Heather Park is not what you expected. She dreams in pictures. She sings with soul.
Soul of a woman, eyes of a child, a voice that exudes warmth, and a tone that invokes you to keep listening. Her music has a lyrical intellect, with a soul thats pure hip-hop. Her velvety voice is laced with a soulful edge, her songs transcend genres and embodies a style all its own. Amidst rich, moving harmonies and vocal arrangements, her songs explore aspects/angles of love and life in a voice of rare sincerity.
Her sound is unique, drawing from the eclectic mix of her musical influences. A classically trained pianist, she grew up listening to everything from hip-hop, R&B, folk, pop, and even country music. There is no simple explanation for her soulful singing. "I honestly don't know where it comes from. I wish I had an easy answer. Its just something thats always been inside of me. I don't know how to sing any other way."
She was introduced into the music scene in 2002, when she made a choice to pursue music over going to graduate school, much to the disapproval of her parents. While working at a deli in New York City, her demo caught the attention of the programming director of New York's Hot 97, and so began her musical career.
Through a chance meeting, she met producer and songwriter Steve Francis (Stush Music) and an immediate creative connection was formed. "It was a blessing to find someone who shared my vision and who allowed me the room to grow and find myself as an artist."
From their creative union, grew a project that was not unique to any one genre but drew from all of them. "I realized a lot of my discomfort came from trying to fit in to external notions of what I should sound like, how I should sing. Now, I've stopped trying to comply and learned to just be."
With the release of her debut album "Dream In Pictures, Heather has established herself within the industry. Her album is an eclectic blend of styles and captivating vocals. Shes been featured in Jade Magazine, Asiance magazine, Asianmusicsource.com, and has performed on Imaginasian TV.
"Its a never-ending lesson, learning to love the skin youre in. Im certainly no exception. The songs in Dream in Pictures are an honest reflection of my heart and mind. Its such indescribable bliss to be able to write and sing music that finally resonates with your soul. I hope they resonate with your soul, too.

For those who want the most remembered passages of classical music's best-loved works, here's a package for you. On this bargain priced double-CD, you'll find music from 40 different classical composers; for the most part, the recordings excerpted here are some of the very best. Of course, you only get one Bach sampling (Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, played by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra) and one Mozart (A Little Night Music conducted by Herbert von Karajan), but this is still a nice collection--perhaps the starting point for a budding collection of classical music. This set's downfall? Unfortunately, though the liner notes discuss the evolution of classical music chronologically, the tracks are programmed in alphabetical order by composer's last name. This makes for some startling transitions! Emil Gilels's reflective performance of the Adagio from Beethoven's "Moonlight" sonata is followed by the crashing cymbals and bombast of Carmen's "March of the Toreadors," a recipe for a heart attack if there ever was one. Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08
The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!
I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.
The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

While it is impossible to really squeeze The Very Best of Janet Baker onto just two CDs, this two and a half hour anthology is a fine portrait of the British mezzo-soprano. Central to CD 1 is Elgar's Sea Pictures, a definitive account with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir John Barbirolli. While other British music is represented by Vaughan Williams's "Linden Lea," Britten's "Corpus Christie Carol," and Warlock's "Pretty Ring Time," CD 2 balances the program with 10 Schubert songs accompanied at the piano by either Gerald Moore or Geoffrey Parsons, which range from "Ave Maria" to Shakespeare. The set lends equal weight to orchestral and more intimate song, as well as to works in English--a very moving reading of Handel's "He was despised" from Messiah--and European landmarks, including Mendelssohn's On Wings of Song and Brahms's Alto Rhapsody, the latter with a superlative London Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Adrian Boult. In an age of technically dazzling but sometimes bland singers, this release is a reminder of emotionally intense musicianship that retains vocal clarity and commitment to the composer's intentions over superstar ego. Now then... In my eyes, this CD recieved 5 stars because of (what else!) the music. The quality of the music to be more specific. The sound of it was great and the selection of the pieces was pure genius. My personal favorite would have to be a three-way tie between Bach's Toccata and Fugue, Dukas' Sorceror's Apprentice, and Stravinsky's The Right of Spring.
I will leave you tonight with one final thought... Is it just me, or are most of the pieces from "Fantasia"? At least 7 (!) of the pieces are from that age-old classic. I think it's funny that they are on a collection such as "The Most Frightening Music in the Universe". And could the cover art be any worse?!
All in all it is a great CD to add to any collection. (and cheap!) Thanks!
