Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
This solo joint from DJ Jazzy Jeff, which follows other "Beat Generation" albums by Jay Dee, Marley Marl, and Pete Rock, sees JJ come up with a textured album steeped in jazz, soul, and funk. Jeff has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the rap game after his time with Will "Fresh Prince" Smith--he started his own production company A Touch of Jazz a few years ago--and his expertise comes shining through in this slickly produced affair, all cavernous bass lines, tight, hypnotic beats, and gorgeously unhurried feel, with guests ranging from the fresh to the famous. Names like Jill Scott, Boyz II Men's Shawn Stockman, J-Live, and ?uestlove from the Roots supply a rich selection of R&B croons and MC flows, and while there's not much for the headbangers here, anyone looking for something silky, soulful, and seductive will find The Magnificent a massive aphrodisiac. --Paul Sullivan

Album Description

The newest album from legendary hip hop DJ and producer, DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Return of the Magnificent is the eagerly anticipated follow up to his well received solo debut, 2001's The Magnificent. Whilst his iconic first album was an experiment in soul-influenced Hip Hop, The Return Of The Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff plows harder (albeit still soulful) ground, this time hooking up with an equally impressive array of artists such as Method Man, Rhymefest (Kanye West's prodigy), Big Daddy Kane, CL Smooth, Raheem DeVaughn, Pos of De La Soul, Kardinal, J Live, Peedi Peedi, Jean Grae and many more.

5 out of 5 stars Robert Mc Neil.......2007-07-22

Hip Hop the way its suppose to be.
Phat beats, real m.c.s spittin' real rymes.
A must for you collection.
For people who don't know, dj Jazzy Jeff is a respectalbe dj
in his own right. Plus he's the man at the control board of
Jill Scott. A lot of these new rapper coming out now days, to
me, don't have any skills. Dj Jazzy Jeff has m.c.s like Method Man,
Rymefest, and Big Daddy Kane just to name a few.
If your looking for a good hip hop cd for the summer, get this one

4 out of 5 stars We talkin bout Practice man!!!.......2007-07-15

Which is what a lot of these rappers and producers need because right now Jazzy Jeff is showin cats how its done. This a solid album with a nice blend of new unsigned artist and artist who are vets in the game. Grae, J-Live, Pos, and Raheem D. don't disappoint in their features. Which boost things up as far as my grade. Meth could've had a better track, but Kardnall came through with a hot joint. Chynablac had the worst feature on the album with bad singing and off key lyrics. JAZZ DON'T EVER WAIST A HOT BEAT LIKE THAT AGAIN!!! However, solid album by the most underated DJ in the U.S. Buy this if you want Real Hip Hop.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you! Someone has to keep HipHop from killing itself ..........2007-07-01

Take this from someone who tags, and hopes to one day DJ/Produce for some great MC's:

-BE WARNED: This is pure Hip-Hop. One of those albums that makes commercial & radio-hiphop lovers frown and condescendingly say," WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?"

-The lyricists on this outing define Jazzy's impeccable taste for HipHop as musical/emotional expression. It's just good music.
Expect nothing but 'Raw & Beautiful' from this one (and definitely listen to the above samples).

-How's the production? This can be answered with some word association:
Pete Rock, DJ Muggs, DJ Premier, J Dilla, Madlib, Buck Shot, 9th Wonder, Magnif, ?uestlove - starting to get the picture?
If not, take a listen to their work too (if you haven't already - hahaha).

Don't file this under CRUNK, SWISHA, CLUB, POP, UNDERGROUND, ART-HOP, TRIP-HOP (or whatever else the many "expert-opinion" music mags are buzzin'these days).

Keep reppin' the "four-elements" (DJing, MCing, Tagging & Breaking).

Peace,
TRINO

5 out of 5 stars Hip-Hop Is Back.......2007-06-27

Sometimes, I wonder if Hip-Hop is dead. Then a CD like this comes along. Great CD by the greatet DJ of all time.

