Amazon.com

The first single off of R. Kelly's TP-2.com, "I Wish," might be a moving memorial to a dead friend, but the main theme on his latest CD is sex. The first tip-off that Kelly has left the spirit world to concentrate on nookie is the CD title, which refers back to his mid-'90s smash 12 Play. Back then, Kelly made his name with a take-no-prisoners (if somewhat obvious) sensuality. Yet now this loveman sounds conflicted and ill at ease. He might offer to "Strip for You," he might lay claim for a girl who's "Like a Real Freak," he might even promise his lady "The Greatest Sex," but his manner is so tentative and so self-reflective it makes one wonder how hot the loving could really be. Kelly has been expanding his creative repertoire over the course of his past two CDs, and his latest motif is a sort of stream-of-consciousness style that constantly returns to the main thrust of the argument: a circular groove. At its best (the triumphant "I Wish"), this style is emotional and emphatic. At its worst, or when Kelly insists on using it over and over, it's the musical equivalent of having a drunk poke you in the arm repeatedly to make his point. On "Fiesta," Kelly literally builds a song out of this annoying rhythmic tic, and it's like he's on a treadmill, never getting anywhere. TP-2.com is raw and romantic, but it becomes too redundant to truly sustain the passion. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars Modern Marvin Gaye.......2007-02-01

This is absolutley the best r&b album. You have to admire R's honesty in his lyrics. Lyrics such as "when you leave up out my room, you're gonna be wakin bowlegged". This is the best music to f%$! to. Love it!!

4 out of 5 stars 12 Play Part 2.......2006-03-07

R. Kelly's 12 Play from 1993 was one of his best albums in the catalogue, the second version of it released in 2000 wasn't as good as his albums flwless first album but it was good nonetheless. The both album's main theme is sex and despite some non-sexual songs like "I Wish" and "Storm Is Over" this song is mostly about that subject. While it isn't as good as 12 Play it's great compared to T-3 and an album to put on the purchase list.

It all starts with "Strip For You", a laid-back sexy song that suits R. Kelly perfect. "R&B Thug" is slicker and more uptempo, "The Greatest Sex" is fullfilling the album concept, but it's not among the better songs of this album. "I Don't Mean It" and "Just Like That" are both slow jams, the first one however is more romantic though. "Just Like A Freak" is another sex song, If you hadn't understood that? but this song feautures rap and latin influenced music and it's unique to this album. "Fiesta" is also latin-influenced and on this album version Jay-Z doesn't appear. "Don't You Say No" yet another so-so slow jam.

"One Me" is also a slow jam, I think this is one of the better. "I Wish" is defenitely the best, but ironically it's not about sex at all, but about friends that died. A hit single and a very touching mid tempo song when R. Kelly shows his best side. "A Woman's Threat" is a midtempo, and also single released I think. "I Decided" continues the sexy trend. "I Mean (I Don't Mean It)" is a midtempo where he perform backround lyrics for himself. "All I Really Want" is great soul, but it sounds more like a song made for Tyrese then the usual R. Kelly song. "Feeling On Ya Booty" is surprisingly good, but dirty. The last song "Storm Is Over" is the second best, only after "I Wish" and neither a sex song, it reminds me of "I Believe I Can Fly", a ballad that also feautures gospel choirs.

So, what's the verdict?. A good album defenitely, You knew the dilemma already before you bouht it, so don't expect this to be a "R Kelly" or "R" but surprisingly enough it features a few non sex single and they are actually some of the best on the entire album. It may feature a few too many songs (17 if we count the remix of "I Wish" and some are not as good as others, but on the other hand the high points lift this album to great votes. Not one of his best, but not too far behind. If You're New start with the eponymous "R. Kelly" or "R".

