Product Description
Peven Everett is a worldly, multifaceted, celebrated jazz and soul artist. At the age of 17, Berklee School of Music awarded Peven a full scholarship right out of high school. He put his academic aspirations on hold when he was offered the opportunity to go on the road with jazz greats, Betty Carter,Winton Marsalis and Brandford Marsalis. The tour brought him to New York where he chose to live for six years in order to continue his jazz career. In 1998, he decided to return to Chicago with the sole objective of taking his career to the next level. Peven is a producer, writer, vocalist, performer and a multi-instrumentalist playing an astounding nine instruments proficiently. Instruments include the guitar, keyboards, drums, bass, trombone, woodwinds and numerous percussion. A renowned trumpeter, Peven recorded solos on cuts on Curtis Lundy's album, "Against All Odds", released in 1999, including the key single,"Groydology". In addition to his vast technical knowledge musically, Peven also has seven years of jazz and classical orchestration experience. Alongside his musicianship, he is an exquisite songwriter, vocalist and dancer. Having performed with jazz greats at spots like Blue Note, Sweet Basil and Smalls in NYC, as well as all over Chicago, Peven was also enamored with the deep house scenes in both cities. In 1997, he started recording deep house records with various collaborators on timeless cuts like "Gabriel" and "Watch Them Come." and remixes for Terry Callier on his "Spartacus" EP. In 2002, Peven released his first full-length album on Studio Confessions which was licensed in the US by ABB Records and in the UK by PIAS. The album created a huge buzz in the urban community and was followed by several remixes produced by Peven following the wonderful debut. In 2003, the single "I Can't Believe I Loved Her" was released and was #1 on the dance music charts for the entire summer. It was followed by the European full-length release of "Kissing Game", which saw Peven take on the mantle of producer, showcasing vocalist Billie Jewel and Larry Billups Jr. on percussion. Now in 2005 Studio Confessions presents "The Latest Craze" A sweet, homespun space soul set -- transcending the neo soul scene into a hugely catchy, warm realm all his own! As with the best of his other records, Peven's way of spiraling a fairly basic groove into something HUGE is nothing short of amazing. All tracks written, performed and produced by Peven Everett.

Just Pure Pleasure!.......2007-05-08
It is something to be said for an artist who can speak only a few words and tell a complete story. Peven is that artist. He is my idol and I cannot fully explain how much his music impacts me but he is just full circle as an artist. His music, melody, vocals message just resignates so true. World Love is just what we need. I know you testin me. Every track touches a cord and makes you reflect on those times. His is deeper than the ocean and I mean that. I just hope that I will have the pleasure of meeting him one day.
"Smooth, Soulful, and Classic!".......2004-05-04
The first full and official album from Peven Everett -- a professional release that pulls together the strands from his underground, self-released albums of the past few years! After knocking around as a young up and comer on the east coast scene, Peven went underground in Chicago a while back, and only issued titles in handmade format, on CD-R releases with little or no artwork. This album's the first one that he's issued with professional packaging, formatting, and recording quality -- and it's the culmination of a number of years of woodshedding in the studio. The set's great -- and builds off of tracks that Peven recorded for his previous self-issued Speed Of Light CD, plus new tracks -- all produced and presented to perfection, in a setting that's sure to rise Peven's star as much as we've been hoping. The whole thing's wonderful -- smooth, soulful, and classic -- in a mode that we haven't heard since D'Angelo or Omar first came onto the scene. Titles include "World Love", "Everyday Girl", "They So Cold", "I Can Give It", "Sankofa", "Say It Back", and "I Wanna Make Love". (Reviewed at www.dustygroove.com)
Great work!!!.......2003-12-05
What do you get when you mix together a handful of Rahsaan Patterson, a couple tablespoons of D'Angelo, a pinch of Musiq, and a fresh approach to musical delivery? Chicago native Peven Everett is the result. After a series of independent releases void of packaging and personnel (Kissing Game, Speed Of Light and My Brazil), this ABB Soul release comes with artwork, credits and quality production. Peven's musical direction is steeped in Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, Latin Grooves, World Music and elements of Classic Soul. His voice is simple and uncluttered, somewhere between the lines of the aforementioned artists. This ten song collection showcase the fact that Peven can handle varying styles of music, without coming off as contrived. There is really not one moment not worth investigating, but highlights include the hip-hop inflected They So Cold, the infectious You Are To Me (originally titled Consuela), the melodically repetitious Testin' Me, and the delightful One More Time. Peven is credited for writing, arranging and producing the entire project, an impressive feat for an artist whom I can't wait to hear more from. This CD will definitely become an underground success, but may even make it's way into the mainstream.
P.E. has good grooves.......2003-01-21
The sound is definiately Peven...His "Studio Confessions" release should have included his underground hit with Roy Davis' "Gabrielle"
Something funky and fresh.......2002-11-21
This Chicago native has really done it. I first heard him on the Giant Step Records Soul Sessions II compilation, and I was on a search from that point on to find his CD. Once I found it, I was not disappointed. "Everyday Girl" and "You are to me" are my personal favorites, but his CD definitely has something for everybody. I think if a comparison was necessary, I would put him alongside the likes of Rahsaan Patterson. But his style is definitely all his own, his vocals are really smooth, and his instrumentation on it's own is stellar. This is one that you would definitely throw on at a dinner party or social that will keep the convo and drinks flowing, as well as the steppers stepping.

Customer Reviews:
Terrific quasi-ambient music; cruddy packaging.......2000-09-25
Why, why, oh why did this two-disc set have to come out in two individual jewel cases bound by a paper sleeve that you have completely and utterly destroy to get to the contents? That wouldn't be so bad if the sleeve in question didn't have information about the contents not found on the individual jewel-case graphics. Ah, well, no matter. Enclosed are two discs of great techno, ambient or whatever the heck you want to call it. Drum-machines and synths clicking along merrily in the background while, on top, Nelson's guitar leads scurl and bop all over the place. He claims he did it all for fun and that's what it sounds like. Real nice, but lose that outer sleeve!!
WOW!.......1999-05-01
Phenomenal recordings, perhaps Bill's best ever (with the exception of "Satellite"). Despite Bill's perennial disclaimer regarding recording conditions (home studio, ancient tape recorder, etc.) sound quality is excellent. The 2 song intro to disc 2 blew me away, with the latter cut "Bird Ornaments" possibly my all time favorite. PS. the CD graphics are supurb, too.
'Confessions' is a well produced 2 CD set.......1998-07-09
Confessions of a Hyperdreamer is a step in the right direction as far as Bill Nelson's celestial and worldly observations go. His work keeps improving on the production side and his song writing is spell-binding. Only for the dreamers!
