I dont care what others say about The Supremes,Temptations, or other Motown groups,the MIRACLES were the greatest group to ever come out of Motown.PERIOD!! Why ? for one thing,they were the FIRST MOTOWN GROUP.It was their success that paved the way for all the others. Had they not been sucessful, there would have been NO MOTOWN,and none of those other groups would have been found fame ,or at least not to the extent which they did.They also had Motown's first million-selling record "Shop Around". During the company's critical early years- 1959-1964- they were BY FAR Motowns TOP GROUP,(despite what certain reviewers have written},the star atraction of the legendary MOTORTOWN REVUES,and the ONLY group that was bringing any serious money into the company!! The TEMPTATIONS ? great singers and dancers to be sure,but what most Temptations fans won't tell you is that 9 of their first 12 hits were actually written by The MIRACLES !! not just Smokey,THE WHOLE GROUP !! Don't believe it ? just look at the writing credits on the Tempts GREATEST HITS album !THE SUPREMES ? They wouldn't have even GOTTEN on Motown if not for Smokey !!Stevie Wonder? He was discovered by Miracles member RONNIE WHITE !! In fact ,of the five leading Motown groups ( Supremes, Temptations,4 tops,Miracles,J-5 }The MIRACLES were the ONLY ones that wrote their own material. Hopefully one day ,the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME will induct them ALL, including MARV & CLAUDETTE ,not just SMOKEY , as they did.Want to know why they deserve it? Just listen to this CD.It will prove that SMOKEY wasn't the ONLY serious talent in this group !!

I am so pleased that "City Of Angels" can be heard once again. I bought the album when it was first released in the mid 70's. Loved it then, love it now. From the moment the overture begins to the last cut it is pure magic. We all had our doubts about the "The Miracles" after the exit of Smokey Robinson but the truth, with new lead vocal Billy Griffen the group pulled off quite a "Miracle" in this album. I grew up just outside of L.A. so this album touches my heart a bit. "City Of Angels" tells a wonderful story of one of the most interesting and provocative cities on the planet. Each song is unique in itself yet leads you forward on a wonderful journey to the next Song. Music that can be danced to and music that you just look forward to hearing. All the die-hard "Smokey Robinson & The Miracles" fans need to give "Billy Griffin & The Miracles" a listen. I know you will be very pleased.

Miracles, the essential collection..........2005-11-07

Among others, when I happened upon this collection, I thought that I too would be "ripped off!" Boy was I wrong, not only is the entire "City of Angles" album on this disc, but other Miracle hits such as "Don't cha Love it" and "Do it Baby" are included. You can purchase this disc at domestic prices and it is one of the best bargains around! Just to let you know, if Motown ever releases the albums, I will buy them, for SENTIMENTAL REASONS. These were songs/times of my life and are therefore priceless!! I give the disc FIVE STARS!!

Smokey Who?.......2005-10-14

The Miracles got along fine after Smokey left for his solo career. With songs like " Don't Cha Love It, Do It Baby, and my all time favorite Miracles song, Give Me Just Another Day. Back in the day, these three songs got the most play. It's only fitting that on this cd they play back to back behind each other. Love Machine had to be their biggest hit. And it is revered by the youth of today. This is a must buy for any one, be they 'old school' or not.

Good stuff..........2005-09-11

Overall, I like this CD. There are some great songs on it... and some not so great songs. The good certainly outweighs the bad. The musicianship is impressive and for the most part, the songwriting is solid. Love Machine, Do It Baby, Don't Cha Love it, and Take It All are my favorites. If You like 70's Soul music with some funk thrown in and some great vocal harmonies... get this CD.
