Luke Slater - 'Freek Funk' (Nova Mute).......2004-12-12

'Freek Funk' is a damn fine CD,that is if you like techno.Sort of reminds me of Future Sound of London.Slater has apparently been a DJ on the British club scene for some time now.After listening to 'Freek Funk',I can see why.I was impressed with the tracks "Purely","Are You There?","Time Dancer" and "Walking The Line".This CD would be ideal to play at any bar,dance hall or club that caters to fans who appreciates this genre.

A variety of sounds........2001-02-15

Luke Slater's third full length encompasses many different flavours of electronic music. He dabbles in funk, techno, leftfield, and house throughout the course of the cd's 75 minutes.

There's a pretty slim chance that people will like this cd from start to finish, as some parts may be too repetitive, too long, too funky for their liking. At the same time there are sure to be something here for everyone; be it the techno repetition of 'Engine One' or the funky beat driven title track or the lazy bassy 'Walking the Line'.

The 15 tracks on Freek Funk represent Luke Slater's talents well. Catch this release instead of the less interesting Wireless.

Creative techno, the best 0f 1997.......1999-07-28

Probably the best techno album of 1997. As creative and intelligent as Orbital but more up tempo. There is also a chemical and a hard techno tune on the album (it happens ;-))

This is NOT an ambient album..........1999-04-18

I have no idea how someone could think of this as an ambient album... it's purely a techno record, with quite audible 4/4 beats on just about every track. The previous reviewer must be into Goa or something. I like it, don't get me wrong. But don't buy it thinking it's going to be like Luke's much more sedate outting "the 4 cornered room" (still with beats, and good as well).

One Cool Ambient Album.......1999-04-14

I like this CD, even though I'm not a very big ambient fan myself, but Luke's sound is pretty good. Its got alot of simple ectronic synth sounds and simple beats, I wouldn't say its one of my favorite albums, you'll just have to listen to it your self. Check out the songs "Freek Funk" and "Purely", their my fav's. I like to fall asleep to this CD (when I do sleep, and thats rare). I'm thinking of doing some remixes of his songs... hummm