4 out of 5 stars The Magnificent One Has Returned!.......2007-06-26

Hip-Hop has transformed into so many things that it's amazing that originals like Dj Jazzy Jeff are even still in the game. True enough, he was one half of the infamous rap duo that also featured The Fresh Prince (now Will Smith). But Jeff Townes has been doing production work the entire time, eventually forming A Touch of Jazz production company and then releasing his own material. His latest project The Return of the Magnificent is a follow-up to his original 2002 BBE offering The Magnificent and features a slew of new emcees, old Hip-Hop heads, and equally talented soul singers. Twone Dabz gives the metaphor-heavy "Hip-Hop" as well as "Go See The Doctor 2K7" where he gives a near comical account of getting 'burned' by a woman. Kel Spencer does a good job with "The Definition" while Eshon Burgundy and Black Ice ride over the smoothed-out cut "Run That Back." Chinah Blac serenades over "Touch Me With Your Handz," a track that masterfully reworks the beat for the Floetry hit "Say Yes." J Live does an okay job with "Practice" even though it sounds a bit amateurish in its delivery. Blacksmith Records' own Jean Grae takes another stab at establishing her name in the Hip-Hop arena with "Supa Jean." Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall pops up out of nowhere for the album standout "She Was So Flyy." Underrated R&B singer Raheem Devaughn says it all with the aptly-titled jam "My Soul Ain't For Sale." The Hip-Hop pioneers break out full throttle on the album as well. Posdnuos of De La Soul fame represents for the old school on "Let Me Hear U Clap," Method Man gives his lyrical assault for the groove "Hold It Down," Big Daddy Kane shows off his rawness on "The Garden," and CL Smooth showcases his signature flow for "All I Know." And newcomers like Dave Ghetto ("Come On"), Peedi Peedi of State Property fame ("Brand New Funk 2K7") and Rhymefest ("Jeff N Fess") all show and prove on the respective tracks too. The Return of the Magnificent is prime real estate for anybody looking for a well-rounded mix of old and new Hip-Hop, a sprinkling of good R&B, and a touch of Jazz.

2 out of 5 stars Too busy.......2006-07-14

I was hoping for more music - there's just too much storytelling for my and my kids' taste. We love the Beethoven's Wig series and were hoping this would be similar.

5 out of 5 stars good product and fast service.......2005-09-11

5 out of 5 stars what a road trip.......2005-02-21

i bought this item after reading some of the reviews on amazon for my nephews who are 2 and 4 years of age. two months after christmas their mom was explaining how they request the cd everytime they are in the car. she groaned when i was in the car and they boys wanted to show me how much they liked the cd. during the trip i witnessed a mother humming along to the music with her children, the boys singing to excerpts, and an overall execptional learning experience about music, culture, and history. if you are looking for something that all children will like, passes the time on a road trip, and teaches important lessons about life without being pretentious then get this cd, it is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

5 out of 5 stars Mesmerized and moved mom to tears.......2005-01-26

This CD is awesome, the music great, the story captivating. But it's Mozart, you already know about the music. Other reviewers have already discussed the story and I agree with their assessments that it's very good. The reason for this review is to say that my very active, never stopping, constantly in motion 5 year old SAT DOWN AND LISTENED without fidgeting or fiddling for a full 20 minutes and then sat but fiddled for the remainder of the CD. Maybe this is not a big deal to moms of "normal" energy level children -- but this simple act of being still for 20 minutes moved me to tears. I said nothing before putting the CD in, I just put it in while he was doing his running around. Within seconds of hearing the story start he sat down on the floor, crossed his legs, and listened while looking at the speakers. I have never seen this behavior from my child before, ever. Please note that this is a child who is not ADD, he just cannot be still. He listens to hundreds of hours of stories we read to him -- while he's doing something else. He "watches" videos -- while he's doing something else. He reads, while clapping or tapping out the beat of the syllables. I cannot remember my child ever stopping what he was doing to JUST LISTEN. When it was over he said, "That was a cool story," and got up to run around. That was it, but that's high praise from this child. To see my child sitting still for a full 20 minutes, you cannot begin to imagine my awe. I am running right out to get the rest of the series! Bravo to the producers!

