Camino del Sol

Camino del Sol

Originally recorded as a collection of singles and an EP, Camino Del Sol is the work of French band Antena, who made a brief impact on the electronic music scene between 1981 and 1983. Dubbed "electro-samba" by the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, the songs here (including a nearly unrecognizable reworking of Jobim's "The Girl from Ipanema") are a combination of Latin-flavored drum-machine beats and relaxed vocals over a wash of synthesized melody. What's remarkable is how up-to-the-minute these 20-year-old recordings sound--Antena may have arrived too early to become successful, but their resonance can be heard in a slew of modern bands, from Beck's Brazilian excursions to the mellow electronica of Zero 7. --Ben Heege

5 out of 5 stars BRAVO.......2005-01-21

Standing ovation for Numero group. This reissue of the best electro samba band ever is a wonder. This record is 23 years old and sounds like it was made yesterday.
Let's hope that it will bring attention to Isabelle Antena 's fabulous work.

5 out of 5 stars ahhh, romance.......2004-12-08

Angular and sensual. Urban nights and the south of France during the day. Electro samba. Your dreams of a romantic life on one CD packaged in a gorgeous slip-cover sleeve (Hennebert was a fine artist!). Then of course there is THAT keyboard--the one a minute or so in to the title track that sends all the blood to your heart. If you don't love this band like a good friend after hearing this CD you are dead to me.