Album Description

R. Kelly has had 26 Top 40 hits, won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2001 MOBO Awards, and his anthemic smash 'Ignition Remix' entered the charts at No.1. TP.3 Reloaded features a 5-part musical soap opera entitled "Trapped...In The Closet." In typical daring R. Kelly style he has experimented with the art of storytelling and lyrics to create something very unique. The concept behind the soap on "Trapped...In The Closet" comes from back in the day, when the radio was the only entertainment available. Families would sit round the radio to listen to shows and plays for evening entertainment.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars R. Kelly- TP3.Reloaded.......2007-05-28

Well i was really excited for this album. I was literally counting down the days for the release. And maybe that is why it did not appeal to me that much. I mean it was far from bad, but i built it up to much. I was expecting way better. He has changed his sound so much over the last few years from Chocolate Factory and TP2 maybe thats why it was a bit dissapointing. First of all the "Trapped In The Closet" set was cool for the first three chapters and then that got old real fast. But there are a few standout tracks dispite some filler. The perfectly produce "Kickin It With Your Girlfriend" is so mellow and relaxing with its mid tempo beat, while the same can be said about "Sex Weed" only with that signature sexy edge to it. But the mistake is when you get to "Girls Go Crazy". This song is down right awful, its like listening to dogs bark. Kells can do alot better than this. This album is heavily driven on sex and even for R this album has a little to much of it. I mean some of the songs are good but the obsession with sex does get old. The only time it really seems like he wonders away from it is for the not so appealing Trapped In The Closet series, which also gets old REAL FAST. The bottom line is that this album had some major anticipation and i did not live up to it. It was an alright album when most were expecting something way better. But thats not to say its not worth buying if you are an R.Kelly fan. Because despite it being a bit over the line on the sex tip, it still has some decent songs to be played. Only buy if you are a big R.Kelly fan!!!

3 out of 5 stars It does not start out with a bang it ends with one.......2007-01-11

After hearing Happy People, its certain that R Kelly needs to step it up or step off. Even though R Kelly is a great singer that leaves a definite impression with each album he makes, Happy People showed that he was not going to be the same. This album follows suit. Trapped In The Closet(chapters 1-5) is the best and most creative song R Kelly ever made. The story of infidelity(with more twists and turns than your average soap opera) will keep you listening to all 5 chapters of Trapped In The Closet with no hesitation. Unfortunately the rest of this album is not as spectacular. Standout Tracks: PLAYA'S ONLY(feat Game), HAPPY SUMMERTIME(feat Snoop) and SLOW WIND are all good club records. TOUCHIN with Nivea is a decent but explicit love jam but none of these songs is touching the epic Trapped In The Closet(chapters 1-5). Filler: Sex in the kitchen and Put my T-shirt on are flat out dull, Remote control is a dumb love jam with a corny concept, Sex weed and (Sex) Love is what we makin are just as bad as the titles and Turn it up is so wack it makes you hate reggaeton. Other disposable songs: Girls Go Crazy(if this what R Kelly and Birdman's Best of Both Worlds would have sounded like then the whole world dodged one hell of a bullet!), Reggae Bump Bump(just as bad as it sounds), Hit It Till The Morning(all those people on one record and it still sucked),and Kickin It With Your Girlfriend(ran out of ideas for a song). Bottom Line: R Kelly can do much better than this and if he cant its time for him to throw in the towel. Sure all 5 chapters of Trapped In The Closet are great but the rest of this album is not as great as Trapped In The Closet.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2006-12-27

This is a really good CD. I enjoyed it. Most of the songs were good. 2 or 3 songs I really wasn't in to, but overall I really like it. I don't agree with what he does behind closed doors, but I do agree with his music. I will agree with other reviewers about this not being his best CD. I got what I payed for. It was woth it.

I'm begging you DON'T BUY IT.

3 out of 5 stars Talent That Can't Be Denied.......2006-08-15

Everybody has something to say about Kells. One thing is certain: Brother could sing a song about Chicken N Dumplings and it would be catchy. No real hits, save "Slow Wind," which is TIGHT! Trapped in the Closet is unique, but won't make a CD. The sex tracks are beneath his demonstrated potential; give those to Omariando Houston or RayJay or Ying Yangs. Compared to what else is out, he is still the man. No other living popular R&B singer is close (Usher is a distant second).