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Sad, Really Sad.......2007-05-13

These CDs don't meet the standards that I expect from Elmer Bernstein's wonderful film music.
*It's just Boring*
The ensemble doesn't have the energy one would expect to play "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Man with the Golden Arm". I think the City of Prague and National Youth Jazz Orchestras were bargain orchestras used to make an inexpensive CD set of one of my favorite film composers. The conducting and arrangements were what made this an obviously bad album.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent movie themes antology by ELMER BERNSTEIN.......2007-05-10

Silva Screen Records, presents this antology of the music from the late great composer/conductor ELMER BERNSTEIN, who supervised this recording just before die.
Played the The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and conducted by his one time assistant James Fitzpatrick
Recorded in HDCD and Dolby Surround

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-04-22

it's unfortunate that more tracks weren't able to be recorded as theree was a good 15-20 minutes of space remaining on both discs. Regardless, this is an excellent sampler, especially in conjunction with Varese's Bernstein sampler including rare stuff like the Black Cualdron.

With regards to this silva set, these recordings range back to 1994, with Sons of Katie Elder and True Grit being recorded for a John Wayne CD and Bridge At Remagen for a CD of classic War themes. The Great Escape was also recorded for that CD, but producer James Fitzpatrick opted to record a new arrangement (same with Magnificent Seven). In '97, The Buccaneer for included on a Swashbucklers disc, while Heavy Metal was on the popular 'Space and Beyond' compilation. In '98, the world premiere recording of Airplane first appeared on a DISASTERS film disc. So while it may technically be the world premiere RECORDING it certainly is not the world premiere CD RELEASE of that recording. Ghostbusters was included on Space 3: Beyond the Final Frontier, the second followup to the popular 'Space and Beyond'. Fast forward to 2002 and 4 recordings first appeared on WAY OUT WEST: ESSENTIAL WESTERN FILM MUSIC COLLECTION VOLUME TWO, those being The Comancheros, The Hallelujah Trail, The Scalphunters and The Shootist. Man With the Golden Arm and Walk on the Wild are from Silva's JAZZ IN FILM cd.

The remaining tracks were all newly recorded for this release. They are of course the strongest tracks, seeing as the City of Prague Philharmonic has improved over time. I do wonder though why they did not include the older arrangements of Great Escape and Mag. Seven as bonus tracks.

I also recommend the simultaneously released '40 years of Film Music: Jerry Goldsmith' for another great set honoring a late great film composer.

4 out of 5 stars Great Film Music.......2007-03-09

This is a great recording of some of the best film music ever. From the
great westerns to the Theme from Airplane to music he did for television,
Bernstein was one of the greatest.

It's great! It brings back memories of my dad. He loved John Wayne and the old cowboys of the Magnificent Seven. But it's nice just to listen and relax (it's not all cowboy music).

The robust main theme from Elmer Bernstein's orchestral Western masterpiece quickly outgrew its source material to become one of the most memorable musical advertising hooks of all time, and then an international pops concert staple. But despite its status as American cultural icon and the stuff of film scoring legend, Bernstein's original soundtrack to John Sturges' landmark Western remake of The Seven Samurai ironically didn't see an official release for nearly 40 years (and then only briefly). Now back in print with new notes, Elmer's epochal soundtrack retains its place as one of the all-time greats, a tribute to both Bernstein's sly scoring genius (watch the film without sound and one will quickly see how Elmer drives its otherwise lackadaisical pacing relentlessly forward) and his accomplished, ever inquisitive training as a classical composer. The touchstone here is early Bernstein mentor Aaron Copland, but Elmer also wisely turns to the Mexican folk motifs that inspired much of the former's own landmark concert and ballet pieces. Though Bernstein has often wryly credited Copland with an assist, it's indeed pure Elmer -- and a dazzling example of how the student can sometimes gratifyingly outclass the master. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Elmer Bernsteins's creative vision was superb .......2007-06-27

