    Album Description

It all happened so quickly. Or so it seems. One day Sheed, Meany and Fat were grease monkeys at a makeshift garage in their Bowen Homes neighborhood, the next they were swiftly-rising hip-hop stars, progenitors of a growing musical movement they call ``hood rock.'

But like most overnight successes, Shop Boyz's rise to fame took many years. Cousins Demetrius "Meany" Hardin and Richard "Fat" Stephens grew up with best friend Rasheed "Sheed" Hightower in the notorious Bankhead area of Atlanta, the stomping ground of some of the city's most successful hip-hop artists. They worked on cars, hustled, did whatever they could to make ends meet and when their work was done for the day, they turned to their true passion: making music. Their unique, groundbreaking style didn't go unnoticed.

Within four months of its release, "Party Like A Rockstar" set off a frenzy of activity at radio and clubs throughout the southeast and spread like wildfire across the country. The electrifying song with its contagious hook appeals to the spirited, carefree rocker in all of us - from school children and working class dads to hard-core hip-hoppers and blue-haired, Mohawk-wearing Punk Rockers. From note one, excited fans begin strumming air guitars, crowd surfing and building mosh pits that rival those of any major rock concert.

It was the perfect introduction to their unique brand of music. As for their definition of the newly-created sub-genre known as `hood rock, Sheed says, "It's got energy and a rock feel to it but at the same time it's all about rocking the club, getting the club charged up.

Shop Boyz's debut CD, "Rock Star Mentality," is a sampling of the creativity and diversity that go into each and every song that this creative collective churns out. Whether they're flossing and having fun on a track like "My Car" or showing respect for their ladies on "She Knows," Shop Boyz tell new stories in new and exciting ways. "Rain Dance," a sure standout, is bound to inspire some new moves on the dance floor. "It's a lot of energy," says Meany. "I think people are gonna like it because you gotta dance to it. It's another movement." And a group favorite, "Rollin'," is a track the guys swear is actually hotter than their blazing "Party Like A Rockstar."

5 out of 5 stars BOOTY! (The Final Chapter).......2007-02-04

With the rise of the iPod and other mp3 devices, CD sales are at an all-time low, and with only two copies of Monster Booty left, it looks like this could be my last review for this CD. I don't know how many times I can rave about this CD...R.Kelly pisses on little girls and has a song entitled Bump N' Grind on here. This CD can set the mood for any occasion...sex, late night booty calls, clubbin', pre-game, sex, dinners with the family, etc. Baby Got Back sets the tone of the CD right from the first track, and it continues throughout the album with other great hits, such as Wiggle It, Do Me!, Da Booty, Pull Up To The Bumper, and Booti Call. My first review for this album was 6 years ago, and throughout those 6 years, my taste in music has changed, but if there's one CD I can always pop in and listen to, it is Monster Booty. If I still haven't convinced you to purchase this CD, do yourself a favor and use the Amazon Music Sampler tool and listen to Da Butt. It should speak for itself. If you have never tasted brown sugar before, listening to this CD is as close as you can get. I hope you take my reviews into consideration and purchase this album. SHIZZAM!

WOW!!! This album is great. If you ever sang along to some of the music themes to Monday Night Football this album is for you. It is filled with quite a few older songs and not many sports themed songs. I enjoy it but I can see how some people might not enjoy the selections. Make sure you check the song titles before you buy.

Takes you back to the real booty poppin music. You will listen to it over & over & will share it with every friend you have!

    3 out of 5 stars Decent Jam.......2003-03-22

This is a decent combination of a some songs you can't help but get jammed up from ("Wild Thing" and "Whoomp") and some dreadful songs that should never have been made (you hearing this George Clinton?). If you want something to work out or clean house too, this passes the grade. But there are better compilations out there ie jock jams.

5 out of 5 stars Great Tunes from the Late 80s, early 90s.......2002-12-21

Fun CD. Keeps the music, beat, and feet going! :)

5 out of 5 stars Good tunes and memories for a 30 year old!.......2002-12-21

This is a great cd for dancing around and cleaning the house. I'm 30(ish) and all the songs are from MY era. This is not a CD for today's teens, but more for Teens at Heart that still like Shaking Da Booty. :)

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest CD for butt shaking!!!!.......1999-02-18

The only way to describe BOOTY JAMS is to think of the most provocative and funky R&B/DANCE records of the mid 80's to the mid 90's with humor involved. It is an ATOMIC BOMB for getting any party started. I had to buy 2 extra CDs due to family members who snatched mine.

      4 out of 5 stars Old Skool.......2005-10-15

I have MC Shy D's first OG on cassette. In the shower, I still bump his muzik and re-live the old skool lyrics I grew up to when I was a kid. I'm now 24 and still enjoy listening to it as much as I did back then; even more now cuz I can appreciate the muzik and dig what it is he's rappin' about.