(disclaimer: the above is in no way a comment on allegations/investigations regarding Mr. Kelly's personal life.)

5 out of 5 stars At his Prime.......2001-07-19

While his roots are definatly in the south, and style of Al green. This is Teddy at his prime. I can remember playing this LP back then at clubs. Put on for a closing song Feel the fire and many a person never left alone. If your a lover of from the heart music this is a must have cd. A lot of people where never aware that teddy was actually the lead singer for Harold melvin and the bluenotes. Who where a very big hit in their own right. What a lot of people unless fans of this gendre did not know is that Harold had left the band years before any huge commercial hits. The lead singer job became teddys and the band continued to realease records under the old name. I still attribute the rise of such greats as Luthor Vandross, Peobo bryson and others to the ground that Al green laid down, and teddy continued. If you love from the heart soul, and have an hour or so to spare as thereis no 3 mins songs here. Then this is a must have cd

Excellent album, "Playas Only" was fenominal along with the dramatic soap opera of "Trapped In The Closet" pts.1-5. Very few of the songs in this album left you bored. well, i finally listened to the tp-3 reloaded cd(thank god i didn't actually buy it) and i have to give it 3 stars. The only thing that kept this cd from getting 2 stars(and people buying it) is the 4 or 5 slow songs that are classic slow songs. When R-kelly tries to do anything else such as reggae it doesn't work. let me break it down for you(excluding playas only and the trapped in the closet saga):

1.Happy Summertime- 2.5/5- when i first heard this song i thought i had put in the happy people cd. Snoop being on the song doesn't help at all.

    2. Sex in the Kitchen- i can't even rate cuz its soo old. it was good when i first heard it like 2 years ago.

3.Slow wind-3/5-its not my favorite but i can really see djs blasting this in the club. Though it is the stronger reggae cut on this cd.

4.Put my t-shirt on-4/5- kinda like sex in the kitchen but without the food. it is a good song though. The beat is very sexy.

5.Remote Control-4/5- i like this song. its very sexy especially with the play on words(u can only imagine).

    6. Kickin it with your girlfriend-0/5- such a very stupid song. its very obvious he ripped off the very much played out Confessions saga with Usher, which usher did better.

7.Reggae bump-1/5- i hate this song. the beat is very wack. he doesn't sing hardly but does that whole talking thing that hes gettin known for. The beat is retarded and i don't mean that in a good way.

8.Touchin-4/5- one of the better songs on the record. its very mellow and slow.

9.Girls go crazy-1.5/5- obviuosly a left over from the botched best of both worlds 2 with baby. horrible song.

10.Hit it till the morning-4/5- nice ridin song. Twista, D.O.D, and the beat really make this song great. This should be his next fast single.

11.Sex Weed-5/5-great song. Once again a song with a play on words but its really very sexy and has a hint of the old R.kelly that we all love.

    12. sex love is what we makin-4/5-classic R. kelly . nuff said

13.Burn it up-3/5- okay reggae but r. kelly needs to stick to what he's known for and leave the reagge to the pros.

    1 out of 5 stars R&B Scrub.......2005-07-07

R.Kelly is clearly one of the most overrated R&B singer/producers working in urban music today. On the production side he'll never hold a candle to the greats like Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Babyface or Quincy Jones. Vocally Kells will never touch Johnny Gill, Brian McKnight, Joe and the late great Luther Vandross. In my opinion TP3: Reloaded has more misses hits and Kells has been on a slow decline since the amazing Chocolate Factory by getting worse with each CD. As with all my reviews I'll do a track by track by breakdown omitting tracks 15 -19 which is the Trapped In The Closet Chapters. Kells sounds horrible on the track vocally and I don't give a rat's ass if he's telling a story, if I want to hear then I'll get a book on tape. Trapped is nothing more than a throwback to radio and movie serials of the thirties that left you with a cliff hanger to the next week. Well here's my review:

1.Playa's Only feat. The Game - Scott Scotrch provides us with a killer beat but the track sounds like Home Alone Part 2 and The Game uses the same rap from How We Do. ** 1/2