I grew up viewing films and listening to their music soundtracks by Elmer Bernstein. I was a big fan of other music maestros of that era as well, such as Alfred Newman (How The West Was Won) and Jerome Moross (The Big Country). But Bernstein's original 1960 masterpiece, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and the 1966 sequel RETURN OF THE SEVEN were pure genius! In fact, the music score was actually better than the film itself. The music is what western film afficianados remember most about both movies. His rousing music score got as much publicity as any cast member in promoting THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. Elmer Bernstein was a student of the great Aaron Copeland, whose own "Americana" approach was skillfully brilliant. Elmer Bernstein is a name in music that continues to be synonymous with creativity, versatility and longevity. He wrote the music for over 200 films and TV shows during his career. A longevity feat matched by no other film composer.

5 out of 5 stars The Magnificent Seven Movie Soundtrack.......2007-04-20

Having seen this film hundreds of times it seems since it's release in 1960, it's on my personal top ten list. Having just purchased the soundtrack it might well be the best movie score of all time! I find myself listening to it continuously. It's impossible to appreciate the greatness of this score until you hear it while not watching the film. Elmer Bernstein was truely one of the best and this in my opinion is his best work.

5 out of 5 stars One of the finest film scores ever.......2007-03-18

For years I had been looking for this soundtrack and when Amazon listed it I jumped at the chance. I was not disappointed. Everyone knows the opening theme of the Magnificent Seven, even my wife who is new to the United States.

This is probably the finest work of Elmer Bernstein and I strongly recommen buy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars As Good Version of the Move Classic Sound Track........2007-02-11

Movie Music doesn't get any better than this. And this version of the original sound track does not disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars The Magnificent Seven.......2006-03-03

Great soundtrack from the movie. You can remember scenes from the motion picture as you listen to the C.D. Great sound quality makes it a pleasure to hear.

If you've been following the career of this Belgian trio, you've seen them go from trip-hop (on their debut, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular) to trip-pop (1998's Blue Wonder Power Milk), pitting fan against fan in the process. One thing's for sure: The Magnificent Tree only adds wood to the fire. The "trip" has all but left the pop, leaving behind an assortment of solid, radio-friendly tunes, but hardly anything with the character and charm of their earlier work. It's too bad, really, because though there's some real ear candy here, it's lost in the crinkly wrapper of predictable arrangements and vapid lyrics. Geike Arnaert, given to ethereal coolness on Milk, chooses a more out-front, sultry vocal style on Tree, and while it works on the uncharacteristically rockin' "Jacky Cane" and the torchy "Vinegar & Salt," elsewhere ("Mad About You," "Everytime We Live Together," and the embarrassingly treacly "Out of Sight") it just rings false--too slick for its own good. Touches of the old style appear here and there, notably on the atmospheric, sample-infused "Autoharp" and the dreamy, Dubstar-like "Waves," but they promise more than the rest of the album can deliver. It may be a solid, sturdy Tree, but it's a few branches short of magnificence. --Steve Landau

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-02-08

I don't find this as good as their other albums but if you like Hooverphonic, you should probably have this in your collection.

3 out of 5 stars Descent into lameness..........2006-10-24

As my friend used to put it; this cd marked Hooverphonic's "descent into lameness." "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular" will always be their best. "No More Sweet Music" is a hopefull turn back for them. I have the 2 album version which has a more agressive mix on it- it is better. The newer singer is limited though- she cracks up here and there on the NMSM cd. Their first 2 cd's are great.

5 out of 5 stars Mad about you..........2006-08-06

Initially, I was not sure quite what to make of The Magnificent Tree. They begin in a Kraftwerk mood and then swirl in ethereal ambiance until the song simply disappears into emotion. I like the contrast of the initially cold electronica with the warmth in the ending atmosphere.

