Decent.......2007-01-23

This CD contains several hits from The Gap Band, P-Funk (George Clinton), Lakeside and The Ohio Players. The sound quality is amazing; playing in my car (no subs) or in my room, this CD bumps. I would not select this CD for the casual funk listener however. I just recently began enjoying some of the songs on here after I became familiar with the artists' work (Ohio Players, Gap Band). I saw this because some of the songs deviate more than others from the original studio cuts. The energy and excitement usually is not present in studio recordings ... Although the Ohio Players sound amazing live and in the studio. I give it a four just because SEVERAL songs just don't do it for me.

Having listened to the samples, I can say without a doubt that this is repackaged material that was previously released on Intersound records. I'm still giving it 5 stars since the music can't be beat. Don't sell yourself short by getting this cd.
Do yourself a favor and buy the original released cds instead if you want the complete track listings. The Con Funk Shun songs were off the Live For Ya A** [LIVE] cd. Same for the other artist: The Gap Band- Live & Well [LIVE], The Ohio Players- Ol' School [ENHANCED] [LIVE], Lakeside- Invasion (Greatest Hits Live '97) [LIVE] and Cameo- Nasty [LIVE].

oh Buddy hearing the funk live is like having all the Kool aid you can drink&watching anything with Pam Grier in it.all the way Live&Slamming.funk Bands back in the day would bust your Guts with the thick funk.this collection showcases Great Musical bands&the Rawness&feel Good Soul of Da Funk.

More dynamic jazz excursions.......2003-12-10

Volume 3 (5/11/02, Fox Theatre, Boulder, CO) is energetic and tasty. "Thursday" is a slice of Rhodes-fried groove that sounds like Steely Dan with Prince on vocals. "Stoked On Razaki" is a frantic exercise in speed-jazz that features Jamie Janover on his custom-made "Mini-Kit", adding more depth to the undulating rhythm. The whole thing ends with an instrumental cover of Madonna's "Material Girl" that spans 17 minutes. Without a doubt, this version explores every possible reach of this precious melody of the 1980's. Using the vocal lines as a road map, Haque urges the band into several sections of differing dynamics that range from thick and funky to tear jerking. You won't know whether to laugh or cry by the time Levy inserts a delicate keyboard solo into the sonic space that the band has wrestled out of this odd cover song.