    2. Happy Summertime feat. Snoop Dogg - This is one is a little better and gives off more of a laid back style. ***

3.Sex In The Kitchen - This song is two years old and although it's catchy the lyrics are very corny and it sounded better live. ** 1/2

4.Slow Wind - Another song where he's just talking and not Singing, he should have put AnyMore Room on the CD instead of this one, but I already know this is going to be a song for the clubs. ** 1/2

    5. Put My T-Shirt On - Although the lyrics are corny in this one, Kelly finally picks it up with this seductive song. ***

6.Remtoe Control - Another Winner and it's in the vein of You Remind Me Of My Jeep etc. ***

7.Kickin It With Your Girlfriend - Nothing but a trash talking number where Kells talks gibberish. **

8.Reggae Bump Bump - I never really cared for Reggae but this song is actually pretty hot. ***

    9. Touchin - This one needs to be a single. Even though neither Nivea nor Kells is that vocally strong this song is very sexual and one I'd play in the clubs. *** 1/2

    10. Girls Go Crazy - Trash I hope this wasn't what The Best Of Worlds II was supposed to sound like. *

    11. Hit It Till The Morning - Kells hooks up with Chi-town natives Twist and D0D for this one. Twista has a nice verse so that earns the song ***

    12. Sex Weed - Another Corny Pillow Talk song but it's a winner considering it has a nice beat and R.Kelly shows he's the only one who can get away with this. ***

13.Sex Love Is What We Makin - Standard R. Kelly song but nothing special even though it's one of the better slow cuts on the CD. ****

14.Burn It Up - This Reggae ton flavored track is one of the better songs on the CD before you get to that BS that is Trapped.

All in all I would say skip this one and download it unless you're an R.Kelly biter and rider and pick up Raheem DeVaughn's The Love Experience instead.

I am so delighted with this album. I think this is what most jazz fans want but get too infrequently - a beautiful, intelligent, elegant, talented album start to finish. Jimmy Amadie's playing is superb, and together with Phil Woods (whose alto sax performance on "Baby Blue" will send you searching for Phil Woods' CDs), bassist Steve Gilmore and drummer Bill Goodwin, you have a quartet of the highest order - all veteran pros. I don't plan to loan this album out (I don't want to lose it). It's one you can showcase to impress your friends, and in quiet moments, yourself.

        Album Description

Those who know the story of pianist Jimmy Amadie should recognize that "In A Trio Setting" represents not only an artistic triumph but a veritable miracle of will. Amadie, whose career in the 1950s and '60s involved work with such jazz luminaries as Red Rodney and Mel Tormé, has spent the years since virtually incapable of touching his instrument. He suffers from acute tendonitis, an inflammation of the tendons that marks every note he plays with searing pain. As a result, Amadie, who often keeps his hands in braces, has rarely been heard at the keys. Although a prominent presence in jazz education (his harmonic concepts have gained faithful adherents worldwide), the man has barely played in public at all over the past 40 years.

Amadie's previous albums -- the fine solo piano outings "Always With Me" and "Savoring Every Note", in 1996 and '98 -- were assembled piecemeal, painstakingly, track by track. HIs newest release involved an even more rigorous process, taking a full five years to complete. The crucial difference between this and previous efforts is apparent in the title: "In A Trio Setting" documents Amadie's first-ever record leading an ensemble. How that ensemble came to be is a story in itself.

Yet pathos is never the point of Amadie's music. Hear his crystalline touch and buoyant swing on "Love For Sale", and you forget that the man has suffered. Listen to the tender harmonic strokes of "Gone But Not Forgotten", and pain is the last thing on your mind. Ultimately, "In A Trio Setting" is a document not of anguish but overwhelming joy -- the joy of playing, and of hearing music articulated so beautifully, after all these years of silence. So even as Amadie admits he'll soon be heading back to the hospital for more treatment, he enthuses about the results of his labor. "these tuens are live", Amadie says with unconcealed glee. "You can't take that back."

