decided to give her first album "Love in the Time of Science" a chance, especially since I'm a very big Tears for Fears fan and knew that Roland Orzabal had produced some of it.
From the first listen, these songs caught me, and it took four listens for this album to become one of my all-time favorite albums!
It is very unique album, it takes plenty of risks and it is definitely not safe. The songs are beautiful, weird and clever. You can definitely hear Roland's influence in tracks like "Wednesday's Child" and "Baby Blue." Not one single weak track, all the songs are solid and when you're done listening to it you feel like you went through a rollercoaster of emotions!
Well worth the time and money :)

Amazon.com essential recording
Sarah Brightman's career was launched by her success in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, so it's no surprise to hear the soprano paying homage to the composer on this disc. Really a Brightman best-of, the album includes the Phantom theme (a duet with Michael Crawford), the light-opera fare of "Chanson D'enfance" from Aspects of Love, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita, and numerous other Lloyd Webber classics. Throughout, Brightman's diminutive voice lends a fragility to these musical theater tunes that you'll either love or despise. On Evita's "Another Suitcase, Another Hall" and Cats' "Memory," she literally chirps through the vocal lines. No matter. The growing legion of Brightman fans wouldn't have it any other way. --Jason VerlindeAlbum Details

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Monsoon Wedding is Mychael Danna's second collaboration with film director Mira Nair, (Kama Sutra was the first), and he has again compiled a winning soundtrack. Danna explores a wide range of emotions, from solemn to celebratory, through different generations of Indian culture. The contemplative "Good Indian Girls" and "Hold Me, I'm Falling" feature Danna's trademark piano ambience over traditional Indian instrumentation, and the vivacious "Baraat" sounds like a Punjabi variation on Dixieland, while "Delhi.com" ventures into dreamy ethno-techno territory. Sukhwinder Singh's "Today My Heart Desires" serves up lively bhangra rock, and Laxmikant Pyarelal's "Today the Weather Plays Tricks on Me" (performed by Mohammed Rafi) swoons with strings and male vocals. In all, the soundtrack's pleasing variety of Eastern music mirrors the film's old and new worlds living within a singular culture. --Bryan ReesmanCustomer Reviews:

Culture-Happy-Dance-Reflect-Appreciate-Savor-Relax-Laugh.......2006-11-06
It is very Culture rich and soaked in Indian flavor. It's colorful and makes you happy with a laugh or two; as it seeks to portray the traditional music typical of a Punjabi wedding in Delhi, India.
You want to dance with most songs and sit quietly to reflect with others. I listed appreciate because we often don't sit back to appreciate the richness that other cultures provide. My 2 year old appreciates this music in her broken wanna be Hindi mimic.
She dances as does my 6 year old to this music. It's really a great CD but I would recommend seeing the movie first.

The "Golden Age" referred to here spans The Jazz Singer and the advent of the talkies to the death throes of the old studio system in the 1960s. So vast was the era's musical landscape that even this 42-track, double-disc anthology can't encompass all its peaks. Not surprisingly, the bulk of this collection originated with the Tiffany's of the screen musical, M-G-M, a body of work whose riches here encompass both pop-cultural bedrock ("Over the Rainbow," "Singin' in the Rain," "There's No Business Like Show Business," etc.) and some less familiar, if equally delightful star turns: Clark Gable gamely "Puttin' On the Ritz"; the sassy, 1948 original of "The Lady Is a Tramp" by Lena Horne; and a loopy duet of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" by Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban. Fred Astaire's elegant, epochal reign at RKO and M-G-M is represented by "Night and Day," "Let's Face the Music and Dance," and three others, while Metro mainstays Gene Kelly and Judy Garland share equal time and billing. It's not perfect--Cagney's "Yankee Doodle Boy" and/or some Sinatra seem more logical choices than the odd "bonus" duet of Casablanca's "As Time Goes By" and "Lara's Theme" from Dr. Zhivago that close out disc one--but it's a stunning, surprisingly comprehensive primer on the Hollywood film musical nonetheless. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
They were right--there is NO business like the show business they did way back when !!!.......2006-11-18
Can happen in a show
You can make 'em laugh
You can make 'em cry
Anything
Anything can go....
The clown with his pants falling down
Or the dance that's a dream of romance
Or the scene where the villain is mean
That's entertainment!
The lights on the lady in tights
Or the bride with the guy on the side
Or the ball where she gives him her all
That's entertainment!
The plot and the hot simply teeming with $ex
A gay divorcee who is after her ex
It could be Oedipus Rex
Where a chap kills his father
And causes a lot of bother
The clerk who is thrown out of work
By the boss who is thrown for a loss
By the skirt who is doing him dirt
The world is a stage,
The stage is a world of entertainment!
This two CD set amply proves that the musical melodies and lyrics from the golden age of the Hollywood musical remain unsurpassed to this day. This generous two CD set offers 42 incredible songs from Hollywood classic musicals. Most of these fine numbers are indeed from MGM, as Amazon correctly notes; but there are some RKO numbers and even a little from Warner Brothers. Thank goodness, though, that most of these songs came from MGM movies; MGM was the only studio that could boast that it truly had "more stars than there are in the heavens."
I love so many songs on these two CDs. Of course, there's the unforgettable classic "Over The Rainbow" sung by Judy Garland; she also performs "Easter Parade" and "Get Happy" on this two CD set and she carries most of the tune for "I Got Rhythm" even though Mickey Rooney helps her a little. I love "Baby, It's Cold Outside" for its' romantic overtones; and Lena Horne's "The Lady Is A Tramp" is flawless! We also get a rare chance to hear Clark Gable sing in "Puttin' On The Ritz;" and Bing Crosby's "Going Hollywood" may be brief but it's a fun song anyway.
There are two "bonus" tracks on the first CD: "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca and "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhivago. "As Time Goes By" is a good choice; it is another unsurpassed classic song that brings back memories and touches even the hardest of hearts. "Lara's Theme," however, is from the mid 1960s and I don't consider this period to be part of the "golden age" of Hollywood musicals.
The liner notes are excellent and they offer wonderful photos of the stars as well. The cover art is well done and the reverse cover art tells which movie each song is from and who is performing each song. Moreover, the quality of the sound is excellent especially when you consider that these numbers were recorded quite a few decades ago.
In short, this superlative two CD highlights the glory of the Hollywood musical when a certain type of sophistication dominated professional movie production. I highly recommend this CD for fans of Hollywood musicals, classic pop vocals and fans of the artists and actors who perform on this two CD set.
One of the best cds I ever bought. .......2006-06-07

It was once said by the songwriters of that era - "There are two artists you want perform your songs on the big screen, they are Fred Astaire and Judy Garland they sing it just the way we wrote it, for which you will have a guaranteed hit on your hands"...well, this collections certainly has some merit to that statement...because with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire performing seven songs each, there must be something to it.
This collection of musicals still has the magic that we remember from those bygone years...but as long as we have the labels and networks who play and show these wonderful films of yesteryear, they will never be forgotten...hats off to Rhino Records, George Feltenstein (producer) and Doug Schwartz (engineer) and Turner Classic Movies for sharing those 42 selections from 42 films...celebrating decades of the tunes and artists that gave it their all...from what it commonly called "The Hollywood Dream Factory"...The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals is still among us...gotta love it!