      2 out of 5 stars Rice Krispies.......2005-09-07

On his Greatest Hits, I was expecting to get a clean CD of songs that were taken from the original masters or reel-to-reels, but the first 9 songs were recorded off of vinyl.

I gave this CD 2 Stars because you can hear all of the snap, crackle, and pops that expect to hear on old records. If this might be a concern of yours, then buyer(s) beware...

      5 out of 5 stars Atlanta...that's where I stay....classic rhymes!!!.......2004-07-30

This is a real groundbreaking compilation that every hip hop fan should digest in full. You have to realize that MC SHY D was the first of his kind. You have to credit him with the fact that he was the first rapper from the south who had some originality. His skills, sound and style predated 2 LIVE CREW, of whom were his label mates.

He gives props to Atlanta in his music constantly -- he wasn't from the East Coast, which during his time, dominated hip hop.

It is important to note that his DJ Mike Fresh, had an incredible amount of talent. He could scratch (listen to "I Will Go Off Part II"), throw in dope samples (like in "Atlanta, That's Where I Stay"), and was a huge factor in the success of the immortal jams that this release contain!

The beats have heavy, peppy bass with fast 16th note hi-hat taps, almost like a pre-booty bass feel. SHY D himself usually sounds like he's about 16 years old.

MC SHY D, a figure that is often overlooked in the annuals of hip hop, who deserves way more credit than he gets.

Get this release and get educated!!!

3 out of 5 stars I didn't know they were still around--I knew them back when!.......1999-12-07

I just gave the CD three stars as an even review; I've never heard a recording of theirs. Funny thing, though: Back in 1988 or '89, I met them (there were two of them). I lived in Atlanta, and my mother's friend and roommate was either dating one of them or good friends with one of them. Anyhow, they came over to the house one evening, and they met my mother and I. I, about four or five at the time, had no idea who they were (Musically, I still don't--I just looked their names up on a whim after remembering old songs I liked; I had no idea they had enough songs for a "Greatest Hits" CD). I had never heard their music (although they brought their album and may have autographed it), and didn't care to. I didn't like rap, and I guess I had my head on straight for a kid, because I still don't and most likely never will. But they were very nice guys. I remember I was reading my favorite children's book when they arrived, it was called "Just Like Me," and about a pair of twin sisters. And I remember while one talked to my mother and her friend, the other came over to the table and read the book aloud with me. Such nice people; I'm glad to hear they're still doing their thing.

        5 out of 5 stars Long ago...........2005-12-24

My friend let me use his tape in 1990 cuz I had 6 10's in my car...I was the only kid with a system in his car @ school!!! I still bang this album to this day. You want BASS, Ya got BASS, This CD is a must have!!!

4 out of 5 stars Lower Than Dynamite........2005-10-23

There are some tears in my eye. I decided to throw the baby out with the bath water. My Christianity deemed it necessary that I throw away all my tapes, to much cussing and violence, but the Bass music should have stayed (I think).

There were 2 versions of Lower Than Dynamite, one with a rap on top of it (MC Madness, he was fairly decent better than RX Lord, by not T Issam or whatever his name was). Both version were as we used to say the bomb. I loved this album, but I cannot give it a 5, the 5 is reserved for one Bass album and that is Ain't No Doubt About It. The album has to me what has to be the greatest Bass song of all times Feel the Bass 3. Please see my review of that album. I will spill all I think of Bass music there.

5 out of 5 stars Years ahead of its time.......2005-09-13

I remember picking this up years ago and I still listen to it today Magic Mike is one of the greatest DJs of all time utilizing James Brown era funk and a serious old school vibe this will be in your player for years to come. Mike opened the door for rappers like ludicris and trick daddy but never really got the credit he deserved. If you do not own a Magic Mike album you are seriously missing out this is the best the old school has to offer

5 out of 5 stars This BASS CD in the name of the game........2004-11-23

This CD has a few the best low end booming bass tracks period.
I cannot tell you how many speakers this has blown.
        User beware.

5 out of 5 stars Old School Bass.......2002-06-09

This is one of the first bass records that I ever owned. It is still one of the best. I have played this for a few of my old friends. They have all commented that they cannot believe that they are hearing it. It takes most of them back to a time when there were very few people that listened to this music. Magic Mike was the best and still cannot be forgotten. I just recently played this CD for a new friend of mine. He must have been about about 6 year old when this record came out. He had never heard it before. He is what I would consider a modern day bass head. He could not beleive all of the little sound bites that he has heard in the new bass music that was on this CD. That is why this is the best. Feel the bass. It is still a speaker terror upper no matter what version you listen to.

5 out of 5 stars if you have the system buy the cd.......2002-08-23

this cd is definatley worth buyin if you have a decent stereo either in your car or even at home, but its not realy worth buying if you onlu have a bog standard system. so if you have a decent system preferably with a sub woofer then it is definatley worth buying this cd for seeing just how good your system is and what it cam do. have fun, i know i am.