Mad about You begins on a more classic note and it quickly becomes apparent that the appeal of these songs are infused with Geike Arnaert's vocal magic. Her voice is soft and sexy like satin sheets slipping across velvet. She brings a sense of emotional reality to the rocktronica selections making this a perfect marriage of edgy electronica and romantic pop.

The Magnificent Tree inspires an increase in volume. The louder you play this the deeper the sounds appear, although the lyrics are somewhat mysterious. Vinegar and Salt has exactly that emotion although it is peppered with contrasts.

Frosted Flake Woods takes you out into nature where a magical forest sets the backdrop for a playful fairy tale mood that borders on eccentric.

Everytime we Live feels more like what I thought Hooverphonic would sound like because the sound sort of feels like it is being captured in a void or sucked out into space. They play with the lyrics in a labyrinth of pulsating sounds.

Out of Space has a slower mood and then Pink Fluffy Dinosours gets playful again like a child's lullaby. L'Odeur Animale has otherworldly appeal with ethereal sweeps and moody lyrics.

Poetic in places, an enjoyable escape. This album seems to be driving in the right lane. If you like Balligomingo, you will love this album. Mad about you sort of stole my heart on this album.

"Into never seen passion, never seen passion
That it why I am so mad about you
Mad about you"

5 out of 5 stars My "Pick of the Litter" for best Hooverphonic to Feb 2006.......2006-02-07

Bought the New Stereo Sound Spectacular when it first released '98, liked it a lot, but it was only one album and they sounded a lot like "Mono", had & I had The Crystal Method with Vegas, Forest For the Trees to compare. Liked 2Wicky on "New Stereo..", movielike sound, the singer. Remembered Hooverphonic, looked for them online, got Blue Power Milk, and Tree. Didn't get into Blue Power Milk on first play, it needs to be played loud or with phones, Dictionary was interesting, nothing else really grabbed me, although I listened to them while waiting in the car for my babe to do her Christmas shopping, listened to my new CDs. Autoharp grabbed me, and Frosted Flake Wood, I've been playing the album repeatedly for the 35-40 minute drive each way, often just restart Autoharp for the first 4 or 5 times before letting Mad about you play, only Vegas and Forest For the Trees got played as much repeat. Like the percussion, plucked strings, the vocal in the center bridge without words, and the sound like trumpeting elephant at the end, each tune is good, some stronger than others, "Pink Fluffy" the least, perhaps "floating through the day" reminds me of being out of work a while, uneasy. Some tunes I like are on Sit Down and Listen to Hooverphonic, just got that, like it, less so, and haven't absorbed No More Sweet Music yet, "Tree" is out of the Car CD player for a while. This album is the peak, I only wish there were more along this line in the future. This is the best in months for me, the Poe, "Haunted" was my prior favorite. Complex sounds, worth the money. Recommended, you won't memorize this album the first few times through.

4 out of 5 stars Sonic Adventurers.......2005-05-21

If you are sonically adventurous, then you will love this CD.

By the way, I know most of the other reviewers hate "Frosted Flake Wood," but it's an acid trip of bubble-gum-pop proportions! If Willie Wonka had a theme song, this would be it! If the Monkees' songs were redone by Massive Attack, they would sound like this! And if you like it, then you should definately pick up Broadcast's latest, "Ha Ha Sound," cause every song on it sounds like "Frosted Flake Wood"!

Come on, ignore "Mr. Doubt" and "give that mushroom some warm food"!

5 out of 5 stars Great Sampling Collection.......2007-07-29

Over the past thirty years, my father and I have been collecting film music on various formats--vinyl, tape, reel-to-reel, CD, recording it from the movie, even. This collection is a great starter for someone who wants to start owning movie music. Lots of big hitters, including Hermann, Barry, Conti, Mancini, and Goldsmith as well as some contemporary scores that are great, too. This is the type of collection I would make for a friend who asks "what scores should I start with?"

