Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

When Chris Blackwell signed Buckwheat Zydeco to Island Records in the mid-1980s, he may have been hoping that zydeco would break out internationally the way reggae did in the 1970s. It never happened, though Buck gave it his best shot with a series of crossover-friendly projects featuring high-profile guests. Where There's Smoke is as good as any of them. The album was produced by Los Lobos' David Hidalgo and featured Dwight Yoakam sitting in on a cover of Hank Williams's "Hey, Good Lookin'." There's also a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden" and a version of "Route 66" featuring Hidalgo on vocals and guitar. But the best tracks are the old-fashioned accordion rave-ups, like "Buck's Hot Rod" and "Pour Tout Quelqu'un." --Rick Mitchell

I have had this CD for a couple of years, and I just got it out the other night. Had to listen to it again as I wait for his new CD to arrive. Man oh man, this is good. I dare you to put this CD on and NOT get moving. This could be his best, but I reserve judgment until the new one ("Jackpot") arrives.

One of his very best.......2000-07-09

Buckwheat zydeco has been bringing zydeco music to the massess for at least 20 years now and "where There's Smoke There's Fire" is truly one of his best CDs that is not a compilation. The production is perfect. all of the instruments jump out at your ears and the band is in top form. The songs flow beautifully from one to the next. The disc starts off with "What You Gonna Do" and just when you think your heart can't pump any faster they blast into "Buck's Hot rod", a sort of jump blues instrumental with one of the most blistering sax solos I've ever heard. The duette with dwight Yoakam on "Hey Good Lookin'" is excellent and their voices harmonize very well together. One of the highlight tracks is buckwheat's cover of 'Beast of burden." they slow down the tempo and add in some nice acoustic guitar. shoot me if you want to, but I think it's much better than the Stones version even though they are the ones who wrote the song. If you don't own any Buckweat zydeco CDs start with the "Zydeco Party" compilation to get a representative picture of his 80's sound and pick up "where There's smoke There's Fire" to hear some of his best music to date and be ready to shake it up!

When they are on, Cheech and Chong fill a glass with the absurd and toss in a twist of mordant wit. In a sketch familiar to many, Cheech has this to say about Santa Claus: "Everywhere he went he ran into too much recession, man." This is just about the perfect Cheech & Chong compilation. All their most popular routines are here, along with a few rarities. They wisely included about half the tracks from their classic first four albums, while including less material from their weaker later albums. It should satisfy most long time Cheech & Chong fans.

Cheech & Chong's drug oriented humor found a large & loyal audience in the early 1970's-Now,the good folks at Rhino Records have seen fit to include all their classic routines on a double CD package-These guys were true originals & the fact that they did all the character voices themselves is truly impressive-My favorite cuts are "Sister Mary Elephant","Basketball Jones" featuring Tyrone Shoelaces,"Earache My Eye", & "Framed"-Also included is a fantastic booklet written by noted novelty record expert Barry Hansen,who's better known as Dr.Demento-Too bad this collection doesn't contain a huge wad of rolling papers (Note:rolling papers were found inside C&C's second album,"Big Bambu" in 1972)-Anyway,if you have fond memories of Cheech & Chong or are just discovering them for the first time,you've got to buy this set-As they said way back when:"It's far out,man".

BLISS of an album.......2003-08-04

before i heard this album, i thought the cruel sea were a great aussie bad. i was wrong, o boy i was wrong. they aren't great, no, there is no words to describe the pure bliss i felt while listening to this. the only way for htis album to sound better is if you listen to it the way it was made, off your head. so, for your life to be complete, BUY THIS ALBUM.