          Album Description

Here we present Teddy's double LP live album (now on one CD, and never before issued in the UK), recorded in Philadelphia in 1978 and Los Angeles in 1979, which also features an exclusive 5 minute interview, and three studio cuts (two of which charted as singles). The live sets include his own biggest numbers performed before an adoring (predominantly) female crowd, as well as a medley of his hits with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. The LA sequence arranges his bedroom numbers in exactly the right order! TP, issued in 1980, was Teddy's fourth studio album and his fourth million seller. It contains two big hit singles, 'Can't We Try', and the signature song, 'Love TKO', as well as songs by Womack & Womack and Ashford & Simpson. Edsel. 2005.

3 out of 5 stars At its best, it's amazing..........2007-07-10

          R. Kelly's 2000 album was one of his most successful and widely influential albums, opening the star to a whole new fanbase, mostly thanks to the excellent hit singles and their following remixes. Following the epic double album R. from 1998, he returned two years later with another very ambitious album. This album is musically as soulful as any R. Kelly project, and the pervading theme through the whole album is sex. The majority of the songs are bedroom jams or vocal conversations with women, his seductive style being the main vibe. But he's at his best when he lets his spiritual side show, and the gospel-tinged tracks are the best on the album. There are five or six songs on here that are among the very best of R. Kelly's career. These songs are uplifting, inspiring, and motivational, otherwise clever and the type of song that exhibits his immense talent. He really is one of the finest talents in R&B, and there are more than a few instances where he flashes his amazing potential. However, between the best tracks, there is a steady supply of definite filler. The album is a lengthy 19 tracks long, and it would be a much superior album if it were trimmed to about 12 (like its predecessor, 12 Play). The first half of the album contains way too many forgettable and predictable tracks, while the second half is stacked with great material. The production is the type of big-budget music you'd expect on an R. Kelly album. This album contains some of the very finest material of R. Kelly's great career, but be ready to sit through some substantial filler to get to it.

The introductory title track opens the album, a short and upbeat opener. "Strip For You" is a forgettable sex song, some early skip material before the very good "R&B Thug." This song is well produced, and R. Kelly sings in a fast, staccatoed style that works nicely. I don't like "The Greatest Sex," a fairly redundant and unmemorable song. "I Don't Mean It" and "Just Like That" are much better; while they're not among the album's best songs, they're solid and enjoyable cuts. "Like a Real Freak" and "Fiesta" are both Latin-influenced club songs, both fall under skip material for me, I wish the Jay-Z collaborated "Fiesta (Remix)" were included on the tracklist instead. "Don't You Say No" emits some nice musical vibes, and "One Me" is a pretty good song too. The album gets great at about this point. The beautiful "I Wish," arguably the finest song of his storied career, is a sad yet uplifting song to a lost friend, speaking of life since their passing. "A Woman's Threat," however, is among the worst songs on this album, six banal and repetitive minutes, and his verses sound like a shopping list. "I Decided" is among my favorites, with a great hook and good performance, "I Mean (I Don't Mean It)" is a little upbeat and funky. I think my favorite song here might be the touching remix to "I Wish," titled "I Wish (To the Homies That We Lost)." R. Kelly does not make remixes like most artists, and his remixes are entirely new compositions of songs, with the only similarities being the similar subject matter. "To the Homies That We Lost" is equally as effective as the original "I Wish," a more personal narrative to his lost friend. The production is beautiful, and this song is excellent. The pretty good "All I Want" comes next, followed by the wonderful "Feelin' on Yo Booty." This infamous song showcases R. Kelly at his seductive best, being humorous and clever despite maybe crossing the line a little here and there. The album closes with another of the finest songs in his discography, the motivational "The Storm Is Over," a well-written gospel-tinged track, complete with a dramatic key change at the end.

When this album is good, it's great, but at its worst, it's redundant and forgettable. One can't deny that this contains some of the very best songs R. Kelly has to offer, and for that fact alone this is an album I recommend. R. Kelly is one of the finest talents in R&B, and much of this album is a great example of this. More economical buyers might just want to buy the half-dozen or so best songs, but overall this is a worthy purchase to make.
