About the Artist
ALL ABOUT MUTLU

Whether it's the Soul, Funk, Jazz or Hip-Hop, there is something in Mutlu's music that will resonate in your heart, mind and soul. Mutlu is a singer, songwriter and musician of uncommon caliber and soul. He can often be seen playing solo or with a back-up band in and around The City of Philadelphia. His soulful vibe draws comparisons to such legendary performers as Stevie Wonder, Al Green and Prince.

Although born and raised in Philadelphia, Mutlu possesses strong Turkish roots, as he is the first member of his family born in the United States. Growing up in Center City, Mutlu submersed himself in the music scene at an early age, exposing himself to some of The City's best jazz, funk and hip-hop. These influences are clearly evident in his music, which is an eclectic blend of the city's sounds, interwoven with elements of Turkish and world music, creating a vibe that is truly unique on today's music scene. Mutlu is never afraid to serve up a lyrical dish such as "Break it Down", followed by a cover of a Turkish pop song by Tarkan. Mutlu sings purely from the soul which evident on such heartfelt tracks as "Another Story Told" and "Can't Stop". The diversity of Mutlu's music breathes colorful life into every one of his performances. From Turkish Pop, to hip-hop, to a soulful love ballad, there is something in Mutlu's music for everyone, which is quite remarkable given the amount of niche artists currently dotting the modern music landscape.

Product Description
Mutlu-Singer/Song Writer, mixed with some good ole Blue Eyed Soul

Jan 11, 2004
Philly's musical hothouse sprouts fresh sounds over a wide field
By Tom Moon, Inquirer Music Critic

Mutlu Mutlu(Mutlusounds.com ***1/2) "Did You Know," on the five-song EP by singer and guitarist Mutlu Onaral, begins as a gentle samba. But after two swaying verses that display jazz-vocal phrasing, there's a sharp mood change, into hip-hop. Turns out Onaral, a first-generation American of Turkish descent, is a credible rapper, and after the severe, surprisingly dexterous narrative detour, he slides back into his singing voice to take things home. Like Amos Lee, with whom he'll share the stage Jan. 23 at the Fire on Girard Avenue, Mutlu uses repetitive chord sequences to launch gloriously loose vocal improvisations. If he can pull together a full album that exudes the breezy feel of "Can't Stop," he'll be unstoppable.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation.......2005-12-28

It may seem like "local bias" because I am from the Philly metro area, but this is the best sampler compilation I've heard in quite a while. Produced by Philadelphia's WXPN-FM, one of the best adult alternative stations in the country (and home of World Cafe), it's a very tasty cross-section of local talent - the performances are first-rate across the board, ranging from straight-ahead pop-rock to soul to folk, and more. The most high-profile name here is probably Amos Lee, whose debut album has met with accolades nationwide. You may recognize other singer-songwriters here as well, like John Flynn, Ben Arnold, Jim Boggia and Grey Eye Glances. (And if you're not familiar with them, this is a great place to start.) There are also very catchy numbers from lesser-knowns like Townhall, Mutlu and Mojo Stu. Proceeds from the CD also benefit "Musicians on Call", a worthy cause in which participating musicians bring live music to hospital patients in the area. So if you like World-Cafe style musical programming, you will really enjoy this CD.

I saw Mutlu recently in SF opening for Amos Lee and I was mesmerized by his voice and style. This cat can sing! What a mellow voice too. All his songs on this cd are awesome:See What it Brings, Think it Over, I'm Tellin' You (my fav),Best in Me and Caramel. You will love this cd! Hey Mutlu, if you're reading this, I totally dig your music and was so impressed at the Independent in SF with you. Wish Boardgames was on the cd. Can't wait for your next cd. Just bought your 2003 cd too. You have a lot of talent and I am so glad I found your music. It was a pleasure meeting you. Regards...Nomi

5 out of 5 stars Looking forward to a full-length album..........2004-09-15

Mutlu (pronounced moot-loo) isn't afraid to borrow from any genre to give his music a perfect blend, although soul, hip-hop, and jazz typically prevail. "Can't Stop" is a perfect example of his incredible voice & the groove he brings to every song. This is a great EP, and if you ever have the chance to see him live, don't miss it.

I saw Mutlu at the Bitter End in NYC on the 4th of July. He's got a great voice and he writes good songs. I really like this CD and I am looking forward to another release soon. Hey Mutlu, if you're reading this, great job dude. Keep it up.
