This selection of adult-contemporary radio favorites presents a surprising multiplicity of voices. Syrupy pop-R&B ballads fill about half the disc, and while "With You I'm Born Again" (by Billy Preston and erstwhile Motown singer-songwriter Syreeta) and "I Miss You" (the largely forgotten mid-'80s act Klymaxx's biggest hit) haven't improved with time, it's harder to argue with the likes of "Let's Get It On" and even the Quincy Jones-James Ingram collaboration "Just Once." The occasionally raspy tone finds its place here, too, with beautifully pained chestnuts by Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crow standing out. A something-for-everyone collection that will nonetheless leave lots of music fans scratching their heads, Pure Love succeeds at its modest goal of kindling romantic nostalgia. --Rickey Wright