4 out of 5 stars Six Decades of Film Music.......2007-05-13

This is film music for the classical music lover. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra presents excellent arrangements of a number of classic film themes (although several pieces of the 56 film classics selected for this 4 CD set are not orchestral arrangements, but rather specialty arrangements). Besides great film composers such as John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, and James Horner, classical composers such as Richard Strauss and Pietro Mascagni make an appearance. On several of the numbers the Crouch End Festival Chorus adds the human voice to the power of the full symphonic orchestra to create true movie magic. If you like the sound of a full symphony orchestra playing some of the most recognized themes ever written, you'll love these CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent collection with fine performances.......2007-03-28

Silva Screen Records, based in England, has been issuing some fine collections of film scores, more in one box than we have the right to expect. This four-CD box contains scores by many of the best writers, including Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Dimitri Tomkin, Kenneth J. Alford (The Bridge on the River Kwai), Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ennio Marricone, John Barry, Nino Rota, John Williams, James Horner, and more. We can all think of additional film scores we wished were included, but then there's no way this collection could be all-inclusive. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, supplemented by Crouch End Festival Chorus on some numbers, does a very competent job...The liner notes give the basic information without any commentary, and as far as I can see, contain only one error. Am I wrong or are tracks 9 and 10 on the fourth CD mislabeled? Track 9, which runs 7:33, seems to have the excitement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (which I did not see) and track 10, which runs 4:22, the more sedate "The Girl with the Pearl Earring (which I also did not see). Listings seem to have them reversed.

5 out of 5 stars "essential film scores from 1939 to 2004 ~ Incredible Music".......2005-05-16

When I think of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, many composers come to mind...you gave the usher your ticket in the theater and sat down, knowingly you were going to get your moneys worth...when the curtain opened and you heard those first few notes...you sat back, watched and listened as the film score and orchestra worked their magic...now we have the ultimate from Silva Screen Classics "The Incredible Film Music Box", featuring a four disc set of the essential film scores of the past 60 years...covering several decades from 1939 through and up to the present 2004

There are compilations and then there are "Compilations" beginning with a classic that even the youngsters today recognize "GONE WITH THE WIND" (1939) (Max Steiner), sweeping score that captures the tragic history of the South during the Civil War, one great cue after another, it doesn't get any better than this, nominated by the Academy for Best Original Score...and closing on Disc 4 with "THE INCREDIBLES" (2004) (Michael Giacchino), the big hit in computer animation from Walt Disney & Pixar that once again pit Super-Heroes against the forces of evil...our family of five Supers prove crime doesn't pay, but box-office receipts do...gotta love it!

Silva Screen Classics as usual, has put quality into this 4-CD-Set featuring The City Of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by Kenneth Alwyn, Bill Ashton, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Mario Klemens, Derek Wadsworth, and Nic Raine. Recorded in "Dolby Surround" with the new technology of "HDCD", this is a "film-score-buffs" dream, one to treasure now and years to come.

Some selections are missing, but when you think of what Silva has included, it is impossible to please everyone...was happy to see "TOUCH OF EVIL" (1958) from composer Henry Mancini, as I feel this composer deserves all the recognition that has been overlooked recently in the music world...This collection is aimed directly at the "Serious Film Score" music fans and collectors...Silva is as always, perfect in every way...just the way we like 'em!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!.......2007-02-23

Great music performed by one of the best orchestras in the world. What more can you ask for?Ron Goodwin is a genius. The music that he wrote is incredible. His best pieces are featured here on this cd. From the great marches like " Force ten from Navarone" to great romantic sounding pieces like "Deadly Stranger" and the love theme from 633 Sqadron. I also really like the selections from "Monte Carlo or Bust"(almost seven minutes long) and the selections from "Those magnificent men in Their flying machines" (six minutes long). Rumon Gamba and the BBC Philharmonic do a great job performing all the pieces, and add another great cd to the Chandos movie series. This is a must have for fans of Ron Goddwin or great film music in general. It well deserves the 5 stars and maybe even more.

