About the Artist
--Rachelle Ferrell: One of the most original and acclaimed singer/songwriters of the past decade. "Nothing In The Middle" is a brand-new song, recorded live to devastating effect in the spirit of Donnie Hathaway. This track will be released in Rachelle's upcoming CD this fall.

-- Rahsaan Patterson: Equally at home in the realms of R & B, jazz and dance music, his lyrical singing and outstanding songwriting cannot be pigeonholed. This track comes from his brilliant new solo album, just released in the UK and projected for a Summer 2004 U.S. release.

-- Zap Mama: The creation of the multi-talented Marie Daulne, a singer of Belgian/Zairean descent.. "Mis Q-N" comes from their upcoming album to be released on Luaka Bop.

-- San Francisco-based Ledisi has built a national and international reputation on the strength of two self-released albums and some incendiary performances blending jazz, gospel, funk and more in a mix that leads some to compare her to Chaka Khan. "So Right" is a mesmerizing track previously available only on her limited-edition release Feeling Orange/Feeling Blue.

-- Tony Rich hit the scene with the original sound of his million-selling debut Words, which showcases his exquisite songwriting and interpolation of acoustic guitar into an R & B context. "Let Me" is taken from his unfairly overlooked 2003 CD Resurrection.

--Me'Shell Ndegeocello, bass player extraordinaire as well as distinctive singer/songwriter, has forged a different direction with every recording. "Andromeda & The Milky Way" is a lush romatic song taken from her dub-heavy Comfort Woman album.

-- Adriana Evans made a splash with her 1997 eponymous debut album and then disappeared on a global odyssey that included substantial time in Brazil. "Remember Love," taken from her yet-to-be-released new album, shows the Brazilian influence as it melds a Brazilian feel with a hip-hop vibe.

--Rosie Gaines first came to prominence as keyboard player and vocalist with Prince, who went out of his way to showcase her prodigious talent. "My Man" is her unique take on Billie Holiday's "Lover Man."

--Hil St. Soul (pronounced Hill Street Soul) led by Zambian-born, UK-based Hilary Mwelwa, has scored major U.S. airplay in both urban and contemporary jazz realms. The sheer beauty of Hilary's voice matched with the consistently high-quality of her songwriting make for a winning formula drawing on hip hop, R & B and classic soul as seen on "Shine" from their 2004 Shanachie debut Copasetik & Cool.

--Amp Fiddler played keyboards as part of George Clinton's P-Funk All-Stars from 1987 - l996 and did session work for the likes of Prince and The Brand New Heavies. "Eye To Eye" recalls Sly of the "If You Want Me To Stay" era.

--Keyboardist/vocalist Olu scored major airplay with the moving, Stevie-Wonder-esque "Sista Why?" The quality of the lyrics as well as the rippling melody makes it difficult to understand why Olu did not break through.

--Eric Roberson's greatest success to date has come from his songwriting, having had his songs recorded by Musiq (Soulchild), Jill Scott, Case, Will Downing and more. He dueted with Jill Scott on the Down To Earth soundtrack in 2001. But he is a moving singer in his own right as demonstrated by "I Have A Song," which was featured in the BET film Prison Song.

--Andreus, recently a recipient of a rave review in Rolling Stone, amply displays the influences of his heroes Curtis Mayfield and Bob Marley on his debut CD Street Troubadour. "Rebellious Love" melds all these influences into a very affecting track.

--Positive Flow is the collaboration between UK vocalist Donna Gardier, who tours with Sting, and producer/songwriter Jesse Rueben Wilson. Jesse's tracks blend hip-hop, jazz, and house music while Donna's vocals inject pure soul. "Sunflower" is a sublime, jazz inflected piece from their debut album on Shanachie Can U Feel It?

Product Description
Soul Satisfaction is the first neo-soul compilation to feature both high-profile artists alongside emerging cult favorites. It uses the term "nu-soul" to emphasis the progressive nature of the music it presents. A number of the tracks on it have not been exposed previously. It mixes widely-acclaimed artists such as Rachelle Ferrell, Zap Mama, Rahsaan Patterson, Tony Rich Project and Me'Shell Ndegeocello alongside overlooked talents such as Adriana Evans and Rosie Gaines and emerging forces such as Hil St. Soul, Amp Fiddler and Ledisi. As such it is a snapshot of a spectrum of fascinating, challenging artists who give the lie to those who say the current music scene lacks quality artists.

4 out of 5 stars A Very Nice collection.............2004-11-16

this collection of "Nu-Soul Music" is a hot one. most of the songs have been released already but when they are put here together, it a lovely thing! the artist on this cd go from the "famous" (ZAP MAMA, Me'SHELL NDEGEOCELLO,RACHELL FERRELL) to the "almost famous" (RASHAN PATTERSON,OLU AND TONY RICH), to the "who the hell is that" (POSTIVE FLOW AND ANDREUS)....plus those artist with an underground following (LEDISI,ERIC ROBERSON, HIL ST. SOUL).....of the 14 tracks, the ones that stood
out for me where:

1. Andreus-Rebellious Love (never heard of the brother but the song is nice)
2. Ledisi-So Right (i love her music, she can do no wrong)
3. The Tony Rich Project-Let Me (this song is HOTTT!!)
4. Rachelle Farrell-Nothing In The Middle (it was recorded live and Rachelle shows her vocal skills!)
5. Zap Mama-Miss Q-N (the lyrics of this song are deeeeep!)
6. Me'Shell Ndegocello-Andromeda & the Milky Way (the title is enough!)

im not saying the rest arent good, these are just the songs that moved me. im sure they will move you as well. the cd is really worth pickin up. ONELOVE
