I am in the process of converting over all my old cassette tapes to CD and was happy to find Con Funk Shun 7 on CD. The cd was awesome, even better than I remember it on cassette. They are an awesome group.

A Word From One of The Songwriters.......2006-10-28

I must say that, in all of my years since working on this album, these have been the most heart-felt reviews that this album has ever had. As the album cover designer, production assistant, and co-writer of three of the songs ("Bad Lady", "California 1" and "Promise You Love"), I know that the group worked really hard on this particular album because it represented the seventh album released by this seven member band. I wrote in the liner notes, "Renaissance goes by the number seven, the rebirth of life, love, liberty and legacy of hope....." to represent this album being a milestone in this phenomenal group's career. They went on to record 5 more albums before formally disbanding in 1986. By that time they had 5 gold albums and too many hit singles to name. I would like to thank all of the people who buy this great CD on behalf of my late husband of over 20 years, Con Funk Shun drummer and co-founder Louis A. McCall. (Did I forget to mention that I was also a "band-wife?) We appreciate your love and support.

Confunkshun 7 is a great cd. It was one of those albums i always wanted in high school but could not afford. It is awesomely digitally remastered. I remember this album was the follow up to the disappointing touch album which was the band's one mistake on mercury records. Standout cuts on this cd are bad lady,the smooth ballad straight from the heart which i never knew was on this cd,the funk drenched body lovers,and if you're in need. Confunkshun really put the stank on that one. I would highly recommend this cd to any lover of old school funk.

What makes Con Funk Shun so interesting to me is that they
were able to translate rhythmic funk into excellent melodic song
structures,the same way as Kool & The Gang and Earth,Wind & Fire,
the last of whom most of their work favorably compares.But even
here with ballads like "Promise Of Love" and "Straight From The
Heart" lead singers Michael Cooper and Felton Pilate can sing
straight up soul right there with Mayfield and Redding!But '7'
is filled with knock-you-socks-off uptempo funk songs-yes,they
actually are great SONGS rather then great grooves!"Bad Lady",
"Body Lovers","If Your In Need Of Love" and the catchy "Song For
You" the fact that Con Funk Shun never had a better pop chart
fade still totally eludes me!"California 1" actually pulls off
a nice rockish tune and even if this is 1981 and synthesizers and
vocorders do show up here is small doses this band is more then
capable of delivering the same well rounded package of funk and
soul the same as their predecessors!And being that this album,
1980's 'Spirit Of Love' and 1977's 'Secrets' are the only
orginial Con Funk Shun albums ever put on CD,they're all worth
getting because they are equally fantastic.So any fan of funk,soul and R&B should pick this up emmediatly!

Real Funk & R&B.......2004-08-13

One of the last true R&B funk bands from the 70's and 80's where it was all about the music and not about the bling-bling like so many of today's "artists" think the art of music itself is about...In fact, some of the newer and younger musical acts out there could really benefit from a lot of these old time classic funksters!...Only eight tracks and not a single piece of filler. From the smoldering funk-jam Bad Lady to the summer sizzlin' Santana-like inspired California 1 (makes me wanna go to Cali. while jammin' to this finely crafted tune), this is truly a masterpiece and a finely aged classic that only gets better with time by Con Funk Shun. The rhythm, the horns, the beat, the heart and soul, the lyrics of this once out of print production is simply for real !

For collectors of unforgettable fine-funk and those probably too young to remember this group (but wanna experience the real stuff), this is a must have ! Get it while it is still in print on this import cd before it goes off the radar again...
