Most of the free world now knows that Babyface writes the songs the whole world sings, but many may not be aware that he also sings them as well. This "unplugged" performance, which is decidedly anything but, gives a high five to Babyafce's often overlooked vocal skills and triumphantly allows him to reclaim some of the hits he gave to others. It's cool to hear 'face and his stellar group (along with guests Eric Clapton, Milestone and Shanice Wilson) rework "Breathe Again" or "Take a Bow." And the duet with Stevie Wonder, "How Come How Long," may be high drama, but like the rest of this CD, it warms the soul. --Amy Linden

A great demonstration of Babyface's landmark on 90's music.......2005-07-10
But be warned, it's not your typical live album : Babyface sings only a little more than 50% of the tracks because there is an impressive list of guests, which would make dream many artists. Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Shanice Wilson, K-Ci & Jojo... need I say more?
The opening song finds Babyface in a "pop" style, very different from his trademark sound, with the wonderful "Change The World", usually sung by Eric Clapton (here it seems he only plays guitar).
Shanice Wilson replaces Toni Braxton on "Breathe Again" but that's not a problem since she has really no cause to be envious of her : she's just outstanding on that track. Beverly Crowder covers Whitney Houston's "Exhale", from the "Waiting for Exhale" OST.
The Boyz II Men medley is really great but I'm just disappointed the group is not present here, even if the performance of AZ Yet's Marc Nelson (which was a part of the 1st version of Boyz II Men and has left before their 1st album) is a nice tribute. Another highlight is Michael Jackson's "Gone To Soon", a beautiful duet between Babyface and what is certainly his biggest influence, Stevie Wonder of course. It seems to me it's the only song from this cd which is not a Babyface composition.
If you doubt of Babyface's talent, then you need to hear this to realize his skills, and also that maybe a lot of your favorite songs wouldn't exist without him. But you need to hear this also to see how much he has contributed to 90's music. I personnally think his best songs are the ones he has written for other artists.
If there was a cover of TLC's "Red Light Special" by, say, Chanté Moore (hmm), then this live album would have been perfect for me ;)
PS : Sorry but there is no cover of Madonna's "Take A Bow" here, it must be a mistake from the Amazon reviewer