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!.......2007-01-10

Ron Goodwin is a fine composer. I particularly enjoyed listening to the music from the early 1960's Miss Marple films, starring Margaret Rutherford. But, to let one know; the Marple music is different from most of the Goodwin scores on this CD. His music is mostly of the rousing march or military variety.

5 out of 5 stars None Better.......2006-10-31

Goodwin's music is outstanding. His World War II scores are outstanding. They have drive and purpose. They sound good too.

4 out of 5 stars those magnificent men in their flying machines.......2005-08-05

This CD provides a range of music mainly from films and concerned with epic war dramas all from the pen of the well known Ron Goodwin. Films such as 633squadron, submarine - X, operation strongbow, force ten from navarone, where eagles dare are just some which are represented. I was particularly looking for the title'Those magnificant men in their flying machines' to add to a slide show of vintage planes in flight and on exhibition. This fitted the bill just fine.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Jazzy jeff has always been the true talent!.......2006-07-16

If you just read E.B's review then that guy is right. Someone at Uni/College recommended me this album and I couldn't believe what I was missing all of these years. Jazzy Jeff is the true talent between Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh prince, he is an amazing DJ, superb scratcher and is an excellent promoter of the hip hop/neo-soul genre. This album has some excellent young rap talent from Philly and some more experienced rappers such as J-Live, last Emperor and Freddie Foxx. There are some excellent soul artists also that sing over hip hop speed beats. This album also has the best and most built up intro to a hip hop album I have ever heard. The samples use a lot of female and male vocals, jazz guitar as well as more synthesized sounds. This really is a complete album from a DJ and producer that gave us Jill Scott and promotes young talent. You can't go wrong with quality of this kind.

1 out of 5 stars for a house head, i only liked one track.......2005-08-26

4 out of 5 stars The title ain't no lie!.......2005-03-18

A truly stunning CD. Best beats and music I have had the pleasure of listenin' to in a while. All bases covered with STYLE.

Buy, listen and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars jazzy jeff.......2005-03-14

this album came out in 2002, and i slept on it for 2 years...always saw it in the stores but never got it. then i found out it was produced under the beat generation label, which also produced classics such as "welcome 2 detroit" (jay dee) and "petestrumentals" (pete rock). so i gave it a try, and it's possibly one of the best albums i've ever heard.

jazzy jeff samples and cuts just right, adds that neo-soul feel-good sound to each one of these tracks, and the help he has on the album, from j-live, to jill scott, are on point. personal favorites include the first 3 tracks, "music lounge," "my peoples," "love savior," "mystery man," "we love in philly,"(remake of roy ayers' 'we live in brooklyn'), and "in time".

3 out of 5 stars smooth!.......2005-03-01

Had to have this one.Heavy beats, all round ensemble of artists and a general good feel of an album.
Was lacking in some ways, just can't put my finger on it though!

Silva Screen Records has brought film music to another level in soundtracks, flawless from the very first note to the last, pure perfection---there is no other label I know of today that could come close to what they have done in film score/soundtrack albums---All in all, this outstanding and moving box set with awesome material will have film music collectors crying for more--- This has to be the essential and definitive in Western-Folk-Lore score compilations, and I should know, this has been my thing as long as I can remember---Who can forget our western heroes - John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Jimmy Stewart, Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck and Gregory Peck. The City of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine and Derek Wadsworth have done an outstanding job re-creating the old west with prairies and openess you feel when watching your favorite western film.

There you have it Buckaroo's---as we drive our herd to Abilene with Nic Raine(conductor) and The City Of Prague Philharmonic riding point, making sure no stragglers are left behind, we must meet our deadline at the rail head---James Fitzpatrick (producer) and Reynold da Silva (executive producer), David Stoner & Peter Compton (release co-ordinators), Rick Clark (mastering) and Damien Doherty (artwork)---giving us a fair price for our beef, this is how the West was, and through the recordings of Silva Screen Records it rides again---so "film-score-buffs", lean back in the saddle and watch the sun come up over the prairie skies---we're back when our country was just coming of age---Wagons Ho!
