Customer Reviews:
Takes A Lickin' And Keeps On Tickin'.......2006-10-11
I never thought this album got the props it deserved. One of Bootsy's funkiest !!! From "Shyne O Myte" to "The Funky Functioneer" every track is P-Funk, Un-Cut Funk....DA BOMB !!! Bootsy was way ahead of his time. The things this cat can do with a bass. I remember buying this album back in 1982 when it was released and off and on I've been playing it ever since. Eventhough I bought the cd, ain't nothing like watching that vinyl go round and round and listening to Casper's voice exploed thru those Cerwin Vegas in the crib. "Excon of Love" is the joint ! All of Booty's slow jams were. Just didn't get the credit they deserved. If you have this one...you are of the funk - if you don't have it....GET IT...and become one with the funk.
daaamn that's funky shhhh..........2003-05-17
got this on wax for a little last month.
this one rock's man! i wanted to use a track i heard and liked just after buying for a mix. so i got the record and skipped to find the "right" track(this is what i as a dj do quite a lot).
i just couldn't find it, they where all so ... good. i ended up listening to the complete thing a couple of times
Bootsy's overall BADDEST album!!!.......2002-06-10It's too hard to decide which Bootsy album is his best overall, but jam for jam, this one is Bootsy's BADDEST!! If this album was a movie, it would be a sci-fi/action-adventure/comedy blockbuster!! It blows you away, makes you laugh out loud, mellows out just long enough to let you catch your breath, and leaves you with a big smile on your face! It's no accident that a whopping 5 songs from this supposedly forgotten album are featured on Bootsy's anthology CD, "Glory B, Da Funk's On Me," and at least 3 other songs could have easily made the cut. Trust the fans on this one: true funkateers either have this album, or they will go to great lengths to get it!!!
unknown forces took it away.......2001-03-29
the last great bootsy record from the 80's before casper dissapeared for 6 years, underrated, and forgotten, i forgot about this for a moment to until i heard low profile sample shyne-o-mite in 1989, i was like damn that's bootsy. and my favorite all time track ex con of love had bootsy survived longer in the 80's he would have gave prince and rick james a run for their money. the last great p-funk record until gansts rap saved the funk.
The Doctor of Funk proclaims this album the #1 Funkateer.......2000-09-20
Back in the day, when I was a college DJ, I was known as the Doctor of Funk. Part of the reason was this album right here. This album (beginning to end) is by far the best Bootsy release ever! Picking a favorite song from this album is like trying to choose one entree from a buffet. One day it's one song, the next day is another song. I have the 45 from Take A Lickin'.... and I purchased two cassettes and an LP. I wore all of them out years ago. And with so many great P-funk albums out from Bootsy, Clinton, The Brides, Parliament, Parlet, Funkadelic and the others, if I could take one p-funk album with me on a deserted island, and it can not be a compilation or best of album, this would be the one. If you are a true old school funk fan, this is a MUST HAVE in your collection. Take this prescription from the Doctor of Funk. You're Gonna have to take your shoes off, and kick up your feels like the foot stranger.
