Greatest Funkin' Hits, this disc collects 10 tracks from George Clinton's '80s Capitol solo albums, most of which have been out of print for far too long. Nothing else here dented the charts as hard as "Atomic Dog," but it's fascinating to listen back to how the funk mastermind dealt with changes in the music (not least the growing power of rap). "Do Fries Go with That Shake!?" stands as one of Clinton's finest tail-waggers of this period, while "Last Dance" handily nicks a hook from David Bowie to mock a too-shy club-goer. Throughout, the beats are pumping and the wit and invention never flag, despite the inclusion of "R&B Skeletons in the Closet," whose anti-crossover stance is somewhat dated. Rounding out the package are a vintage Parliament/Funkadelic concert medley and an entertaining one-off side project single.

Not your father's funk.......2006-07-17
While not the best of George Clinton, as I have seen him morph over the years, but a very good effort. My wife somehow "misplaced" this CD so I had to search high and low to get a replacent, but I am enjoying it as much as I did the first time hearing it.
This CD is not the funk that you grew up with, or would be used to, but you cannot deny what the rappers bring to the table. It adds an edge to it that makes it fun and fresh, even in today's hip hop days. It is definitely one that is a keeper, from the remix of atomic dog to fries with that shake, George CLinton manages to make this one good "contempory funk" CD that is worthy of your collection. Listen to it more than once, it deserves that much.
Greatest Funkin Hit's NOT!.......2005-10-27
This was not the a CD with the original hits I was looking for. I wanted to hear Parliament, not Ice Cube, ODB, Digital Underground, etc. This was a CD full of remixes. If you want to hear old school with artists from the new school chimming in --buy it. If not, you'll either have to buy the deluxe box set for over a hundred, or buy a whole cd for one song. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a CD with all 4 of my favorites on it: Knee Deep, One Nation, Atomic Dog, Flashlight.
A Gem Of The Vile Eighties.......2005-01-16
Say what you will...."Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yay" was about the most...erudite lyric of that time in history...
Fool Master George Gets Extra Funk.......2004-07-17
Fool Master George (my affectionate pet name for G/C)gets quite raw and funky with a little help from the current generation of rappers. Hardcore funk fans may consider this to be musical blasphemy, but to my ears it works. As much as I despise Ice Cube and much of what he stood for in the 90s, I like his take on "Bop Gun." Clinton comes off like a proud papa watching his sons of funk Naughty By Nature, Digital Underground, and the rest work it with his stuff. A good funky listen.
SUCH TRUTHFUL LYRICS!!!.......2004-02-11
I would have to say the song that stood out for me on this CD is Atomic Dog (for obvious reasons). I was amazed that a human being could write those lyrics!
I mean , the part about "the dog that chases his tail will be dizzy." Oh man, how true is that? Guilty as charged!
And I also don't know what makes me want to chase cats, but I do!!! Why must I feel like that?
Oh, it's so nice for someone to finally capture my feelings in a song.
Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay, indeed!

the king who birthed Prince.......2003-09-03
With hair coloured like a pack of Lifesavers, sunglasses to shame Elton John and an over-the-top greatest hits powerload of pumping high-energy funk fire, flashy acid R&B and outrageous double-entendre wordplay, the mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective of the `70s proves he - more than any of his contemporaries - never relinquished his funk renaissance mission. Every single one of these 12 tracks is a funkadelic dance chestnut, cherry-picked from deleted vinyl and forgotten moments from Clinton's highly-productive studio work in the `80s - Do Fries Go With Shake?, Loopzilla, Nubian Nut, Atomic Dog, R&B Skeletons. It's all jumbo funk ballyhoo blown up to Japanese B-movie monster proportions and glittered up with stomping synths, Sly Stone acid overtones and comic sex/dance word twists - a formula that sounds impossibly refreshing more than a decade later. Where Prince flirted with similar-minded - and more successful - experiments on 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times, Clinton's Greatest Hits reveal the King, a man so far ahead of any of his contemporaries it's taken more than a decade for the rest of us to catch up.
So-so compilation from a funk icon!.......2003-07-26
The members of Parliament/Funkadelic worked better collectively than they did individually. Although Clinton, as well as band mate Bootsy Collins, had some success as solo artists, their collaborations with the rest of the funk band created some of the more memorable jams from the 70's.
The seminal Clinton opus "Atomic Dog" is represented twice on this disc and it is the only song that isn't stuck in the era of its release. The others are fun for those of us OLD enough to remember them, but for newer audiences, they didn't age well.
1980 was a bad time.......2001-05-18
after atomic dog george played out . the songs that came out after that classic jam some were at least worth a liosten if you are a p- fanatic they left out silly mill a meter. which was supposed to be a classic but like i said funk was on life support but that did'nt stop george clinton from funkin all over the place some of these jams were played only twice on radio millions blinked and never noticed. but if you wanna check out the way george and the all stars sounded in 1982, and beyond get this you might some good material on here.
CENSORED = Zero Stars.......2001-05-16
At first this looks like a fly collection of tunes from Clinton's solo career, which it would be if it weren't CENSORED. When the record labels don't release multiple versions, "clean", "explicit", etc., it seems reasonable to assume that you will be getting the artists original work, unadultered. Not so in this case, there is the one edition only, and it is censored. Not only that, but unlike a lot of the newer censored discs, its not just a word that's omitted while the music continues: this is just a BEEP that overrides all tracks -- talk about interrupted groove! Of course, that's a minor detail, if record companies feel compelled to put "Explicit Lyrics" labels on those albums with naughty words, then they should feel equally compelled to put a "CENSORED" label for ANY censorship (whether done as lamely as this or more subtley).
